Our yard is soaked after last nights rains! The daffodils still look so pretty!
After having the cold winter months off, Buttercup finally had some riding time this past weekend. She seemed to enjoy her short time under saddle. I think she will be ready for the trails come spring. NOw to just get Fancy ready! I look forward to seeing Fancy prancing in the sun when her ouchie is all healed.
We always build their riding times up during many short rides. Do you prepare your horse for hours of riding.

Because my oldest son is now on his return trip to Afghanistan, it was real sweet to see Cowboy smile when I showed him his HOTD yesterday. Again, THANKS! Oh, I finally got photos from his visit added to Fancy’s page.
It has certainly been a lovely Carolina day! After church we ate and headed out for the day. I took care of Fancy & Trigger. Since Fancy can not go out I went for a bike ride. Fancy became very upset as she watched us leave. I was afraid she was going to hurt herself trying to get out. She remembers our walks! That made me feel bad to leave her. Since we have more daylight now, Fancy will have her walks soon. We don’t have to ride. I love taking walks with her. But there is no way I can handle Fancy and my bike at the same time.

I look forward to reading about your weekend. Do you have any fresh new horsey plans since the days are longer and the sun is shining stronger?

Yep, With spring comes the shedding time. I am going to dodge the hair too. LOL> Fancy has a nice winter coat. It doesn't look thick until it starts coming out. Then it is time to look out. I guess it does not get really cold there, so Joker won't have tons of shedding hair, or will he?

I'd like to congratulate Twilight on winning HOTM. Not much is going on today. I had my school to do. Lovely. I'm getting excited cuz in two weeks I'll be home for a visit and I'll be able to see the horses and donkeys!! How has your first day of March been?
So my story about Sugar and I starts nine and a half years ago. I always wished to have a have a horse of my own. My grandpa promised to get me a horse when my parents were done building the house (that we now live in). Well on in the middle of August my mom and grandma came home after a day of being out and shopping. They had went to see a pony and they showed me the pictures of her. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I'll have more tomorrow.

We got some more snow today,but no accumulation so it didn't last long. It is suppose to be like that for the next few days. I had a Writing&Grammer test today and I got a 95% which is an A!! Also yesterday I turned in my writing assignment and I got a B on it!! That is really good cuz my writing assignments haven't been the best lately. Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear about your heart attack. But you are right--animals can start you on the path to healing just by being near. I hope you get to see Joker while you recuperate. Let us know when you're up and around again. I am praying for you.
It snowed (again) last night. I normally like the snow, but enough is enough. The old snow hasn't even melted away yet, so now there's just snow on top of snow. Oh well, I'll just make a thermos of hot chocolate and head to the barn to watch the horses romp in all the white stuff. Winter OR summer, it's fun to watch horses run and play! I'm glad to see you back! I love Joker's cute face, it's so gentle.
I just discovered that they put a riding helmet as one of the gifts you can redeem for Horse Channel points! I was going to buy a new one soon, because my current one is banged up, but now I won't have to because I've almost got enough points to redeem for it. I really want that helmet.

How are you doing? Is it still super windy? Wow, it's been a really long time since I've been able to blog properly! It's just been such a busy schedule lately that I hardly have any computer time to myself.

But, I have had time to take Pippin out almost every day and, of course, Melian comes with me too. Last week I was driving him to the mountain. Melian was attached to the side. We started down the lane and a car stopped behind us. We waited to cross the highway and once on the other side noticed the car following us.

Then we turned up the road to go up the mountain and the car drew up from behind us and stopped a little ahead. A woman jumped out with a camera and started exclaiming about how cute Pippin is. Pippin's expression was all attentive as he LOVES being the centre of attention. He was like, "I know it!"

Anyway, she and her husband asked if they could snap some shots because they had never seen anything so adorable. Of course, I said yes. And then she said hello to Pippin and was as friendly as ever.

In the meantime, beautiful Melian is standing there with a long suffering patience written all over her face. They hardly noticed her and she was thinking, "Let's get this over already! How boring can people be?" However, if she had been the centre of attention she would have been loving every minute of it. When people say she's so beautiful she raises her head a little and prances a few steps. Wow, what vain critters I have!

So, we went on our way. We met a couple of loggers, one of whom thought Pippin was adorable. Melian again ignored. Pippin must have looked particularly cute that day!

So, we turned around at the base of the mountain to gallop back down. Pippin was eager to set off and we raced faster and faster. We passed the logger and he looked in surprise as this teeny tiny horse came galloping by at 25mph.

Eventually I started to slow Pippin as we drew nearer the highway. Melian was running loose at this point and I wanted to hook her back up to the cart. We pulled over, I attached her, and then I clicked for Pippin to move.

Nothing happened. I clicked again. Nope. Hm, what's wrong? I got out and looked at Pippin wonderingly. What?! No bridle? I have never in my life had this happen to me on any horse.

The bridle was around his off fore. It must have come off while I was hooking up Melian. He probable scratched his face on the shafts and it got hooked there somehow. That's the only explanation of which I can think. I'm certainly glad it didn't come off while we were galloping down!

