My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: ride/practice reining, cattle, or just to hang out

How We Met

A friend of ours heard we were looking for a horse for me, and he suggested Holly. Her and I didn't really connect well, but that is me talking. I realized I was wrong when my mom brought her home. We had to sell her because she started to have feet problems. She will always be loved in this family. She now lives in Montana and has a beautiful foal named Peanut.

My brother is here on HC too- Quincy 157076

How are you doing? Wow, it's been a long, long time since I blogged properly on here! This has been the craziest summer ever. I'm always busy and somewhat insane but I think I've taken both to a new level because I've been insanely busy. :)

Without boring you with too many details I'll just say that I've had to take several road trips for work and the past 3 weeks I've been literally working day and night to meet a deadline. But, it's good to keep busy, right? I just miss my nighttime blogging.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Both Prince and Eddie won hotd recently(ish). I was gone when Prince won and in between trips when Eddie won. But it sure was nice to read all the congrats and to see them in the spotlight again.

Pippin is doing is great as are the big boys. I see them once a week to drive and I really like driving a lot. I still wish I could ride but I'm happy that not only do I get to spend time with horses but I get to drive them.

I take Pippin out as much as I can. Not every day like we're used to because I'm so busy but at least several times a week, even if it's just a walk.

Just the other evening I took him out for a cart ride with Melian. He hadn't been out for about a week and was feeling the need to stretch his little legs.

We were going at a nice trot for a mile or so. Once he warmed up properly he wanted to go faster so I set him at a fast canter. That got Melian interested in a race. They love racing each other!

So, she started teasing him by zigzagging back and forth under his nose and he chased her trying to nip at her bony butt.

Suddenly she did a rollback and accidentally rolled back onto her butt. She was SO mad. I think she felt embarrassed and she let out a huge growl. It was plain that she blamed Pippin and she let him know.

That got him going and he took off at an earth shattering gallop. It was the fastest I have ever seen him pull a cart. It felt like it was going to explode into a million tiny parts. Wow, that was fun! He ran like that for over a mile. What a rush!

That had me smiling and he got a nice bounce to his step. I'm sure you agree that there's nothing like a good ride or drive to bring things back into perspective.

Thanks for sticking by me even though I've not been around. I'm getting caught up on my blogs today (I hope) but I'm not sure how often I can blog. Still lots of work to do.

Here's a vote for you and I hope you're having a nice horsey weekend.

PS Thanks to all who voted for Pippin the Amazing Grazers contest. He won first place in the VHS!

PPS I thought that this was cute enough to mention. The other night we were watching Olympic showjumping and Melian saw the horses on the screen. She loves running with the horses and she growled and tried to catch one as he went over the jump. :)

Come visit me, Eddie (In Loving Memory), Prince & Pippin (Gone too soon).

PLEASE vote HOTD today! ♥ Joe #235696 ♥

Q: What did the pony say when he saw his rider carrying a bridle?
A: "Looks like reins a coming!"

Fancy & Trigger have voted for you on this wet and cloudy Carolina day.
My brother wanted to ride today. I wont be out knowing our area is expecting storms.
Have a nice weekend, if you enjoy a horse ride in the bright summer sun, stop by and share it with us.

Has any one noticed the changes occurring on HC? Like the non-horsey ads and some of the designs on a few pages are fresh and different. Looks like we will soon have the same format as DC. I have been trying to learn to get around on DC. The voting and blogging process is very slow for me. That is not good. I will keep trying at it. May be there is something I have to figure out. I want to be ready when the format arrives on HC. I am afraid I will not be able to find HC friends after the changes are made.

