Age: 22 years old

Gender: Mare

Breed: Mustang

Height: 15hh

Color: Ginger is a buckskin, line back dun, dun, red dun, whatever you'd like to call her. i prefer buckskin

Type of Riding: We did english equitation, 2' hunters, western pleasure, trail, english pleasure, bareback, elementary dressage, and jumpers. The last year of her life her health prevented any kind of riding though.

My Horse's Achievements: She did not trust people when I first met her. In fact is was teriified of them. With patience and understanding I won her. Everyone told me she would never jump or be anythign that I wanted her to be. They were wrong. She was the most talented horses that ever crossed my path. She had nothing that would make her famous, but everything that would make her memory cherished most. I love you sweet girl.

My Horse's Favorite Treat: bran mash with dissolved peppermints and hot water.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Shes pretty agreeable. she really loves to run and jump and of course food! She loved me. She would follow me around forever and let me sit on her back in her paddock without a halter or bridle. I miss my baby.

Pet Peeves: She dosen't like vets or farrirs but other then that shes pretty good.

My Horse's motto: Dream big! Always, always shoot for the dtars. Miracles do happen

How We Met

I met Ginger when she was 15 and i was 10. I fell in love with a abused and nervous horse nobody believed in. Her owner gave her to me if I promised to board her at his farm for a year. She was the best thing I ever called mine. GINGER: GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!!!.

A Vote for You!!
I know how hard it is to loose someone you love so much. My Crimson broke her back leg (fetlock)as a baby. Vets wanted to just put her down, but my farrier, made her a cast and she lived to be 26, past away early 2014. But the worst thing, is my son died 3 years ago, and also 2 of my sisters and my Dad, not all at the same time, but all within a 3-4 yr time. I have never really had time to cry over any thing, because my other son had to have transplants, and my husband over the last 3 yrs, had to have both knees and hips replaced. I am afraid if I start crying, I will never stop. At least you know what love is, think of all the people who never even knew that.

Come visit me, Kissed by the Sun & Whisper.

Happy late birthday, Ginger.
I'm so sorry it's being so hard to get over losing her. I mourned my first horse's death for 4 years, really, until I got another horse. Like you, I was in school when she died and didn't have the money or time to get another until I graduated. It's a hard time in your life to loose a best friend, not that it's ever easy. I hope you can find comfort in remembering the good times you had with her. There's nothing like your first horse.

oh no, hate to hear that you were sick for the camp. there have been a lot more germs going around this summer than usual, and they seem to last a long time.
yeah, I haven't been riding much this summer either. I put the horses up at night in a dry lot to keep them from getting too fat, so I cant ride early in the morning because they are grumpy and hungry. I can ride last light in the afternoon, but only if I don't have to work the next day because it makes for a pretty late night by the time I come in and shower, and I get up at 4 am for work. I don't mind riding in the heat, but I hate to ask it of the horses when they are already sweaty just standing around grazing.
have been on Allie a few times on a lunge line, and she's to the point that I need to put up my round pen and start free riding her and practicing turning and stopping. she's doing well. im going slowly with her, wasn't really going to ride until she's 3, but it's just sort of happening, so i'll keep it slow and low for a while.
well, gotta go. hope you feel better and get to ride soon.

hi Indy,
im glad you are getting to work at a camp, it is a lot of fun. how long does the camp run?
we had a very busy 4th, but fun. after working the last 6 or 7 July 4ths, I was determined to enjoy this one. I spent the morning cooking and cleaning like crazy, had my sister in law over for lunch, then cut grass, rode BJ and did groundwork with Allie, and finished at the grandparents of my daughter's best friend watching them set off fireworks. BJ continues to amaze me with how soft and responsive he can be, he's just really good. Allie was in a mood and threw a buck my way while lunging, so she got a whack for that and we ended on a good note. how about you? I know you said you had to work, did you have any time for a cookout with your family? glad your temps are low for this time of year. we had a couple of really hot weeks, up around high 90's-100, which is too hot for our june, but it has since cooled off to the 80's. I like that MUCH better. like you, just because it's normal for where we live doesn't mean we have to like it, lol.
yeah, don't know anything that will keep your legs strong for riding except riding. I have heard doing exercises with one of those giant balls helps with balance and core muscles, and I guess you could practice "riding and cuing" it for strength building. I know, it can be hard to ride as much as you want, especially since you don't own a horse right now. even when you have a horse, work and school and chores make it hard to find the time. it's the constant struggle all horse lovers have, best I can tell. but those times you do get to ride make it worth it.
well, hope your weekend is going well. take care.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom,Gracie.

Hi. The camp sounds fun and not too crazy, with only a few kids. How are the lessons coming? Yes, hard to keep weekend help, I've noticed that in most all types of jobs.
I've never had any trouble finding a saddle to fit my horses before, but QHS are a pretty standard size and build. Little Allie is proving to be a challenge though, and she seems to be extra sensitive to saddle fit. Her sire is the same way and he can comfortably wear a Tucker endurance saddle, so I was looking at them, but even in a used saddle, they're pretty expensive. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the saddle I've bought. It has a flex tree, and I'm hoping that that and maybe some creative padding will make it comfortable for Allie. We'll see.
It's been unusually hot here, so haven't been riding a lot. The horses stay sweaty all day, just hanging out grazing, so I can't see throwing a saddle on them and working them when they're already so hot. If I don't have to work the next day, late evening rides work out. How about where you are, has it been crazy hot there too?
well, hope you have a good weekend and get some horse time.

