Hello! I haven't been on for ever, it seems like! Sorry!! I just started jumping Sweet Pea again. I didn't since last summer. Last summer she jumped up to 3 feet, and this year I'd like to get up a bit higher! So wish me luck! One thing I have a problem with; when I turn her to face the jump, she tenses up, goes fast and gets all excited. It's not like she's scared, she overly eager! So if you have any advice for steadying her and controlling her speed right before the jump, I would like to hear it! There's a small, local rodeo on May 7th, that I'm enter her in. I can't WAIT! I want to teach Flicka to long-drive and lunge this summer. And Dad said he's going to get a cart for Acorn. Acorn has been driven before, we just never had a cart. So with 2 jobs, 3 horses and many friends, this summer is going to be full indeed!
My older friend Sharon's mare had a baby on Friday morning ( April 8th), and the mare (Misty) didn't know what to do cause it was her first baby. The baby got cold and was near death when Sharon found it. She brought it in her laundry and got a piece of carpet under it so it could stand up, cause the vet said that if it can stand up, it doesn't have any brain damage. On Friday evening she took it out to the mom again and it nursed and fell asleep! The vet said he never saw a baby that was so far gone come that far in the amount of time. I'm writing this on Teusday (April 12th) and it's doing fine. Sharon let it out in the meadow yesterday and it was cantering around-SSOOO cute and tiny! Nothing like a newborn foal!
