My Horse Profile

Thoroughbred from Lakeside, ON

Royal Mes "How can I stop kicking?"

About Me

Active within 1 Day

I am from Lakeside, ON and I've been a Club Horse member for 2 years, 10 months and 2 days

Nicknames: His registered name is ROYAL MES we call him Charlie Bubbles, he blows bubbles in his water pail....

Age: 12 years old

Gender: Gelding

Breed: Thoroughbred

Height: 16.3 hands

Color: dark bay

Type of Riding: english riding, some jumping and just pleasure hack. We started dressage spring 2012, it seems to be more our "thing", Charlie can be a bit lazy and although I wanted to jump, he isn't really into it.

My Horse's Achievements: I am proud of Charlie everyday, but what I love about him most is that he has no idea he is TB....He has a very kind heart and would never think of doing anything goofy when you are on his back, his manners are impeccable. He is the reason that Sterl May is still going strong, he keeps her moving when they are outside and when they are in, he is company for her across the stall door. I don't ride in the winter and when I tack him up in the spring he literally acts like I rode him yesterday, such an easy horse. Love him so much, lucky day for me when I found him. He was HOTD October 24, 2011. He was proud to be HOTM April 2012. He got HOTD for a second time October 25, 2012
Charlie was HOTD for 3rd time October 25, 2013

My Horse's Favorite Treat: carrots, apples, actually anything to eat, his appetite is great, recently found out they both LOVE pears.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: he loves to have his neck and belly scratched, he would stand there as long as you could do it.

Pet Peeves: He hates to get wet, eg. the rain, snow, he will tolerate a bath, but it is not fun!!

My Horse's motto: it's all about me, everybody loves Charlie.

How We Met

About 1 1/2 years after the heartbreak of losing my horse, Sassy Mac (Mackie) due to heart failure, he has a profile page Angel Sassy Mac. I started to look for a new horse with the help of my coach. I looked at probably 25 horses, everything I tried was nice, but nothing really got me excited. Finally my coach told me the problem was I was trying to replace Mackie, and that was never going to happen. She said I had to just pick a horse and fall in love with it after I got it home. I took offence to that remark, I have always believed that when the connection is there, you will know. I was not prepared to "just pick one" so I decided to stop looking for awhile. Two days later my coach called and told me about a horse she wanted me to see. I said NO, she proceded to tell me about him anyway, first, he was only 6, too young, he was a Thoroughbred, I didn't want a Thoroughbred and he was 16.2, he was a bit bigger than I wanted. But she insisted, the horse was fairly close to home, so I agreed to just go and look. I know some of you will understand this, when I walked into his stall and our eyes met. The connection was instant. It was the feeling I had been waiting for. I could not believe it, I forgot that he was big, and a Thoroughbred, I rode him that morning and fell in love. I called our Vet the minute I got home and asked for the pre purchase exam, Charlie was delivered the next week. He is just a very amazing horse. Love at first sight, it does happen!!

Sadie's rough on fly masks. She gets into whatever she can. Another horse would be someone to fight with. Lol. She's expensive enough, too, but worth it. Leaving you all love and a quick vote.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Busy day on the farm. Got the LQ Trailer moved to the load up area and started to pack some stuff for this weeks trip. Lunged Indy and did some showmanship with him. Turned him and Bullseye out and then mowed pastures 1 and 2. Did a few more things and saw some really big dark clouds moving in. Got Indy in, then Bullseye and said let's go Harley dog, hurry up and close the indoor arena doors, we're gonna get thumped on! Just as we were walking up from the barn, it came out of no where! Poured on us, not even a little drizzle or spit first, just womp! Lasted all of about 15 minutes, but strong winds and heavy rains! Then the sun came out again, but it still stayed cool and breezy! Love, Marion and the blondes.

Wow, he's doing a number on the walls, sure enough. I was trying to think of something harmless that would be negative reinforcement every time he kicks, like pie tins that would rattle or something like that. Course, he might then like the "music" he creates and have renewed enthusiasm, at which point Sterly might kill him for driving her crazy.
It was pretty hot yesterday so I didn't ride, but did some groundwork with Allie and Gracie, then trimmed Cinni-Mini's feet. That pony grows a LOT of hoof, fast too. And its such a pain working under her short little body. Anyway, its done for a few weeks.
Hope your Monday is a good one.

