Thoroughbred from Lakeside, ON

Royal Mes

About Me

Active within 1 Day

I am from Lakeside, ON and I've been a Club Horse member for 3 years, 1 month and 28 days

Nicknames: His registered name is ROYAL MES we call him Charlie Bubbles, he blows bubbles in his water pail....

Age: 12 years old

Gender: Gelding

Breed: Thoroughbred

Height: 16.3 hands

Color: dark bay

Type of Riding: english riding, some jumping and just pleasure hack. We started dressage spring 2012, it seems to be more our "thing", Charlie can be a bit lazy and although I wanted to jump, he isn't really into it.

My Horse's Achievements: I am proud of Charlie everyday, but what I love about him most is that he has no idea he is TB....He has a very kind heart and would never think of doing anything goofy when you are on his back, his manners are impeccable. He is the reason that Sterl May is still going strong, he keeps her moving when they are outside and when they are in, he is company for her across the stall door. I don't ride in the winter and when I tack him up in the spring he literally acts like I rode him yesterday, such an easy horse. Love him so much, lucky day for me when I found him. He was HOTD October 24, 2011. He was proud to be HOTM April 2012. He got HOTD for a second time October 25, 2012
Charlie was HOTD for 3rd time October 25, 2013
Charlie was HOTD for 4th time October 25, 2014

My Horse's Favorite Treat: carrots, apples, actually anything to eat, his appetite is great, recently found out they both LOVE pears.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: he loves to have his neck and belly scratched, he would stand there as long as you could do it.

Pet Peeves: He hates to get wet, eg. the rain, snow, he will tolerate a bath, but it is not fun!!

My Horse's motto: it's all about me, everybody loves Charlie.

How We Met

About 1 1/2 years after the heartbreak of losing my horse, Sassy Mac (Mackie) due to heart failure, he has a profile page Angel Sassy Mac. I started to look for a new horse with the help of my coach. I looked at probably 25 horses, everything I tried was nice, but nothing really got me excited. Finally my coach told me the problem was I was trying to replace Mackie, and that was never going to happen. She said I had to just pick a horse and fall in love with it after I got it home. I took offence to that remark, I have always believed that when the connection is there, you will know. I was not prepared to "just pick one" so I decided to stop looking for awhile. Two days later my coach called and told me about a horse she wanted me to see. I said NO, she proceded to tell me about him anyway, first, he was only 6, too young, he was a Thoroughbred, I didn't want a Thoroughbred and he was 16.2, he was a bit bigger than I wanted. But she insisted, the horse was fairly close to home, so I agreed to just go and look. I know some of you will understand this, when I walked into his stall and our eyes met. The connection was instant. It was the feeling I had been waiting for. I could not believe it, I forgot that he was big, and a Thoroughbred, I rode him that morning and fell in love. I called our Vet the minute I got home and asked for the pre purchase exam, Charlie was delivered the next week. He is just a very amazing horse. Love at first sight, it does happen!!

Hi Charlie, Happy Thanksgiving Day vote for ya. Well so I spent about 3 hours just moving a foot of snow off the driveway, barn area and indoor walkway, and out to the manure pile. Don't forget doing the back stairs by shovel for Harley dog. Then lunged Paige and Indy inside. By then it was time to shower and go to Eileen's for T-Day dinner. But, she's been without electric since last night, thank you snow storm, and had to move the cooking and eating to Uncle John's house. Ate way too much, but after working so hard today, I needed the fuel to stay awake! LOL! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Love, Marion and the blondes.

Hoping you find some answers. Don't know if it's available in Ca, but I feed ADM's PrimeGlo, it's expensive, but has pre and pro-biotics that are supposed to help with ulcer prevention.

HI Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Well, Let it Snow, let is snow, let it snow! And it did and still is! About 10 inches or more, plowed the driveway once all ready today. Had about 6 or 7 at that time and it was that nice wet heavy stuff. Lost electric once for about an hour, generator did it's job! Thank goodness! But now they are talking freezing rain over night, funny how it was snow at 34 degrees and it's going down to 25 and will be freezing rain! Go figure. So anyhow, went down the barn and brushed them and gave them hay and warm water at 2 pm today. Then I plowed snow with the tractor, got wet, but oh well, it had to be done. Happy Thanksgiving to All. Love, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Charlie
Busy days and short nights! Family here from Florida. Got the turkey thawed, and the Madeira wine ready for basting! Yummy! My husband was going to deep fry but he's going hunting while I cook! I will send him to Rural King to get more horse mats ($20.00 after rebate!) They're useful in many ways.

