My Whiskey boy has the antics of a comedian! In this picture I feel like he is saying “Sit Mom”. I was brushing him-you can see my boots towards his backend on the other side of him. He is so funny but yet so very gentle and lovable. He is in fact my “treat Hound”. He will do absolutely anything in the world to get a treat, cookie or carrot or anything to eat. If you show him how to do something and he knows you are going to give a treat he will try until he learns it to in fact get that treat. I have had so much fun with him. He will check me for a treat and if I don’t have one he will almost shrug me off with a turned head tossed in the air as if he is saying “I’m done with you, off you go child”
The Rocky Mountain Horse breed originated in the United States in the late 1800s, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. At the time of its beginnings, there was no understanding of the need to document anything about these horses. The people living in this region were quite unaware that one day their utility horses would become the foundation of a special breed of horse. The existence of these horses was practically a secret for many years to all but the inhabitants of this region.
Have a wonderful evening. I will phone vote tomorrow and pick back up on Wednesday. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

The more we rode the better Whiskey got at reining. The more miles and trails the easier it got on me and him. I discovered Whiskey loves the water. The picture today was taken 8/2012. We can get in a few minutes but I have to move him out or he will try to lie down, but I can take him right back in and then he settles to stand, doesn’t swim yet with me. We are still working toward that. We haven’t camped out in nearly 2 years, and that is when I can try to swim with the horses. It’s too hard to try swimming when I day ride because of the drive home (driving wet is no fun) -ha ha =) Deacon is my true water baby-he will actually swim with me and never try to lie down. I have also found that Whiskey hates for any type bug to fly in his face-so needless to say while we ride in the open if there are grass hoppers or butter flies, regular fly’s he tosses his head slightly. It doesn’t bother me now but it used to. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

The 1st few times I rode Whiskey my arms were wore out and tired. I was thinking “man what in the world”. He did not and could not Neck rein. He was very hard in the mouth, no flex in his neck but Karla & Tim told me he needed that kind of work. Tim felt he didn’t ride him in collection and so on. He was Tim’s first horse. We would get under the canopy of the trees on the trails and he would do great with my seat aids which I was happy about. That is how I ride him, with my seat and leg aids. I guess we all are supposed to do that RIGHT!!!! I then started planning my next few months of teaching him to neck rein. I just went back to the beginning and put him in an “O” ring snaffle and took it from there. Every day his personality would shine and he entertained Cliff & me with his antics! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Finally that Saturday morning rolled around. I could hardly sleep the night before. Everything was running threw my head about what I was going need and about if I had everything ready for his arrival to our place. I kept thinking about how alpha Deacon was and how they would get along. After all they have road a thousand miles of trails together. . The more I thought, the more I felt like after the ride we would come on home instead of camping. I wanted to get him home and on our property to make this dream come true for me. I had never rode Whiskey until the day I bought him, can you believe that!!! It did not matter to me how he rode at all, I wanted him and that was that! We had a nice ride that day and came on home. Cliff broke out his tools and started working around the barn. Today’s picture is of Whiskey’s first comedy show for us. He said (ha ha) “Dad, I can bring this orange Home Depot bucket to ya, I know it has feed in it for me!” Enjoy! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

