How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

Just be glad you only received a few inch of new snow. We get that much each night, but snow helps insulate the ground.
I love the feel of a wood fire, it makes the whole house feel warmer than gas, oil or even what we have hot water heat.
So Mo is being a stinker, maybe he know he can come into the house.
What a nice surprise this morning after it started getting light out, Mother Nature, Jack Frost, and Mr. Sun really outdid them selves....looked like a Christmas card, sparkling new snow, frost on all the trees, and actually "above" zero. Was below when we went to bed at 10, must have warmed up threw the night. Snowed a couple of inches. I went and left a pattern of circles all over the lawn. Felt like making a snow angel. Our drive to Phillips was so pretty too, 20 miles of just frosted trees and sunshine.
Going to bake tomorrow for our Christmas and birthday get together on Saturday the 20th. Also that evening will get together with my brother and sisters for Mom's 92 birthday. We all will play Bingo with white elephant gifts. Everyone cheats and trys to make the others win bingo. Lots of fun, but some of those gifts you don't dare just open up....never can tell what someone wrapped up. Most are very funny. Mom enjoys it too, I think she even trys to get bingo.

Lol, well, I've been riding BJ bareback mostly because it would take all my ride time to mess with tack (dang short daylight), and yeah, I'm wanting to improve my balance. And also because I feel like he can feel the cues better at the teaching phase. The bareback rides are very short, maybe only 15 mins or so, again, because they're usually at the end of the day and I'm racing sunset.
Dee usually starts shedding in Feb and doesn't finish until May, which seems an awful long time. But it isn't consistently warm until late april, so I guess that makes sense. I have no idea why she might be starting in the middle of the coldest January we've seen in years. The other horses usually start shedding a couple weeks after she starts.
Sounds like you got a lot done out and about. Does that mean you can stay home for a day or two now? I'll be running today, got algebra, grocery shopping, and Madison's appt today. That'll take up the whole day, so no riding today. But hope you have a great tuesday.

Hope this snowy cold weather does not reach you, I think it is heading to upper Michigan. Door County got 20 some inches of new snow, we did not get anywhere near that much, which is good.
Drs both told Mikey that this is a major surgery, and he is not quite not ready for it. Has to watch his INR and blood pressure, not sure if it was just high that day, because his other dr. had just taken him off one of his blood pressure meds.
Still below zero this morning, but got up to 8 or so, warming up a bit each day, but then chance of snow. Snowed nearly all day, but real light. Tomorrow Mike has to take his hearing aid, up to Phillips, in the VA office, woman from Wausau comes there every month. Save us a trip in the cold months.

Hi & a vote,
Friday I went to Rocky's barn with Blue and dropped off Rocky's supplement at the barn. Rocky at least got a few apple wafer treats! Blue and I went on a therapy dog visit to the nursing home over the long weekend too. Daniel (the orange cat) went to the vet today because I was thinking he had an infected tooth, and I was right. He is on antibiotics now and will have tooth extracted Tues, Jan. 23, along with teeth cleaning. He's eating fine and not seeming in much pain, so hoping I caught it early. That's about all going on here.

Come visit me, Rocky (the blue-eyed wonder horse), Comet (has new home) & Cowboy.

Glad the sun and maybe no wind made the day doable despite being so cold. We only made it to 38 for a high, but same thing, sun and no wind made it pretty nice.
I'm not sure, but I think Dee may have started shedding yesterday! I feel like she should rethink that decision. She's always the first to start, but usually not till Feb.
I did hop on BJ for our bareback liberty practice yesterday. Maybe one day the practice will pay off and I won't spend the whole ride praying he doesn't spook and I wind up on the ground, lol. I really have an awful seat, but it's too much fun not to try.

