The extraordinary environmental conditions of the Arabian Peninsula demanded the evolution of a superior equine athlete of exceptional intelligence and uncommon courage. Strength, fortitude and tenacity of constitution were paramount if any horse were to survive life as a warhorse on the rugged terrain. Swiftness and endurance were vital to the success of raids, and only those Arabians with the best combination of these nearly polar attributes were fortunate enough to escape the dangers of battle and earn the respect of their masters. The story is told of the great loyalty these horses would exhibit to their masters. They would be trained as young two-year-olds to respond to a bell, and then they would be left in the desert heat with no water until they became very thirsty. They would then be released near a body of water and right before the horses would reach the water the owner would ring the bell. The horses that would respond and come even in adversity would be chosen as the best and later would be bred to pass on their great loyalty to their offspring. Vitality of spirit and courage were also essential to success in battle; this was to be tempered by intelligence and kindness as both a willing mount and as a large domesticated mammal forced to live in close coexistence with the spartan, mobile life of his keeper.

Question of the day: If you had the choice of two free horses, one gorgeous but completely wild, and one of them very ugly, but well trained, wich would you choose?

Thanks for all the support, enjoy your weekend, and don't forget to vote Dakota for your Nov. HOTM!

Fancy and Trigger are galloping by with a evening vote for you friend.

I spent Thursday and Friday with Fancy. She was ready in case I decided to take her to the show. Friday after school Little Cowboy and Trigger practiced for some events . We had fun because Fancy and I had to show them what to do. I think it will be fun when I do get to compete with Fancy. We might not win, because she is not very fast. But she is certainly fun :)
The show was rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday morning. Since this was the last fun show this year, we did attend. Little Cowboy entered quite a few events he had never tried before. Every one had fun watching him try new things. The crowd was in an uproar in laughter. I didn't get the funny stuff on video cause all the funny things happened after I stopped videoing. The bareback class was the funniest. He slid all the way onto Trigger's side and pulled himself back up with a hand full of mane. There were some cute little girls in the bareback too. The smallest one fell off and her sister came to her aide. It was so cute seeing this very small girl help her smaller sister back onto her horse after making sure she was ok of course.
We all had a grand time at this event. Little Cowboy entered 10 events this show and he placed 1st, 3rd, or 4th in all events except one. The only event he did not place in was the egg and spoon race. I guess that is my fault for lettin him practice with an ice cream scoop and a plastic egg. LOL Next time we practice with a plastic spoon and a real egg. LOL! There is quite a difference there.
I guess that is enough about that.

How was your weekend? Hope it was beautiful :)

How are you doing? Wow, it's been a long, long time since I blogged properly on here! This has been the craziest summer ever. I'm always busy and somewhat insane but I think I've taken both to a new level because I've been insanely busy. :)

Without boring you with too many details I'll just say that I've had to take several road trips for work and the past 3 weeks I've been literally working day and night to meet a deadline. But, it's good to keep busy, right? I just miss my nighttime blogging.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Both Prince and Eddie won hotd recently(ish). I was gone when Prince won and in between trips when Eddie won. But it sure was nice to read all the congrats and to see them in the spotlight again.

Pippin is doing is great as are the big boys. I see them once a week to drive and I really like driving a lot. I still wish I could ride but I'm happy that not only do I get to spend time with horses but I get to drive them.

I take Pippin out as much as I can. Not every day like we're used to because I'm so busy but at least several times a week, even if it's just a walk.

Just the other evening I took him out for a cart ride with Melian. He hadn't been out for about a week and was feeling the need to stretch his little legs.

We were going at a nice trot for a mile or so. Once he warmed up properly he wanted to go faster so I set him at a fast canter. That got Melian interested in a race. They love racing each other!

So, she started teasing him by zigzagging back and forth under his nose and he chased her trying to nip at her bony butt.

Suddenly she did a rollback and accidentally rolled back onto her butt. She was SO mad. I think she felt embarrassed and she let out a huge growl. It was plain that she blamed Pippin and she let him know.

That got him going and he took off at an earth shattering gallop. It was the fastest I have ever seen him pull a cart. It felt like it was going to explode into a million tiny parts. Wow, that was fun! He ran like that for over a mile. What a rush!

That had me smiling and he got a nice bounce to his step. I'm sure you agree that there's nothing like a good ride or drive to bring things back into perspective.

Thanks for sticking by me even though I've not been around. I'm getting caught up on my blogs today (I hope) but I'm not sure how often I can blog. Still lots of work to do.

Here's a vote for you and I hope you're having a nice horsey weekend.

PS Thanks to all who voted for Pippin the Amazing Grazers contest. He won first place in the VHS!

PPS I thought that this was cute enough to mention. The other night we were watching Olympic showjumping and Melian saw the horses on the screen. She loves running with the horses and she growled and tried to catch one as he went over the jump. :)

Come visit me, Eddie (In Loving Memory), Prince & Pippin (Gone too soon).

