My Horse Profile

Quarter Horse from Terra Alta, WV

About Me

Active within 1377 Days

I am from Terra Alta, WV and I've been a Club Horse member for 6 years, 4 months and 28 days

Nicknames: Twi, pretty girl, little girl
~named her for the time of night that I would dream of her, not the Twilight series~

Age: 9 years old

Gender: Mare

Breed: Quarter Horse

Height: 15.2 hands, Quarter Horse/Percheron cross

Color: Beautiful black with small white star.

Type of Riding: Right now we're just trail riding to get her used to everything. I did start riding her in parades this fall and she has done awesome in both. I mostly ride her western and bareback. I have done a little english with her.

My Horse's Achievements: She learned to trust me when I got her as a wild 10 month old & she did so well with her basic training. She is a quick learner and really smart. She would take her halter off the wall and try to unlatch her gate whenever she wanted to get out of her stall.
1/15/12 She is now kissing and saying "please" (putting her head down) on command. She looks like she's bowing when she does it.
12/31/12 - Rode her in two parades now and she's done great for doing them at only 3 1/2 yrs old. A bunch of people couldnt believe how well behaved she was for being that young. I uploaded pics from the first parade.

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Peppermints is all time fav. Likes alfafa cubes and apples too.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Eating, running in the pasture, & kissing for treats.

Pet Peeves: Very wary of cows, loves to go exploring, likes to go riding at night.

My Horse's motto: Never give up on your dreams & have fun riding.

How We Met

I had been wanting a horse for a long time & my mom finally said yes. Our farrier heard of her for sale & told me. I saw her for the first time on my 16th b-day & bought her 3 days later after falling in love with her. She is a Quarter Horse/Percheron cross, but looks like just a Quarter Horse. She is my dream come true that I almost gave up on, but kept saving for. For anyone out there, don't give up on your dream horse..

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Thank A Veteran : "This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” (Elmer Davis)

I hope you gals and guys are saddling up Saturday and/or Sunday in support of our Veterans. People who give or gave their lives for others each day they served, when they really did not have to do so. Wow, what amazing people they are.

My granddad was in WWII and my oldest son has served in the Afghanistan wars, working on communications devices. I have one cousin serving in the navy, that was injured during the attack against the United States Navy destroyer USS Cole on October 12, 2000.

We all are affected by the military in some way.
No need to be shy! Know a veteran, share and show love & support! Share interesting military facts, quotes, and experiences on Fancy's Veteran's Day page! Don't forget to leave a blog letting me know if you have a photo to add! Ask your HorseChannel friends to participate in Sunday's HorseChannel trail ride.)

Here's a vote from Fancy & Trigger :^)

When I logged in tonight I saw some comments that touched my heart. I am thankful for my HorseChannel friends. You never know how much you mean. You guys are the best!!!

No ride today, it was very chilly and windy :(

Does anyone remember reading last month, about a nationwide Ride to Remember Veterans during Veteran's Day weekend, Nov. 10-11, 2012? How would you guys like to have our own HorseChannel ride in honor of Veteran's Day? We can chose one day that we all will ride on, even if it is only for a few minutes or just to sit on the horse during the Veteran's holiday. Then we could share our pics from that day and share our story of the day. If you agree would Sunday November the 11 be ok for our ride date?

November is a time of thanks. Thanks should be part of our every day lives all year long. Let us be thankful for our friends and loved ones. Let us be kind one to another. Cruelty has no place among true friends.

But my team made it to State for the first time in the last 5 years. =) I also have lots schoolwork. Champion is doing okay, but his arthritis has gotten really bad and he may have to be put down soon. ='(

It was a lovely day until the rains came in. There was a long storm that recently ended. It feels really nice outside these days.
Trigger was blind in one eye before we got him. Monday his blind eye was very cloudy. Today the vet told me Trigger is fine long as he is in no pain. He is such a great kids horse. I hate that something happened to his eye and I pray that I can take good care of him from now on.