We left off Friday about the phone call to buy Whiskey! The arrangement was made for us to meet that weekend and Whiskey would be mine. The next few days were like a life time to me. I had put in a vacation day for that Friday because I knew I couldn’t concentrate and I wanted to get everything ready for the trail ride …I mainly wanted to get everything ready for his new home with us. Cliff was putting in our stalls at the time. I came home the day Karla called and talked with Cliff of course. Like I said he wasn’t working but he was working at our place (love cheap labor) lol. That next day after work I came home and he had added the 3rd stall, I started to cry of course because I knew he understood how badly I wanted Whiskey. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Have a GREAT weekend !
Today’s picture is the picture Karla was going to post on craigslist & the first picture I ever had of Whiskey of my own until he became mine. When I speak of Whiskey my heart totally melts. I can get side tracked easily talking about him…so needless to say, we rode many times and camped a many a night. SO nearly 6 or 7 months later I received a call at work and it was Karla. My heart sunk, I knew she was going to say Whiskey was for sale. At that time Cliff was out of work (construction-you probably know how that goes) I was scared to ask how much they were asking. She told me what they were going to post him for on craigslist and I knew I could not afford that price. I told Karla I could not pay that price but to wait and not post until I could try a few options. She said right then that “sense you are a friend and we know how much you want and love him here is what we will sale him to you for”!!! It was like-woohoooooo! It was a price I could actually afford (not really but hey). I will get as many phone votes in over the weekend as I possibly can, mainly Sunday but will try to get some on Saturday; I will catch you up on Monday! Riding at Lake Whitney Saturday& will meet Cheryl and Cisco!!
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Good morning =)
As we ate lunch and rested, Whiskey walked over to me several times. He would nuzzle my hand (at the time I didn’t know he was a treat hound) and I felt as if we bonded and we were linked in some way. I told Karla right then and there that if they ever sold Whiskey to please contact me first. He has marbling on his lower legs that are silver, chocolate and nearly liver color (see his profile picture for today). It amazes me to still look at how he is marked; he is just absolutely beautiful-but I’m parcel!!! He is our escape artist, the one that can get into or out of ANYTHING; such a smarty pants and a treat hound lol. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Monday we left off about Whiskey’s color and me with 5 hundred questions for Karla! Here we go…That poor girl had never met me before and I could not shut up :) I then walked over and looked Whiskey right in the eye and he looked back into mine and my heart sunk. His beauty was striking and the color was outstanding. He had a smart, sharpness about him-I’m sure he was thinking “what in the world is she doing”. The ride finally got underway; usually everyone has me ride out front and calls me the trail boss! Deacon is a faster walking horse but can ride in the middle or behind after the first hour or so. Well, here comes Rio & Whiskey with their smooth selves!!! They just gaited their smooth self’s right past me & Deacy. I watched Whiskey and noticed he didn’t quite move the same as Rio but still a difference from a QH. 2 hours into the ride we decided to rest a few minutes in a place we call “Carol’s lounge”. We have names for all our spots we ride to rest or to take a break out there because it’s so big. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Many changes. Its been a crazy couple of weeks. Jack is settled in with his new mama and my friend Lynne. She loves him as I knew she would. Tonka is in the pasture and available for adoption which I try to remain in the land of denial about. Digit is doing great at our new facility. It's very fancy. I will try to remember pictures or video.

Now were into “Whiskey’s” story really good! I finished getting Deacon ready for our all day ride. We always pack drinks and hotlinks or some sort of sausage/lunch meat for lunch. Bill got a call that they were pulling in and asked us to wait a few minutes before heading out. I guess we had about 8 riders starting out then Karla & Tim made 10-oh what fun! They pulled in and parked and they started to unload the horses and of course I was already curious. Out came this Smokey chocolate colored horse, smaller built and my jaw dropped open in awe….Her horse Rio changes colors as all Rocky’s do throughout the year so he had almost a buckskin color but he is what they call a chocolate color. Then out comes Tim & Whiskey~~~~OMG I thought I would faint…..I was speechless….I had never seen a horse look like that nor that color…I went over to Karla and started all the questions and she explained that Whiskey’s color is called “Red Chocolate”. To be continued Wednesday, phone votes tomorrow =) Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Whiskey says Thank You!
In 2008 the decision was made after a talk with our boy’s and Cliff. It was time for me to get back on my horse journey. I purchased Deacon in March 23, 2008 and then bought Whiskey in May 2010. When I run Deacon I will tell more about the 1st 2 years back on my journey. Now that you have some back ground on me and my journey I will start Whiskey’s story with me. As many of you know I trail ride and use to camp with the horses all the time, now we just day ride. Hoping this spring sometime to camp again-fingers crossed =) It has been 2 years sense we have camped out with them. We would camp at Mccown or Plowman Valley at Lake Whitney Texas or at Reynolds Creek Lake Waco, Texas. During those times I have met a lot of people and their different type of horses. On one Oct. weekend we had some friends of Bill’s that was coming that I had never met. I asked Bill as we all were getting our horses ready for our ride that day, what type horses did these friends have? He said Rocky Mountain horses…I said hummmm, never heard of that breed. The thoughts in my head about this breed had me so curious. Now tomorrow we are into his story fully….hang in there! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Early year’s cont. My brother-n-law took Tawny for me and kept her until she passed away in 2002. 2 years after the kick in the back I was brave enough to buy this smaller paint- Welsh mix. She was a beautiful tri-colored paint her name was Kallie. She was gentle and slower moving. She was fat of course ha ha. I didn’t have everything I needed (trailer, truck and knowledge). I had the property and a neighbor that would help me out. She had a quarter horse & we would ride the country side all around our properties. I had hoped to do more and learn more with horses but I was young and full of myself! Anyway, I then met someone and started dating and from there I got out of horses. That was about April 1991 when I sold Kallie. Then came along the start of my family in Nov 1992! The rest of our story will be of this last 7 years that I have had Deacon, Whiskey & Rocket (Rocket is Cliff’s horse). Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Here is a vote from Fatima.
Good evening and thank you so much for voting me HOTD. School began 3 hours late because of the icy weather we had last night, so we peeked into HorseChannel before leaving for school. We were surprised to see me in the spotlight this morning. I am happy in my new home. I just wish that Fancy would not be so bossy. Sometimes she is nice though. We get treats and attention here. It has been a long time since I had a lot of grain. I love my grain. I even try to eat with Fancy in her bowl. She let me get a morsel and then she chases me away. Trigger is hardly ever mean. But he takes Fancy's side when things get touchy.
Well, I just wanted to leave a blog to say thank you for all the kind blogs and friendship. HorseChannel sure is a great place!
Have a great night

