My Horse Profile

Standardbred from Branford, CT

Lady Liberty

About Me

Active within 803 Days

I am from Branford, CT and I've been a Club Horse member for 2 years, 7 months and 28 days

Nicknames: Liberty, Libby and Lib-lib

Age: 4 years old

Gender: Mare

Breed: Standardbred

Height: Currently 14.3 hh and still growing!

Color: Chestnut

Type of Riding: Still learning... trail riding, western, bareback, eventually move on to jumping. I have only been on her a few times but we are currently practicing walking though the woods and just being a simple pleasure riding horse.

My Horse's Achievements: Surviving the feedlot at Camelot Auction House in March 2011 and amazing progress under saddle

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Candy canes are her absolute favorite but she also loves any kind of peppermint, along with apples, carrots, pop tarts, apple flavored rounders and other horse treats.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Libby loves to have her withers and chest scratched! She will stretch her head down low and wiggle her lips in the dirt or stand up tall with her head high if you scratch her chest. Another favorite is calm walks in the woods, she especially likes that I'm walking next to her to show her its all right and the scary brush on the side of the trail is not going to eat her and neither is the puddle going to suck her down to her death. She always makes me walk first past the scary objects then she walks calmly through. Liberty also loves to race in the pasture, I will start to walk away and she will follow me, then I'll pick up the pace and we will end up racing up and down the fence line. She isn't afraid of tarps and loves to chase it when I drag it through the pasture. She also loves walking on new trails in the woods. We are venturing farther and farther from the barn and every new trail is a new adventure for Liberty. She is so brave, she just walks right on down the trail.

Pet Peeves: Liberty hates when I use her mane to jump on bareback

My Horse's motto: Always keep going ahead

Keep calm and carry on

How We Met

Love at first sight. She arrived at the local rescue I was volunteering at and I just fell in love. She came from Pennsylvania where she was kept in a stall for almost a year and a half then she was sent to the Camelot Auction in New Jersey where a local rescue group brought her to Connecticut. It took almost all summer to send the application in and get it approved. She moved into my barn in my backyard on Oct 1st 2011.

We are unsure of her breed but the most recent guess is Standardbred/Qu- arter horse cross but some people think Saddlebred or Saddlebred/Arab cross or Saddlebred/Stan- dardbred cross! I guess I will never know, oh well :)

Have you had a chance to ride lately? The weather was lovely today (low 40s, no wind, lots of sun), but I had to work late. Tomorrow's supposed to be nice too, though, and I get off work EARLY!! I'm totally going riding tomorrow. And now that it's no longer December, the daylight will start lasting longer and longer...yay!

My favorite pic so far is the one where she is kneeling on on knee to get under the fence for grass. Jazzy does this all the time to the pasture next to her. I guess the grass is greener on the other side. :) What was your favorite thing you got for Christmas? Mine is my coat. Last year my coat was stolen. I have been very cold this winter. Hope you are having a great day. Marie and Jazzy

Your Horse is Lovely!
Liberty looks so pretty in her profile picture, with her mane flowing out like that. I think it's funny that she will react to the sound of a candy wrapper LOL! I'm glad you rescued her and gave her a good home. Is it snowing in Branford yet? It's not snowing here in Northern Illinois yet, but it's mighty COLD!!

Vote 56 for Lady Libert♥
from Wolken! Wow they would make a lovely couple wouldn't they? Well Wolken is gelded so impossible!

WOLKEN ARRIVING THE 17th or 18TH! YAYYYY! We will have such a great celebration with the transporters who will spend the night here and we will be chowing down and then decorating Wolken’s stall door. Then they are off to pick up their yearling mare ‘Billie Jean’ also an Hanoverian. I will not be spending Christmas for 4 days at my bother & sister in law’s home but I prefer to stay here with the animals, anyway. The rest of my family is stateside with family & friends so that makes me happy! HAPPY SUNDAY VOTE TO YOU ALL! Love Wolken, Angel PF, Angel Samson & GRANT

Hi! I have to make this a quick one. Thanks for making Quincy your HOTD today, it was a total surprise! I am sooo happy thank you!!! Heres a 'Merry Christmas & Thank You' vote for YOU today. It means the whole world to me that I am your friend, your so awesome. I talk to my parents about what goes on around HC sometimes, and my mom's comment one time was "Are you really that "close" to these people?" haha! In my head I said...to me, yes! Thank you all so much. I hope that you have a very very nice day. Sending Love & Prayers_Cya, Erin * Quincy

• ARKLE •
Arkle (19 April 1957 - 31 May 1970) was a famous Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. A bay gelding by Archive out of Bright Cherry, his grandsire was the unbeaten (in 14 races) flat racehorse and prepotent sire Nearco. Arkle was bred at Ballymacoll Stud, County Meath by Mrs. Mary Alison Baker of Malahow House, near Naul, County Dublin. Owned by Anne Grosvenor, Duchess of Westminster, Arkle was trained by Tom Dreaper at Greenogue, Kilsallaghan in County Dublin, Ireland and ridden during his steeplechasing career by Pat Taaffe. At 212 his Timeform rating is the highest ever awarded to a steeplechaser. Only Flyingbolt, also trained by Tom Dreaper, had a rating anywhere near his at 210. The third highest are Kauto Star & Mill House on 191. Despite his career being cut short by injury he still won three Cheltenham Gold Cups, the Blue Riband of steeplechasing, and a host of other top prizes. His first victory at Cheltenham was in the Broadway Chase and it gave the first inkling of what was to come as he won by a breathtaking twenty lengths. Mill House beat Arkle (and gave him 5 lbs) when they first met in the 1963 Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury with Arkle slipping a few fences out and finishing third. However, in the 1964 Cheltenham Gold Cup Arkle avenged that defeat by beating Mill House (who had won the race the previous year) by five lengths to claim his first Gold Cup (and, starting at odds of 7/4, the last time he was not to start favourite for a race). Such was the superiority of these two horses that only two other horses were entered. The racing authorities in Ireland took the unprecedented step in the Irish Grand National of devising two weight systems — one to be used when Arkle was running and one when he wasn't. Arkle won the 1964 race by only one length but he carried two and half stones more than his rivals. The following year's Gold Cup saw Arkle totally dominant over Mill House as he crushed him by twenty lengths at odds of 3/10. In the 1966 renewal he was the shortest priced favourite in history to win the Gold cup starting at odds of 1/10. He won the race very easily by thirty lengths despite a shocking mistake early in the race where he ploughed through a fence. However, it did not stop his momentum nor did he ever look like falling. Arkle had a strange quirk in that he crossed his forelegs when jumping a fence. He went through the season 1965/66 unbeaten in five races at the

