How We Met

I had been wanting a horse of my own for a long time I was just waiting for the right one to come along my dad told my uncle tony to keep his eye open for one. my uncle said that he had a horse that i could have. so the next day we went and picked him up. And that is how I met stormy. (My little Man)

Is the most loving horse ever. He is so easy going. when ever I work outside and im not over with him he Neighs and paces the fence.
because he wants me to come over their and see him. And oh my whenever i go on a trip (which isnt that often) that he cant go on, when i come home and i go out and see him he goes crazy! he comes up to me nuzzles me and then turns around and just takes off faster than i can say go. he turns around at a certain point &comesbareling back as if he was working on that trick when i was gone! He is so perfect!

I am so sorry it's been so long since I've been on. I've had a very busy couple of months! I moved to a great new house, Luna had her 12th birthday (on St. Patrick's Day, LOL), I finally got Luna's transfer of ownership papers in the mail from the ApHC, I found out that Luna is eligible for Foundation Pedigree Designation (which means she's about as purebred Appaloosa as you can get), and I've been preparing for my oldest daughter's college graduation in about 2 weeks. Whew! So anyway, I'm back on Horse Channel and I've been reading everyone's blogs and catching up with all of you.

I have been leaving votes for everyone; I just haven't been leaving blogs. I have also been sure to leave votes for Pixie Dust, Good Luck!

I left you a vote; have a horsey day!

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate BlackHistory Month:
Born in Fort Concho, TX 2/ 8/1876, Crawford Goldsby. Cherokee Bill. Born to St. George & Ellen (Beck) Goldsby, Bill’s father was a mulatto from Alabama, a sergeant of the 10th United States Cavalry, & a Buffalo Soldier. His mother was a Cherokee Freedman, mixed with African, Indian & white ancestry.
After age 7, he attended an Indian School in Kansas for 3 years, then an Industrial School for Indians in PA for 2 years. Despite attempts for a good education, he could barely read & write.
Some say he killed his 1st man at age 12. His brother-in-law told him 2 feed some hogs. Grabbing a gun, Crawford shot & killed him, he was not prosecuted because of age.
His mother remarried & he disliked his stepfather. Crawford befriended a bad crowd, drank liquor, & rebelled against authority. Age 17, he worked on a ranch, & was well-liked. That changed the next year when he began his outlaw career, becoming 1 of the most dangerous & feared men in Indian Territory .
Spring 1894, age 18, His crime spree began when he shot a man named Jake Lewis. Lewis recovered from his wounds, Bill thought he killed Lewis & Bill fled for the Creek and Seminole Nations & joined up with outlaws Jim & Bill Cook.
Hiding from the law at his sister's home, Crawford saw her husband, a vicious drunk, beat her with a whip for not responding quickly 2 his orders, Bill walked up behind him & shot him 2 death.
Bill Cook & Cherokee Bill rounded up a gang, mostly of black men with Indian blood & began 2 terrorize Oklahoma. Starting out on whiskey charges & horse theft. Then robbing banks, stores, stagecoaches, & trains. They were ruthless, shooting anyone who got in their way.
While robbing a general store in Oklahoma, an innocent passerby heard commotion & stuck his head in 2 see. Curiosity got him killed as Cherokee Bill raised his rifle & shot him in the head.
He was captured 1-30-1895 & delivered 2 Fort Smith, Arkansas for murder trail. 2-26, Cherokee Bill was tried for murder before Judge Parker & found guilty. 4-13, an unconcerned Crawford Goldsby was sentenced 2 death.
Cherokee Bill was unconcerned because he planned an escape with the use of a gun that was smuggled 2 him by a trustee. 7-26-1895 he attempted a jailbreak, 1 of the guards was killed during the gun battle.
Cherokee Bill's lawyer worked on an appeal, maintaining that Bill did not receive a fair trial under Judge Isaac Parker, who characterized him as a "bloodthirsty mad dog who killed for the love of killing" & as "the most vicious" of all the outlaws in the Oklahoma Territory. The appeals were 2 no avail, on 3-17-1896 federal officials hanged him before hundreds of spectators. When asked if he had any last words, he said: "I came here 2 die, not 2 make a speech."
At the tender age of 20, Crawford "Cherokee Bill” Goldsby died at the end of a rope. His mother took his remains back 2 Fort Gibson, he is buried at the Cherokee National Cemetery.

