How We Met

I have never met a horse that had so much to give. I wasn't even looking for a horse to buy. I just wanting to take lessons but than my trainer put me on Shiloh. She was surprised that I liked her. Her coat was a mess and her bridle path wasn't cut. You could tell no-one loved her. Unlike most of the people who rode her just to keep her shape I loved every-thing about her she was challenge. I rode her the very next time after that I stopped for a while but than some-thing called me back to her. My first time riding in again she spooked at a tarp and went crazy. I could tell she was a-lot of work from there on I kept working on her not giving up. My mom didn't understand how I could fall in love with her and neither could any of my friend's but I didn't care. We sure proved every-one wrong we are now a unbeatable team fulled with love and passion..

Hooves crossed for Whiskey to be ~ May HOTM ♡
<)___~ Whiskey will return to the Doc on May 20th for his next set of x-ray’s. I feel he will be just fine, last dose of bute yesterday and I think in 2 days will tell a lot of how he is but I can’t know for sure until the next visit. I want to thank you all for all the amazing support throughout the month of April. I hope you enjoyed his story and I surely hope I can tell you many more story’s in the future of he & I riding together…God bless you all…..I honestly did not realize how difficult and demanding running for HOTM could be until now! Not having a computer at home really made this challenging for me, so again I cannot say thanks enough, sending love to you & your herds!!!!!!!
Here is our finial tidbit on the Fabulous Rocky Mountain Horse Breed! In the early 1960s, Sam Tuttle managed the trail riding concession at the Natural Bridge State Park in Powell County, Kentucky. He had as many as fifty horses there, including TOBE. This stallion was often seen tied to the hitching post alongside all the mares. He became quite well known in the ten or so years he was ridden there. Besides breeding, TOBE was used as a trail horse. He carried Sam, and sometimes the trail guides who worked for Sam, with sure-footed ease over mountainous terrain for many years. Although Sam would allow other people to ride TOBE occasionally, it was always a ride closely supervised. He loved to show off his beloved stallion, but also kept a close eye on him. Everyone who rode TOBE enjoyed his gentle temperament and comfortable gait. It amazed people to think the well-mannered horse they were riding was indeed a breeding stallion.
TOBE was used for breeding until July of his thirty-fourth year, and he passed on his gait, disposition, and other great qualities to his offspring. It has been said that TOBE's progeny followed in his "perfectly-timed" footsteps. TOBE sired many fine horses before his death at the ripe old age of thirty-seven. One outstanding trait passed on was longevity, as many of his offspring were still breeding into their late twenties and early thirties.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it! Hoping to see him as the top horse tomorrow!!!!!

weekend phone votes ♡
When I got home from work Friday (4/11/14-2 weeks ago) I noticed Whiskey was walking slow and didn't seem right. He has NEVER been sore after a trim but I thought this could be a first time...Brent (my farrier) had been out that morning and put shoes on Deacon and trimmed the other 2. As I watched I knew something was wrong and put a call into Doc Edwards (he specializes in horses only). I then gave Whiskey bute because he then kept laying down and I could tell he was in pain. I watched him drink water, I saw him pea & poop, I listened for guts sounds in his tummy so I knew he wasn't colicing. Doc finally called he wanted Whiskey in early Saturday morning 4/12/14. He assured me that giving the bute was fine and it was the right thing to do. He also knew how upset I was and again assured me that I had caught this in time but couldn't tell me anything until he saw him the next morning. Yes, founder is what it is…..Phone votes over the weekend, his story will continue Monday 4/28…..
The Rocky Mountain Horse Association's (RMHA) rendition of the history of the breed states there was a gaited colt brought from the Rocky Mountain region of the United States to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in eastern Kentucky around 1890. He was referred to as "the Rocky Mountain Horse" by the local Kentucky people because of the area of the country from which he had come. He is the horse credited for the start of the Rocky Mountain Horse breed. Little is known about this foundation stallion, but oral history indicated he was chocolate-colored with flaxen mane and tail, and he possessed a superior gait. The stallion was bred to the local Appalachian saddle mares in a relatively small geographical area and the basic characteristics of a strong genetic line continued. This prized line of horses increased in numbers as years went by, and these are the horses known today as Rocky Mountain Horses.

