About Me

Active within 6 Days

I am from tompkinsville, KY and I've been a Club Horse member for 5 years, 1 month and 29 days

Nicknames: Shy and Shygirl

Age: 17 years old

Gender: Mare

Breed:

Height: 15 hands

Color: That is one question no one can seem to answer. In the spring she sheds to a palomino and gradually turns white (grey) with dapples so I have no clue as to what breed or color she is.

Type of Riding: None she is very tempermental but on occasion you might get her to walk for you. Other than that don't have any blood pressure issues because you have to really push her to go. So I don't ride her. Discovered a way for her to earn her keep-lead rides. She turned out not to mind kids grooming her and riding her as long as she is on lead rope.

My Horse's Achievements: Hasn't tried to kill present farrier. Allows me to lead her with my niece on her back.

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Anything she can get away from Apache but loves watermelon and apples. Best in Show apple molasses treats.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Eat be brushed and petted but it all has to be on her terms. When she feels like it. A true mare.

Pet Peeves: Apache and the dogs whips

My Horse's motto: Love takes time.

How We Met

She was living at my neighbors house I would walk by everyday and give her and another horse treats because the owners weren't taking very good care of them. He sold them after she lost her foal. I bought her out of mercy because she was very neglected and took awhile to get her to trust me and others (the vet couldn't believe it was the same horse he had to chase with his truck to treat her after losing her foal when she needed treated for colic.).

Sunday vote from Whisper, Willow and the little herd for you. NIce out today....so far...getting some jobs done outside, that usually is too hot out in the morning to do. Trying to move the turtle cage out to the shed for the little keets, because they are out growing their rabbit cage. The turtle cage is about 5 feet high, 4 ft wide and 10-12 ft long, and no bottom, so they can learn to scratch in the dirt. Because its made from chicken wire, I can put long sticks in for roosts, also put branches, and plants so that they learn to hide in the grasses. I feed them clover and grasses now, but cut it up with the scissors. They are too small to be out with the little chicks, yet. The keets have one fault, they hide their little heads into a hole....like between the hay bales, when being picked on, thinking they can not be seen, but they do not know how to move backwards, only forwards, so they get deep between the bales and die. They are a very smart bird...except for that one stupid fault. So I keep them safe until they are older. Most are spoken for except for the ones I will keep...some different colors than what I have now.

Today the humidity is so bad, that we have fog and mositure on everything....like raining inside.
Well, Mistit's due date certainly is a mystery....she nearly is past the last due date, first week in Aug, next one will be near the end of Aug. It's been a long baby watch for all of us. I keep checking to see if she has milk, which she does

I guess I will never complain about the cold, when the heat is this bad. 10 o'clock and horses have all ran into the shed. We brought all the round bales in this morning, Mike brought them in, and I just help make sure he is getting them straight. So while he is doing that, I moved most of the baby chicks, now about 3 weeks old into the chicken coop, there is a separate little room in there, for feed, but feed never gets into it, so nice place for chicks. They have out grown their large rabbit cage. At least there is a window to open.
Baby guineas, (keets) are hatching now, I can hear them inside the incubator. Have another batch due next Saturday. Wanted to take them to the next swap on the 30th, but that is our family reunion, (Mike's side) this time near Minneapolis, about 3-4 hours away. Most people are staying over night, but we have no one to check on critters, so we will just go for a bit and come home. Stay cool, sorry I did not read any one's comments to me, so will try to catch up later on any news.

A vote from Whisper, Willow and the little herd. Cloudy today and is suppose to rain. Can not get 3 nice days in a row to make hay, and since we do not have equipment have to have neighbors help. I finished the garden, at least of pulling 5 gallon buckets of weeds out. I have been eating beets and carrots already, plus things that grow fast like lettuce and radishes. Cucumbers, winter and summer squash, way too many tomatoes, since I had to replant about 16 of them, I now have close to 25 plants, many just come up by themselves, and I move them to a row, or a place where something did not grow. Dill is growing here and there, but I also plant it in flower beds, since butterflies like to lay their eggs on it. Potatoes are now have flowers. Flower beds mostly can take care of themselves, since they are "grow where you fall" type gardens. Lots of them about 17 small ones, and all around the house. I have no color theme, just what the butterflies and birds like. I have one corner of the house, where the water hose comes out, that I need to redo, since I had to dig it up, but this year, I just planted pumpkins there, to keep the weeds down.

Good Morning vote from Whisper, Willow, and the little herd. "Today" I take it all back about Pickles being a "problem child", he was so good, I guess him having to be in the other pen, made him be on his best behavior. So, he got staked outside of the pen, (with Mistit) as a treat. Let me put his halter on and gave him a treat, and he followed me out, without tugging, did a few whoa, and "kissing" to step up. We'll see what the day brings with him.

