Update 10/5/11: I caught her and Jo scratching each others backs I almost had a heart attack.
sometime in january 2012: Mischief starting biting, bucking, kicking, rearing for no apparent reason.
Sometime in maybe April 2012: We have sent Mischief off to a trainer.
July 1, 2012:Mischief is doing great! She has stopped bucking and biting. She will kick at the trainers when they are feeding, and she also charges to the front of the stall when someone walks past. So it's an improvement!

"i'm back" @ first i thought YOU were back :( please do come back!! I miss you!! I have already lost one great friend on here and I don't want to loose another :(
here to wish you a very happy and blessed CHRISTmas. Don't forget the true meaning of Christmas-Jesus came down to Earth as a Man, and later He died for our sins.
This Christmas could be sad. My grandpa (my Mom's dad) has lung cancer, as most of you know, and he is very very sick. Last night we were all there and we said 'good-bye' to him. He wanted to die, he had so much pain. Well, he didn't, and Mom is over there this morning. He had a beautiful prayer last night, asking protection for all those who travel for his funeral, and he said several times "Jesus, please!" I don't want him to suffer, yet it will be a sad Christmas for my grandma if he passes away. At least he will be in Jesus' arms with no pain. ♥
Tonight, we are going to have a candlelight supper, then open our gifts, like we usually
do. I don't know yet what we are doing Christmas day. Mom is pregnant and due any day, now, so anything could happen :)
I went riding and ponied Flicka yesterday with Sharon. We ran a lot and it was really nice. I hope I get to ride on Christmas day.
I'm listening to Christmas music (Casting Crowns) on Pandora.com and its so beautiful!!

I hope you gals and guys are saddling up Saturday and/or Sunday in support of our Veterans. People who give or gave their lives for others each day they served, when they really did not have to do so. Wow, what amazing people they are.
My granddad was in WWII and my oldest son has served in the Afghanistan wars, working on communications devices. I have one cousin serving in the navy, that was injured during the attack against the United States Navy destroyer USS Cole on October 12, 2000.
We all are affected by the military in some way.

Hi! That's great the Mischief is back! I'm sure you missed her. I hear that she has an attitude now haha! Yup I knew a mare like that. She was real sassy and could be a real pain to deal with. Just remember to show her who's boss (I'm sure you've heard that already). Thats what Boy was doing today I lunged him and he broke away twice galloping and bucking just because he was testing me. So I just got him back on the lunge and just walked at walking and stopping as beginner as that sounds! It was good for him, he really listened to me and even though we could absolutely no exercise done haha, by the end he respected me more which was great! So my advice is don't give up on her and be the boss. Don't worry you're not the only one dealing with a sassy horse! I think all of our horses have had those days!

Please remember a returning past member of HC and our Arabian friend MSU Summer Storm #244887. She was put down during the week of 10-26-2012.
We have plans of riding today, but I am not feeling up to a trip across town just yet because it is cool and gray outside. I guess if we were going, we should have left by now. LOL. It suits me just fine to stay home today. Oh, our annual Pig Festival is today also. Don't think I'll make that either. LOL! Bad me! I DO feel like spending time with Fancy at home though.

I had a great Horsey day with Sadie. She's was so good. She even lifted 3 of her hooves for me to pick them. I had to work with the left front one until she gave in. Didn't take long. When I dismounted after our ride, my legs were tired from being out of shape. Felt like noodles. It's a good tired, tho'. Hugs and a vote. HEy mischief, glad to hear you're back!!! I never had a horse like that before, so I don't know how to deal with it. Just be careful :)
here's a vote for you!!! The clinic was great! For those of you who don't know: my friend's older brother (Respeto Horsemanship) had a horsemanship clinic on Saturday. He mostly did ground-work with a 3 yo sorrel gelding that hadn't been worked with very much. He used a carrot stick, like the Parelli's. It was mostly stuff that I knew already, but it was still very interesting watching it "for real". He mostly got him used to the stick, then moving away from pressure and stopping and standing still. Then, after lunch, he worked with the saddle, and actually sat on him a couple times!! That was really neat.
I actually learned the most from watching everybody getting their horses groomed and saddled up for the trail ride afterwards. :~) One of my pet peeves is when horses don't respect their owners. So many of the horses didn't: they would move while the rider was still getting on, they would "drag" their handler over to the grass, they would "push and shove". It was an experience that made me realize how important R-E-S-P-E-C-T is!!! One lady was getting her (large) Paint out of the trailer. "Oh, he paws terribly." and "he needs to learn some manners", was what she said. Well, then teach him manners!! Teach them respect for their handlers.
Well, that's what I learned :~) Sorry, I didn't get any pictures. And I didn't get to go on the trail ride afterwards after all.
After I came home, I was "in the mood". I got Sweet Pea out and did some groundwork; ground-tying, lowering her head, moving away from pressure, and leading respectfully.
Then (with the Western) I took her out on a short ride, about an hour, but mostly walking and jogging.
On the field lane, I decided I'm going to try cantering. Well, the first time didn't go so well, but the next time I shortened my reins slightly, and went into a comfortable trot, like I was going to trot all day. Then, I quietly sent her into a canter. We cantered nicely for about 10 strides, then I pulled her up again. I think that's what we'll have to do, and work up until I can get her to canter for longer periods.
Then, she was getting really hyper (it was where we usually gallop) so I made her stop, and I took my feet out of the stirrups and just made her stand there for really long, then when I told her to go again, she was perfectly calm. I have to remember to do that!!
On Sunday, my dad's side of the family went on a hayride, then hiked and ate supper. The fall colors were so beautiful!!

