My Horse Profile

Thoroughbred from Lakeside, ON

Royal Mes

About Me

Active within 1 Day

I am from Lakeside, ON and I've been a Club Horse member for 2 years, 9 months and 15 days

Nicknames: His registered name is ROYAL MES we call him Charlie Bubbles, he blows bubbles in his water pail....

Age: 12 years old

Gender: Gelding

Breed: Thoroughbred

Height: 16.3 hands

Color: dark bay

Type of Riding: english riding, some jumping and just pleasure hack. We started dressage spring 2012, it seems to be more our "thing", Charlie can be a bit lazy and although I wanted to jump, he isn't really into it.

My Horse's Achievements: I am proud of Charlie everyday, but what I love about him most is that he has no idea he is TB....He has a very kind heart and would never think of doing anything goofy when you are on his back, his manners are impeccable. He is the reason that Sterl May is still going strong, he keeps her moving when they are outside and when they are in, he is company for her across the stall door. I don't ride in the winter and when I tack him up in the spring he literally acts like I rode him yesterday, such an easy horse. Love him so much, lucky day for me when I found him. He was HOTD October 24, 2011. He was proud to be HOTM April 2012. He got HOTD for a second time October 25, 2012
Charlie was HOTD for 3rd time October 25, 2013

My Horse's Favorite Treat: carrots, apples, actually anything to eat, his appetite is great, recently found out they both LOVE pears.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: he loves to have his neck and belly scratched, he would stand there as long as you could do it.

Pet Peeves: He hates to get wet, eg. the rain, snow, he will tolerate a bath, but it is not fun!!

My Horse's motto: it's all about me, everybody loves Charlie.

How We Met

About 1 1/2 years after the heartbreak of losing my horse, Sassy Mac (Mackie) due to heart failure, he has a profile page Angel Sassy Mac. I started to look for a new horse with the help of my coach. I looked at probably 25 horses, everything I tried was nice, but nothing really got me excited. Finally my coach told me the problem was I was trying to replace Mackie, and that was never going to happen. She said I had to just pick a horse and fall in love with it after I got it home. I took offence to that remark, I have always believed that when the connection is there, you will know. I was not prepared to "just pick one" so I decided to stop looking for awhile. Two days later my coach called and told me about a horse she wanted me to see. I said NO, she proceded to tell me about him anyway, first, he was only 6, too young, he was a Thoroughbred, I didn't want a Thoroughbred and he was 16.2, he was a bit bigger than I wanted. But she insisted, the horse was fairly close to home, so I agreed to just go and look. I know some of you will understand this, when I walked into his stall and our eyes met. The connection was instant. It was the feeling I had been waiting for. I could not believe it, I forgot that he was big, and a Thoroughbred, I rode him that morning and fell in love. I called our Vet the minute I got home and asked for the pre purchase exam, Charlie was delivered the next week. He is just a very amazing horse. Love at first sight, it does happen!!

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Today was sunny and hot, got humid out too! But it was a different kind of lovely day for me! I got to visit with my sister! I haven't seen her in a year and she's up from NC. We got together with two other gals from the old stables we all rode at back in the early 70's. It was great! Tami and Sandy aren't really riding anymore. But sis, Kathy is still into Eventing and driving their pony around too. Had a great time! Got home with enough time left to turn the kids out for some pasture. Paige's fly sheet came and it fits her good! Forgot to take a picture, darn! Tomorrow. Love, Marion and the blondes.

~ Dreams do come true... ~
One year ago, today, I was up early, a smile on my face I couldn't stop even if I wanted too. I peered down the drive way hours before the man would come. I walked the fence line, even though I'd done it a dozen times before. I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first horse. From five yrs. old I'd been a horse-crazy girl; and now I'd have a horse! It seemed like ages, but finally the man came. We owned a horse! We spent all day outside grooming, rubbing and loving our horse. That evening I sat outside as the sun went down, watching our horse graze in our front pasture. "Thank-You Lord. You've given me my dream!" I whispered into the fading sunlight. We got another horse not long after that, which made it all complete.
Today, one year later, we're spending the day together with our girls. We're going to have a wonderful time I know!
So today, I'll always remember that the Lord hears us, even a girl's wish for a horse.
Dreams to come true!