Spent most of yesterday, in between the rain showers on my knees, not praying in church, but weeding the garden. Nearly caught up, still have the one row left between the potatoes and squash, planted another package of beets, because I have been picking nice size beets, and also carrots. The rabbits, Auroa, BB, and guinea pig, Raisin, said they are ready and taste great.Just North of us, road have been washed out, over 0 inches of rain, 3 people died. 30 some people, camping had to be rescued at a camping ground. Seen pictures, and its a messy. North of us is a big tourist area. I wish I had smaller gates to make little stalls, and a better way to clean them out. Right now, I have one big pen inside the shed, and a fenced in area under the lean-to part of the shed. So when I open back big door, it has a long 20 ft board up to keep ponies out of the small sq. bales of hay, and then the 2 side doors, its stays breeze and cooler inside, but also makes a messy with poop and being wet. So, I have been trying to see where I could bring Pickles in or outside the shed, daily to work with him, by himself, without all his little friends being in the way. I hope your weather clears up for you. We, too, have been getting rain, but I know enough not to complain. Nice yesterday, besides the rain, had around 70's.

Things are always busy here, never seem to have enough time, to really finish most jobs. Trying to get weeds pulled from the garden, pulled 5 - 5gal bucket full, like just packed them in, for the pigs and guinea hens that have to stay in, because they do not listen very well....take after me, I guess. They like to go on the road, so I lock the hens in and let the 2 males out, and 1 in. Later, this evening after supper, I let them all out, but then I can be out weeding flower beds and keep a eye on them better. I ride Willow a bit each evening, and try to work with Pickles too. Too many little ones around to get any place with him. I have never seen a horse so afraid of hands, unless I start behind him. If he is tied, he is not bad, but out in the pen, its like always out of reach. He is not aggressive, and I can start at his but and work my way up to his head, or under his chin, as long as the hands are out of site. I wish he could talk to tell me what happened to him. Paisley is nothing like that at all.

Little pigs are getting very playful, I like to watch them play while I am trying to get caught up on weeding the garden. I am so surprised how much weeds grew in just a few days. Black sow only has 2, and white sow, 5. Last night Mother Nature put on a fireworks show. Nearly 2 inch of rain.
Been getting in short rides on Willow, Whisper is in heat, and I do not want her chasing Willow, because when she runs, is when she limps.

MaMa pig is fine. She gets up a lot more than what I remember our other sows, (from yrs ago) did, but I really think it was because the heat. The baby pigs are so cute and tiny compared to her, she is a good Mama. I see her push the babies into one spot with her nose, before she lays down. Her 350 pounds would surely, squash them.
I have my camera all ready. to take some first pictures of Mistit's foal. I just hope I figured out all the days right, by counting back 21 days from the first date that I was told she was bred. I still say she like her special treatment. Going to rain today. Yesterday, we moved the fence next to the woods getting ready to cut the hay field. Our son worked up a small deer plot, and we planted that with sugar beets. Moved little chicks out out to the shed into large rabbit cages and kept the baby keets in, well, until they get bigger.

The mini flood in the living room was caused by the hubby, who was playing weatherman, again. Sure hope he does not take it up as a living. Same guy, who said was not going to freeze last night. Good thing I covered tomato plants, there was frost this morning, frost but no baby.
Ponies staying in at night so they can lay where it is dry and warm, sure is making a messy in the back of shed. This morning, "someone" decided to empty the barrel of empty feed bags, pull down another bale of hay, tip over water buckets, and I am sure they tried to let the rooster out of the rabbit hutch.

Both colts are feeling better, I gave each one a bute tablet in the morning. Have to dissolve it in warm water, and mix a bit of sugar with it. When I talk to them, both have that innocent look in their eyes, which are very kind expressive eyes. Like who me!! I did not do that. I have to find the time to make up a page just for them, instead of having so many. Been raining like cats and dogs here, high winds yesterday, now it cool today. Hopefully, I can get some inside work done. Garden needs replanting and weeding, but with all this rain, can not even tiller. Did hand pulling weeds around the tiny carrots and beets, beans and peas are one here, and 6 ft away the second one. Once we can till, I will transplant whats there. Today is grandson, Tristan's, first day at collage for linesman school, of course flat tire, so GrPa is going down to help him out, about hour and a half one way. Well, have to go, I hear the goats calling me.

No baby yet, talk to the woman, and she said Mistit could go 10 days over her last breeding date. But the goat, Zero, cry so much when I have to stake him out, so I got him a little friend, now I have two of them crying. Hatched out 8 of the 12 pheasant eggs, they are so tiny. About 15 guinea keets, and I sold 10 already, but that 40 dollars will go right back into feed. Gelding is tomorrow, so have to clean up a bit "again". Just hay and stuff the goats seem to like to knock down.