Thank you all!!!! I will never know everything Cisco has been through, and I don't want to know. All I know for sure is his tongue had nearly been severed in half, probably either from a really harsh bit or having his head tied around, and his R eye socket fractured (again, don't wanna know). Steve said he's pretty sure at some point someone attempted to train Cisco to buck, to this day he WILL NOT tolerate a flank cinch. I believe that Cisco was loved and treated well early on, then things just went south for him. I'm also sure he's been through mutiple sales, with his striking looks and proud manner always finding a buyer that's sure he would be the one to "fix" him. I remember Steve telling me at one point that Cisco wasn't only PTSD, but MPD (multiple personality disorder) and probably Bi-polar to boot. One thing everyone has remarked on wherever we go, is how Cisco watches for me. Whenever I am in sight, his eyes follow me. It's an awesome feeling to have that kind of connetion with a horse. Eventually, I think Cisco would have been on one of those one-way trips to Canada or Mexico, instead we plan on continuing our adventures...

THANKS FOR ALL THE VOTES. Rest of our trail ride was uneventful, except for the heat(high 90's) and for one rider who started to get heat stroke. Christy was able to get hold of her husband (cell service iffy there) and he drove out and picked her up, and her horse was also ponied back. We went through some pretty steep ravines and overgrown trails (to shorten the distance, we cut through on a hiking trail). When we got back, I was so glad to get OUT of the saddle. I think Cisco was just as glad to have me out of the saddle! We had been out over 9 hours. I stayed over that Sunday night at the B&B, and Cisco and I got a good night's rest before heading home. I had put in 38 hours in the saddle in 5 days, and Cisco had to have his cinch taken up 2 notches by the end!

We Keep Riding...
REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE SUPPORT, THANKS! We had a great, if slightly late, lunch on the trail. As we were starting back, Christy (owner of the B&B), realized she had misjudged the trail and we were still 3-4 hours out. At this point, 2 people opted out and and left when the lunch truck went back (one horse was ponied, the other ridden back by Trevor's wife). I decided to hang in there. Everyone wanted to trot to get back sooner, and the 2 horses ahead of us hit out in a long trot. Cisco decided to really move out and catch them, and I realized I was too tired to post. When I pulled him up, it was rodeo time! He got in 4-5 bucks (he was REALLY mad), before I was able to yield his hindquarters and settle him down. Trevor commented "I thought you liked to dance!" (Earlier, I had been moving his hindquarters back & forth in a kind of rumba). Replied "Dancing is one thing, jitterbugging is something else".