Celebrating Easter with love, hugs & votes 4 all!
✞ Picking up from yesterday about him tossing his head about bugs. Sometimes I can make a pony tail in his fore lock and that helps a lot. I think he sees his hair sometimes and over reacts, big ol’ treat hound! As soon as we get under the trees on those trails he just stops tossing his head and settles right back into his awesome self. I will add Rocky Mountain facts to my blogs for the rest of our HOTM run. I hope you enjoy them =)
The history of the Rocky Mountain Horse from 1890 to the latter part of the 1900s carries little or no documentation and few facts that can be proven beyond the shadow of doubt. Everyone who personally witnessed the breed's beginnings (back to the 1800s) is deceased, and we have been left with only verbal history passed down from generation to generation. Thus, all that can be recorded at this point in time are the stories recollected by living descendants. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

The more we rode the better Whiskey got at reining. The more miles and trails the easier it got on me and him. I discovered Whiskey loves the water. The picture today was taken 8/2012. We can get in a few minutes but I have to move him out or he will try to lie down, but I can take him right back in and then he settles to stand, doesn’t swim yet with me. We are still working toward that. We haven’t camped out in nearly 2 years, and that is when I can try to swim with the horses. It’s too hard to try swimming when I day ride because of the drive home (driving wet is no fun) -ha ha =) Deacon is my true water baby-he will actually swim with me and never try to lie down. I have also found that Whiskey hates for any type bug to fly in his face-so needless to say while we ride in the open if there are grass hoppers or butter flies, regular fly’s he tosses his head slightly. It doesn’t bother me now but it used to. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Today Whiskey is bowing on the 1 year anniversary of the West explosion. God bless our beautiful town our motto is “After West, forever forward”. God bless our town and God bless America! I continued to work with him and every now and then I still put the O ring on him and to keep him sharp. I am not all that good with all kinds of bits. I have not mastered the bit world-well, probably not a lot of horse things but I am on my journey and heading that way. I can ride Whiskey & Deacon both with just halters on but have never tired bridle-less yet. Another goal of mine after I finish getting my round pen larger and have a set up where it will work for us. Whiskey & I continued to push forward and of course everyday he got better and better. We were learning each other and I loved every minute of it. Phone votes tomorrow, I will get back to our story on Saturday. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

The 1st few times I rode Whiskey my arms were wore out and tired. I was thinking “man what in the world”. He did not and could not Neck rein. He was very hard in the mouth, no flex in his neck but Karla & Tim told me he needed that kind of work. Tim felt he didn’t ride him in collection and so on. He was Tim’s first horse. We would get under the canopy of the trees on the trails and he would do great with my seat aids which I was happy about. That is how I ride him, with my seat and leg aids. I guess we all are supposed to do that RIGHT!!!! I then started planning my next few months of teaching him to neck rein. I just went back to the beginning and put him in an “O” ring snaffle and took it from there. Every day his personality would shine and he entertained Cliff & me with his antics! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Finally that Saturday morning rolled around. I could hardly sleep the night before. Everything was running threw my head about what I was going need and about if I had everything ready for his arrival to our place. I kept thinking about how alpha Deacon was and how they would get along. After all they have road a thousand miles of trails together. . The more I thought, the more I felt like after the ride we would come on home instead of camping. I wanted to get him home and on our property to make this dream come true for me. I had never rode Whiskey until the day I bought him, can you believe that!!! It did not matter to me how he rode at all, I wanted him and that was that! We had a nice ride that day and came on home. Cliff broke out his tools and started working around the barn. Today’s picture is of Whiskey’s first comedy show for us. He said (ha ha) “Dad, I can bring this orange Home Depot bucket to ya, I know it has feed in it for me!” Enjoy! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