Anyway, never a dull moment with creatures in your lives! Here's a vote for you and I hope you're enjoying spring. Here it's warm and then freezing and then raining and then snowing. Typical spring. Can't make up its mind.

How are you doing? I know it's been over a month since I blogged properly and I'm sorry about that. I hope the new year is going well for you. I wanted to stop by and wish all my friends a happy new year but our year started out very very sadly and I haven't been able to bring myself to spread the harsh news.

Have I mentioned Acorn, our squirrel, to you before? We raised her as a baby. On New Year's Eve she was run over by our neighbours. Our driveway is the right of way to several neighbours. I still miss her. She was such a cutie and so very smart and still quite tame. I'm also angry because one shouldn't be such a careless driver. Especially in the middle of a forest on someone else's private land.

It was just so awful. At 1.5 years old she was in the prime of her life and we were prepared to have her around for at least another 14 years. And her first babies would have been born this spring! We miss her.

And then, as if our year hadn't started out badly enough, we also lost one of our kitties. She was getting close to 17 but still seemed healthy enough to go on for a few more years. She took a sudden turn for the worse and now she is gone. Her name was CC and she has a profile on the Cat Channel, 66957. Acorn is also on the SAC at 188686.

She was really good friends with my special Tiny Girl (dog) who died a couple of years ago. It feels to me like I lost my last living link to her. I like to think of them together again.

I hope your year started out a lot better than mine! Pippin is doing great. I don't know what I'd do if something like that happened to him. I don't even want to think about it. How are you and the horses in your life?

Here's a vote for you and I'll try to be a better blogger. But don't hold your breath!

Did you get any horse-related things for Christmas? I got some pretty neon-colored mane and tail extensions for Luna, to help "jazz" up her look LOL. I can't wait to put them in her hair and take photos.
I went to see "War Horse" on Tuesday and it was really good. If you see it, take tissues along. But it's worth it.

I woke up this morning and it finally SNOWED!! So I am totally going riding today. Since I've only had Luna since September, this will be the first time I've ever ridden her in the white stuff...it should be fun! I might even take my dog along, too.

I hope you get some riding time in. That's what Saturdays were made for (and Sundays, and Mondays, and the rest of the days, too LOL)!

Sorry I've been away from the computer so long!
I've really missed reading your blogs. I appreciate your continued support, however!
Does it snow in Alamogordo? I was stationed at Holloman AFB about 20 years ago, but it was only for a few months in the spring. I can't wait for riding-in-the-snow season, although it probably won't happen here in Illinois until after the new year. Until then, I just keep watching Luna's winter coat get fuzzier and shaggier! Horses look so huggable when they are fuzzy!

How are you doing? It was good to hear from you again. Is it cold there? Brrr, winter has really set in here. No snow but it's cold! Down in the teens at night but not so bad while the sun is out in the afternoon. I'm always glad that Pippin grows a nice thick arctic coat. He's never cold!

I want to make a memorial tribute video for Barbara Knight, owner of Princess Shawnie and the other Knight mares. Would you like to be a part of that? I'm not sure yet how I'm going to do it. I don't want to do the same as for Joanna but maybe something similar. And I'll probably add some cat and dog friends too since she was also on those channels.

I just got back from a hike with Pippin and my friends and our dogs. As soon as the sun went behind the mountains it was COLD! I think we walked home faster than we walked out! Maybe we're barn sour! hehe

I hope you're doing fine and enjoying the horses in your life. My sister have been enjoying driving Eddie and Prince. No riding for now. We've been banned because of my last concussion. I can't say we're not greatly disappointed. But, maybe this will give my head some time to heal.

So, no on the other horse? What about Brown though? Is he only a pasture ornament or can you ride him too? I can't wait to see some photos. And I'd love to see photos of your cats, old and new, your new puppy and your rat! We have lots of different animals here too.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope you are doing well and enjoying a very happy Thanksgiving. We just ate our main meal and I can say that I'm about as stuffed as I ever want to be! Mmm, the food was good! And, I don't have to work as much today so I thought I'd take a little time to catch up on my blogs.

I've missed blogging here on HC. I know I haven't been around as much lately. Looks like you haven't either! I guess I can blame that on Prince. He threw me again and I got yet another concussion. So, with 3 concussions in 4 months my brain is not working quite right. But, since it's Thanksgiving I will say that I'm thankful that I still have the horses in my life though I'm not allowed to ride anymore. I really really miss that but I do enjoy driving too.

I've been driving Eddie as his cart is a bit safer. Eddie, however is not as well-behaved as Prince. It's funny, Prince will explode into a full on bucking bronco under saddle but when he's in harness he's an absolute gentleman! He must really love to pull a cart.

I drove Eddie yesterday in the pouring rain. And last week I drove him for the first time in ages. (He gets driven every week by his owner.) The back seat was loose and banging and it spooked him. So, here I am, fresh after another concussion, with a 6 foot percheron going madly at full gallop towards the end of the field. I'm hanging onto the reins with all my might and pulling to slow him. No difference in speed. I'm pulling so hard that his butt is all the way up against the cart and his nose is in his chest.