Hi! How have you been? Heres a vote, thanks for stopping by while I was away!! ♥ Well, I apologize for my absence the past 2 days, I got back from camp and had a terrible soar throat and stomach ache : ( Other than that I really enjoyed Camp. I actually wish we could be stayed for more than 3 days, atleast 1 more would do it. Although (almost) every person in my group was getting to be cranky, I don't think I could go one more day dealing with that LOL! (not to be mean, just saying). First, you would get up, get ready, and at 7:45 we would have devotions for 30 minutes. Then you would have 30 minutes to get ready for breakfast, 8:45. Then, when that is over (about an hour or 30 minutes later) they would dismiss you to get ready for service and worship. Worship was honestly my favorite part, I totally looked forward to the next day; it was just so alive in that room I really felt the spirit of God. It was rad. Then, after service and worship (time varied) you would have 30 minutes to get ready for lunch. Then after lunch you would have another service and worship. Then, you would have free time until 6:00, which was dinner time and after that would be service and (you know, ha!) worship! After that, (about 10:00 p.m) there was snacks at the sports center, and you would have free time to go anywhere. That was the schedule. You could climb communication hill (which 2 of my friends did in 20 minutes, skill LOL!). This camp was obviously a Christian one, and was called, Washington Family Ranch; in Washington LOL! I had a BLAST! The band that played in worship was so awesome. If you haven't heard of them, (no pressure) I totally recommend you check them out, they are a great bunch of guys, and they are so funny also. Their band is called Elliot. The guitar guy, Casey Parnell is my buddy, even though I only seen him for 3 days...oh well, still my buddy. Haha! He cracks me up!! Anyways, I have missed you guys, I wish they would have let me bring my iTouch, (also if they had wifi) then I would have totally taken pics or blogged you guys. It literally out in the middle of..NO WHERE! Haha, literally. Anyways, hope all is well. Blessings to you, and sending God and Oregon love to you! ~ Talk Soon. Erin & Quincy

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate Black History Month:
Ned Huddleston (1849-1900), known as Isom Dart was born into slavery in Arkansas in 1849. Riding, roping and bronco-busting earned him the nicknames “Black Fox” and “Calico Cowboy.” He was also a notorious Wyoming Territory outlaw.
After being freed from slavery at the end of the war Huddleston headed 2 the southern Texas-Mexico border where he worked rodeo, became a stunt rider and developed master horseman skills.
Huddleston straddled both sides of the law. Huddleston and a Mexican bandit named Terresa lived as rustlers stealing horses in Mexico and selling them in Texas. Huddleston later joined a cattle drive heading northwest to Brown’s Hole in the Colorado-Wyoming area around 1871.
After a wild love affair with a Shoshone Indian woman in 1875, Huddleston joined the infamous Tip Gault Gang, a cattle and horse rustling outfit of southeastern Wyoming. Narrowly escaping death, he moved west and started a new life as a hard-working bronco buster, going by the name of Isom Dart.
Isom Dart later returned to Brown’s Hole around 1890 to established his own ranch. Local cattlemen suspected he built his ranch herd from cattle he’d rustled from their ranches. The ranchers hired the notorious range detective, Tom Horn, to punish Dart. Horn ambushed and killed Isom Dart on October 3, 1900 near Brown's Hole. Some Brown's Hole residents mourned his death, claiming Dart was killed by cattleman who wanted his land and cattle. They saw Dart as a good-hearted, talented horseman and a top bronc stomper. Others believed he never completely gave up his life of cattle rustling and thus remained a menace to the community.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate BlackHistory Month:
Professional rodeo cowboy & horse trainer, Fred Whitfield, born 8-5- 1967 in Houston, TX, became 1st African American cowboy 2 win world title in calf roping 1991 & top money earner in Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association 1992 & continued 2 break records.
Whitfield discovered roping @ age 5, watching @ the Moffitt family roping arena, Cypress, TX. Whitfield began roping @ age 7. His first horse was a Shetland pony, using an extension cord he roped mailboxes, chickens, goats, & his own mom around the neck & leg."
Whitfield started competing peewee rodeos @ age 9 winning his 1st competition. After his mom moved the family 2 Houston, he returned 2 Cypress 2 live with his aunt, 2nd his grandfather, & last Roy Moffitt. By age 12, he had won many saddles & trophies. Moffitt took Whitfield 2 rodeos & seeing Whitfield's natural talent, Moffitt made sure Whitfield's entry fees were paid. In the Houston Chronicle, Whitfield noted that economics have prevented most African American cowboys from competing in the pro circuit. He admitted, he could not compete in rodeos without Moffitt's help. With Moffitt, Whitfield was able 2 compete in over 40 rodeos.
Whitfield tried bull riding & steer wrestling, but enjoyed calf roping better. He played football until he entered high school & chose rodeo over football. Whitfield developed skills watching different ropers. He admired Roy Cooper of Childress, Texas, an 8-time world champion calf-roper & the all-around champion in 1983. Whitfield stayed at Cooper's home a few days 2 practice roping & became Cooper's friend & traveling partner.
1989, Whitfield joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association. 1990, Whitfield was the Cheyenne, Wyoming Frontier Days champion & qualified 4 the National Finals Rodeo. Whitfield won Resistol Rookie of the Year award & quit his job as lube distribution manager 4 Moffitt Oil Company 2 concentrate on his rodeo career. 1991, he broke the record 4 calf roping by bringing down & tying 10 calves in 91.70 seconds. Whitfield became the 1st African American 2 win a calf roping world championship. Earning more money than any calf roper in history of the National Finals Rodeo, $70,609 in the 10 days of the finals.
In 1993, Roy Cooper told Gavin Ehringer of Western Horseman Magazine, "Fred is the most athletic calf roper in the business--he's got great speed, strength, timing, & accuracy. When he's focused right & his horse is working good, he's unbeatable." Whitfield admitted that a good horse is critical in competition. Whitfield told Pro Rodeo Sports News that 2 "know your horse is going 2 score, run, stop & work, makes it easier 2 win."
Whitfield is an excellent role model 4 African American cowboys, hoping 2 encourage African American ropers 2 compete on a national level. Some of the rodeos Whitfield competes in are on the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo circuit.