We left off Friday about the phone call to buy Whiskey! The arrangement was made for us to meet that weekend and Whiskey would be mine. The next few days were like a life time to me. I had put in a vacation day for that Friday because I knew I couldn’t concentrate and I wanted to get everything ready for the trail ride …I mainly wanted to get everything ready for his new home with us. Cliff was putting in our stalls at the time. I came home the day Karla called and talked with Cliff of course. Like I said he wasn’t working but he was working at our place (love cheap labor) lol. That next day after work I came home and he had added the 3rd stall, I started to cry of course because I knew he understood how badly I wanted Whiskey. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Monday we left off about Whiskey’s color and me with 5 hundred questions for Karla! Here we go…That poor girl had never met me before and I could not shut up :) I then walked over and looked Whiskey right in the eye and he looked back into mine and my heart sunk. His beauty was striking and the color was outstanding. He had a smart, sharpness about him-I’m sure he was thinking “what in the world is she doing”. The ride finally got underway; usually everyone has me ride out front and calls me the trail boss! Deacon is a faster walking horse but can ride in the middle or behind after the first hour or so. Well, here comes Rio & Whiskey with their smooth selves!!! They just gaited their smooth self’s right past me & Deacy. I watched Whiskey and noticed he didn’t quite move the same as Rio but still a difference from a QH. 2 hours into the ride we decided to rest a few minutes in a place we call “Carol’s lounge”. We have names for all our spots we ride to rest or to take a break out there because it’s so big. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Whiskey would love your support for his HOTM run
In 2008 the decision was made after a talk with our boy’s and Cliff. It was time for me to get back on my horse journey. I purchased Deacon in March 23, 2008 and then bought Whiskey in May 2010. When I run Deacon I will tell more about the 1st 2 years back on my journey. Now that you have some back ground on me and my journey I will start Whiskey’s story with me. As many of you know I trail ride and use to camp with the horses all the time, now we just day ride. Hoping this spring sometime to camp again-fingers crossed =) It has been 2 years sense we have camped out with them. We would camp at Mccown or Plowman Valley at Lake Whitney Texas or at Reynolds Creek Lake Waco, Texas. During those times I have met a lot of people and their different type of horses. On one Oct. weekend we had some friends of Bill’s that was coming that I had never met. I asked Bill as we all were getting our horses ready for our ride that day, what type horses did these friends have? He said Rocky Mountain horses…I said hummmm, never heard of that breed. The thoughts in my head about this breed had me so curious. Now tomorrow we are into his story fully….hang in there! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Generally healthy horses, they often live long lives but do have a tendency to be extremely "easy keepers". Care must be taken to keep your Rockies from becoming too overweight, particularly in their later years.* Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Fancy's herd is doing fine. Fatima is gaining a little weight and she still acts the same. Trigger is just golden. Our friend that rode him the other week, she keeps talking about how good Trigger is.
Have a fine evening and stay warm. Maybe it is warmer at your house now. It sure is chilly here.

Q: Can February March?
A: No, but April May!

HI guys, Fancy is here with a Monday morning vote and a blog from Frances.

Good morning! I will tell you a little about our weekend before I run out of steam ")
I am still working with the scar tissue in my hand. The lump in my hand is still large, but has decreased in size. I think that is good.

Fatima is gaining weight in her rib area and she is very friendly.

