Thank you all sooo much for Scout's HOTD!!! I was so happy and surprised yesterday when I came on HC and saw him in the HOTD window. I thought that he might win HOTD sometime, but I had never guessed it would be so soon! Thanks again, it really made my day!

Yesterday Ethan and I took Dakota and Scout for their first ride together. They both did great, they don't seem to mind each other anymore. I still have to feed them separately though because Scout gets grass pellets and sweet feed and if I let them eat together Dakota will eat all of it and he doesn't need it. Scout just loves being around Dakota, he follows him everywhere! His previous owner said that she used to have a pony that was friends with Scout and that he would think he was in 7th heaven if he got to be around another pony and he does! They will still squeal at each other once in a while but it seems like they are getting to be friends.

Does anyone know what is wrong that the videos aren't showing up on the video page? I uploaded a video of Misty last week and it still wasn't there this week so I uploaded another of Dakota and Scout and that one hasn't showed either. Has anyone else been having this problem?

Left a vote!

Does anyone remember reading last month, about a nationwide Ride to Remember Veterans during Veteran's Day weekend, Nov. 10-11, 2012? How would you guys like to have our own HorseChannel ride in honor of Veteran's Day? We can chose one day that we all will ride on, even if it is only for a few minutes or just to sit on the horse during the Veteran's holiday. Then we could share our pics from that day and share our story of the day. If you agree would Sunday November the 11 be ok for our ride date?

November is a time of thanks. Thanks should be part of our every day lives all year long. Let us be thankful for our friends and loved ones. Let us be kind one to another. Cruelty has no place among true friends.

Hi, left a vote. From what I have read I'm not the only one that had trouble with HC, I have not even been able to log on until late this afternoon. It makes your realize how dependent we are on this place. I can't imagine not being able to reach all of you. First week of work after 2 weeks off was horrible, I'm still taking physio for the arm. Small improvement, they keep telling me that re-injured scare tissue takes longer to heal, just great. Talk soon, Love Donna Lee PS, the guys are fine....

The Gypsy Vanner, Gypsy Horse, Gypsy Cob, Irish Cob, Tinker Travelers Horse and various other names are all used to describe this amazing horse. However, the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society established the first registry to give the horses a name and an organization to track the closely guarded, original bloodlines, of the Romany Gypsy breeders. The name of the Registry was carefully selected not only to identify the people that created this magical breed, but to acknowledge the horse’s history as well. The Gypsy Vanner Horse must possess a certain look and meet a clear conformation standard, ensuring that we may reproduce the same quality horse that the first Romany Gypsy breeders dreamed of.
For hundreds of years the nomadic people known as gypsies have traveled the roads of Europe and the United Kingdom in beautiful decorated living wagons. To maintain this wandering way of life, they created an extraordinary breed of horse. It had to have enough endurance and strength to pull the heavy family wagon, the ability to subsist on whatever grazing could be found along the side of the road and an extremely calm, willing temperament. The result , after hundreds of years of selective breeding , is a beautiful, powerful and supremely gentle Gypsy Vanner Horse.

We had snow yesterday! It snowed almost all morning but melted as soon as it hit the ground.Sierra got a pretty bad cut on her hind leg and it swelled up quite a bit. I didnt do very much with the horses yesterday because it was a very cold and blustery day. Poor Dakota is without a shed( he has been without one ever since his old one got wrecked by the toronado).Thankfully my dad ordered him a new shed and it should be delivered by next week sometime. Dakota is a tough little guy but I know he will enjoy having a shed again.

Question of the day: Have you ever had to go to the hospital or get stitches for a horse related injury?

This is the second time I have had to get stitches for an injury caused by a horse. The first time was when Dakota bucked me off on the driveway and a really sharp rock made a deep gash on my nose.

Have a horsy day and once again thank you all so much for all the votes and support!

The extraordinary environmental conditions of the Arabian Peninsula demanded the evolution of a superior equine athlete of exceptional intelligence and uncommon courage. Strength, fortitude and tenacity of constitution were paramount if any horse were to survive life as a warhorse on the rugged terrain. Swiftness and endurance were vital to the success of raids, and only those Arabians with the best combination of these nearly polar attributes were fortunate enough to escape the dangers of battle and earn the respect of their masters. The story is told of the great loyalty these horses would exhibit to their masters. They would be trained as young two-year-olds to respond to a bell, and then they would be left in the desert heat with no water until they became very thirsty. They would then be released near a body of water and right before the horses would reach the water the owner would ring the bell. The horses that would respond and come even in adversity would be chosen as the best and later would be bred to pass on their great loyalty to their offspring. Vitality of spirit and courage were also essential to success in battle; this was to be tempered by intelligence and kindness as both a willing mount and as a large domesticated mammal forced to live in close coexistence with the spartan, mobile life of his keeper.