No, baby yet, but by the piles of "horse apple" in the corner, I would say she is cleaning out her system.
Have to put together all the things to have ready for tomorrow, not alot but need halters, ropes, clean towels for the colt's eyes, and I told Mistit to wait until the vet is here to have her baby.
Suppose to rain, so need a area inside ready too.

Well, Thursday is the date set for gelding. Going to get both little boys done, Pickles and Clippers. Gave tetanus shots, and making sure I have everything ready. Did not break the news to them. Pickles still is not good at being tied, but alot better than what he was. Mistic got her shots to protect her new foal as well. Been keeping her in at night, just incase, but May 23 was the earliest date, and in early June about the latest. Her bag is hard, but not painful to touch. It is suppose to rain the next 4 days or so, and I would hate to have to run between the rain drops to check in the middle of the night

Told one lady I would trade her all my baby chicks, for her little baby and even throw in a bar of homemade soap. Her little girls were shaking their heads "No" and the little boys were all smiles saying "Yes". I came home with 3 little "toy" mice for my kittens to place with.

Between getting the goat, a wether, who must think I am his Mom, all he says is MaMaMama....smile emoticon And the guinea pig, named Raisin. and I do not have his pen/cage ready yet. Guinea hens that do not want to get along with each other, and two turtles that need to go outside, but with our temps still in the 20's in the morning, I do not want to take the chance on them getting too cold. All 22 of my tomato plants froze, even with being covered. And the little ponies (3) young ones ran right threw the electric fence this morning, I think they are afraid of the goat, who is still in the shed. I guess, everything sounds normal here.......wink emoticon

Still working on the outdoor stove, it is working, "but" now the water is not coming around threw out the house. We have hot water heat, and someplace in a pipe there must be a airlock. Here I thought our house would be warm tonight, but maybe not. Weather is miserable outside. Still rainy and cold. Moved one batch of chicks to the calf hutch, moved the bigger ones to the little room in the chicken coop, so soon they will be going outside. Making room in the back of the shed so ponies can have a pen on that side, has large siding door, and then their pen Mistic will get because it has a large pen outside under the lento where when she foals, I can put them to keep them safe. May 23 is due date.

A "late" Happy Mother's Day to you, even if you are only the mother of 4 legged ones.
Busy weekend....hatched out 42 out of 48 eggs, for me that is great. Sold 8 guinea hens on Saturday and 15 chicks, but out poor outdoor stove is taking all that money to fit it. Now the best new, Pickles finally progress to a point that he can have his halter OFF. Does not run away, and no long afraid of hand movements....sometimes, he moves his head, but not his feet. Been following me around, like I am his best friend. Negative side of no halter, is....I can not tell Pickles and Clippers apart(from just their heads), without looking at their feet. :)

Still cool this morning, but no frost. Planted more tomatoes yesterday, plus threw in squash seeds, that I saved from last yrs, I know that it is not a good idea, but it will help keep the weeds down is some troubled areas, until we have time to level off these areas. Most of them have stumps and old junk areas. But if I don't put something there, nasty weeds take over. Going to look at some Scottish Highland heifer calves tonight. Also set the guinea hen eggs in the second incubator, and of course even after running it for 3 ddays to make sure temps stay steady, they are too high last night, then too low, now it seems to level off. In 3 days will set pheasant eggs, and then fill in with chicken eggs, a few days after that, so they should all hatch out together....if I planned it right.

We are still having cold weather, seems like for the rest of the week plus a few days and then "slow" warm up. But this is Wisconsin after all. Seen 3 tiny baby goats yesterday, about the size of a cat, all curled up in the hay, open shed with their MaMa. So spring is on its way. Went to get two other roosters, for my flock, and with give my two away to a family that needs them. The last 3 baby chicks of mine did not make it, but I feel blessed with 33. I will sell some for 3 dollars each, and give a few more to the 4-H kids. I wish they were easier to tell boys from girls, other than my sister says, rooster make alot of noise when held, and the girls don't, but she was the same one that gave me a doe rabbit, and later my Crystal had 9 baby bunnies. Never trust your sisters.

More snow this morning about 4-5 inches but the wind is blowing so bad, some drifts are a foot deep, it was hard to walk to do chores, because the snow is blowing off the roofs and trees. Did not bother to even let chickens and guinea hens out. Chickens for some reason love to eat the snow off my boots, perhaps because I tell them its Ice Cream....:) Woman called to say she could not make it today to buy 8 of the guinea hens, but can make it on Tuesday. Another girl was coming for some baby chicks and did not show up yesterday. Was hoping to get enough to buy the spring shots for the ponies and Whisper. First it rains, enough to make a small lake on our lawn, now its snowing and if the weather people know what they are talking about, we could get up to 13-16 inches of snow.