Happy TGIF….More about Levy & Daisy. After some time went by and everything being fine with Levy, he started acting like something was wrong. In a blog Shari said ”I don’t know much about horses but I just feel like there is something wrong with Levy” Of course by this time Levy was a part of the family and dearly loved by Daisy all of 7 yrs old. Levy went off his hay and seemed lethargic. Little Daisy would carry a water bucket to him so he could drink without walking too far. Shari had the vet check Levy over and also did some checking on the rescue where they got Levy. As it turns out Levy wasn’t treated very well at the rescue and went long periods of time without food and water. It had taken a toll on the old guy. The vet left instructions for feed and supplements. Shari followed the directions to the letter. Shari is a petite gal about 100 lbs, however she was a Mama bear when it came to Levy & Daisy. She was determined to see Levy through and did whatever it took. I once asked her if she had a cot to sleep on in his stall!! He did get better and Shari started investigating the rescue. I will say Shari may be small but she is a warrior if you mess with her family. Have a wonderful weekend...Love ya all Joey & Crew

Her brother Indy is in the Virtual Horse Show, Show Scenes photos and would love for you to jog on over and vote MWS Zippn By Indy in the Show Scenes for first place. Today was another hot one and I ran out of energy in this heat, so no riding today. Did do showmanship with ms Paige. I have to turn them out early in the am before the 90 plus temps get here and all the bugs that go with it. I did however mow the lawn, well the high weeds that thrive in dry hot weather. LOL! Happy 4th of July!
I was thinking about the first time Shari and I spoke on the phone. We had both been a member of HC for a month or so, and most of the conversation revolved around HC. I remember Shari asked me "what the heck does C/P mean?? I wanted to know how to find my profile #. Neither of us knew so I told Shari " I'll ask Susan" (Sing) Of course Susan knew where to find it and let us know. I think the conversation went something like..oh my gosh Fancy this, and oh my gosh Indy that, did you read about Toby, PF or Navajo, did you see Pippin's video...I think you get the idea:) When Shari & I had almost run my cell phone out of battery I got to talk with Daisy for a minute. I will never forget her little voice saying" I love you Miss Joey" People can say whatever they want about social networking, however I will always be grateful for HC and the wonderful women and horses that have touched my life. Love you guys! Joey & Crew

Fancy & Trigger are here with a Thursday vote. Where has this week slipped away to? Sorry I have been so busy lately. There are all sorts things going on with Little Cowboy & I since joining the horse club and then there are our family activities also. Don't hesitate to leave us a blog, no matter how busy I am, I always read my blogs!

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Cowboy Definitions:
1. Get Gaited - Get going in a hurry. Gait refers to the rate a horse moves, which is far faster, so "get going."
2. Get it in the Neck - Get cheated, misled, bamboozled.
3. Get my/your back up - To get angry. "Don't get your back up, he was only joking."
4. Get Shed of - Get rid of.
5. Get the Mitten - To be rejected by a lover. "Looks like Blossom gave poor Buck the mitten."
6. Get The Wrong Pig By The Tail - To make a mistake in selecting a person for any purpose. "I got the wrong pig by the tail in debating with that particular man.”
7. G'hal - A rowdy girl, reveler or ruffian girl.
8. Gig - Spur a horse.
9. Go Boil Your Shirt - Take a hike, get lost, bug off.
10. Gospel Mill - A church.
11. Gospel Sharp - A preacher.
12. Grab the Apple - Taking hold of the saddle horn to avoid falling off. Also called "grab the nubbin." In either case, this was not something a self-respecting cowboy wanted to be caught doing.
13. Grassed - To be thrown from a horse.
14. Greasy Belly - The camp cook.
15. Gully Washer - A hard rain.

7. Fit - A short return after intermission, a turn, a period or interval. "I almost lost my crops after that fit of cold weather.”

How are you doing? Is it hot there? It's been pretty warm here. Close to 100 degrees for a few days. And then suddenly down to 40 a couple of nights ago. And now back in the 90s. Crazy mountain weather!