Please visit Sassy Sapphire #193884 and leave an encouraging word. From what I can tell, her blog to me says Sassy Sapphire's owner lost her father this past Sunday morning.

One of my friends was out last Saturday at one of the state parks riding and there was an accident. Her friend dismounted to help and her friend's palomino TWH walked off. They were on the news tonight asking for help to find the missing horse. Please pray that they find Jasmine in good health very soon.

Very Important Message from Logan #237047: Could you please spread the word that my wrist is in really bad condition and I can't vote for people today! It is swelled up pretty bad and moving it hurts! Please spread the word!

Have a blessed and peaceful night

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, in honor of Angel Pixie Dust's (profile 101958) May HOTM campaign for our Angel Joanna, ANGELS HAVE NO PHILOSOPHY BUT LOVE:
"If we were all like angels, the world would be a heavenly place." (Author Unknown)

I dedicate this special occasion of our first show together to Joanna and Pixie Dust.

Fancy spent Friday night in a blanket with hopes she would be more clean than dirty come morning. The back clip had come undone, but that blanket did serve the purpose. Fancy only had one area on the side of her neck that was dirty. Once at the farm, I cleaned her dirty spot and her feet before introducing Fancy to the sandy arena. At first she was a little excited to be in a new place, but soon settled down. We only entered two classes this time. Fancy was fine, except she did not like horses standing behind her. When horses were lined up behind us, Fancy kept trying to spin around to see exactly what they had in mind back there.
We entered class 2 Adult Halter with 6 entries and Fancy placed 3rd!!!! This was the first time I ever won a ribbon with any horse!!! I was so excited. We didn't do so well in Class 3 as we placed 5th out of 5. However, We did leave with 2 ribbons from our first show!!!

Love From our herd to yours♥

Today is my very first track meet!!! The bus leaves at 2:40, but we haven;t gotten our uniforms yet so I will have to go a little early to change.
I cannot wait! I hope I can run the 100 or 200 meters. We only have 5 jr. high girls on the team so I will most likely run in all the relays too.

On Saturday we were at a rabbit meeting, and we had to leave early cuz a tornado was sighted about 10 miles from the meeting!!

"The guardian angels of life fly so high as to be beyond our sight, but they are always looking down upon us." (Jean Paul Richter)

PLEASE READ, CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS BLOG: I made an error in dates listed in my blog. I also somehow accidentally lost Joanna's first name in some of my blogs.

The CORRECT INFORMATION is Joanna Helen Wicke January 1, 1977-September 23, 2011.

I guess I am not very reliable at 3:30 in the morning. I appreciate Marion and Indy calling this to my attention and I apologize for the error.

There are a few active HorseChannel members that remember Joanna. If you remember Joanna, PLEASE share a blog on Fancy's page. I would love to read what you have shared with Joanna during her short stay here.

Hi! I hope you are doing well today looking forward to a horsey weekend and celebrating this Easter weekend. We are in a 3 day stretch of cold rain & I am freezing :) We are not expecting warmer temps, but we do expect the rain to clear up this afternoon. Then we can have some fun.

"Sometimes even the flight of an angel hits turbulence." (Terri Guillemets)

MESSAGE FROM JOANNA'S SISTER APRIL 4, 2012: I just found the webpage on HorseChannel and it is so sweet. My parents and I are really appreciate of everyone's kind gestures, which mean so much to us. Thank you!!

Your responses to my blogs have encouraged me during the blogs that I have written. Sometimes it is hard when you miss someone that has touched you in a special way. I thank you so much.

I really hope you have enjoyed reading and learned some things about our Angel Joanna. Thanks for reading these blogs and taking into consideration how Joanna touched many lives during her short stay on earth. We never knew just how giving she was until it was too late.

Be kind, be sweet, be loving to one another, because we don't know what a person is struggling with from day to day and we all have struggles.

