Type of Riding: In the 17 years we have been together I have never really ridden War. I have sat on him and walked around my property. I have always walked him in hand around the desert and in our neighborhood. He loves it.

My Horse's Achievements: After his abusive past I am proud that he trusts me. He got spooked one day while walking in hand with me and took off down the dirt road headed to a very busy street dragging his lead rope behind him. I yelled his name. He stopped. I told him to come to me and he turned right around and came trotting back to me!!!

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Bermuda hay. Because of his age he is missing several teeth so he is not allowed to eat hay anymore but he will sneak a mouthful every time he can even though he spits it out because he can't chew it very well.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Go in parts of the yard that I don't allow any other horses.

Pet Peeves: When you are more than 15 minutes late in feeding him his meal.

My Horse's motto: "But do you know who I am?"
Because of his age and behavior he has the run of my whole yard and gets special treatment. When I tell him he must do or not do something he will hesitate a second while looking at me as if saying "But do you know who I am! Okay, just checking.", then do what he is told.

How We Met

I met War at a Mustang rescue. After being rounded up War was adopted out and badly abused. The rescue took him and fostered him out only to find out that his foster home was also abusive! I was about to adopt a little mare from the rescue when I saw War standing by himself facing the corner. Immediately I knew I needed to adopt him instead. It took the rescue 4 hours to load him in a big stock trailer then bring him to me. After I gained his trust he has, by far, been the best horse I have ever known..

I too own a Mustang (Clifford) that I just got in December from the BLM, and I am so glad to see someone else who has adopted one too. Warrior is a very handsome man, and it sounds like he has lived quite the life. Good work taking him in and giving him a nice home- it's nice to see people caring for animals and doing what's right, instead of just what's convinient! Warrior is a pretty boy. I was really surprised to see his age. He looks very good! I enjoyed reading about him too. Seems like a cool boy! Of course I left him a vote!