Drs are both specialist at Fairview UN of Minn. I have to talk to Mikey in person to find out more or Jennifer. Calling for 90% chance of snow today, rather have had the snow than the -17 and a terrible wind. My sister Debbie and hubby Gary were up to his Dad's 94th birthday, and because of the snow wanted us and my sister Kathy, (finally home from DC) to meet at Mom's early, so we were there by 10. Kat brought me 2 Breyer horses from a Goodwill and a pair of boots....just my size, if I can get my foot in than they are my size, but these did fit. Chance, her dog, wanted to leave with us. She said he will moop around now for a few days.
After we got back home, we were going to take Dominic home. He had a 21 school wrestling meet in Ladysmith, he took 3rd in his weight divison. For that many schools, that is great. But his dad said he would cut us another truck load of firewood, cleaning up around his deer stand. We made it freezing cold and wind, but by then temps were up to a -3. Did chores early tonight, around 3-330, geese/duck and Cindy Lou were more than willing to go in. Tonight it should start a very slow warm up. Was -21 threw the night.

It's a good thing Honey tried out the driveway before you did, gave you a heads up. Little Sobe did the same thing on the steps the other day, went slip-sliding down them and let me know I needed to be careful.
I managed to stay home all day yesterday, no errands, yay. It was pretty but very muddy, so the only horsey thing I did was trim Allie's hinds and get some nasty tangles out of her mane. Gotta work on Dee's and Cinni's today. There's nothing like rain and a little wind to tangle their manes literally overnight. The rest of the day was assorted chores.

Mikey talked to 2 different drs, each with different ideas, one said let "it" go for a bit and other wants to put a plug in...not sure what the "it" is, will find out. When he had heart surgery before, they repair/replaced some vavles, and the blood leaks around one valve.
Remember your logic about the cold and horse's brains. I just read this on a posting about Horses Health....
"When my horses get cold, they lose brain cells. They act really dumb. Not sure how to explain it. Just real flighty and Bully which they know better."
Running late tonight, so just leaving a cote and short comments, and of course it is freezing cold again tonight...-19 this morning and barely made 0, but 0 on the plus side. :)

I can and do vaccinate the horses for rabies, and I hear I can do the dogs too but it wouldn't be honored in the event of an "incident". Still, my dogs never go anywhere, so I might. Have to think about it.
Yep, we got almost 2 inches of rain too and we weren't even hit with the heaviest of the storm. A lot of wind behind it and the temps dropped quickly from 60s to 31 this am. I had to get a new deicer for the water trough as the last one's plug came apart when I unplugged it, but it's a lifesaver when it's below freezing.
The coolest thing happened yesterday. My sister in law wanted me to pick up some lunch for her while I was out and about, and when I went in, I ran in to a friend I haven't seen in over 15 years! She has since divorced and remarried, has a horse again and likes to trail ride. So you know what we want to cook up. She says her mare is super easy going and loves trails, the perfect trail partner for my terrier-in-a-horse's-body, Allie. We had a lot of fun catching up.
Well, looks like the rain and snow have moved way north of almost everybody. Be careful in the ice, stay warm, and have a great saturday.

Boy, Mother Nature really is mad at someone in your area!! Now rain, you sure do not need that on top of the frozen ground. Be careful just walking around, and of course Honey will act like any kid and so sliding and think its fun.
As King Jax, he should "order" better weather, but I would rather have this stuff now, than spring. Let Mother Nature get it out of her system. I like that 70 days until spring that sounded good.
Where the snow was packed down, like the drive way it was icey, but most of the snow was just like "snowball packing snow", then we got new snow on top of that, not like the 6-8 but more like 3-4, hard to tell, because the winds just blew all night. Hard crust on top of the snow now, most places I could walk on top. Was a -8 at 5 tonight. Animals all tucked in for the night. I think the big Cinnamon doe likes being in such a open pen. She comes right up to me when I give her more feed, not that she needs more in her pans, but this morning she got a slice of bread and a carrot, plus had to give her warm water. Each day they get treats, already have their oatmeal and Cheerios mixed for them.

