How We Met

There was a run down Breeding operation that had been abandoned for about 3 months, before the bank came and got the property, all horses were auctioned off, I got her for $150 (worth every penny). She was skin and bones and had JUST lost her foal from Mal-nourishment- , It was a very sad sight to see, So eventually, with enough TLC I fattened her up and now shes good to go, shes very healthy and happy..

How are you doing? I know it's been over a month since I blogged properly and I'm sorry about that. I hope the new year is going well for you. I wanted to stop by and wish all my friends a happy new year but our year started out very very sadly and I haven't been able to bring myself to spread the harsh news.

Have I mentioned Acorn, our squirrel, to you before? We raised her as a baby. On New Year's Eve she was run over by our neighbours. Our driveway is the right of way to several neighbours. I still miss her. She was such a cutie and so very smart and still quite tame. I'm also angry because one shouldn't be such a careless driver. Especially in the middle of a forest on someone else's private land.

It was just so awful. At 1.5 years old she was in the prime of her life and we were prepared to have her around for at least another 14 years. And her first babies would have been born this spring! We miss her.

And then, as if our year hadn't started out badly enough, we also lost one of our kitties. She was getting close to 17 but still seemed healthy enough to go on for a few more years. She took a sudden turn for the worse and now she is gone. Her name was CC and she has a profile on the Cat Channel, 66957. Acorn is also on the SAC at 188686.

She was really good friends with my special Tiny Girl (dog) who died a couple of years ago. It feels to me like I lost my last living link to her. I like to think of them together again.

I hope your year started out a lot better than mine! Pippin is doing great. I don't know what I'd do if something like that happened to him. I don't even want to think about it. How are you and the horses in your life?

I'm so glad you like my avatars. Thanks! You asked how I did them? Well, I just used parts for things for which they were never intended! Like tails for grasses, bodies for hills, etc.

Here's a vote for you and I'll try to be a better blogger. But don't hold your breath!

P.S. I would love for you to see the tribute, Remembering Barbara. It is on YouTube. I haven't had any success getting it on HC yet.

P.P.S. Would you be so kind as to vote for my dog, Melian, the dog names contest? She is currently on page 17. Thank you!

Come visit me, Eddie (In Loving Memory), Prince & Pippin (Gone too soon).

I woke up this morning and it finally SNOWED!! So I am totally going riding today. Since I've only had Luna since September, this will be the first time I've ever ridden her in the white should be fun! I might even take my dog along, too.

I hope you get some riding time in. That's what Saturdays were made for (and Sundays, and Mondays, and the rest of the days, too LOL)!

I left you a vote...have a horsey day!

Come visit me, ~Luna~ & Allie.

hello moonshine! it's another lovely day today so i plan to ride. tonight i go to a Christmas party. my friend's husband has a flatbed trailer and we're going to jump on it and drive around looking at lights! sharing a recipe for a very simple appetizer: take one 8 oz block of cream cheese, softened, and add 1/8 cup chopped nuts and 1/8 cup chopped dried fruit. shape into ball then roll in 1/8 cup nuts and 1/8 cup dried fruit. serve with crackers. couldn't be simpler! i made one using dried cranberries and almonds. very festive. i was driving near a wooded lot and a 5 point buck ran across the road! i was so surprised since it was 10:30am and in a fairly busy area. so glad he made it back into the woods! what a beauty!

Come visit me, Sing & herd!.

Hi! I have to make this a quick one. Thanks for making Quincy your HOTD today, it was a total surprise! I am sooo happy thank you!!! Heres a 'Merry Christmas & Thank You' vote for YOU today. It means the whole world to me that I am your friend, your so awesome. I talk to my parents about what goes on around HC sometimes, and my mom's comment one time was "Are you really that "close" to these people?" haha! In my head I me, yes! Thank you all so much. I hope that you have a very very nice day. Sending Love & Prayers_Cya, Erin * Quincy

Arkle (19 April 1957 - 31 May 1970) was a famous Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. A bay gelding by Archive out of Bright Cherry, his grandsire was the unbeaten (in 14 races) flat racehorse and prepotent sire Nearco. Arkle was bred at Ballymacoll Stud, County Meath by Mrs. Mary Alison Baker of Malahow House, near Naul, County Dublin. Owned by Anne Grosvenor, Duchess of Westminster, Arkle was trained by Tom Dreaper at Greenogue, Kilsallaghan in County Dublin, Ireland and ridden during his steeplechasing career by Pat Taaffe. At 212 his Timeform rating is the highest ever awarded to a steeplechaser. Only Flyingbolt, also trained by Tom Dreaper, had a rating anywhere near his at 210. The third highest are Kauto Star & Mill House on 191. Despite his career being cut short by injury he still won three Cheltenham Gold Cups, the Blue Riband of steeplechasing, and a host of other top prizes. His first victory at Cheltenham was in the Broadway Chase and it gave the first inkling of what was to come as he won by a breathtaking twenty lengths. Mill House beat Arkle (and gave him 5 lbs) when they first met in the 1963 Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury with Arkle slipping a few fences out and finishing third. However, in the 1964 Cheltenham Gold Cup Arkle avenged that defeat by beating Mill House (who had won the race the previous year) by five lengths to claim his first Gold Cup (and, starting at odds of 7/4, the last time he was not to start favourite for a race). Such was the superiority of these two horses that only two other horses were entered. The racing authorities in Ireland took the unprecedented step in the Irish Grand National of devising two weight systems — one to be used when Arkle was running and one when he wasn't. Arkle won the 1964 race by only one length but he carried two and half stones more than his rivals. The following year's Gold Cup saw Arkle totally dominant over Mill House as he crushed him by twenty lengths at odds of 3/10. In the 1966 renewal he was the shortest priced favourite in history to win the Gold cup starting at odds of 1/10. He won the race very easily by thirty lengths despite a shocking mistake early in the race where he ploughed through a fence. However, it did not stop his momentum nor did he ever look like falling. Arkle had a strange quirk in that he crossed his forelegs when jumping a fence. He went through the season 1965/66 unbeaten in five races at the

Thanks! And, Maverick had cracks around the bottom of all of his hooves in a ring, and the ring was purple on his pink hooves; as well as having a dent in it. But, my farrier said that it is history of a time when the weather/his feed (aka, going onto spring grass, getting to much; having a cold spell in winter) made that because he either got on too much spring grass, or sometime in the winter there was a COLD spell, and all of the feed he was eating went into keeping him warm, and then his hooves kind of ''shut down'' until his body realised that he was OK to put some of his feed into growing his hooves and body, instead of focusing on keeping warm. Anyway, it is history now. I AM GLAD!

Thanks! That was very kind of you.
Today Maverick got his hooves trimmed! I was worried about some strange cracky rings, but he trimmed them off, and told me how it happened, and that that was history now. GOOD! I don't want my horses to have hoof problems.
And, I love your avatar!