I had to stop by the store, after work and buy another fly mask. Sassy Miss Sadie is rough on them. I don't like having to keep her beautiful face covered, but the flies here are bad. Got to keep her pretty eyes protected. Aren't horses some of the most gorgeous creatures? Love and a vote.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Was a hot and humid one today. I know that 86 with a feels like 90 is nothing to some of you, but for us that have winter in the single digits and below zero, it's super hot! LOL! Went over and Paige got her lesson with Marissa, western pleasure, then lot's of new trail course work and then onto some trotting and cantering for her english work. Then I got on and rode her, did some pleasure, trail and horsemanship. By the time little Emma (I was calling her Emily) got on her, Paige was out of gas! We put her youth saddle on Paige, so her legs were in the stirrups and she could kick Paige to get here to jog, Paige said naw I don't think so. So I had to jog on foot next to her to get her going! She was on about 15 minutes, had fun and said thank you. Can I walk her over those trail poles, sure and the mare went right over all them in a beautiful little manor. What a good mare! Love that horse. Got home and my friends that trim Bullseye came over and trimmed him up for me. To hot and too buggie, so gave them hay and they were happy. Love, Marion and the blondes.

Oh, oh, he's really doing a number on that wall. Allie took the words I was going to use, rubber mats do sound like a good idea as well as toys. It IS very hard to break habits. I don't stall, usually, so really have no ideas. I do know there is something called ? kicking chains, but I would hate to go that route and believe they can cause many problems. Cheryl & Cisco

yes rubber mats sound like a good idea. My horses have stalls but the west facing side is not closed in so they go in and out as they please. Feeding time they just go right into their own place/stall like clock work! If I lived in a very cold place like you I would have to have a closed barn...but I'm here in south where it is down right hot!!!

Goodness, rubber mats on the walls do sound like a good idea. Does he have stall toys to play with and distract him? Hope you find a solution that's easy to implement.
Did some groundwork with Allie yesterday morning and rode BJ bareback in the evening. Off to church this morning and hopefully some horse time later. Have a good Sunday.

Good morning, first, I'm sorry if I missed anyone yesterday, HC has been so S L OW. It took forever to do my blogging. Second Cookie came around yesterday and did teeth, yippee, Sterly did not require the power float, she was looking good, he is generally p;eased with her, Charlie did well with his float also, however, my boy has developed a vice and I wonder if anyone has a suggestion....at night in his stall, he stands next to Sterly's half door and he kicks the wall (wood), it is hard to describe, not directly behind, but the wall that he is standing parallel to. I'll get a picture this morning and post it. Dr. Cook is worried, me too, that he will eventually injure his hocks, he does it on both sides, depending on which direction he is facing. HELP. David suggested fastening rubber matting to the wall to absorb the shock. Dr. Cook said, like any vice, it is sometimes very difficult to stop once they have made it a habit. We had a nice ride yesterday, hope to today before the rains come, all week....We voted, Love Donna Lee

So glad about Trevor. Hope the next checkup goes as well. Asked Dr. Trish about Chasteberry, she said University trials showed it did not help. Took the weight tape out and got a baseline on everyone, then will reck them every couple of weeks. Cisco got another really good workout, just too stinkin' hot to ride by the time I got out there. Good news - the vet is also coming out Thurs - Nugget WILL get her feet done one way or another. It's supposed to be relatively cool Thurs so that's good. Will also give 2 grams of bute before he comes out. So glad to be done clipping, I hate getting all sweaty and being covered in horse hair. I do have a bit of "cosmetic" trimming to finish, but basically am done. Cheryl & Cisco

So glad to hear the good news from Trevor. Thank the Lord!
Kathryn, my niece, and I hauled to a trail ride Thur, the first of the summer. Only meant to do a short ride but it wound up being 3 hrs. Mostly just walking, and I got off and led BJ the last couple of miles due to the heat. But I enjoy walking in the woods almost as much as I like riding in them. We had a lot of fun. Stopped at the gas station on the way home for an iced coffee. Whoo-hoo. Had a lot of fun. Then worked all day yesterday.
Hope you have a great weekend.

Good Morning all, the forecast is for rain, grrrrr, it is suppose to be nice tomorrow. Charlie and I had a nice ride yesterday after work, it was not too hot, Charlie can't stand the flies, he gets so distracted, plus he is so thin skinned, they bite and he is such a baby. I have a bit of an update on Trevor, we are so happy, his Petscan was good, still shows lots of inflammation in neck and throat area, but they think that is residual from all the radiation, the lymph nodes are clear, that is good, right? His blood work was excellent and altho we understand that the tumor is still there, his oncologist says he is right where she wants him to be, next check up 3 months, hallelujah. Have a great weekend, we left a vote, Love Donna Lee