Flooding is not a good thing. Hard with all this rain. No place for it to drain. Glad you and Honey got your walk in. Spa day sounds good. I bet they enjoyed it. Our roof and ceil is metal. With this warm weather it is sweating. Can you believe that. So with the water is dripping, I haven't been able to groom Jax. Don't want him to get wet. No way of making sure he will be dry. With the temps dropping just don't want to take a change. There is so much mud and with ice under it all turn out time is in the arena. Took his blanket off so he could roll. Nope just walked around and trotted. He seems to be handling stall time well. Be careful with the ice coming in. Vicki & Big Jax

I know what you mean, when I was out working in 63 degrees the other day, you'd think it would've felt like a heat wave, but with no sun, I still wanted a light coat. I was surprised it didn't feel warmer after getting used to that cold the week before. But glad you were able to crank up the tractor and get some work done.
I drove truck-truck to work yesterday and it occurred to me, that was the first time I've driven it in the rain. We've had rain since I got it (though obviously not much), but guess it's just never worked that I was in the truck at the time.
I'm supposed to go over to my friend's house today. They ordered dog vaccines so we're going to split the price and do our own dogs (all except rabies). Wish we could do that too, it's a pain to get all 4 dogs to the vet, and one of them gets so nervous that he poops all over the place.
We got light rain/drizzle all day yesterday which was nice, and I hear intermittent rain out there this am. I'm curious to see how much is in the rain gauge. Of course, it'll make feeding a damp affair, but that's okay, and i probably won't get horse time today unless it really clears off later. But hope you have a good friday.

How long do the 3 bales last you?? We have not had much sun either, hiding for sure. All the fresh air has made me tired tonight, since have a few things to get done, but maybe they will wait.
Hope your weather does not turn that cold for you. Horses and animals seem to beable to adjust, (alot better than people), if give the chance.
It rained....yep from -20 to rain, all threw the night, nothing hard, just could hear it. snow was mussy this morning. Foggy, but not any snow until about 10, rain and snow mixed, schools were closed, but things did not get bad until afternoon, temps went from 33-30 to down around 7-8 just like that, winds really picked up. Tomorrow it is suppose to be down below zero.
Hope everyone stays warm and safe.

Diesel is about 2.50-2.60 here. The sad thing is, I put way more miles on the car, close to 20,000 a year. Oi! Driving the truck some helps the car out, poor thing. Speaking of truck, I used it to haul limbs and grape vines to the burn pile yesterday (been pruning a bit) and put it into 4wd for the first time. I've been a chicken about doing that cause it was sticky about coming out of 4wd when I test drove it, but it did good. Also got my weather tech mats for it the other day and I really like them.
It got to 63 here yesterday, can you believe! Rode BJ for a few mins bareback, and he was good, as usual. I think probably I ride differently than you since I don't show, I don't have to put my horses in a frame or worry about them driving under from behind. I used to only need spurs to help with lateral movements, but the QHs are old enough and have those figured out so well that I don't need spurs for them anymore either. I would probably not be safe with spurs anymore, lol.
Well, off to work. Hoping to see some rain today and/or tomorrow, but we'll see. Hope you have a great thursday

Of course I needed it last week. But I know have it when needed. Just need to buy a new waterproof lightweight. The one I have is getting near end of its live. Hoping we don't get the rain and freezing part. Will be nice if it gets as warm as they say. However by Monday back to the 20's. Vicki & Big Jax

Yep chicken noodle soup on a cold day sounds good! I like my crock pot too. I cook a lot of beans, chili and roast in my crock pot.~~~~~~~~
Today is nice but tomorrow night is will start turning cold again. We will need to put the blankets back on the horses. The freezing temps will be around the next four or five days. I worry about these quick changes in temperatures too. I have four cats that I kinda adopted...so I had to put in a kitty door so they could come in from out the cold. We had a stray mama cat that had three kittens in April. We have been feeding them ever since, so they just hung around here. The kitty door is in the wash room, so we keep them in there. I am getting the two males fixed on the 25th. Then next month the two females will be fixed. Don't want anymore kittens. Stay warm everyone! I can't wait till spring! lol

You do have good luck where deals are concerned, glad you made out well with the truck and the next oil change is free. That IS a big savings! I need to get busy and find a place to do my oil changes. Got a couple 1000 more miles before it needs it, but that'll come up before I know it.
So glad you're getting above freezing now. It was a little slick in spots on the drive in yesterday am, but not sure we dip much below freezing at night the rest of the week (60 by friday!).
Well, lol, you talked me into it, I'll leave Allie in the bosal as long as she'll honor it. I love the presignal it gives, kinda like a good shanked bit. When the horse is listening, you don't even have to make contact. I've also yet to wear spurs with Allie, she hates leg contact as it is, and she's learning to start sidepassing just off my shift in weight. As she gets further in her training, I may need them, but so far, I havent.
Well, hope you have a great wednesday.