Jack-o-lantern, Jack-o-lantern,
You are such a funny sight.
As you sit there by the window,
Looking out into the night.
You were once a sturdy pumpkin,
growing on a curly vine.
Now you are a Jack-o-lantern,
See your night lights shine.

Fancy is leaving a superb Saturday vote.
Thanks for voting Scotty HOTD, his owner is visiting today and he will get treats & lots of attention today. Scotty has done many things. 3 years ago he was a kids horse. Since then he has participated in some parades and Buffalo Soldiers presentations. Every one seems to like him very much.
Fancy seems to like Scotty too much. The first evening with Scotty, I was not very happy! Fancy did not want to come to me and I thought Fancy was going to starve for not eating. Each day she gets closer to her normal self again. The only thing now, Fancy seems to be a little skiddish, which is not normal for my girl. I have taken her out on walks each day that Scotty has been here. I rode Fancy around the block yesterday and she was very good, but a little hyper to go. I stopped and took her bridle off to let her graze for a while too.
I have been dealing with horses for almost 20 years with plenty of horses and never had my toe stepped on. Well, guess what? Dog gone if Scotty didn't step on the tip of my boot Friday evening. I believe he was very aware of it too! Gonna work on his ground manners:~)

Leaving a vote to start the week!

“Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile” (William Cullen Bryant)

Q: Why do potatoes make good detectives?
A: Because they keep their eyes peeled.

Today's photo was taken September 28, 2011. Fancy is performing the only trick that I know I have taught her. I say stump and she will put her front feet onto that old tree stump.

How was your weekend? We enjoyed a nice cool Carolina weekend here. Fancy's hooves had grown out and were beginning to chip, so I decided to try my hand at rasping. I had the tools for over a year, but I was afraid to try. I looked up how to trim hooves on youtube and I did it! I did as little as possible since it was my first time. Made my back hurt, but no more chipping hooves for now. I was very glad they didn't need to be trimmed, only shaped up. I tell you if you ever try it, you will appreciate a farrier with a strong back, LOL. Have you ever tried to do a horses hooves? If you have, how did you come out on the job?

“For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.” (Edwin Way Teale)

Please view the video tribute in Horse Vidos: PIXIE DUST: IN MEMORY OF JOANNA, which was submitted by Pippin's family (profile #11626) In honor of our friends: Joanna Wicke her horses, Pixie Dust (profile #101958), & Brisco (profile # 140827), and her family.

Fancy is leaving a vote for you this Friday morning.

King Kong was very bad yesterday. King did not want to listen to my brother and my brother's friend wanted to help, so he got on King. While my brother's friend was riding King the horse reared and they fell back. He is ok, only suffered whiplash and soreness. We don't know what got into King. When he reared, there was no bit pressure at all. So he could have moved in any direction and he chose up :(

Fancy was very good. My son has ridden her. He has gotten bored riding in the corral, so we walk around the block and through the car wash. My son loves to ride her. He would like me to turn him lose. But I don't think Fancy or my son are ready for that. Because she is still very young and I know my son does not have experience in case something did frighten her. But so far she has been so wonderful on his rides out. I don't take that for granted and I pray that she remains steady.
What are you up to on the last Friday in September?

Fancy & I love all of our HorseChannel friends and we hope you guys will stop by her page to vote each day in October so Fancy can be your November HOTM.

"If all the world were ours to give, would we give it?"

Fancy and Frances are leaving a vote for your beautiful horse today.
Everything that I did with Fancy Wednesday, I dedicated to Joanna's memory.
When Fancy walked to meet me at the gate, I thought about Pixie and Brisco not being able to see their loved friend meet them at the gate again. As I picked out Fancy's hooves all I could think about was Pixie Dust and Brisco. Wondering if they understand the absence of the constant source of love in their life.
As I worked cleaning Fancy's corral, I thought of my granddad telling me once, "The empty wagon cries the loudest." I asked him, "Granddad, what in the world does that mean?" And he explained to me, if I listen, I will hear that a wagon bearing a full load makes very little to no sound. And the wagon that is empty creeks and squeaks loudly. He explained to me how people are like the wagons. Yesterday I thought of Joanna and I felt like the empty wagon. She never once complained, she was always positive, she loved reading of Fancy's adventures.
After reading her memorial posted on Cross Creek Horses page, I suddenly understood why she loved Dancing With the Stars so much.
This young lady had such an awesome spirit! And we never knew how awesome she really was. But Pixie Dust knew this as she visited Joanna during her illness. What a loving and special little horse. God Bless Pixie Dust, she is truly an Angel on Earth.

Have a truly blessed day.

Fancy is leaving a Tuesday Fall vote.
It is starting to thunder out, so I am speeding this up. I will return later to respond to my blogs if I can finish my voting before the storm gets any worse.
Have a lovely day ♡