Last month I spent so much time blogging for Shadowfax and the month before that I was blogging for Pixie Dust, that I haven't had much time to blog for Pippin! And he's my very own. Oh well, what he doesn't know…

He is looking SO handsome right now. I finally came to a decision to give him a flax seed oil supplement. His coat is glossy and he looks very healthy. I don't give him any type of grain so I think it's a good idea to add the oil. It's only a very tiny bit but it gives him the omega fatty acids that he wouldn't otherwise be getting. Most grain fed horses would get that automatically.

Talking of Shadowfax, I played around with Photoshop last night and made some photo edits of Pippin and Shadowfax together. I think they turned out pretty cool. I also made one of Pippin running in the surf.

I've been wanting to do that for some time. I want to make some of Eddie too. He's just so handsome it would be worth the trouble. I finally posted a photo of his first place win the rodeo parade. That is a HUGE event in our county. Come and check it out!

Well, as usual, it's getting late here. I hope you're all doing fine. I will try to write more than c/p messages but in the meantime I wanted to make the rounds and visit my friends.

Leaving a vote for you.

Thank you so much for your support for Shadowfax last month. It's so much fun to see him in this month's spotlight and I'm sorry I haven't stopped by earlier. The first weekend of June I had to take a long road trip. When I got back DC was changed!

Ever since then I've been scrambling to keep up with work and trying to help with getting DC back on track. It's still not working properly and there are many frustrated DC users. It's nice to be able to blog on HC and CC where everything is still working!

I sincerely appreciate your friendship and support last month. I enjoyed writing my silly fantasy blogs and perhaps sometime in the future, time permitting, I can do that again! Thank you also to everyone for your continued support for Pippin the Amazing Grazers contest. Less than 2 weeks left to vote! I hope we make it!

Leaving a vote for you. I hope to write on my Pippin account later this week. In the meantime, I've made a few more photos of my favourite stallions.

Did any one honor their dad with a father's day ride?
My husband had to work, so Sunday evening Cowboy & I took a ride through the woods & around the neighborhood. On the way home our neighbor was having a party so Cowboy and I rode home & attached the buddy seat to Fancy's saddle and back we went to ride children at the party. There was lots of giggling and squealing going on. Cowboy asked the girls which horse they liked best and the answer was Fancy. Cowboy told them that was because they had not ridden his horse.
We returned home & worked on riding both horses around the house and outbuilding in different directions to keep them tuned into the fact that they will be leaving one another on occasions. That was a good lesson.
Cowboy has tapped into a hidden talent in Trigger. He had Trigger running beside him and halt, just like in the shows. This little horse has some training under his belt. I sure am pleased with Trigger so far. And Little Cowboy is very happy with his little old horsey.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Cowboy Definitions:
1. Brand Artist - A rustler who alters brands with a running iron.
2. Brash - Brittle.
3. Breachy - A term applied to unruly oxen.
4. Bread Jerker - Adam's apple.
5. Brick in One’s Hat - To be drunk. That old man’s got one heck of a brick in his hat.
6. Brisk Up - To come up with life and speed, take an erect or bold attitude.
7. Broke in Two - A horse bucking.
8. Bronc Buster - A cowboy who could tame wild horses. Contrary to popular thinking, not all cowboys could ride just any horse, though most could ride any broken mount. But the bronc buster, also called a "bonc peeler" and a "bronc breaker," was a breed apart. These men, with a special type of "horse sense" earned not only the esteem of the other cowboys, but usually better wages.
9. Broken Wind - A lung infection in horses.
10. Broomtail - A long, bushy-tailed range mare, usually unbroken. Also called a "broomie."

I let the girls out of the corral, again, Thursday. Sadie was a bad girl. She pinned her ears back at Star and actually herded her away from the hay I left out for them. Got to work with her on that. As the sun was setting and the temperature started to cool down, Sadie ran and played around the property. She was so funny. She had a wall of dust following her every step. So dry here. Scruffy, my dog, loves it when Sadie runs. He runs after her and enjoys it until Sadie turns around and chases him. He immediately runs off terrified. Getting kicked once was enough for him. Hugs and a vote.