Hi Ya!
Riding this weekend? If so have a wonderful time and be safe.

We had another family look at Trigger yesterday. Then one adult person says, 'well he is not big enough for me' Then I ask "I thought he was for your children?" They tell me the children are in their family and will visit. So we still have Trigger. LOL.
I did sell my cart yesterday. The man used it yesterday evening. And he was very happy with it!

Have a very blessed weekend!

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Another sunny day to start and we got lucky last night and never got the storms! Got to ride inside again today, fans going and just lovely! Worked on Horsemanship patterns and doing both a one stride simple change and also threw in a couple of flying changes for the heck of it. She's really having fun, I think this mare loves all the different stuff we're putting her into! Then they all got time out in the pastures. Of course after I bring them in, Paige's new Fly Sheet came from Smart Pac! Have to try it on her, returnable if not and they pay the freight! Then get her the right size. Hand mowed behind the indoor and dragged the outdoor again and did the indoor too! Seems dragging the indoor is also helping to dry it out, it's just about 100% useable now. Love, Marion and the blondes.

Glad the weather is cooperating. Spa day today. The boy is SO clean (and I am so filthy) - 2 kinds of shampoo (reg plus Extreme White on the you know what), mane & tail conditioner, then mane & tail combed out, bridle path trimmed. Trailer is clean, almost everything loaded. Will have a short ride tomorrow. If he dares find any mud to roll in, will "beat him like a stepchild". Cheryl & Cisco

Fancy and Fatima seem to be friends now. I do notice Fancy & Trigger stay together more. Fatima spends more time eating hay.

Yes, Trigger is for sale because Cowboy wants to ride dirt bikes and 4 wheelers now. I think Trigger would be happy with another child to love him. I have a funny feeling, I might not let Trigger go. (Can't seem to find just the right home for him)
That is a photo of my horse cart on Fancy's page. It has been in the shed since I got it. I have never used it, so I decided to sell it. Seeing it every day, NOW, on the car porch makes me want to test it out.
Last question was regarding me not being able to ride yet. I seem to have acquired a concussion June 7. I am not supposed to ride or do anything that could result in another bump to my head until at least 5 days being symptom free. Not there yet ")

You probably made the right decision. I can't imagine watching my horse limp around and abscess, bruise, etc. I've heard of people who can transition a horse from shoes to barefoot comfortably (they say) with hoof boots and/or that spongey glue stuff, but I don't know of anyone, personally, who offers those services. I think they are few and far between. Glad to hear you've got their diet pegged.
Hope you're having a great vacation. Are you going anywhere or just hanging out at home? Take care.

Scruffy always barks at Sadie, wanting her to play, when I let her out of her corral. Sadie bolted out of her corral, Wednesday, head down and chased him away. So funny. Poor dog. He ran to his doghouse. She got to enjoy freedom until she got into the shed, again, and pulled things out, making a mess. Trying to figure out how to make the shed Sadie proof. It's a rubbermaid and she pulls the doors off. Too smart. Lol. Love and a vote.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Another storm moved through again last night, power out and dish TV this time. Very heavy rain for only 30 minutes, but it was like 1 inch in the rain gauge. Indoor was fine this morning. Got my first ride in on Paige in almost a week thanks to the weather and flooding of my indoor and her pulling a shoe. She was awesome! Had so much lift and suspension to her lope, got that hock deep up under her, the rest did her good I think! And it sure was nice in there with no bug to bite us and the fans going full blast to keep it cool! They got out this afternoon, tons of fly spray on them. Just ordered a fly sheet for Paige, now she'll have her own. Indy has one all ready. And guess what, another storm coming across for tonight! Three nights in a row! UGH! That was very interesting. I imagine after hearing that you are more comfortable with having him shod. I had a horse like that a long time ago, the Appy gelding I did competitive trail riding on. His feet were HORRIBLE. He absolutely couldn't do without shoes. Luckily, the horses I have now are fine barefoot. Another great training session today - introduced the squirt gun. He wasn't happy about it from the ground, but was fine when I picked it up mounted and squirted to both sides. Cheryl & Cisco