just dropping by on a Saturday morning. ive had a summer bug that's taken forever to get over, but feeling better. Gracie and Allie both came up limping at a trot the other day. no swelling or reason that I can see, so theyre on rest and improving. and BJ's breathing is on and off (his heaves), and generally doesn't breathe as well the hotter it gets. so all in all, none of us are doing much. im about to go nuts to ride, lol.
the current project is to find Allie a saddle that fits. she doesn't like my western saddle. thought I would try her in the synthetic saddle and also in my old dressage saddle. she is narrow and has fairly high withers and a short straight back, so she'll be a little bit of a challenge.
what's been up with you? are you busy taking care of peoples' horses who're are on vacation? are you enjoying not having school work hanging over your head? hope you are having a great weekend.

yep, im sure you are really enjoying blue skies again. seems like wet ground cracks easier when dried. sounds like someone just turned the water off and, bam, it's dry again, lol. yes, all the seasons have their good points and bad points, but it's nice to have them and watch them change. im like you, id rather have seasons too.
we were dry all of May, but getting some rain now. I think once it turned loose of TX and OK, it can now come over us in the east, lol. we aren't getting anywhere near as much as yall had, thank goodness.
so now that the weather has cleared, are you able to get in a lot of riding? sounds like you had enough horses lined up to keep you busy.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom,Gracie.

I know you are very tired of mud and rain and clouds. sure hope this spell is coming to an end soon for y'all, and blue skies return.
I love training colts. with every one you train, you learn so much, and that makes the next one easier. ive only started about 6-8 of my own horses through the years, and im getting too old to be doing it anymore, but sure love it. it's so much fun to figure them out and watch them learn. every one has been different, to some degree.
yeah, I guess under normal circumstances, you don't really need a covered arena, except to keep the sun off. we don't either, here, but it would be nice. and sometimes, like now, you just cant ride without one.
hope you have a good sunday and see some sunshine soon.

just dropping off a Friday morning vote. I hate you've had all that rain. been watching it on the news and sure hope you are doing okay. do you still ride at the place your pics are taken with the covered arena? that's a handy thing to keep you dry and also out of the sun when you have your usual hot dry weather in the summer. take care and have a good Friday.

Yep, I call her my little "wild thing" all the time, just because of her looks. She's so sweet though. I even rode her bareback for a few minutes the other day, just at a walk, but it was her's and mine first "ride" together and I was proud of her.
Our weather has been your opposite...dry. only 1 rain this month, about a quarter of an inch. Our grass is going dormant, not growing and crunching under your feet. it does let me ride, but my pasture is dying and there won't be any hay after the first cutting if we don't start getting rain soon. I keep hearing about the dangerous weather you and OK are having. Sure hope it changes soon for you.
oh, those camps sound great. Will they have them this summer if it keeps raining like it's been? Glad you have a string of horses to ride and groom this summer.
Well, gotta head out to work. Hope you have a great day.

sounds like you have quite the mix of horses to ride. Bailey is 17 hds? wow! that's a really tall horse. I usually am around stock horses, 16 hds is about as tall as I see most of the time. I sat on a horse that was , I think, 17-18 hds tall, and it felt really crazy being up that high, lol.
yeah, when families get to the time when the kids are teens, have jobs, etc, it gets hard to get everybody's schedules to mesh for a vacation. then, if you throw in critters, just that much harder.
have you considered being a camp counselor somewhere? I did that one summer and had a really good time, plus got paid for it. it's not the same as being a camper, but still fun.
well, I finally have a day off. I have to fix the electric fence- it wasn't getting the charge for some reason, and so the horses broke out of it. sure hope that doesn't take all day, want to ride a little too, lol. have a good thur

Hi it was so good to hear from you. I know it's a huge relief to have this semester behind you. Sounds like a doozy of an exam you had. Good job getting through it. Does your brain feel a bit battered after that one?
so glad you have a very horsey summer lined up and a lot of barn time. That'll be a nice change after school. What kinds of horses will you be working?
Nothing new here. The horses are looking sleek in their new summer coats and filling out a bit on grass. Weve been on Allie a few times and shes done well, but not going to really ride her seriously until shes 3. BJ has a popped stifle. The vet said to work him up and down hills at a trot or over trot poles, but it hasnt helped much. Its always something with him, poor guy. Our weather has been pretty sedate here, but I've heard about the floods in TX and the tornadoes in the Midwest and the cold Temps in the northeast. Crazy.
Well, hope you have a good weekend ahead of you. Does your family travel much in the summer? We don't due to all the critters but we took vacations as a kid and I always enjoyed them. Take care and have a good friday.

we've had some days up near 80 too, but mostly cooler than that, thank goodness. as you say, there's plenty of time yet for the hot weather.

so glad your saddle is comfy and you love it.
in person, Allie looks like a yearling or something you would walk on a leash. she's still very small and petite. im told Tackies mature slowly, so im hoping that she'll truly look like a horse one day. ive only seen 3 adult Tackies up close, and they all look like horses, small horses, but horses. Allie enjoyed her belated birthday treats yesterday. I was going to really brush her and fluff her up, but it was raining and she was soaking wet. cant really brush a wet horse, so I sprayed detangler in her mane and tail and turned her back out.
hope you have a good Friday and a good weekend.

Doesn't sound wimpy at all, says the lady from SC, lol. We've had similar weather the past few weeks and its just cold and raw outside. This week is supposed to be wet but warmer.
I have a dressage saddle too and its also really comfortable. I usually ride western though, partly cause I like western tack, and partly cause I've never had a very good seat-a spook can undo me easily. Its a bugger to love riding and not be very good at it.
Your cob headstall might fit a lot of future horses, but I can see where you'd need a horse sized one too.

it was too drizzly and muddy to ride yesterday, but I enjoyed brushing and visiting my herd at their dinner time. I found an old pic of BJ as a yearling. ive gotten so used to seeing him grey, that it was weird seeing him the dark red-brown he used to be.