Be Blessed ♥

"We're all kissed by angels but some of us never think to pucker." (Terri Guillemets)

Joanna loved animals, but she had other loves in her life as well. Joanna was loved by not only her personal family and HorseChannel friends. I learned that Jane Seymour, star of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, was a very personal close friend that paid several visits to Joanna. You see, people of all walks of life could benefit from knowing such a loving & kind spirit.

Joanna often mentioned Dancing With The Stars in her blogs. When Jane was on Dancing With The Stars I don't think Joanna would have missed a single show. Joanna has managed a fan website for Jane's Dancing With The Stars partner, Tony Dovolani and Karina Smirnoff. Joanna spent her last evening watching Dancing with the stars. ONLY NOW, I know how important the very thought of dancing must have been to Joanna. I bet the first thing she did when she arrived in Heaven was to dance. Something that so many of us take for granted. I hope that sometime today you will stand on your feet when you hear your favorite song or hum a tune to yourself and dance a few steps in honor of our Angel Joanna.

I hope through these blogs you can understand how unique Joanna was and the way she inspired me to try my best to be a better person. We all experience turbulence in our lives. But this young lady was able to look past the turbulence in her life with an amazing desire to share life and love with others. In spite of her many health issues, Joanna was a blessing to those that knew her.

just came back from a beautiful warm ride to the local weekly auction for lunch with Cheri. i used to English saddle and got sore :~( we galloped up a short stone field lane on the way home, awesomeness :~)

I am planning to go to Sharon for supper then practice after supper. i would let Sweet Pea have a break after that long ride, but we didn't run other than that field lane and this is the only evening that RuthAnn is going to be at Sharon. some of you on HC met her. :~) she has Daisy, Shasta (#211398) and Angel Navajo.

hope you all have a wonderful day. are you doing anything on Good Friday? some people from our church are going to Philly to hand out tracts and i would really want to go along then go to Philadelphia Zoo with my family but we'll have to see.

It is not because angels are holier than men or devils that makes them angels, but because they do not expect holiness from one another, but from God alone. ~William Blake

Sometime in 1991, Joanna came across 2 Shetland ponies for sale in a want ad. Both ponies were purchased by her family and given to Bloomfield Hills School Farm. Joanna named the ponies Tinkerbell & Pixie Dust. Joanna helped her mom create and teach 'LOVE-A-PONY', an afterschool and summer class for children. For seven years Joanna was with her ponies almost every day. It has been over 19 years since creating LOVE-A-PONY, and I have read that this pony class is still being taught this very day.

Joanna's was confined to her bed the last 9 years of her life, during which Pixie Dust was allowed to visit Joanna at her bedside. Joanna also made friends all across the world with the use of her computer, thanks to her dad for building a stand that allowed her to safely use the computer while lying down.

Pixie Dust at 21 years old, has joined Joanna in Heaven. I have read that this date was sometime around or on the 27 of February, 2012. I can only imagine the joy felt during that reunion.

Joanna was extraordinary. Always thinking of how she could help others, even through the use of her ponies. She loved unconditional and she reached out to others, even when she needed to be reached out to.

Joanna, a true inspiration ♥

A group of members have formed a group, known as the Angel Crew. The Angel Crew would like to win Angel Pixie Dust the honor of being HorseChannel's May Horse of the Month in honor of Joanna. If you would like to help, please visit Pixie Dust's HorseChannel page #101958 and leave a vote each day during the month of April 2012.

Pixie Dust, belonged to our Facebook pal and HorseChannel member, Joanna Wicke. Joanna was loved by all who knew her. She was always positive and uplifting to others. Joanna welcomed Fancy and I to HorseChannel with unbelievable love and daily support. After a disturbing disappearance of Joanna, Sadie's owner, Joyce informed us that Joanna had passed away in her sleep at the tender age of 34 on September 23, 2011. It was only then that her many health conditions were revealed. Even though being confined to her bed for the past 9 years, Joanna never once revealed a single pain to us. What a remarkable YOUNG person to have as a friend.
It was in 1991 that Joanna & her mom purchased Pixie Dust to share with the Bloomfield Hills School Farm. For 7 years Joanna helped her mom create & teach Love-A-Pony, an afterschool & summer class for children.

hello all!! congrats to Duke for HOTD!
so sorry i wasn't on and voting since Friday! Saturday i usually don't on, and Sunday's i never do. But i missed Monday and Tuesday :~( i missed you all!