My cousins cocker spaniel came for a visit so my girls were playing with her. Shawna told the dog, Bella, to go get the ponies. Before I said Bub will stomp her, she ran out into the pasture and yes, Bub did a smacking stomp! The dog yelped, I snickered, and Shawna felt bad! Bella is okay, scared her. He always did that with the two pugs we had so I knew he wasn't out to do real harm, just a get out of here kind of thing! We had a pit bull that barked at him and he left a nice horseshoe print around his eye! The dog never barked at him again! Needless to say, we don't have dogs anymore-we got a Bub.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. God bless you and your family.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. Well it was a busy day again today! Took the trailer over to Bill, he had me drop it and leave it there. Took a quick look and from what he saw, about 2000 to 2500 to fix, but he wanted to bring it inside and lift it up and really check out the middle to the front better. He said it's worth fixing it, lots of life in the rest of the trailer. So we'll see! Got home and painted the flower boxes that we built. Plus I stopped at a dollar store and got like 6 nice fake flower pieces, wish they had 6 more, then I'd be set. Got the kids lunged today, was running out of time and energy, more so energy. Washed Paige's tail in bucket of hot water, since it was 53 degrees out and my barn was at 65 inside. By then it was late afternoon and lunch time for me. Well tomorrow could be very interesting, snow starting around 3 am and going till 6 am on Thursday, so here comes the 6 to 10 inches they are talking about. Got a full 4 gallons of gas for the snow blower, we're ready. Tractor is half a tank of diesel, so it's ready too! Love, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya. I guess we were all in the same boat yesterday, HC, DC and SAC were all down from the afternoon till this morning! Well we are in a record breaking temp of 68 degrees today. But don't get used to is, cause on Wed into Thurs, could be between 6 to 10 inches of SNOW! Yep right into Thanksgiving! At any rate, had a great ride on both Sun and Mon on Paige. Today I moved the snow blower to the front of the garage and got it ready for work! Also Kevin and I built two 6 foot long flower boxes to use in my trail course set-ups. Tomorrow if the hay barn is warm enough, I'll paint them. Then just have to get the fake flowers for them. Also taking the Trail_Et trailer to have Bill look at it and see if they can fix it up for me. Say a prayer it can be fixed and not cost me an arm and a leg! LOL! Love, Marion and the blondes.

HI Charlie, here's a vote for ya buddy. Personally, I would go with looking into the Neigh Lox and putting him on it and seeing how it goes. Yes a scoping is the true method of checking, but like you said, Dr. C is good and you really know Charlie. I would just make sure that he gets as much fiber as possible. Both high fiber grain, and lot's of hay, and yes, alfalfa hay at least on flake a day. You can do this, you know him the best. AS for the water, yes the heated buckets are great. I also have a long tube like heater that I make an extra 5 gallon bucket and pour that in their regular water bucket with the hose water. Each horse has two water buckets, except Bullseye, he only needs one and he even gets the hot water mixed in his. You can do this! Love, Marion and the blondes.

Sorry the nutritionist wasn't much help. Sounds like you're doing everything right. I think the oil is a good idea, can't hurt and may help things move along. Molasses in the water is another good idea, I think I remember you saying you keep their water warm? Only thing else I can think of is, don't know how often you feed, but maybe more frequent feeding would help? Just a thought, and I don't know if in your situation it's doable.

a woman near us who raises TWHs, many of whom are black and get dehydrated easily, adds loose salt with no iodine to her horses' feed during season changes and when it is very hot. ive done that too after having a few colic episodes related to seasons, and have had good luck with it. in your case, i would definately check with dr C about the safety of that and how much.

I'M FRUSTRATED, GRRR
I should have the blood work back today, as far as the nutritionist. She is reluctant to make a change in feed for and ulcer he "may" or "may not" have. She can't get her head around an impaction colic, to her that means lack of moisture, so #1 should be let's get him drinking more water...Charlie is a good drinker. She says the only way to know for sure if he has an ulcer is to scope, I said Dr. C is treating on clinical signs, he knows this horse. She said he has adequate fat and fibre with his present ration, keep up with the alfalfa hay and add corn or vegetable oil to his feed. Not much help there....we lft a vote, Love Donna Lee

Hi Charlie, here's a vote for ya buddy. Another cold and very windy one. Today was take the new truck on an adventure to Home Depot. First time it got to be a work truck! Carried it's first load of materiel in the bed. I picked up 3 insulation panels for the three dutch doors on the front of the horse barn. One sheet of plywood to go over the top of Indy's door, don't want him eating the insulated board. And several bags of ice melt in prep for the winter. Steve across the street helped me get the big stuff to the barn and hopefully tomorrow he'll help me cut everything to size and place in the door frames. Kids got hay for lunch and fresh water, they were happy. Tomorrow it could go above 35 degrees in the afternoon, so I'll ride them then if we are done with the project, otherwise at least lunge them again. Love, Marion and the blondes.