I read your blog asking about behaviors, I have not had time to answer that. I think some horses want to challenge authority. They want to know who is in charge and if they don't find an answer, they decide someone needs to be in charge and I guess they figure, it might as well be them. LOL. I do not know why your girl is acting this way. But it sounds like it could develop into something serious in the future. Could you ask the person who had her for training, how her behavior was at their barn? And ask them about a solution. Ask different people and look it up on the internet. Get some professional advice from the vet, because it could be something wrong that you can not see. Take all the information you gather and put together a plan of correction for her. If that plan does not seem to work, change the plan. Something will help. You just have to figure out what.

Hi! Did you have a busy, fun weekend? What have you been up to?
I have been on the move, but I enjoyed it! Saturday morning, Fancy participated in her first parade! It was a really big homecoming parade, with lots of tight crowds and loud bands! Fancy was excited for the first 15 to 20 minutes, but after that she was very relaxed and was not bothered by bouncing children on the sidelines. In past years, I have ridden my previous horses in this parade, but I never got to participate in the tradition of riding around the football field before the game. I could not get my past horses onto the football field because they were afraid. Well yesterday, I did for the first time, ride around the football field, with my Fancy! Fancy even took the lead and she did that running walk at least half way around! It was so much fun! I will never forget the first time I got to ride around the football field!!!!! Oh, and to boot, the home team won their game!!!!!! I would like to believe Fancy gave them good luck when she went around the field. LOL!
Half way through the day all I could think of was how this has to be my best day ever with Fancy. And then I think to myself, I have had so many days that I thought were my best day ever with Fancy! Saturday morning, I lost my keys on the way out of town. The keys fell off the side of the trailer or the truck. But I found them completely mangled on the side of a busy street after 6 hours of being run over in heavy traffic. Even though I had the lost key problem, I still had that feeling of this being the best day ever!
Saturday night, our family attended our horseshow end of year banquet. This was our first time attending and I had no idea what to expect. So, I did not take my camera and I was very surprised to see Little Cowboy & Trigger won a good bit of awards. Little Cowboy was so excited to share the awards with Trigger, they used their new snaffle bit and new grooming kit tonight. He is going to save his new blanket for next years show season. Little Cowboy rode until dark, and I did get a few pictures tonight before it got too dark.

i spent hours on a practice batch of those horse cupcakes i want for my halloween horse costume party. waaay too much work but they were a hit at my friends house tonight. i posted some pics. kinda hard to see the detail but they're a chocolate cupcake with a wafter cookie stuck into it for the neck & body. the horse head is a marshmallow circus peanut candy coated with white chocolate and frosted to look like mane. don't know if i want to spend that much time making them again. we'll see. no riding this week end. just chores. it's 90 again.

Left a welcome home vote for Mischief, I hope her attitude improves now that she is back with you. Maybe she is just REALLY mareish....what about breeding her, maybe that would settle her down a bit. It's not like you haven't tried EVERYTHING ELSE. As for Charlie's hoof, he had a small toe crack in the spring, it got away from us and he ended up with white line disease, he had surgery the first of August and the pictures on his page show the progress the last ones, were last week, 9 1/2 weeks after the surgery, it has really grown down. I have been riding him all thru, it isn't as fragile as it looks, the shoe is holding everything together. I have the worst luck. Thank you so much up to 56,000
My friend Sara suffers from a blood disease that causes her platelet numbers to drop. She is in full swing now. Normal is 200,000, her normal is 50 - 80,000, When they found out her numbers dropped she was at 200, she is now at 56,000. Please pray for Sara. She is on Mercy profile.