Trying to teach Sadie to be a lady. I bought a bag of apples for the girls. After cutting several of them in quarters, I took a bowl full out to the corral. Of course, Sadie met me before I went in. While dividing the apple slices, between them, I had to correct Sadie's aggressiveness. She pinned those ears back and got in between Star and me, not wanting to share. She gets no apples until she backs down and shares. Hard to teach her that. All she sees is food and wants it all to herself. Horsey day tomorrow. Hugs and a vote.

We have definitely been busy here. Little Cowboy is out of school now and he is ready to ride.

I guess where ever Trigger lived in the past was not a happy place, because Friday when Triggger saw the children, he ran away. But Cowboy & I caught him. He never acted up one bit after we caught him. He just didn't want to get into it to begin with. LOL.
Fancy on the other hand, seems to love all the attention she gets from the children. I wish she would tell Trigger that people can be kind.

Saturday's trip to Stone Mountain St Park was wonderful! The first thing we saw when we arrived was a black snake sun bathing in the road. To my liking, we did not see anymore of his kind. I loved the wooden bridges there. There were boulders long and wide as a queen size bed, maybe bigger. We came upon a pretty little doe standing all alone. I was surprised Fancy only looked at her and kept walking. The springs were clear and pretty until Fancy stirred the water with her pawing and taught the other horses to do the same :)

Sunday evening we rode around the neighborhood. Little Cowboy especially loved when his older brother decided to take a ride with him. My older son rode Fancy. He did not think she would listen to him, but she gave him no trouble.

Hope you enjoyed a great weekend also, stop by to tell us about it!

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Cowboy Definitions:
1. Black-eyed Susan - A six-gun.
2. Black-Leg - A gambler.
3. Black Snake - A long whip.
4. Black Spot - Shade.
5. Blackstrap - Gin and molasses
6. Black Water - Weak coffee.
7. Blarney - Stories, flattery, tall tales, idle discourse.
8. Blather - Impudence. "I’ll have none of your blather.”
9. Blatherskite - A blustering, noisy, talkative fellow.
10. Blazes - Euphemism for hell or the devil.

Nothing going on here but the mudd :)
I hope you are enjoying Fancy's Perceptions, Cowboy Definitions. I find these old time words from the past quite amusing. Have you heard any of these words used on western shows or heard any person using them in conversation? I can imagine how some of these words were used. I have heard some on western shows!

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Cowboy Definitions:
1. Big Pasture - The penitentiary
2. Big Sugar - Ranch owner.
3. Bill Show - A Wild West show. Probably derived from the names of the two leading show promoters - William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody and Gordan William "Pawnee Bill" Lillie.
4. Bilk - Cheat.
5. Biscuit - Saddle horn.
6. Biscuit Roller - The cook.
7. Biscuit Shooter - The cook.
8. Bishop - An appendage to a lady's wardrobe, more commonly called a bustle.
9. Bite the Ground - To be killed.
10. Bit House - A cheap saloon.

I'm taking Austin, today, to see 'Snow White and The Huntsman'. More sprinkler time, with the girls, Thursday. Sadie wasn't crazy about getting her face wet. You can tell by the way she pinned her ears in the picture. Going to try to get her use to it. Hugs and a vote.

I have to clean up while Fancy & Trigger eat grain to keep Fancy from raiding Trigger's bucket. At first he would run, but soon he learned that I am shooing Fancy away. Now, when Fancy comes towards his grain, he will look at me pitifully. I wish you could see his funny pitiful face. It is so funny.
Trigger sure has come around in body condition. He looks like a different horse now. All shiny and finally gaining weight.

Are you enjoying more horse activities this time of year? We sure are!

