How We Met

Dakota was born and raised here. He's been mine since before he finished cooking in his dam's stomach. My great uncle Doodle (R.I.P March 22, 2007) bred my mare back in 2005 after his horse died. His official excuse for breeding Gypsie was to see a foal running around in the pasture again, but no-one was fooled. He bred her for me, his considered daughter, to have the experience of raising and training a foal of my own from birth. He set it all up so that Dakota would be born near my sixteenth birthday. He and I both knew that I wouldn't be getting a car like most sixteen year olds, and since I was so much into horses, my great uncle decided that a foal would be better than a car (and I agreed). He was born five days before my sixteenth birthday and still to this day he's the best birthday present I've ever gotten.
Sadly, my uncle didn't live to see Dakota grow up. He died the day before Dakota turned a year old, but he always said that my boy would never throw me or hurt me on purpose, and he hasn't. I wish that my uncle was here to see Dakota now, he'd be so proud of him, though surprised that he's gotten as big as he is, since we bred to a smaller stud.
I had planned on being there for Dakota's birth, but instead I was in another city staying with cousins when he was born. After recieving the call that he'd been born, I named him sight unseen (I didn't even know if he was a colt or a filly orwhat color he was, I just automatically said his name was Dakota, after a Husky dog that my mother used to own that died young)... I made it home very fast, and Dakota was still slightly wet and very wobbly on his legs when I got home. It was love at first sight, and I still love him as much as ever. I've completely spoiled Dakota worse than any other horse I've ever seen. He's a pst, but he's my pest, and that makes all the dfference..