Today was great! I was so surprised to see Pippin in the spotlight. I didn't realize it had been a year since he last won. For those of you who asked, this is his 9th win. Yes, it's true! We've been on the HC since 2007 and back in the first year HOTD was not limited to once a year. So, we won it 3x in 2007. Cool, huh?

Thanks so much for your congratulations. Pippin is a great little horse and I love him.

I am running Eddie for horse of the month this month and would love if you would stop by daily with a vote for his page. Here's his blog for today. I've posted each of his daily blogs on his page. Stop by and check them out.

I wanted to take both Eddie and Pippin out but it seemed that no one else (human) was coming with me. I didn't really feel up to ponying one from the cart since I do it by driving with one hand and holding the other horse with other. And I felt kind of tired which wasn't a good way to start something like that.

So, I had a brilliant brain wave. Why not drive them together? I've been pondering this for awhile but have never got around to figuring out how it might work.

Today was the day to do something about it and stop my pondering! :) I put half of Pippin's harness on him and his halter. I attached his halter by a lead rope to the front of the right shaft. I attached his harness to the ring on the back of the right shaft.

So far so good. One of my friends finally showed up so she hopped in the cart too.

We started out at a walk. Pippin was terrified. The back rope was a bit tight so after a few steps I halted and jumped out to rearrange him and give him a bit more rope.

Pippin and I have this understanding. If I say "calm" or "it's okay" he believes me. As I loosened the rope I told him that and he calmed down.

After climbing back into the cart I clicked and we went a few more steps. By that time Pippin was no longer afraid but ready to go.

The drive was amazing. The day was sunny but not as hot as it has been. We went about 6 miles and the boys seemed to love each other's close company. Now that I know it works so well I'm going to think up a better way to do it.

I thought I'd use reins for Pippin but it's unnecessary. He was paying very close attention to my every word. When I told Eddie to trot Pippin was already trotting to ensure he'd keep up. When I said "Whoa" Pippin was ready to stop as soon as Eddie had. They are such a cute pair!

I wanted to film a little bit of their first drive as a team but my camera battery was almost dead. I got a few seconds which I uploaded to YouTube.

Here's the link! I hope you enjoying coming along for the ride!

Leaving a vote for you and best wishes for the new week.

Come visit me, Prince, Pippin (Remembering Melian) & Eddie.

How are you doing? I am going to write a pure copy and paste message because I am so far behind with my HC blogs that you wouldn't believe it.

A lot has happened since I last blogged properly on here and I can't promise to be on as much as I would like.

Eddie has settled in really well. He and Pippin are great friends but boys will be boys and because of their giant size difference, 2000lbs vs 200lbs, they cannot be alone in the same field. So, Eddie has a pen within Pippin's huge day pen and they get at each other through the fence.

Eddie is the tall silent type and his previous owner has never heard him make a noise. Well, now that he's here he whinnies if we take Pippin for a walk and leave him behind. He nickers low and sweetly when Pippin is put in the pen near him. They are cute together.

We've had a couple of tough moments, health-wise, with both of them. Eddie had several episodes of choke earlier this year leading up to a major case which almost killed him. The vet actually thought he wouldn't make it and we were discussing the dreaded topic of carcass disposal…

Well, the long and short of it is, he's completely and absolutely healthy and looks the best he's ever looked. He's fit and shiny and has a spring in his step. That is, when he's not sleep walking which he'll do on a hot day like today.

3 weeks ago Pippin had surgery for the removal of 2 large enteroliths from his colon. They weigh about 3lbs and I've kept them as souvenirs. He's on the road to recovery and is also doing super well.

For a couple of months he was rapidly going downhill and we couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Using a portable x-ray the vet discovered the stones. They are so huge that she actually screamed when spotted them on the radiograph. It's a wonder that he was still eating and pooping fine. Not sure how that was even possible.

Anyway, that's what's up here. I will try (really I will!) to write more often.

Leaving a happy mid week vote.

Come visit me, Prince, Pippin (Remembering Melian) & Eddie.