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Cowboy Definitions:
1. Between Hay and Grass - Neither man nor boy, half-grown.
2. Big Augur - Ranch Owner.
3. Big Bug - Important person, official, boss. "He's one of the railroad big bugs."
4. Big Figure - To do things on on a large scale.
5. Big Fifty - A .50 caliber Sharps rifle used by professionals for buffalo hunting. It was 16 pounds unloaded, with three-quarter inch, 120-grain black powder cartridges loaded for differing ranges.
6. Biggest Toad in the Puddle - The most important person in a group.
7. Biggity - Large, extravagant, grand, hauty.
8. Big Guns - Men of importance, great people.
9. Big Jump - Death.
10. Big Nuts to Crack - A difficult or large undertaking.

Austin helped me put the misting system up. He went out to the corral first, carrying the hammer, nails and the misting system. Sadie had to check out everything he had. she knocked the box of nails off the corral panel. Kept Austin busy. He said she was like a kid, getting into everything. I let her and Star out of the corral, so we could work in peace. We got it up, and it works great. Just not good in the wind. Will be great on those hot, windless days. Since Sadie doesn't like getting her face wet, she didn't stay in the sprinkler too long. Just off and on. I missed out on some good pictures. I took the camera out too late. Or maybe she knew I wanted pictures of her playing in the sprinkler? Anyway, I posted, what I was able to take, on the bottom of Sadie's page. Star loved it, too. I gave them lots of carrots and Star even ate a popsicle. Sadie didn't like it. Hugs and a vote.

I was so tired last night, didn't have enough in me for my online activities. Well rested now and here I am!

Buttercup, Trigger, & Fancy finally got a photo together as we left for our 2nd trial ride. About 3 years has passed since I have seen these wooded trails. It felt so good to be in the places where I learned to ride. So many memories there! Now my Little Cowboy is riding the same trails with me!
Have you found yourself riding in the same trails as your parents or the ones that helped you learn to ride? Or do your children now ride the trails that you learned to ride on?
At one area we were beside the train tracks & here comes 'THE TRAIN'. Fancy wanted to run away, but she listened to me instead. I did keep her slightly facing it so she could see it. And she relaxed slowly. She still does not like trains, but this was very good for her to see that it was not going to hurt her.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Cowboy Definitions:
1. Beliked - Liked; beloved.
2. Bellyache - Complain.
3. Belly Cheater - A cook.
4. Belly Robber - The cook.
5. Belly Through the Brush - Dodge the law.
6. Belly Wash - Weak coffee.
7. Belvidere - A handsome man.
8. Bend an Elbow - Have a drink. "He's been known to bend an elbow with the boys."
9. Bender - Initially referred to a spree or a frolic. Later, and now, also used to describe someone on a drinking binge.
10. Best Bib and Tucker - Wearing your best clothes. "There's a dance Saturday, so put on your best bib and tucker."

Hi Hollywood, here's a vote for ya. Today was Paige's day off. But I did do showmanship with her and then turned her loose in the indoor. She was kinda interested in the big ball, but not really. Walked around and didn't offer to jog or run. But did she kick up her heels in the pasture latter on! Indy got a good workout today. he was very good, I think he figures he better start to lope right or he'll be totally out of a job! LOL! Got them all out in between thunder storms. Love ya, Marion and the blondies.

Wow, you know it is dry, when it rains for 3 days, and you have puddles of water in the morning, but by 3PM, it is dry enough to ride. Woopie, that is what happened to me today. Mom said it was dry and the sun came out a bit, so out we went, she is really getting into this dressage stuff, she brought out this "stick" it is a lot longer than the crop she usually carries, she gave me a little swat with it, it reaches different spots, and it woke me up!!! She said something about spurs, I don't think I like the sound of that!! Sterl is so lucky!!Tomorrow Mom has a therapy apt, for her arm and on Tuesday the equine nutritionalist is coming to see us, It is mostly for Sterly 'cause she has Cushing's, Mom just likes to make sure we are getting the right feed. So she might not be on for a couple of days. Talk soon, Donna Lee, Left a vote.

Come visit me, Sterl May & Blossom, Angel Royal Mes Apr 16/02-Dec 3/16 & Angel Sassy Mac Mar 8/95-Aug 8/07.
