How We Met
me and my family lived in Colorado for a job at a camp.then the camp closed down.and they had horses and so they were selling them and hope was one of them and we bought her.and then we moved to Michigan. we have been in love ever sins. :).

Hey!! It is Lara & Mac here!! Well I am sooo sorry we have not been on HC very much this past year and we had a very busy school year that is now coming to an end and we will have some more time for horse channel!! Now is the best part of the year when school comes to an end and horse shows kick it into full gear!!
Anyways so I will update you on me and Mac’s progress so far this year, we started off the winter riding only once a week and that was going really good, Mac was accomplishing sooo much!! Then it came time for the annual awards banquet which is head every year and me and Mac did wonderful winning 5 championship provincial awards and 3 jr champion zone awards, which is wonderful!! Since we did so well in our province we are trying to qualify for the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Dressage!! It is a big job but we hope we make the team!!! Now we are riding twice/three times a week to train hard for the Summer Games and the upcoming filled summer of horse shows!! So wish us luck and we hope we do well!!
Anyways let me know what you and your horse are up to and what your plans for summer are because I would love to hear them!!! Well hope all is well and left a vote!!!! Also Me & Mac would love to run for July HOTM and would really love your support!!

Pixie Dust for HOTM #101958
this is susan & the herd blogging for our angel crew today. we hope you're all voting for our darling shetland angel pony.
everything about joanna has pretty much been said. she was a selfless woman who used her computer to empower herself. when i heard that she died, i went to facebook to find her last comment. wouldn't you know, it was helpful advice to others who had so many complaints about the changes that were recently made on FB. her last entry was "how to get your feedback to normal again." she broke it down in step by step explanation. she had grateful thanks from 3 others telling her they sppreciated it. she's a real example of the expression, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade."
thank you for the HOTD for scooter, the driving pony. we had a blast at the clinic. about 8 people turned up. we'll have another next month. she's doing a series of 4 basic driving lessons.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

i've been busy mowing my pasture and fenceline. rode sing yesterday. nice windy day in the outside arena. she's so good. i told her she needs to make it to age 35 for me. our years together are flying by! it's been 14 so far. Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

Who was Joanna Wicke? It's not easy to describe such a beautiful lady. Joanna, who was only 34, was one of our special friends on HC who was always there with love, support, encouragement and a daily vote for each of us. She was easy to love and gave us love in return. She never let on to any of us that she was sick. When she passed away September 23, 2011, we were all shocked and heart broken. Her sweet Pixie Dust followed her to Heaven on February 27, 2012. i had fun after work tonight. i worked with peach, then buttercup. i was calling them, "queen peach cobbler" & "the duchess of buttercup". i polished their hooves with some pine tar mix i made up since they're getting dry and cracked. :/ i sprayed them down with insect repellent and the stalls, too. the mosquitoes are getting bad. it really helped me unwind after work.

I ride a horse that's 22! Captain, please go visit his page and leave a vote. That's not too good if your horse is getting bad arthritis. Captain is 22, and he has been shown all his life, so he doesn't have very bad arthritis thankfully. If he is stiff and is tripping a lot, then I recommend getting some joint and health supplements. I=As long as it's not too much for your horse, then I think you should basically be able to do anything with them

another riding day for me! i rode sing at walk, trot & canter and worked in 2 pt position some. also practiced halting and moving forward off my leg. she's a big sluggish so i want to keep her fine tuned. :) Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

she should be able to trot over a one foot high jump with no problems but not in your uneven pasture. you want a nice flat area with decent footing. first try walking and trotting over a ground pole before you jump. has she ever jumped before? alot of trail horses have to jump over logs on the path. camp horses sometimes jump for games. it would be easier if she's done it before. cantering by with a saturday vote! had a busy day and i'm off for "game" night with friends. not sure what we're going to play but i like to play. no cards, though. not so good at those games. :)
the best thing for arthritis is to keep them moving. gentle riding will keep the joints supple. i have 3 old horses that have stiffness from arthritis. they can still give a nice ride just don't plan on fast take offs, stops or jumping more than a foot. i have videos of my lesson riders practicing walking in the 2 pt or trotting in 2 pt. i don't know if it would help you to watch them. i have quite a few videos on here. do you ever watch HC vids? you can get lots of ideas. i also have a website crosscreekstable.com that links to youtube and FB where you can see what my lesson riders do to practice. hope that helps.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

all purpose saddles are fine. i have a synthetic kincade.
i would suggest you practice riding in 2 point (standing in stirrups), use the mane to hang onto at first if you have trouble keeping yourself out of the saddle and riding without stirrups at walk and trot. you can practice posting (if yu don't already know how) at the walk and then the trot. i fyou go to the training section on HC you can scan the different articles on english riding and find info.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

it's rodeo time in houston so today i dusted off my stetson, put my chaps on and rode sing in my aussie saddle. trying to play cowboy is fun sometimes! i took a few pics and a video. we played a version of flag race except we used a riding crop and carried it from point "a" to point "b". it sounds like with the uneven footing you're limited in what you can do. please don't ride out with the loose horses! they can get to playing and cause your horse to buck or run. you can get hurt much easier if you're in the middle of loose horses.
riding english does require better balance since you have a more shallow seat in the saddle. you hold the same basic position though just a shorter stirrup. i had to ride out on the road when i first got sing due to bad footing in the pasture. not a good idea either, though i was on country roads. is there anyway you can get fill dirt in to cover the holes? that 's what you need, if only in a spot big enough for a round pen.Come visit me, Sing & Herd.

well the only good news that i have to say after hearing about tango and Rajah is that it's snowing here for the first time this year :)

i'll give you some ideas. don't know if you ride in arena, pasture or down the road though. i ride in arena and pasture. if you have cones or buckets to circle around that helps too. here are ideas without any supplies.
mix it up with your rides. don't always walk, trot canter, etc. sometimes i do only walking and halting, backing, and relaxing. other times i do conditioning timed rides (trot 15 minutes, canter 5 minutes). you can practice your position by riding in 2 point or without stirrups. you can practice figures like serpentines, figure 8's, clover leaf, etc, at walk, trot then canter. if you don't have an arena you can use landmarks like trees, fence posts, etc to designate where you will turn or make changes. you can also use old buckets or milk jugs to mark off an area. i play games, too. stand and face the arena wall, then turn and race to the opposite end. try shortening or lengthening your stride. on first try you might canter 18 strides down to the end, next time try to shorten and canter 20 strides, then next lengthen and canter 16. same with trot strides. pole work helps stretch them over topline so that's good if you have poles. my one old horse has such short strides in the back that he steps on the pole with his hind so i don't do that with him. hope this gives you some ideas. i have tons more! lol.

I've never heard of a silver fox english saddle, sorry. And no, an all purpose saddle does NOT hurt the horse IF it fits it right. just make sure you've got the right size saddle for you and your horse. And the amount of padding depends on your horses back. If it's swayed then you'll need more, but other than that, you should be good with one.

hey are silver fox english saddels good or bad...and what abowt a all purpose english saddel with a regular tree with a web gerth on a areb and draft horse. and is a all purpose saddel good or bad dose it hert the horses back i herd that there was a english saddel that herts a horses back..i gust wonted know your thouts.....P.S. there is pic abuv of my horse....i rilly wont saddel and my horse is sumwut stocy .....and dose it matter how much pading there is under the seet. i rilly dont know much abowt english saddels .thank you