Remember Koko, Song and Hailey? +ZEUSS!! <3
Wow, it's been sooooo long! I am so sorry! But this year was the hardest year for me. If anyone remembers, Koko was always lame. It turned into her being lame for 8 MONTHS STRAIGHT. Unfortunately, she sucked a shoe with artificial hoof attached off in the mud, taking with it too much hoof. She is now a pasture ornament :"( I still love her and she will be my #1 girl FOREVER. And Song? She foals late August! SHe was just started in solitary broodmare turn out today! I can't wait to see this baby! We will have two by then! One of our other mares foaled a month and a week ago, with a lovely baby named Absolute Twinkle, or "Twinkie!" So... about ZEUSS! When Koko came up lame, I started looking for a new horse. I found one! His name is EH Zapped, or Zeuss! He is a 16.3 hh Anglo Arabian (his profile says TB, but they don't have Anglos, even though they are a registered breed!) gelding, and he is 9 years old! We do hunters, equitation, horsemanship and Hunter Pleasure together, and I've owned him since April 2013. He is wonderful and just wants someone to love him! He arrived at the barn on the 11th, as he was stabled in Saratoga, NY for some training before I took him home! He settled in really well and I rode him today! He actually was great, had lots of energy. He is out with Duncan now, and they are already the best of friends. I can't wait for the rest of the summer, he is going to be the best!
Hope this reaches you guys safe and sound! I hope you all are well, and I am so sorry for my disappearance!
Hailey, Koko, Song and ZEUSS!

Come visit me, Song***THANKS FANCY 4 #100***, Absolute Escapade "Koko" Thnx SADIE 4 #900! & EH Zapped "Zeuss" THANKS FOR HOTD <3.

Anyway, the story I wanted to tell yesterday goes with the main photo on Darling’s page. We were with a young rider from the international club on a much smaller horse and the guy was smaller than me! I am 163cm or 5’4”. Darling is 16HH. Well we were in the sea and just as we were getting close to shore an unusually heavy wave hit us. I thought here I go into the drink as I steadied Darling, but he steadied ME! I did not care about falling into the water (soft landing compared to one on the ground, he he! ) I was thinking in a flash, well, how do I get back up on this guy without someone giving me a leg push backup to get the stirrup? Well, he turned on the rein and kept us both from even feeling pushed, no saddle slide as I stayed hard to the right and he just made sure I was in the seat! He sure is a rescue horse that can save humans from their fears and takes charge when the rider is not certain! More to come!
Here is a TUESDAY VOTE for our HC pals with thanks for supporting Darling HOTM! Glad I kept a journal on those days I rode him!

1240 Charlie , silents for the rest, read below:
A Monday vote ! We are without internet & land phone service (since it is through our internet service) since yesterday afternoon. I voted the HOTD in the morning, we were out until 5 PM and with gorgeous weather and swimming and garden work we came in and no service! Actually had to talk to a guy in Morocco since NO ONE works Sundays in France except restaurants,LOL! We hope to get back our service by tonight§ I lost a day of voting, please vote for Darling HOTM! Next story to come when service is back. We are in a MacDonald’s WIFI station so I will vote as much as I can with this C&P info.

1237 CHARLIE, votes for the herd and thanks
for your votes during the HOTM run!
Here it is, Day 5 of the HOTM run ! Before my little story about my events with Darling, I want to CONGRATULATE (again!) Sadie our Queen of HOTM July. Surprises like that are for people and other beings who deserve them.
Well, after meeting up with Valentine the 3 year old elephant, I visited him almost every day for 10 days. Therefore, I kept going over to the Phuket International Riding Club and making appointments to work with Darling since I clicked with him so easily and he with me as well. The second time we rode I went with a young veterinarian who actually rescued Darling from the slaughterhouse and we talked a lot about how the people of Thailand (mostly of Buddhist religion) respect the animals, especially elephants and horses. Of course there are people who live in Thailand from other countries. That was the case with Darling. I will not name the country from where this previous owner came from, but in stead of continuing to find what the trouble was with Darling he just wanted to be rid of him. The vet from the area basically took him and asked the Riding Club as an on site vet if Darling could be of use there. Well, he is just as his name is a TRUE DARLING! That evening we went straight into the ocean and got completely soaked! Darling looked like he was laughing and I believe he WAS! The boots and helmet are supplied by the club so my jeans and Club shirt were wet and I was refreshed! Darling & I then had a 45 minute return to the Horse Club on a cool down walk. More tomorrow!