My oldest son came home Friday. We have been out a lot. Saturday he cooked breakfast before we went out to introduce him to Fatima. They got along very well. Fatima knows how to lunge. My son saddled her and she stood well. I put the broken bit in her mouth and tested to see if she would give to the bit. She did not seem to have a clue about the bit. Fatima kept biting at the shanks of the broken bit, even though they were short. She kept tossing her head also. I decided to exchange the broken bit with Fancy's trail curb bit. Fatima did not know how to give to the bit, but she did better with the curb bit. She stopped tossing her head and did not bite at the curb bit. My son sat on her and she only stood still. She acted like she had no idea about how to walk off or listen to the bit. But she did not show any mean or sour tendencies.
Fatima would not follow Cowboy and Trigger so, I lead her around for a minute while my son sat on her. We took all of them to the field. A friend rode Fancy to the field, I had to lead them. She was afraid Fancy would not listen to her because she does not know how to ride well.

When we got to the field, my oldest son rode Fancy. Fancy was a little spirited. They ran around the field with Cowboy and Trigger. Fancy was doing a gorgeous trot with a lot of extension. I have no idea how she came about doing that. I have got to learn about these gaits! I am glad I saw that. I was surprised Fatima did not respond to them running around her.
I lead our young friend around the field on Fatima and Trigger. She felt very comfortable with Trigger and she rode him without our assistance. Trigger is a real gentle fellow.
We did see that Fatima has a slight dish face. You can see it a little on her profile photo. Fatima's dish is less than Trigger's dish face. That sounds funny. LOL. Fatima does not have any of the spirit or animation you usually see in Arabians.

We had a family party that evening and then went out of town to roller skate. I did skate, I stayed to myself, I skate slow. I got mowed over by a crazy person. I feel on my left hand. I had to sit out for a long time, (till I stopped shaking) Then I got my gumption up and went at it again. I would skate for a few minutes and go sit back down, because I kept feeling scared after that wreck. My sons were wanting to go knock him down. LOL. I did not allow that, but the thought was funny. My 3 sons! LOL.

Then we went to another place for laser tag and games. I did not know there was a safe place for young peopl

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS: "In seed-time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy." (William Blake)

Sorry I have missed doing Fancy's Perceptions during February holidays. I did not forget the holidays. I am just trying to get this scar tissue to heal. I did not soak my hand Saturday and the area became knotted up again. I don't know what that means. But I will continue to soak and do my therapy. Oh well.

Saturday we came about getting a mare. She is quit a bit underweight. I will try to care for her and get her in better shape. I believe she will make someone a good horse. The man said she is an Arabian. The more I see her, the more I think she is a QH or TB. I plan to ask the vet what he thinks. She might be part Arabian. But I don't see that either.

Are you ready for Spring? Have you had enough Winter? I certainly am loving these lovely days. It feels like spring here! I think it will get cold again here before it warms up for good.

Have a lovely week, I will continue to vote contest each day, and leave a blog and vote for everybody when I can. Depends on my hands.

Happy Valentines vote from Fancy ♥

Sorry I am not visiting you each day right now. I am only trying to heal. I spoke with the nurse. She told me I might have expected too much right now. Like jumping the gun. She said it has not been that much time for healing. I soak my hand in the epsom salts each day. I think it might be helping.

Wednesday and Thursday we had our biggest snow in many years! Yesterday it was snowing so hard I could hardly see Fancy or Trigger and it stopped after 3pm and the sun came out. It was lovely. I wanted to ride Fancy soooo bad. But my hand felt sore and tender. Maybe next time :(

While it snowed I watched Fancy chase Trigger around. Once Trigger was in the stall and Fancy was not even bothering him. She was out playing in the snow.
When the sun came out, we all went outside! Cowboy rode his 4 wheeler and Bandit, my Husky, kept digging through the snow to the ground, like there was some hidden treasure there, he was so funny bouncing around in the snow. In all I think we all enjoyed the soft fluffy snow! Now we will deal with the MUDD.

Enjoy a safe and blessed weekend.

