Feels like winter is back in Ontario. We left chilly, windy votes for all.
The next stage of Sterl May story could go on and on, I'm just going to give you the highlights. Even tho we live in the country, we had no place to keep her, so I gathered my thoughts and started to look for somewhere she could call home. I did have some criteria, like it needed to be safe, preferably with some kind of companion, Sterl has never been alone, it needed to be close enough that I could get there daily to feed etc. my work day starts early and I did not want to be driving all over the country side before work every day. I put the word out every where, I asked neighbors, I literally started knocking on doors. It was not looking good, until finally someone told me about an old abandoned barn not far from where we lived. There was an old shack of a house on the property that was rented to a young man that farmed with his family, he kept the house as a place to get away from work and be alone. But the barn and pasture had been let go for about 15 years. I took a look at it and at first rejected the whole idea, way too much work involved. But after David and one of my brothers hacked their way through the overgrowth around the barn door, they said "this could work". I used my imagination, the barn had water and electric, it had a pasture. about 5 acres, it needed fencing, but I saw in my mind a safe peaceful home for my girl. I located the owners, I told them my story. It was like it was meant to be. These people owned this property and had planned that one day when they retire, they would build on this land, they where huge animal lovers and where touched by my dedication to Sterl May. They said "if you think that place will work for you, you are welcome to it" the only restriction was, if something goes wrong we don't want to hear about it, I was responsible for the clean up and fencing, and I had to get along with Robert, the tenant in the little house. History on the Gorgeous Akhal-Teke

The Akhal-Teke evolved about three thousand years ago in southern Turkmenistan where they are the national emblem. They are named after the nomadic tribe that bred them and are found mostly in Turkmenistan and Russia. These beautiful horses adapt to severe, climatic conditions and remain to be one of the oldest and purest breed of horse still living today. They are thought to be the predecessors of the Arabian and English thoroughbred breeds. Due to their endless stamina and the ability to withstand great extremes of temperature they were originally bred as war mounts and later for racing. Today the Akhal-Teke is used in all competitive equine sports including endurance, dressage, jumping, and eventing. I had a great day today, we reached a high of almost 30 degrees! I took advantage of the nice weather and rode Misty, Dakota and Scout. Misty had been running around a bunch before I caught her so she was wore down a bit once I rode her which was nice. Today instead of lunging Sierra I ponied her off of Misty. She did very good and for the first time she loped without bucking or trying to get away. I took Dakota for a nice long gallop, boy can that little guy go! Once I was done riding Dakota Ethan wanted to ride too so I saddled Scout and we took them for a ride down the road. The horses must enjoy the warmer weather because they all behaved so good today. I dont really like the new HC but I guess I will get used to it eventually. I hope that none of you will stop coming on because of the change.

I had a fun ride on Misty today. It has warmed up a bit(20 degrees!) but along with the warmer temps come the snow, we got about another inch this morning. Sierra did great today for lungeing, backing, flexing etc. Dakota and Scout have just been taking it easy, I will probably ride them tommorow. There are a bunch of new videos on the video page, Misty's is on the second page, please watch it if you get a chance. I will try to get a video up of Dakota and Scout soon.

I'm so glad its finally Saturday! I did some work with Sierra this morning and she behaved perfectly( I never thought I would be able to say that about her, she is sooo wild sometimes!) I didn't lunge her very much because the rain has made everything all sloppy and I didn't want her slipping. A long time ago I lunged her when it was muddy out and when I asked her to reverse her legs slid out from under her and she fell hard on her side so now I take it more easy on her when its muddy. She is doing great with her flexing, sometimes she will flex on her own as soon as she sees me sliding my hand down the rope. Later I took her out and led her around the yard for a bit. Someone had a truck parked in the driveway and all of a sudden whoever it was got in and revved up the engine and I thought oh great, now she's going to go nuts but she hardly noticed it. She gets so nutty about some things and then so laid back about others, she always keeps me guessing!

A fellow Vermonter! From Vergennes!
Hi all, I’ve been really busy lately. Finished my ballet semester with a Nutcracker performance- it’s been 10 years of ballet now! I did the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Snowflake Waltz. Koko is doing really well, her feet look great and she is moving so well now. Song’s baby is due in September of next year!! So excited!! I’m ready for the holidays too, anyone have ideas for a Secret Santa present for a girl? Our morning meeting does one every year- budget $5 or homemade. (I’m thinking cookies at this point) Hopefully Eileen will be up this weekend for another lesson!
Do you take regular lessons through the winter, or do you scale off?

A lot of you wanted to know which profile edit Pippin's Mom helped with. That edit is Cowboy & Trigger's profile photo for this day. My computer knowledge is extremely limited. I spent hoursssssss trying to put Cowboy & Trigger's image on the snowy background, it would not work. Finally I thought, Ask a FRIEND! And Pippin's mom did it! She is like a computer wizard! She put the two images together and she helped me learn how to make my own photos the same way!!!!!! I am certainly taking advantage of my new found computer skill.