Mom dropped me off at my friend Sherena's house Sunday afternoon. we were together till my other friend Danika came around 8:30. we were going to sleep overnight there and go out to eat for breakfast then danika was going to go to her school and i would have visited Sherena's school with her. FUN. but one thing-i got SICK. so right when Danika came, they had to take me home :~( boohoo. i was sick till Tuesday morning. I didn't feel like doing my school so i couldn't go on HC. but mom gave me extra time today!! YAY!

didn't work with my horses at all....just found out that the local RODEO is going to be MAY 5TH!! i am sooooooo excited!!! last year Sweet Pea won a BLUE in pole bending and a RED in barrel racing. My friend Sharon said that if it's not muddy, i can come over and practice in her meadow because she has everything set up. Maybe i'll do that tomorrow.

so that's what going on!! how was your weekend? hope it was better than mine! but even though i got sick, i was able to write ALOT in my book that I'm writing. well...sorta. i won't get it published or anything, but i might type it up for my friends and family :~) just a fun thing to do when i get bored.

I BELIEVE....God wants me to put Him first in my life.

had a gorgeous late night ride with Sweet Pea, around the field lane. It was almost dark, just dusk, and it was soooo much fun! i galloped almost the whole way. she really listens with the Tom Thumb bit, I'm actually surprised!

Then i went on an early morning ride...well it was only 10:30, but that's early for me especially cause I have school to do. I just went on the stone lane near our house. Its on a hill and i usually let her gallop. I was at the bottom, still holding her back to a trot (well, a jig) and i reached front to grab a handful of mane to steady me....(she does have POWER takeoffs) and she starts hopping around and half rearing. I let the reins loose and she pounded up the lane...she always slows down at the top, this time i hardly had to pull on the reins!! i really missed just galloping and cantering all over the place. I think it's best to just skip jumping and just RIDE.

when i got back i tied the horses out till lunch so they could enjoy the nice lush grass. but, i'm careful about letting them out to long. don't want them to founder. :~(

i hosed both Sweet Pea and Flicka off when i brought them back in and then they ROLLED. Sweet Pea covered with dirt from forelock to tail....ugh.

hope you have a wonderful day!!! ~~~~Andrea and the horses...and one filthy who could she be...LOL ;~)

ponied Flicka (on Sweet Pea) over to the farrier. We walked the whole way, took us 45 minutes. Sweet Pea does good if I stand by her head and hold her instead of tying her. she's funny. sometimes when we go, i just sit in the chairs behind her and she cranes her head around to look at me like "hey, come over here and protect me" :~) silly girl. She did great, but the whole way home she really wanted to GO. I also got both their teeth done, and yes Marion, he said that Sweet Pea's were pretty sharp. i just looked when the last time was that they were done, and it was a whole year. so maybe she'll act a little better now :~)

had a nice (short, but pleasant) ride on Sweet Pea last night quickly before supper. Let her stretch out up a steep hill. At first i was a little apprehensive about letting her gallop, since i was bareback, but i stuck on like a burr. :~) bareback is definitely the way to go, except when your horse is acting dumb :~).

Cowboy C and I have been very busy lately. We give Trigg his med baths and take him for a daily walk to help him dry. Then we let Trigg and Fancy eat grass in the back yard.
Fancy is a little jealous off Trigg. She tries to stay in between Trigg and us. I tell her no and make her back up when she does this. Today Fancy was a good girl when my son walked over to tell Trigg goodnight.
Thursday my little Cowboy rode Trigg in the back yard. Trigg has not been ridden since the last time 'C' rode him in November at the farm. He is not perfect, but he was pretty good.