Looks like your temperatures are coming up nicely. Sounds like good news about your truck's oil changes, even that senior discount can come in handy. Every dollar helps.
Some place far to the south in Wisconsin are calling for rain, we just have a winter storm warnings, can get up to 10-12 inches or 1...big difference. Hope its done by Thursday, Mikey has heart specialist appointment in Minneapolis at Fairview, not sure to find out what they are doing or actually do something.
Today was warm but not like yesterday, I seen 28 around 1, when Mike got home from funeral, the VFW sends its members when it is a veteran's funeral. Cloudy most of the day. Cleaned out another rabbit cage, and somehow forgot to close the door correctly, so tomorrow I will have to catch him. He friendly, so will not take long.....I hope. Cleaned up in chicken coop and put down fresh bedding, have one of my rabbits loose with the chickens. If we have 2 more days of nice weather I will have all the rabbit cages cleaned out.

Hope today is warmer and drier. We wound up with a little light drizzle late in the afternoon but it had warmed up above freezing by then. It was wwird, wasn't until yesterday you could see your breath, I guess the air has been too dry.
Yeah, I figure no real reason to rush getting into a bit. I think she is getting things well enough now that I won't have to pull on her mouth alot, but no rush. If I ever show her, it would be in little fun shows, and they don't care what you ride them in. Can't believe she'll be 5 this spring!

News of the weather does not look so good out in your area. My sister, Kat, who is in DC for Christmas, said the winds are just terrible.
So Mo is a chunky monkey... :) Glad to hear that Honey and Mo are getting along. Sadie loves to chase the cats, but if they do not run, she doesn't at all. They eat with her, she is not food aggressive, but if they run, zoom she chases. Not sure what she would do if she did catch one. Usually, they just start rubbing on her, and take all the fun out of the chase.
Hope some of this weather reaches you, but would not mid if it stuck around for a while. Hey, it got up to 33 and bright sunshine.
Took my Mom to Ladysmith, first time she was out since 12 of December. We were going so told her to ride along, she seemed to enjoy it. My sister Kat, (Chance's Mom) said they were staying in DC longer, (had planned on starting back today, Monday), because of the sleet & rain tomorrow. Both her girls are teachers, and pipes are broke at school....500 and some students and only 2 working bathroom stalls. So kids were sent home. She might head back on Wednesday....or spring time which ever comes first. :)

Yay, sun and no gale force winds? Nice! How did dingbat's shed hold up in that wind? Glad it didn't wind up on your deck.
Glad Mo is content to sleep inside on these cold nights.
I'm still riding Allie in the bosal, I really like it on all my horses. She's probably just now getting to where I could switch her to a snaffle, but I need to get her teeth checked first.
I rode her out in the pasture yesterday and she did well out there too. We loped a little and she was real good about letting me steer her (gotta dodge all the fire ant hills, which is a challenge). She seemed to understand the step around better yesterday after sleeping on it. We're still only doing one step and only to the left right now until she gets it pretty good, then I'll introduce going to the right and add more steps as she's ready. Might be turning into a handy little horse (except for her half-acre stop, lol). I was really happy with her. Trimmed her fronts afterward and it was dark by then.

I know my outdoor girl is starting to spend more and more time inside. May have to do with her getting older. Heat wave it got up to 8 today. At least I have got a lot done. Saddle and bridle are ready for spring. Hopefully I get to ride before then. My outdoor girl (cat) went out and couldn't decide to stay out or come back in. With Mike gone to help Tristan on his frozen water pipes, I got on computer a bit early today. Had to send Maya a message, so leaving some early comments and votes.
Wow!! Suppose to hit a high in the 20's and that is not below either, Mr. Sun decided to make his show up to take the credit, never mind all the praying I do. But then someone had to invite those cold nasty winds "again". Mother Nature can not let some things alone. Hope to get a lot of things done outside without icey cold fingers.
Mike's Mom had a saying, "The South end of a North wind, is colder than the North wind itself." Today I believe it. The few inches of snow we receive is all piled up in the pen where the geese and ducks are. Been giving Cindy Lou warm oatmeal (very wet) with raisins to help her get more water. She doesn't seem to drink enough, but maybe goats don't.

