How We Met
This is my best friend's little brother's pony.They bought him last year for Cole to learn how to ride,they make the perfect riding pair.Melvin is so willing to do what Cole asks and listens so well and does things just the way Cole can handle them comfortably. Melvin unexpectedly died on January 8.He will be missed.He died of and exploded gut (disgusting image,I know) from a persimmon seed in his gut.This is a reminder that a harmeless looking fruit is poisonous to horses and ponies,and ponies have a smaller stomach,so they are less likely to withstand the consumption of one.It may sound silly,but it is true,and this should be a sobering occurence to open people's eyes to the risk of persimmons,howe- ver common they may be.I myself have persimmon trees in my pasture,and will be informing my dad to try and cut down as many as possible..

Thank you everybody for stopping by my new horses page yesterday and making his day so special. He got plenty of treats and lots of lovin'! I am pretty sure we are going to name him Cherokee although I do think Java is a cute name. It is warm and sunny today so Ethan and I took the horses for a ride down the gravel road. I am not completely comfortable with him yet so we only went for about half a mile. We loped on the parts of the road that weren't to sloppy, so much fun! Java/Cherokee behaved really good, just very alert and looking around to check everything out. I also lunged Sierra for a while, she was pretty low key today. Tommorow it is supposed to sleet and rain I won't be able to do much with the horses then. Hope your weekend is great! Some of you may already know this but to those of you who don't, I got a new horse a couple days ago! I had been looking online for a while when I saw his ad on craigslist. My dad took me to see him last Saturday, I got to ride him for a while and he was great so we said we would come back Monday to pick him up. He is a really sweet boy, loves to have his head scratched and follow me around. The people I got him from had 10 other horses and he was at the bottom of the "pecking order" so he is pretty skinny but he has been eating all the hay I give him (which is quite a bit) so hopefully he will start putting on some weight. Dakota is happy to have a new pal and now Ethan and I can ride together again. Today we took them for a ride down the gravel road, he is pretty spunky and likes to look at everything but didn't seem to be spooked by anything. His name right now is Java but we are probably going too change it. My mom and sis have been thinking of names and they like Mocha, Cherokee, Montana and Apache but we still havn't decided yet. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Hi! The reason Shadowfax won HOTM is because he is not a fake. Fakes are horse profiles where the person says that they own the horse when really they don't. However if they say that it is just a dreamhorse profile or that it really isn't their horse than they are not a fake. The person that put up Shadowfax's profile said that he is her favorite fictional horse. I hope this helped! I had another great ride on Scout today, he is such a nice relaxing horse to ride. I never have to worry about him spooking at anything, he is virtually bombproof. Once I was done riding him I went to my aunts place to work with Misty and Sierra. I saddled Sierra again and had a great lunging session with her. Once I was done lunging her I let her loose to run around the pasture with the saddle on and she didn't do any bucking, she is really getting used to the saddle. Once I was done with Sierra I rode Misty. She wasn't listening to me and kept on rearing every time I wouldn't let her go where she wanted to. I usually ride her with my newer, more comfortable saddle but today I rode her with my old saddle, so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it or if she just wasn't having a good day because that kind of behavior is very out of the ordinary for her, she is usually a very well behaved horse. We got a nice break from the cold today, it got up almost 40 degrees! I hope it stays that way for a while so we can get rid of some of this snow!

Yesterday I went over to my aunts place and rode Misty for a while. When I got back Ethan and I took Dakota and Scout for a ride down the gravel road that goes past our place. Scout acted like he had been there a million times already when really this was just the 3rd ride he has had since last year and the first time he has ever been down the road. His lope is incredibly smooth, I feel like I could lope him for hours! Unfortunately though I ussually only lope him for a little while at a time because he's not used to doing very much work and also because he is so old. So far about the only thing he isn't good at is being tied up, he goes nuts when he has to be away from Dakota for 2 seconds! Dont know what he's going to do if I decide to take Dakota on a ride without him.

Guess what, I got the horse! His name is Scout and I would really appreciate it if you could stop by his profile. So far he has been awesome, he didn't get at all spooky about being in a new place when we brought him home yesterday. When we went to get him I asked if I could ride him before I decided if I wanted to get him. His owner got out her saddle but couldn't find the cinch, so she just got on bareback. She said he hadn't been ridden for a year but he did great! After a few minutes she got of and said If I'm 72 years old and can ride him then so can you! So I hopped on and he did just fine!.He stopped turned and backed up without me hardly moving the reins. He was such a sweet boy that I decided I wanted him! He got pretty excited when we loaded him in the trailer but once we got to our place he calmed down. When we pulled in our driveway Dakota's head came up and he looked like he knew something was going on. He got very excited when I led Scout out of the trailer but Scout didn't seem to mind him too much. Right now I have Scout loose in the pasture and Dakota locked in a seperate part of it. Hopefully today I can let them loose together. He is such a sweet wonderful horse and I'm so glad I got him. His back is swayed really bad, but he is very comfortable to ride. I wont be able to lope him very much because he is so old but he has a nice smooth trot. I will probably be uploading a video of him and Dakota soon.
After all the excitement of getting a new horse, I didn't really feel like riding Misty but I decided to saddle her up anyway, and I am so glad I did! For the last while I had just been riding her in a small fenced in area but yesterday I got her out and went for a good long gallop and we both enjoyed it a lot. I had a hard time getting her to slow down she just wanted to GO! It felt so exhilirating and I'm so glad I decided to ride her.