Well, I need to finish my blogging and voting so I can get some rest. You have a good night ♥

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate BlackHistory Month:
Johnny Nash,Jr.(born August 19, 1940) American pop singer-songwriter, best known in the US for his 1972 hit, "I Can See Clearly Now".
What was Nash, the pop crooner, doing in felt cowboy hat, suede vest & boots? Each week he would sponsor a rodeo for aspiring bull riders, barrel racers & pint-sized goat chasers. Nash & his wife, Carlie, built a ranch & opened an arena around January 1993. Some of Nash's best childhood memories are of riding in the country at his grandmother's ranch. So once the music industry lost some of its luster, it seemed natural that he recreate those feelings of freedom by building his own ranch. Later, it seemed only natural that he share those feelings with city kids.
Inside the arena was a true Texas rodeo, complete with barbecue, tacos & music that didn't quit till 2 a.m. Nash says the typical audience was around 200. The mood was enthusiastic but restrained.
On weekends, cowboys & families of all colors would play hard together without noticing the different shades of their skin. During the week, busloads of city kids would learn the mysteries of goats & horses. Nash had hopes of another project, the Four-N-Foundation, to support an on-horseback drill team for area youth.
2012 Johnny Nash's arena is still standing, but sadly it is not being used today.
Nash's music remained popular in Britain through the mid-1980s, but he hit a wall in the United States by 1975. His recording company urged him to rock up his balladeer style, but Nash chose to stop performing. Today, he sings only in his church choir & local schools, preferring privacy over public appearances.
"He's a very positive role model, a mentor-type person," says William "Skip" Samuel, a child-care worker and Nash family friend.

I BELIEVE....Jesus is coming back, maybe today. Are you ready?

Cantering by with a 60 degrees-and-no-wind day!!!! YAY!!! worked with Flicka. put on a combination of harness pad, rope and two large rings that Sharon gave me to put together. it didn't fall apart so i guess i can use it again! :~) long-drove her all around the property. she stopped a little better that she did last time. Still pulls hard though

jumped Sweet Pea a bit too, but it DID NOT go well at all, so i guess i'll settle down and work on nothing but circles circles circles...AND lots of long trail rides. i think she really misses the trails because i don't ride on them as much as i used to since Cheri doesn't ride hardly, and when me and Andrea ride we don't go very far at all.

hope you all have a wonderful evening!!!
~Andrea and the horses

P.S thanks so much for all your advice. you're all very helpful!!

Come visit me, SweetPea & Flicka & Acorn.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate BlackHistory Month:
“To live anywhere in the world today and be against equality because of race or color is like living in Alaska and being against snow.” (William Faulkner)

Fancy Queen of Heart Month is blowing a heart vote in your direction this beautiful Monday morning.

We thank Joey, Ginger, and Angel Betsy for suggesting us doing the Black History blogs this past few weeks. I enjoyed this project, it was fun to share some of my most favorite horsey characters with you guys. I appreciate the comments and responses we received.

'C' & I trailered Trigger home Saturday morning. 'C' led Trigger to the trailer, however once Trigg saw that he was leaving he pitched a fit for King Kong. King Kong was so busy eating grass, he had no cares for Trigger's plight. Once loaded Trigger was just fine. He didn't like the idea of a bath, but it was fun cleaning him up. After his baths we take him walking and let him graze while he dries.
Sunday evening, Trigger and Fancy were turned out together for the first time. To my surprise, Fancy is not even mean to Trigger, not at all. She lets him walk anywhere he wants to, lets him eat her hay and she even eats with him. However, she does stay in between Trigger and I. I was patting Fancy on the side of her neck and Trigger wanted a pat to. He walked towards me and Fancy ran him off. He looked so pitiful. I think after a while she will allow him to come to me too, because Trigger is the very first animal in our yard that Fancy is not very mean to. I wonder if she is nice to him because she remembers him from last summer when we visited the farm, he visited us, and we went riding together.
I was very tired Sunday night. I did get my profile photos changed, then I was off to bed.

