FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS:

Today's photo was taken September 28, 2011. Fancy is performing the only trick that I know I have taught her. I say stump and she will put her front feet onto that old tree stump.

How was your weekend? We enjoyed a nice cool Carolina weekend here. Fancy's hooves had grown out and were beginning to chip, so I decided to try my hand at rasping. I had the tools for over a year, but I was afraid to try. I looked up how to trim hooves on youtube and I did it! I did as little as possible since it was my first time. Made my back hurt, but no more chipping hooves for now. I was very glad they didn't need to be trimmed, only shaped up. I tell you if you ever try it, you will appreciate a farrier with a strong back, LOL. Have you ever tried to do a horses hooves? If you have, how did you come out on the job?

King Kong was very bad yesterday. King did not want to listen to my brother and my brother's friend wanted to help, so he got on King. While my brother's friend was riding King the horse reared and they fell back. He is ok, only suffered whiplash and soreness. We don't know what got into King. When he reared, there was no bit pressure at all. So he could have moved in any direction and he chose up :(

Fancy was very good. My son has ridden her. He has gotten bored riding in the corral, so we walk around the block and through the car wash. My son loves to ride her. He would like me to turn him lose. But I don't think Fancy or my son are ready for that. Because she is still very young and I know my son does not have experience in case something did frighten her. But so far she has been so wonderful on his rides out. I don't take that for granted and I pray that she remains steady.

today i'm featuring the famous paint horse hidalgo on my page. my paint horse, smooch is a solid paint horse, used to be called breeding stock paint but they changed it a few years back. they originate from mustang and quarter horse crosses. smooch actually has alot of thoroughbred in his ancestry through Danger Boy II, a quarterhorse that traces back to the great race horse, Eclipse.

Hello, Rosie!~ COOL BRAIDS!
The pen that I'm assigned to clean now has 3 horses instead of 2. Luckily for me, I clean that pen almost every day, instead of once a week like everyone else, so my pen is still looking good. Tammy (my barn manager) told me that I set the standard high!
After cleaning it out, I groomed Passion for awhile, and then rode him. I am very sad to say that he is still limping after his farrier came and did his hooves. I am so worried about him- I just don't want him to get an abscess for 8 months like he did last year. That was a horrible, horrible time for the both of us. Wish Passion some get-well-soons!

HEALTH ALERT !!! **
I just got an e.mail from ACTHA saying they were rescheduling the World Record Ride for the Mustangs because of an out break of EHV-1 in 6 Western states. I looked it up, the states affected so far are Arizona, Utah, California, Idaho, Washington and Colorado. The infected horses had all attended a National Cutting Horse Assoc. show in Utah in early May. Several horses have already been euthanized. Mine get vaccinated yearly but I just called my vet to see how effective the vaccine is. She said no vaccine is 100% effective and recommended a booster shot 6 mo. after the initial dose just to be on the safe side. Please help me spread the word on HC as there are many members from the west. Please be careful. lotsalov D&J

Grace is LAME ~cries~ I feel just awful for her :(.
I was working on ground work with her. Just walk, trot, stop rest, change directions repeat....stop, rub the rope all over her. Switch to whip, do it all over again. And she tripped. She was trotting nicely, then just stumbled. Didn't fall, and kept going... I checked and she was not limping. then I was working on keeping her head behind my shoulder while we walked. She only needed correction once. but when we got to the barn. limp, limp, limp. -.- the whole time I was grooming her her right rear leg was cocked. I thought crud. Felt it, yep heat -.-. She got it hosed down for 20 min. This morning it looks swollen. sigh, waiting to call the vet, they aren't open yet. My first horse! so the first time I have had a lame horse! Im like so nervous about it I feel so bad for her!!!!! :( Leaving a vote and hoping your day goes better then mine!

Austin and I put the tarp up. It was too long, so I folded it in half length wise. I hope if Sadie doesn't tear it down, the dust storms and high winds won't, either. It's secured with nails and twine. I was careful not to make any holes in it. ........Anxious to find out who our April HOTM is. All 3 runners were great. Love and a "have a beautiful horsey weekend" vote.

Here is a late Saturday night vote from your friend: trailhorse Fancy!!! Today I ran up and down the street beside Fancy just having fun. My neighbor told me my husband would be perfect if he listened good as my horse!!! I had to laugh because he is a man too. LOL! Can you imagine a dude saying that about another dude, LOL!!! Fancy was so good, I began to think, I would really love to take a ride while she was in such a sweet mood. So I saddled her and we went down into the woods for the first time with me riding her. She was so calm and sweet! I am sure Fancy will be an excellent trail horse one day!!! I am sooooo excited!!!! I asked my husband and son to get some photos for me. For the next few days I will be sharing them on Fancy's page.
My brother's horse is still sore from the gelding surgery. So we can't spend any quality time with him to get that name in order. When he is feeling spry, we will get that name figured out. I have all the names you guys provided written down and I am ready. Just have to wait till he feels better.