Vote 50 Liberty from a royal Hanoverian
Wolken is the regal of the two but Angel Petite Fleur was my mare of a lifetime

Hi friends ! Sorry for the C&P but I had an emotional afternoon. Today, the 9th of December was the anniversary of my lovely mare passing into Horse Heaven. I laid a bouquet of vibrant yellow tulips with a bright red rose in the center behind the barn where she laid her head down for the last breath and was watched silently & respectfully by three other horses watching over me. Cara and Grafitti were there with a beautiful black Arabian gelding Cara would not let get near me. I cried until I could not anymore and then walked through the large pasture to the car where my husband waited to take me home. One nice thing he did was take all the horses a bunch of carrots. Each had atleast three large carrots and some petting. Please say a little prayer for Angel PETITE FLEUR. Thanx HC & DC!

Thanks for stopping by Pippin's page. I'm glad you like him. How are you doing? Is it cold there? Brrr, winter has really set in here. No snow but it's cold! Down in the teens at night but not so bad while the sun is out in the afternoon. I'm always glad that Pippin grows a nice thick arctic coat. He's never cold!

I want to make a memorial tribute video for Barbara Knight, owner of Princess Shawnie and the other Knight mares. Would you like to be a part of that? I'm not sure yet how I'm going to do it. I don't want to do the same as for Joanna but maybe something similar. And I'll probably add some cat and dog friends too since she was also on those channels.

I just got back from a hike with Pippin and my friends and our dogs. As soon as the sun went behind the mountains it was COLD! I think we walked home faster than we walked out! Maybe we're barn sour! hehe

I hope you're doing fine and enjoying the horses in your life. My sister have been enjoying driving Eddie and Prince. No riding for now. We've been banned because of my last concussion. I can't say we're not greatly disappointed. But, maybe this will give my head some time to heal.

Here's a vote for you. I hope you're having a great weekend. And don't forget to let me know if you want to be a part of Barbara's tribute.

Come visit me, Prince, Pippin (Remembering Melian) & Eddie.

Congrats Lady Liberty!
Hi! How are you today? Well first congrats to our NEW HoTm for December 2011- Cocoa 202048! I want to thank you for your support so far. Well, today I want to share with you what I will be blogging about this whole month. I want to share some horse facts! Woop! Haha. Anyways, I hope you are doing well, and I wish a fun December 1st! Heres a vote, and heres a little something about Ajax II.

.,:;^* • AJAX II • *^;:,.
Ajax was a champion Australian bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire, who won 18 consecutive races before he was defeated at the extraordinary odds of 40/1 on, causing a huge racing sensation. He had wins from 5 furlongs (1,000 meters) to 1½ miles (2,400 meters), equaled to Australasian record for a mile (1,600 meters) and created three new race records. At stud in Australia Ajax proved to be a good sire. He was then sold as a 14 year old horse and exported to the United States before he was later sold to Bing Crosby and Lin Howard. Ajax was inducted into in the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2004. At his first two starts Ajax won the Holiday Stakes (5½ furlongs) and the Federal Stakes. He was then unplaced for the only time in his career, in the VRC Sires Produce Stakes. Ajax next finished second to Caesar in the Ascot Vale Stakes, before he returned to New South Wales for wins in the AJC Sires Produce Stakes (defeating Caesar by five lengths and setting a new race record) and the AJC Champagne Stakes from Hua by a margin of two lengths. Ajax commenced his three-year-old season by winning the VATC Chatsworth Plate and then the Rosehill Guineas in a new race record time. In the AJC Derby he was defeated, by a length, by Avenger, to whom he had conceded two stone (12.7 kg). Taken to Melbourne he won the Caulfield Guineas in another race record time, from Avenger and Hua, only to lose the Victoria Derby by half a head from Hua. He was best remembered for winning these 18 consecutive races and for being defeated at his next start in the 1939 Rawson Stakes, when at 40/1 on, in a three horse race where he went down to Spear Chief by half a length. A fortnight later Ajax returned to the winning list in the AJC All Aged Plate and three days later won the CW Cropper Plate for the second time. Ajax finished his a four-year-old season with 15 starts for 14 wins and 1 second. As a six-year-old Ajax again won the Memsie Stakes, Melbourne Stakes and the Underwood Stakes, again for the third time. Ajax was second, by half a neck, to favorite Beau Vite in the 1940 WS Cox Plate and also finished second to High Caste in the Caulfield Stakes. Ajax won the All Aged Stakes, Memsie Stakes, Futurity Stakes and Underwood Stakes three times each and the 1938 Cox Plate. Ajax's record was 46 starts for 36 wins, 7 seconds and 2 thirds for prize money of £40,250. Ajax is the shortest-priced favorite ever defeated in Australia.

PS) Missing our friend Barbara. (Princess Shawnie_121783) RIP my friend! What a sweet lady!! She is missed!