Hope you enjoyed a beautiful weekend. Did you do anything fun?
Now, YOU enjoy this Marvelous Monday!

Located in Hartford, CT, United States, The Ebony Horsewomen, Inc founded in 1984, by Patricia E. Lawson-Kelly, is a non-profit community-service organization, developed and operated by African-American female equestrians whose mission is to encourage and empower inner city youth toward positive and successful lives through the use of horses. This female group of skilled equestrians have delighted crowds wherever they go. They have appeared in parades, rodeos and horse shows all across America. They have the proud honor of being the first female African-American female Equestrian organization to have been invited to the Tournament Of Roses Parade, in Pasadena, California, 1990, and 1991. Ebony Horsewomen members have appeared in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade, in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo circuit, just to name a few appearances. Additionally, the State of Connecticut Legislature proclaimed EHI "Goodwill Ambassadors and declared Connecticut to be the official home of the Ebony Horsewomen. Twenty-three years ago, EHI was founded upon the knowledge and belief in the healing power that horses give to youth. Based on this belief they have developed a unique array of programs that encourage and develop youth participants into productive and positive citizens and future leaders. Their full service Equestrian Center offers innovative and therapeutic programs to youth and it also adds a new dimension and vibrancy to their community.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Celebrate BlackHistory Month:
Willie Simms, born 1/16/1870, near Augusta, Georgia, U.S.—died 2/26/1927, Asbury, New Jersey), 1 of only 2 African American jockeys (the other is Isaac Burns Murphy) 2 have been elected 2 the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Simms began racing in 1887 & became the most successful rider 2 adopt the short stirrup since the antebellum slave & rider Abe Hawkins. The short stirrup lifts the rider over the horse’s withers, allowing the animal better balance. In 1895 Simms became the 1st American jockey 2 win in England, where sportswriters referred 2 him as a “monkey on a stick.” The short stirrup earned more esteem after the white American jockey Tod Sloan used it 2 win English races in 1897, & it came to be known as the “American seat.”
Simms won the Belmont Stakes in 1893 & 1894, the Kentucky Derby in 1896 & 1898, & the Preakness Stakes in 1898; he is the only African American 2 have won all of the Triple Crown classics. Simms was the leading American jockey (on the basis of number of wins) in 1893 & 1894. He retired in 1901 with 1 of the best lifetime winning percentages in the sport, 24.8.

hello malachia!!!

I BELIEVE...God wants me to have a good relationship with my parents.

cantering by with a sunny-and blustery-day!! had an OK weekend, went to a youth servant auction saturday evening. gave Kayla (sister-9) a riding lesson on Sweet Pea on Sunday afternoon, she was great, she just needs to work on keeping her heels down and not letting her hands get sloppy...which i have a really bad habit of, too. :~(

then after giving her a lesson, i jumped a bit and Kayla took a video, wish i could post it on here, but it won't let me, maybe i should try again!!! THEN, after that, i ponied Flicka around the field lane. i really like ponying, it exercises both horses at once, especially since Flicka can't be ridden yet...cant wait ;~)

today i just got back from a nice (and cold) 45 minute long ride with my friends Andrea and Cheri. this was the first time Cheri was riding Autumn, because she had strained a ligament or something. I took Flicka along, on Sweet Pea, too. so there was 4 horses. Flicka was a bit uneasy at first with the strange horses, but then she settled down.

so whats up in your life?? are any of you Pennsylvanians planning to go the to Horse World Expo in Harrisburg?? we were planning to go (my friends and i) but then it didn't work out :~( and my mom cant take me and my sisters either, so apparently God didn't want to us to go...His will is best and I'm not complaing. Pat and Linda Parelli are on a US tour, and there going to be in Harrisburg on March 31-April 1. hope i can see them then!! have an AWESOME day!!

Come visit me, SweetPea & Flicka & Acorn.
