GOOD MORNING, LEFT VOTES FOR ALL, TO THANK YOU FOR YOURS. This is where Sterly's story takes a bit of a twist. FF almost 4 years, we are still at the boarding barn, Sonya is now in University, I still ride 4x a week. I started to notice a slight hesitation from Sterl that was new, she did not want to go forward, at first it was mild, and I could push her thru it, but it got worse. She would actually do a small buck and a very tiny rear when I asked for forward. This was so out of character for her, but ever her resistance was polite, like she was trying to get my attention, she did. Believe me when I say there were lots of suggestion from folks that observed us, most thought that it was behavior and that I was not strong enough and I was letting her get away with it, one woman told me I had to beat her hard enough to make a welt on her skin, that would smarten her up!!!. I chose to call Dr. Cook, I explained the situation and we made arrangements for him to come and see her, I asked if it could be "just" behavior, he said "whenever a horse that was happy with its work begins to resist, they are trying to tell you something is wrong", in the meantime carry on as normal, act like everything is fine TO BE CONTINUED, Talk soon, love Donna Lee & STERLY GIRLY

Hi Angel PF, here's a vote for ya. Had an awesome ride on Paige today. I even put a neck rope on her and gave the reins a lot of slack, like I don't ride that way anyhow! The grabbed the neck rope and worked her. She did well, not perfect, but good. Got a little faster at the lope and jog than what she's trained to do, but I didn't put a lot of leg on her either, I know Karen would have her going better like that. But I'll work on it once a week. Had them out this afternoon in the warm sun. Mowed another pasture, now I can't start all over again tomorrow with the lawn and follow with the pastures! LOL! Had some Sadie time today. We both need it everyday. It's getting hot here, so I didn't ride. I put the halter on her and walked her off the property. She was a little nervous, so we took it slow, stopping when she needed to to look around and see that she was okay. Neighborhood dogs were barking at us. She walked a little fast on the way back to the house. Had to keep stopping her to slow her down. She loved it. Going to walk her more often to get her use going off the property. Going to work up to riding her. Last time I rode her off the property, she was nervous and wanted to fight me. She should trust me more now. Hugs and a vote.

Hi Angle PF, here's a vote for ya. Had a really good ride on Paige today. Needed it, started the day off with my washing machine taking a dump on me. I think this time it's a gonner! It's almost 35 years old, what'a ya think? Of course it was full of laundry and water, had to try and hand ring things out, bring them upstairs and handwash in the kitchen sink. Not my idea of fun! But the weather was beautiful, hit 82 with sunshine and I got a lot done outside too! Love ya, Marion and the blondies.

That would be my daughter riding in the Jumping Bean's main photo taken by a photographer at a jumper horseshow. I learned to do crossrails and some very low fences on Comet, but mainly stick to western trail riding! haha

I only posted his picture for a few hours-Rocket is only 9 years old, Whiskey is 16 ! ★ I got so busy at work yesterday so I know I missed voting a few HC friends ~ sorry from my herd! GOOD MORNING, here it is day 16 already. WE LEFT A VOTE FOR YOU, and a big thanks for the wonderful support. Being a pretty new horse owner, I had sort of thought once I get the first year under my belt, I'd be good to go....Silly me, aren't we ALWAYS learning from them. One thing is for sure, if all horses were like STERL MAY, everyone would have a horse. By now she is pretty much the "sweetheart" of the barn. The owners loved her 'cause she was easy to handle, never caused a fuss and I was there regularly(every chance I had). One morning, Sterl was in the aisle cross ties, I was grooming her and Margaret was touring a new prospective boarder, they got to us and Margaret says "this is Sterl May, she is Standardbred, this horse jumps" as they walked past, I heard the guy say "nice butt!!!" HEY,he was talking about the horse. LOVE DONNA LEE & STERLY GIRLY

Went out to check on Sadie when I got home from work last night. She'd torn her fly mask off. It lasted 10 days. Hope to someday move away from the egg ranch. The flies are horrible. Temperatures are now in the triple digits, too. Sending love and leaving a vote.

Hi Anka, here's a vote for ya. Today's was Paige's lesson day with our trainer Karen. Karen worked her in the snaffle bit, lot's of getting her to really drive up into the bridle, it's better to do it with a snaffle than a western ported bit. Don't want to hurt the mouth. So after an hour and a half of her working Paige, she said, no ride for you today. She's worked hard enough for me. Then I ran some errands again! Got home and the sun was out and it was 70 degrees, out went the kids to graze and play. They enjoyed themselves! Love ya, Marion and the blondies.

GOOD LUCK FOR TOMORROW
Thanks for listening to my stories of Sterl May, I guess by now you can see just how special she is to us. The trail ride was bad, but there were tons of great stuff that happened at "the barn" One morning I had just finished my ride and we jumped a few little jumps. I had turned Sterl loose in the arena to roll. As I waited for her, one of the other boarders came in with a friend. She introduced me and said her friend just came for the visit to watch her ride. I told them I was almost done, I'd be out of the way in a few minutes. I couldn't help notice that the friend was REALLY looking at Sterly, of course I thought because she is sooooo beautiful. As I got ready to leave the arena, I called "come on Sterl May, let's go" the friend says, "what did you call her? Is she a Standardbred?" "she said, I'm K. V. this horse was born on my Dad's farm, OMG, wait till I tell Dad that I saw her, she looks great, do you jump her? he will be so happy to hear that she is alive and well", we both cried a few happy tears, what a small world, what a great horse. Hi Anka, here's a vote for ya. Today was a showmanship lesson day for both the yella's. Indy did very good on his tune up. And Piage is just awesome in those 360 degree turns. She sticks that pivot foot and spins like a top! Then they got turn out time. I mowed the lawn, one pasture and half of the sides around the indoor. Supposed to rain on WEd. Karen's coming to work with Paige and give me a lesson. Can't wait. Love ya, Marion and the blondies.