shoe's it is by george! I think every horse should be evaluated and determine if barefoot is good or if they should have shoes. No one certain way is best for all. I have 2 that are barefoot and 1 that always has to have shoe's during riding season. I feel proud of you and your decision!!!!

Trigger is still with us. I have had lots of interest in him. I had one family come to look at him but I discovered they wanted him for a lady to ride. I hope someone will want him for a child to ride. I am kind of partial to him going to a home with a child.

Hope you had an awesome 4th celebration.

Good Morning, well the visit from the nutritionist was interesting to say the least...the good news is, I'm doing everything right as far as feed for Charlie. The bad news is, in order to go barefoot, here is what Marc does with his TB's, and before I try to explain this, keep in mind that this is a L O N G process, it won't happy overnight. He basically forces the hoof to become strong by OVER stimulation and corrective trimming, meaning, he lets them chip, he let's them bruise and even abscess if necessary, the over stimulation comes from the rigorous training, the pounding, the running, not just lolly gagging around the pasture. I know it sounds like cruel and unusual punishment, but it works for his racehorses. People at the track are always asking him "what is your secret? how can your horses run barefoot?" He said this is not for everyone, you must be committed to the work, and be prepared for the set backs, but when you get there you have a STRONG hoof. After a lot of thought, I realize, this is not for Charlie, he is not a working racehorse anymore, he is my pal, and it will be shoes for him. Have a great day, we left votes, Love Donna Lee

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. It's another HHH day for us, heat index hit 96 today and real temp was 90! Got out early to lunge Paige, had to drag the outdoor, we got a heck of a storm last night at 10 pm. Major lightning and thunder with about 20 minutes of rain only, but the lightning lasted for an hour or more! Right over head. Anyhow, got her foot duck taped and lunged her, only the green heads and now giant horse flies were crazy from the humidity today. Mike to here around 2 pm and put her shoe back on. I left them in, bugs to bad, so everyone got a hay lunch today in front of their fans. They like their fans for sure! Indoor is really drying out nice, dragged that again and hopefully will be able to ride about 70% of it tomorrow morning. No bugs, no sun and cool fans overhead! Who's spoiled! LOL! Have another major thunder and lightning storm moving in on us, should be here about 9 pm this time. It just don't stop! Batten down the hatches! LOL! Love, Marion and the blondes.

It's so hot here I can both ride and "cook" (me)
It's beginning to look (and feel) a lot like summer.
Today we worked on neck reining around some of the obstacles, he did well with everything except the forehand turn in the box, will use 2 hands for that. Worked the gate a couple of times, figure 8 backups, would have done the Spanish pole but Nugget knocked it down. We also did cavaletti, and instead of dragging the board, I asked him to back. He did a few steps, could feel him getting really nervous with board coming towards him, so rubbed & told him what a good boy he is, and dropped the rope. Tomorrow: will introduce the squirt gun and biggest teddy. Cheryl & Cisco

Got them lunged earlier today, but those darn green heads were out in force. Dragged the indoor again, possible tomorrow I'll be able to ride about 3/4 of it. Friend of my Farrier coming tomorrow to fix Paige's flat tire, won't ride till that shoe is back on. Right now duct taping it and just lungeing and showmanship work. Today they got turnout time for about an hour, they wanted away from the bugs and in front of their fans. Spoiled show horses! LOL! Got a hay delivery just a little while ago, second cut nice grass mixed hay. Got in 62 bales, love when they deliver and stack for me. It's so worth paying 50 cents more a bale, cheaper than my chiropractic adjustment and a asthma attack! LOL! Love, Marion and the blondes.