Now, one might think that the fence would be an obvious barrier and that I have nothing to worry about. Wrong! He doesn't respect fences and here we are heading at one full speed! He was planning on going right through it, he's done it before. I was thinking to myself, I don't want to be banned from horses completely, I've got to stop him!

So, I exerted the last of my strength and yelled at him through the wind and banging of the seat to WHOA! He slowed a little. I yelled and pulled some more. He went down to a canter. PHEW! And then a trot. And finally to a walk. His sides were heaving, he was breathing heavily, sweat pouring off him. Boy, he sure got himself worked up!

Yesterday, I tied the seat down and he was much calmer. Still, he was quite an energizer bunny. He got a great workout. I'm used to driving Pippin who is not only much smaller but he listens to my every word! Such a different experience.

How is everything with you and the horses? Joker still looking great after the summer? And how about his potential new pasture buddy? I hope you're all doing fine. I am thankful to have not only horses in my life but all of my friends both on here and at home. One can not have too many!

How are you doing? I hope you had a nice weekend. I'm so sorry about Rosie though. It's hard losing a pet.

It's really nice here, cool but not too cold and some warm wind. My friend and I rode on Saturday and Prince was really good. Eddie dumped my friend by spooking himself and bolting back home. She's alright though and got back on him. She's determined to learn to ride.

Prince is a smart horse and since I started riding him again he's been the perfect gentleman. When Eddie spooked we were cantering and immediately Prince slowed down to make sure things were okay. He didn't run off or try anything bad. After my accident he wasn't ridden for a month. He loves being ridden and I'm wondering if he associated his bad behaviour with not getting to be ridden and that now he's on his best behaviour so it doesn't happen again. I don't know. Perhaps i give him too much credit. What do you think?

Many of you know that Pixie Dust's (101958) owner, Joanna, died a week ago on the 23rd of September. I had known her for 3 years on the HC and counted her among my good friends. Never once did she ever complain about being sick or disabled and was always good moral support to all those in need. I encourage you to check out her obituary online by searching Joanna Helen Wicke. I find her story very touching and inspiring. If we could all be so strong and considerate.

I made a short tribute video for her on here and would love for you to stop by and leave a comment. The video is called, Pixie Dust: In Memory of Joanna. I would like to make another one with the help of my HC friends. If you want to be involved please tell me. I plan to put the video together next weekend and would love to have some tribute photos from you of you and/or your horse with a note. How are you doing? Have you been riding lately or is it still too hot? I finally got to ride again after one month of being grounded by the doctor. On Thursday I rode Eddie and it sure felt great to be back in the saddle. It felt like all was right in the world again. Even though Eddie is MUCH bigger he's also a lot safer. I've been driving all three horses all month and I love doing that too but I like to be able to do both! And my brain didn't turn into mush from his big trot. That's what happened when I tried to go jogging a couple of weeks ago. I guess it was too early then.

Thanks so much for your kind words of support. It's been a month now and I feel a lot better but still I'm having headaches and brain lapses. At least now I have an excuse when I do something stupid!

I finally got to see my helmet for the first time last week and realized how bad it looked. Glad that wasn't my skull! It's all cracked up the back, and then splits into 3 more cracks going over the top and sides. Good thing I was wearing it!

I think now that perhaps Prince is and was having some trouble with hives and allergies. His skin is tender and he has some bumps and welts on him. So, perhaps the saddle felt uncomfortable? I don't know but I like to think it wasn't just him being bad.

I hope that all is safe and well there. Has it cooled down at all? It's much cooler her, to the point that it almost froze a couple of nights ago. But it may heat up again. We shall have to see.

I hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed some horsey time. Rosie sounds like a cute little thing. Here's a vote for you.

How are you doing? I'm so sorry that I haven't been on HC much the past month. I had just got caught up with my blogs after my biking accident when guess what! I did it again. Only this time it was from Prince.

I went all out this time. On Thursday the 11th of August, I was riding Prince and telling my friend who was riding Eddie that Prince just didn't feel right that evening. He was acting up and I thought I could perhaps slowly work out his kinks.

We went over a couple of jumps and suddenly upon landing the jump his head went down, his hind end went up and he had a major bucking fit. I wasn't prepared and went flying off. (Draught horses may be big but they're no less agile and athletic!) I remember falling but I don't remember landing. The next thing I remember is being surrounded by paramedics and being rushed by ambulance to the ER.

In fact I hear now that the entire Fire department, both ambulances, tons of private cars, and the sheriff were all there. Excitement in a small town?

Anyway, they asked me some really difficult questions. Like what's your name? Your DOB? Any allergies? Not easy questions in the best of circumstances but I did my best. I guess I was knocked out for about 10 minutes till anyone could get any response and then I drifted in and out for a long time afterwards. And vomiting for a couple of days.

It was a horrible experience and even now I still can't think quite straight but it's getting better. The doctor doesn't want me riding for at least a month or two. I guess another blow to my head really could be my last. I've been driving Pippin and I've driven Prince once. I'll drive him again tomorrow.

Pippin is doing great. This time last year he started swelling all over. I sure hope that it doesn't happen again. So far so good.