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Well with HC, DC and Small Animal Channel down all morning, I had lots of time for extra work outside. LOL! Got over by Paige and Marissa worked her both western and then changed to english. Paige was really good at both today. So Marissa said lets quite on that note and you give her a nice bath to cool off. Just finished with her bath and she's in her stall on the wall eating her afternoon alfalfa lunch snack and little Emily comes with her saddle. OOPS, didn't think you were coming, it's late now. And she really wouldn't be ready to show her anyhow tomorrow, so it's just as well. But we set a time for 12 noon on Sunday for her to have a lesson on Paige. She was happy with that. I got home and turned Indy and Bullseye out, they of course loved that. I'm going over to watch some of the show after I go to Marissa's and lunge Paige and practice my showmanship work. Then go watch some of her other students show, then off to a BBQ for little while. Busy Saturday for me. Love, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Beautiful day out today! Storms last night were all around us, but never did hit us! But it moved that hot humid weather out and it's cool with a really nice cool breeze! Went over to Paige's and she was really great today! I didn't get to ride today, it was all about the boss riding and really moving those hips over. Marissa worked on her western riding lead changes, awesome! Then she asked if little Emily could ride Paige. There's an open show on Saturday and Emily's horse had surgery 4 weeks ago and is still out of commission. So she rode Paige and did very well, tomorrow we'll put her saddle on Paige and see how well she can really make her walk and jog. Did a video, very cute, but of course HC is still out of order on posting videos!!!! Got home and put the other two boys out for the afternoon, they loved their grass time again and with no bugs really! Love, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. What a hot humid one today! Hit 90 degrees with heat index of 97, and of course that was when we were working Paige out! Outside none the less, but there was a really nice breeze so it didn't feel as bad as it was! But the three of us worked up a lather! Paige, Marissa and then me on my horsemanship lesson and then a showmanship lesson, running or should I say jogging in that hot sand wasn't fun for me! I can sympathize with how poor Paige was feeling. Only she got a nice cool shower right away! Got home and just hayed Indy and Bullseye, cause the green heads were out in force. They really prefer the barn with all the nice big fans going. Right now waiting on a storm that's all around us, it's even saying we are getting rain, but it's so high up and the heat is so hot, it's evaporating before ground level! Love, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Today was the triple H day, hazy, hot and very humid! But I got over to work with Paige at our trainers. She had just finished lungeing her when I got there and Paige was wet all ready. Then Marissa rode her and gave her a good tune up! She was not wanting to get off her right leg and just leaning on Marissa's spur, that stopped after a little talk! LOL! Then I got to ride the cool down period. But then Paige was out of gas and looking to just walk and hang her head. LOL! Got home really late and it was very buggie, so the boys stayed in with more hay and in front of double fans. They were happy! Love, Marion and the blondes.

About a third done. Know anyone that buys horsehair? I clipped for an hour and a quarter today, then just had to stop. 99 yesterday and today, add 6 degrees in for heat index and it's been pretty miserable. Horrible humidity, no breeze. Hoping it's a bit nicer tomorrow when the vet comes out, at least we're supposed to have a breeze. To hot when I get done with her to even think about riding Cisco.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Well Paige left this morning for Marissa's. Marissa got here around 10:30 and we got her loaded up. Took about a few tries, she didn't want to leave Indy! But she's all settled in and the farrier was there and going to do her new shoes all around later on. I had to leave after I unloaded her tack and feed. Hung out for a short time, but had to hit the road. Had the chiropractor, my backs been a little achy. It was like a box of rice krispies when he started on me! Snap, Crackle and Pop! Feel so much better now. Got home and Indy was talking up a storm, wanted his honey. Turned him and Bullseye out for pasture time, then he was happy. Gonna be lonely in the barn without her cute little face looking at me when I walk in. Maybe I'll put Indy in her stall, then he can stare at me when I walk in! LOL! Love, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Well what a night last night! Darn Butt Head neighbor across the street decided to shoot off aerial fireworks at 9:30. Mind you, only about 400 feet from my barn, kids weren't happy and neither was I! It was one right after the other with a big ending performance! When I cool down, should be in a week or so, I'll have a talk with them about that, it's illegal to do fireworks in our State! Then this morning I was to take Paige to our trainer Marissa for a tune up. No one to help load her in my smaller goose neck straight load. So have to do it tomorrow, Marissa will come up and close the butt bar while I get her head tied up front. But I did get a ride in at home, she was really good. Then they all got out for a couple of hours today, fly sheets on and bug juice and they enjoyed the sunshine and grass. Love, Marion and the blondes.

what's this website that you downloaded mp3 lessons off of? I don't do lessons regularly either, but Teton and I work on our dressage ourselves. He is not a dressage man, that's for sure! he doesn't seem to have that long of an attention span! I do take tips, so i'd love to get those mp3s.

The rest of the day was off and on drizzle. That is not what the the weatherman said. David made the letters out of feed tub lids and screwed them on to stakes, I'll tell him you all think it looks good. Charlie and I started dressage a couple of summers ago, remember I didn't ride last summer due to my arm, hope we have a good season this year.