♡ I took Deacon Saturday to Lake Whitney and Rocket went as well. My friend Bill rode Rocket. Rocket was so happy to get out and have a ride. He and Deacon did very well for us. The lake is very far down; the video I posted on FB was of an area that is usually under water! Bill said it has been nearly 20 years sense he has seen the tank we were riding up to! By the time we got back to the trailer it had turned pretty chilly. It turned dark as we were driving home so I had to unload and feed in the dark. Whiskey was very happy to have his herd mates back. Saturday evening the cold & wind blew in with a bang. It was so windy Sunday and cold. Will be this way all week ~ yuk….

Here is a snowy vote for you. Looks like by this morning, we got about 2 to 3 inches of snow!

Have a safe and blessed evening,

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS: “People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy.” - (Anton Chekhov)

Fancy leaves a good night vote.
I was offline mostly yesterday, my right hand was aching. I think I still have to take it slow.

Today in NC was lovely. It was 50 degrees and clear. I spent the day outside with Fancy and my husky, Bandit.

Have a blessed night,
Love Fancy

Happy Saturday! Here is a vote :)
I feed Fancy and Trigger yesterday and today. Today when I went out the back door, Fancy came towards me just like she did months ago. It sure felt good to have her let me know she knows who I am again. And Cowboy loves his Trigger, but he welcomes the break from feeding everyday.

Have a safe and blessed weekend.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS: “Warm weather fosters growth: cold weather destroys it. Thus a man with an unsympathetic temperament has a scant joy: but a man with a warm and friendly heart overflowing blessings, and his beneficence will extend to posterity.” (Hung Tzu-cheng)

Fancy leaves a frigid wintery vote for you.
Hang in there. There are only a few more weeks of winter, Spring is right around the corner!

School let out early Friday and there was no school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We took a spur of the moment trip! We have had no snow here, but we did enjoy a light snow before our return home. I am thankful the snow was light and did not stick on the roads. Cowboy enjoyed a snowball fight with his oldest brother! I have taken all kinds of meds this past week for my winter illness. Now, I am left with this aggravating cough.
I have a doc visit this morning for my left hand. I am sure this will by my last follow up visit for my hands. Yippeeee, More thoughts of spring activities!!!

Fancy and Trigger are feeling frisky. I could not believe Trigger was gallivanting about with Fancy. This is not a sight you see often. Trigger is so pretty when he struts his stuff.

School resumes today, so, here we go ")
You have a blessed day,
Love Fancy & Frances

I'm still here.....
Good morning my friends, I am here to explain my absence. Our household is in turmoil, I'm still trying to get a grip on all of this. The next 7 weeks are going to be quite horrible around here. David's son, Trevor has been diagnosed with cancer, neck and throat, NON SMOKER, he is starting a course of radiation and chemo treatments tomorrow. He has been told that this is a very aggressive cancer and extremely difficult to treat because of the location, they told him he has a very tough battle ahead of him. Trev is handling this well, David, not so much...I chose to remain positive, we have an absolutely state of the art, world class cancer centre in London Ontario, Trevor is young (40's) and he is in excellent health, this was detected early, so even tho it is going to be a rough ride, I need to believe that he does have a few things on his side. Please know that I have missed my time on HC, it has just been a matter of prioritizing, work, chores, and of course support for my David. It tears me apart to see him so worried, the helplessness is getting to me, I am looking into online support groups, to help me understand just what he will be going thru. I am not gone, just stepping back for a bit. Charlie and Sterl May are fine, hating winter, like me, one day at a time, Love you all. Donna Lee

Come visit me, Sterl May & Blossom, Angel Royal Mes Apr 16/02-Dec 3/16 & Angel Sassy Mac Mar 8/95-Aug 8/07.

Good morning vote:)
Soorry about the short blogs. I am dealing with after effects from that flu-like virus I had last week. Among other things, I feel tired, I just don't feel well. The skin on my left hand is still healing, the incision site on my right hand is close to undetectable and it feels normal now.

I dream about all the things I need to do this spring! Stay safe, enjoy your horses, have a nice weekend.