Rick spent some time with the girls Wednesday evening. He and Sadie butted heads, as usual. Both are hard headed. Star just loves him. I was leading her back into the corral. Rick said something to Sadie, and Star stopped and wouldn't move until he came over to her. He walked her into the corral. I think she'd go anywhere with him. I drove by Mark's house, Monday, to check on his horse and mule. Both were standing in the corral. I don't know how a horse can handle the heat. I don't always use the mister. On windy days, the mist blows away. I do try to let them out of the corral as much as possible. I don't like having them confined in the sun. They don't use their shade much. If it rains, they're both under it. I hosed them both down around 7 pm. any earlier may cause them to sunburn. Hugs and a vote.

How are you doing? Is it hot there? It's been pretty warm here. Close to 100 degrees for a few days. And then suddenly down to 40 a couple of nights ago. And now back in the 90s. Crazy mountain weather!

Last month I spent so much time blogging for Shadowfax and the month before that I was blogging for Pixie Dust, that I haven't had much time to blog for Pippin! And he's my very own. Oh well, what he doesn't know…

He is looking SO handsome right now. I finally came to a decision to give him a flax seed oil supplement. His coat is glossy and he looks very healthy. I don't give him any type of grain so I think it's a good idea to add the oil. It's only a very tiny bit but it gives him the omega fatty acids that he wouldn't otherwise be getting. Most grain fed horses would get that automatically.

Talking of Shadowfax, I played around with Photoshop last night and made some photo edits of Pippin and Shadowfax together. I think they turned out pretty cool. I also made one of Pippin running in the surf.

I've been wanting to do that for some time. I want to make some of Eddie too. He's just so handsome it would be worth the trouble. I finally posted a photo of his first place win the rodeo parade. That is a HUGE event in our county. Come and check it out!

Well, as usual, it's getting late here. I hope you're all doing fine. I will try to write more than c/p messages but in the meantime I wanted to make the rounds and visit my friends.

Leaving a vote for you.

I BELIEVE.....If there is nothing new under the sun, our only hope must be above it.

Congrats to Kingston on HOTD!!
**And please go to Gator's page (#236219) and welcome my friend and neighbor Alissa to HC!!**
Saturday: went on a short ride with Andrea and Twist. Then gave Kayla a lesson with the English saddle. She fits it really good and her and Sweet Pea look great together. Then I went over to Sharon and got her to pull Sweet Pea's shoe because the one nail came out.

Sunday: I went with Andrea and Twist again, from 1-4! It was really fun, but I was ready to get home. We went on the local trails, and then my grandparent's woods, which is really great. On the way home, we stopped at the creek to water the horses 'cause it was really hot out.

Sunday evening: We were at our grandparent's house and my little cousin who lives there also, wanted me to train her two minis to do some tricks. Well, I didn't succeed (minis have tough skin :~) but I told her how to. Then I went in their barn, and I was trying to get the one buggy horse to come to me. I sat in front of her stall, just holding out my hand and talking real gently with whatever I could come up with. She wanted to bad to come to me, but she was too scared and distrustful. I think I sat there about 15 mins, and she wouldn't sniff my hand. Then I went to the other 3, and they had to get used to me, then they just leaned against my hand like "oooh, that feels soooo good. Please keep on.....". I love when I can do that.

Today: The first riding lesson just ended and they are just pulling out the drive (I had typed the earlier stuff before they came). It was SOOOO much fun!! I had both of them learn to brush, tack up (well, they couldn't handle the saddle and bridle yet-they just watched me and I explained it). Then I had Kara (11) mount up first and I led her around. They weren't confident enough to be on their own with just the lunge. Then it was Felicia's (9) turn. They both had a ton of fun, and thanked me profusely. I was just so happy that it went good. Sweet Pea was a star. Then I showed them how Sweetie and Flicka do tricks. I gave them an educational game to borrow, a magazine (Young Rider), and two posters to keep. I just can't wait till the next time!!

Hugs & Prayers,
Andrea and the herd

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND! “The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” (unknown)'

Fancy and I enjoyed a fabulous trailride Friday at Uwharrie National Park. We rode for 6 hours 30 minutes! This is Fancy's longest ride yet. She was a real sweetheart during the day. I can only admire her love and strength. (oh and her little beauty too, LOL)

Austin helped me put the misting system up. He went out to the corral first, carrying the hammer, nails and the misting system. Sadie had to check out everything he had. she knocked the box of nails off the corral panel. Kept Austin busy. He said she was like a kid, getting into everything. I let her and Star out of the corral, so we could work in peace. We got it up, and it works great. Just not good in the wind. Will be great on those hot, windless days. Since Sadie doesn't like getting her face wet, she didn't stay in the sprinkler too long. Just off and on. I missed out on some good pictures. I took the camera out too late. Or maybe she knew I wanted pictures of her playing in the sprinkler? Anyway, I posted, what I was able to take, on the bottom of Sadie's page. Star loved it, too. I gave them lots of carrots and Star even ate a popsicle. Sadie didn't like it. Hugs and a vote.