Question of the day: If you had the choice of two free horses, one gorgeous but completely wild, and one of them very ugly, but well trained, wich would you choose?

Thanks for all the support, enjoy your weekend, and don't forget to vote Dakota for your Nov. HOTM!

Hey guys, how was your weekend? Did you get to do any riding? Yesterday I didnt do any riding, I just did some groundwork with my guys. They are just starting to get their winter woolies, and not too soon either, it has been very chilly and and windy for the past few days, I even saw a few snowflakes yesterday! Well I said I would have a question for you guys, so here it is: If you were to be able to go to a tack store of your choice and pick out one item out of the entire store for free, what would you choose? I would definently get a new saddle as both of mine are pretty old. I look forward to hearing your answers! Maria, Dakota N the girls

Susie is home now! We picked her up from LSU yesterday. The wound looks good. She has to remain stalled for the next 10 days. We need to change her bandages every three days. We bring her back in 10 days for a recheck. The preliminary tests do not show signs of pythium but he said tests are still pending. So not sure yet. The herd was happy to see Susie. They are feeling a little left out because we are keeping them outside and Susie gets to stay in the barn. She is not a happy camper because she wants to be with the other horses. Hope all continues to go well. Leaving a great big thank you vote for ya.

HISTORY OF THE WELSH MOUNTAIN PONY Life was far from easy for those early Welsh ponies. They faced elimination when Henry VIII decreed that all horses under 15 hands be destroyed. Somehow some survived! Before mechanization, they became popular all across Great Britain doing heavy work on the small farms. As well they provided valuable transportation pulling sizeable loads and as riding and pack animals. They served their masters faithfully and displayed a strength and stamina that many horses twice their size couldnt match. Because of this they were in great demand to haul the coal out of the depths of the mines. Fortunately the lot of the present day Welsh Mountain ponies has changed to one of relative ease. Please support my Welsh Mountain pony Dakota during his Nov. HOTM run, and to those of you that are already supporting him a huge thank you!! Leaving votes for everyone! Maria, Dakota N the girls

Early history of the Welsh Mountain pony.
The Welsh Mountain pony, one of the earliest established breeds, has roamed the mountains and wild regions of Wales for over a thousand years. Descriptions of these ponies from the time of Julias Caesar( when many where shipped to Rome to take part in chariot racing) tell of the beautiful head with huge, bold eyes and small pricked ears. Subjected to the rugged terrains of the Welsh landscape and often severe weather conditions, the Welsh Mountain pony not only survived for centuries, it thrived! Thus has evolved a breed world-renowned for its intelligence, strength, soundness and endurance. Welsh Mountain ponies are justly recognized as one of the finest foundations for horse breeding in the world. GROWTH OF THE BREED IN AMERICA While Welsh ponies were imported to America as early as the 1880's the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America was not established as a breed registry until 1907. Interest in the breed dropped during the depression years , but through the combined efforts of breeders, particularly those in the East, participation in shows and fairs continued. By the 1950's the numbers of members grew, more ponies were imported and interest in increased dramatically. Over the next few decades Welsh became the fastest growing breed in America. Registered Welsh ponies and cobs can be found in every state and also in Canada. To date, over 45000 Welsh ponies and cobs have been registered. USES OF THE VERSATILE WELSH PONY The Welsh breed is ideal for the growing child and has the spirit and endurance to challenge an adult. Today Welsh ponies and cobs can be found competing in nearly every discipline...hunters,driving, dressage, combined training, combined driving, English and Western pleasure and heavy harness. Please support my Welsh Mountain pony Dakota during his Nov. HOTM run! Maria, Dakota N the girls.

A vote in Memory of Joanna Wicke and her beloved Pixie Dust. I did not have the pleasure of knowing these two but I feel the love that all of you have for them.

It was so hot here in Central Texas yesterday. It registered 101 at my house-WOW the news said it was 95 but felt like 98. Well they were not on the hill where we live-lol I am glad most of you are having cooler weather to enjoy.

Last month we finally got the4 Acers we have been waiting on for years. Cliff has been working so hard on setting the posts and getting all areas ready to put up the gates. He also ran the T-post sand hot wire! He is almost ready to run the barbless wire around the whole area. From there we have to have the land shredded and turned under. It is my understanding we have to then plant what type of grass we want. Cliff knows all of what we need. Then we have to wait and let the grass establish it’s self before we can ever let them out to enjoy-what a process! It is nice to know we have it and one day the herd can enjoy it!

I will be off line 9/25 and be back 9/26-here is a vote for you
