And yes, I am still on that natural high from Saturday's events. I can't believe it! Silly me acting like a kid. This morning, my husband told me I need to bring Fancy in the house so I can stop looking out of the window. I was really looking to see if she was still clean. And guess what?!!! Even through a muddy rainy Sunday, Fancy is still clean on both sides this morning!!!! What a fancy girl after all! I dedicate this special occasion of our first show together to Joanna and Pixie Dust.
Fancy spent Friday night in a blanket with hopes she would be more clean than dirty come morning. The back clip had come undone, but that blanket did serve the purpose. Fancy only had one area on the side of her neck that was dirty. Once at the farm, I cleaned her dirty spot and her feet before introducing Fancy to the sandy arena. At first she was a little excited to be in a new place, but soon settled down. We only entered two classes this time. Fancy was fine, except she did not like horses standing behind her. When horses were lined up behind us, Fancy kept trying to spin around to see exactly what they had in mind back there.
We entered class 2 Adult Halter with 6 entries and Fancy placed 3rd!!!! This was the first time I ever won a ribbon with any horse!!! I was so excited. We didn't do so well in Class 3 as we placed 5th out of 5. However, We did leave with 2 ribbons from our first show!!!

Pixie Dust, belonged to our Facebook pal and HorseChannel member, Joanna Wicke. Joanna was loved by all who knew her. She was always positive and uplifting to others. Joanna welcomed Fancy and I to HorseChannel with unbelievable love and daily support. After a disturbing disappearance of Joanna, Sadie's owner, Joyce informed us that Joanna had passed away in her sleep at the tender age of 34 on September 23, 2011. It was only then that her many health conditions were revealed. Even though being confined to her bed for the past 9 years, Joanna never once revealed a single pain to us. What a remarkable YOUNG person to have as a friend.
It was in 1991 that Joanna & her mom purchased Pixie Dust to share with the Bloomfield Hills School Farm. For 7 years Joanna helped her mom create & teach Love-A-Pony, an afterschool & summer class for children.

My little "C" reads his blogs and then he goes to bed with the biggest smile on his little face as he thinks of his Trigger. He saw his page Friday morning before school, and he asked me to tell everyone Happy Valentines and Thanks for HOTD. He is very excited to spend some time with Trigger.
Friday after school we went to visit Trigg. He does not know us as his people right now. My son, C, had to offer him pulled grass so I could catch him. We got him out and groomed him. He sure is dirty for such a small horse. Trigg kept worrying about where King Kong was. C was having the time of his life. All that matters to him, is his new horsey.

Thanks for the congrats on Pippin's 5th HC anniversary! How are you doing? I know it's been over a month since I blogged properly and I'm sorry about that. I hope the new year is going well for you. I wanted to stop by and wish all my friends a happy new year but our year started out very very sadly and I haven't been able to bring myself to spread the harsh news.
Have I mentioned Acorn, our squirrel, to you before? We raised her as a baby. On New Year's Eve she was run over by our neighbours. Our driveway is the right of way to several neighbours. I still miss her. She was such a cutie and so very smart and still quite tame. I'm also angry because one shouldn't be such a careless driver. Especially in the middle of a forest on someone else's private land.
It was just so awful. At 1.5 years old she was in the prime of her life and we were prepared to have her around for at least another 14 years. And her first babies would have been born this spring! We miss her.
And then, as if our year hadn't started out badly enough, we also lost one of our kitties. She was getting close to 17 but still seemed healthy enough to go on for a few more years. She took a sudden turn for the worse and now she is gone. Her name was CC and she has a profile on the Cat Channel, 66957. Acorn is also on the SAC at 188686.
She was really good friends with my special Tiny Girl (dog) who died a couple of years ago. It feels to me like I lost my last living link to her. I like to think of them together again.
I hope your year started out a lot better than mine! Pippin is doing great. I don't know what I'd do if something like that happened to him. I don't even want to think about it. How are you and the horses in your life?
Here's a vote for you and I'll try to be a better blogger. But don't hold your breath!
P.S. I would love for you to see the tribute, Remembering Barbara. It is on YouTube. I haven't had any success getting it on HC yet.

How are you doing? I'm glad you like HC so much. I haven't been on HC much the past month actually. I had just got caught up with my blogs after my biking accident when guess what! I did it again. Only this time it was from Prince.
I went all out this time. On Thursday the 11th of August, I was riding Prince and telling my friend who was riding Eddie that Prince just didn't feel right that evening. He was acting up and I thought I could perhaps slowly work out his kinks.
We went over a couple of jumps and suddenly upon landing the jump his head went down, his hind end went up and he had a major bucking fit. I wasn't prepared and went flying off. (Draught horses may be big but they're no less agile and athletic!) I remember falling but I don't remember landing. The next thing I remember is being surrounded by paramedics and being rushed by ambulance to the ER.
In fact I hear now that the entire Fire department, both ambulances, tons of private cars, and the sheriff were all there. Excitement in a small town?
Anyway, they asked me some really difficult questions. Like what's your name? Your DOB? Any allergies? Not easy questions in the best of circumstances but I did my best. I guess I was knocked out for about 10 minutes till anyone could get any response and then I drifted in and out for a long time afterwards. And vomiting for a couple of days.
It was a horrible experience and even now I still can't think quite straight but it's getting better. The doctor doesn't want me riding for at least a month or two. I guess another blow to my head really could be my last. I've been driving Pippin and I've driven Prince once. I'll drive him again tomorrow.
Pippin is doing great. This time last year he started swelling all over. I sure hope that it doesn't happen again. So far so good.

After Austin and I got back Monday from picking up a bale of hay, I opened the gate so I could drive around back. I saw the road runner running from the back of the corral out into the desert behind our property. He must like horses, too. He likes to stay by the hay as if watching them. He's about a foot tall and has a spikey hairdo. He always has access to water. I keep the dogs' pool filled. Pidgeons and other birds enjoy the pool, too. Why he had to try the water trough is beyond me. Road runners eat snakes, lizards, scorpions, rodents and other birds as well. During the winter months, they live on whatever vegetation they can find. And they are fast. Coyotes use to come up the water tank, about 2 acres from my house, when it leaked for a drink of water. I guess road runners get their name from all the running they do. I've seen them run across the highway. The dogs are in their dog house with the ac on when it's enjoying the back yard. Don't know what he'll do when the weather cools down enough not to run the dog's ac. They'll be out of the doghouse then. But since they don't like to stay in the yard, he should be free to stay.