Hi, left a vote. Got to ride Amber today, rode her in my saddle, pad, headstall and bit. Took a pic of her in the cross ties with my saddle and pad and posted it on here. Anyway, she was a little nervous when I got on her today. Both ends of the arena were open like last time, and she went right by the spooky end from last time with out hesitation or batting an eyelash. It was the other end today that was spooky! LOL! We went sideways 3 times today, nothing I couldn't handle, didn't make me nervous, I just bent her head around in a circle until she stopped. Then we would go over to the spot, let her check it out, and then she was fine the rest of the day. I had to have tight reins at the beginning of the ride, but as she relaxed I was able to get more slack in the reins. She relaxed in about 8 minutes. Nice and calm and easy going the rest of the time. At the end of the ride, I stopped her in the spooky spot and she just stood there, no big deal, didn't move or nothing. Nice and relaxed. So proud of her, and well me too! Good ride today.

We will need to stop by again tomorrow with a vote too! Rode Rocky last night but just in the field since it was so windy and chilly. He was feeling full of himself with the cooler temps and not being ridden all weekend. Then he got some tall grass in the outer field as a treat (not too much yet, tho).

Thanking you all with a vote today. We were really enjoying life together at the barn. I love having the guys home but I have always missed the camaraderie of other riders support. Sterly was now jumping small courses, mostly xrails but also some verticals. We had advanced to the outdoor ring. One evening, late spring I was at the barn and had just started my warm up when a couple of the other riders came in and said "we are going on a trail ride, want to join us" We had not done that yet, so I thought OK, sounds fun.....WRONG...Sterl May thought there was something spooky behind every tree, bush, rock, everything was a monster. She just could not settle, so I could not settle. The other riders are like, she'll be fine come on. So I hang in, we struggle along, Sterl on high alert, snorting all the way. Just then we see ahead of us in the field a dozen or so cows and everyone is like HEE HAW, LETS GET 'EM. I'm like, NO. STERL JUST FREAKED...they all took off, left us there, me scared to death, Sterl just dancing and prancing. So I did what any chicken would do, I got off and we walked back to the barn. I was just fuming, nice friends, don't ever ask me to go on your stupid trail ride again, everyone had a big laugh on us, it was all soon forgotten, but we never went on another trail ride again. I hope all of you moms had a beautiful Mother's Day. I had to work, but didn't mind. Being a mom and loving my sons and they loving me in return is what makes it so special. An emotional week this week. My oldest son, a Msgt in the Air Force, leaves the end of this week for 3 years in Germany. He and his oldest son celebrate their birthdays this week, too. Hi Anka, here's a vote for ya. Don't know where you got the idea that Paige didn't like crowds on the rail. She really could care less. At the farm over the winter, they were throwing garbage out over the top of the viewing area down into a truck in the indoor arena, cleaning out an apartment up there, she never lost a stride when being ridden past them making a mess and racket! Didn't do a whole lot today. Ran downtown and did some errands. Did ride Paige though. Worked on pushing that hip over and making her hold it and travel with the shoulders straight, good exercise for the lope offs. Then worked on downward transitions and stopping and then backing on a slack rein. I gave my legs a workout! LOL! Indy got the day off. Very cold, 35 this morning and a high of 52 only, windy too. Tonight going down to 30, come'on, where's spring?????? Not here! Love ya, Marion and the blondies.

♥♡♥ Beautiful weekend! Whiskey and Deacon were awesome as usual! I often wonder if Deacon had an excellent rider with so much more talent to teach-how far could he go. He is so smooth and light in the mouth and he is so willing to try and do anything. I hope I am not holding him back from greatness…We BBQ’ed and just chilled other than my horsey time! GOOD MORNING ALL, LEFT YOU A VOTE. Today's story is my personal favorite, here it is. Lessons were going well, we were becoming quite comfortable with one another, she loved her trot poles and her friend Doolie. She was learning to flex and bend but our canter was pretty rough. Sterl would anticipate my asking and she would throw herself into it off her front, not pretty. Our instructor said if we start her on some small jumps it will help her learn to use her hind end. Sterl was already a bit of a "wonder horse" around the barn. Lots of the other riders would chuckle "you can't ride a Standardbred" We practiced our two point, our release on the flat then, when we were ready we planned to jump next lesson. Word spread thru the barn like wildfire "she is going to jump that horse, Standardbred's can't jump" So, here we are next lesson, Val has a couple of TINY xrails set up, Sonya and Doolie were there, I was as nervous as can be. We do our warm up, get sort of relaxed, just then I notice that quite a crowd has gathered at the rail. They are all there to see a Standardbred jump. I trot around the arena, line up, get in two point, get ready for my release,PANIC..I turn my head to the right and CLOSE MY EYES... when I opened them we were on the other side of the jump, STERLY DID IT, Standardbred's can jump. LOVE THAT GIRL, talk tomorrow, thanks for the votes, LOVE DONNA LEE & STERLY GIRLY