Yes, Honey, you ARE Mo's heating blanket, lol. Did he come in last night?
I threw my to-do list to the wind yesterday and trimmed BJ's hinds and then rode Allie in the riding ring, and she was really good. Did a lot of loping and she stayed calm and let me steer her. To settle her down afterward, I started working on stepping around with the front end (like the first step of a spin), and I got a good lateral step from her a few times. She might be finally growing up! Had a ton of fun.

So Mo is the house guest again, that's good, cats do not have the most fat on them Of course they can just start their little motors, turn up the heater, and keep warm.
Our wind was wicked today, even worst than worst.
So in a few days you will beable to just flip your calendar pages, and it will be spring....or at least feel a bit more like spring, now that sure was a nice thought. Too bad Mother Nature doesn't think the same way we do.
I hate watching the news about the weather, it seems so bad. It got up to 12 above today, but oh, that nasty old wind made it feel like -20 or better. Horses were sleeping next to the hay bales like little wind breaks. Tomorrow should be better. Mike has to go down to Eau Claire, to help with Tristan's frozen pipe, the handy guy, Chad, said he thinks there is a broke pipe, and was thawing things out, to see better. Hope it is not too bad. Glad you're gonna wait till Sunday to finish moving snow, sounds like today will be way too cold.
Loved the pic of Mo and Honey snuggled together. They sure have come a long way in their relationship! Did Mo stay in all night?
Dee is already prancing around more, so it was evidently wormer that she needed. Don't know why she's so prone to getting them. Even Allie is keeping her weight this year (she usually looses some in the winter), it's just Dee who has dropped some. If all I had to do was to keep QHs fat, I'd have it made.
We're getting into the high 30s now, so whatever we break or thaw out in the am stays thawed in the afternoon, which is nice. It's supposed to warm up alot after sunday.
Well, hang in there and stay warm.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

A Vote for You!!
I really do not mind the snow and cold, I enjoy taking care of the animals, but the only thing I do not like is not having a warmer spot for everyone. I have no way to cover every little crack or spot that wind can come into the back of the shed. Horses and steers have a nice quset hut, made of tin so inside is warm as long as the sun is shining. They have luke warm water and all the hay their belly's can hold. But the rabbits have full cages of hay they can burrow into, corn, pellets, veggie scraps plus water twice a day. I like to do things in the up stair on cold winter days, still working on a scrapbook for my grandaughter up to age 3 or 4 now, but she will be 15 on the 27th. I like going threw things I have not seen for a while, looking threw our wedding cards ..... lots of funny ones. I guess I think about what I want to do come spring, but I am always busy. Chores do not take long, because I do them in shifts, my fingers get cold fast. It will be spring before you know it, start thinking of what sort of show clothing you would like, or what new goals you will have this spring and summer.

Come visit me, Mistic, Willow & Whisper.

I hope you are bundled up. Frostbit happens fast. Well it was a day of being inside. Winds up to 50 mph. So I baked a pie and did laundry. City knocked on the door. One of my neighbors has frozen pipes. So they did a reading, told me to keep one of my cold water facets running. Told him no problem, I know the drill. Been here 25 years and this is about the 4th time. Better than frozen pipes. Put tape over the facet I am leaving on. That way I don't turn it off by accident. Same weather for tomorrow. Think I'll make mac and cheese. Lexie called said Jax is doing good. Nice and warm and calm. I thanked her for going above and beyond being a trainer. I really do appreciate her and Mike. Come visit me, Big Jax.

So embarrassed. Took the truck to the Dodge House today, the damn tailgate was locked. Scott and I spent nearly an hour working on it a week ago Sat, including trying to unlock it. I have never locked the tailgate, so have no idea what happened. At least didn't have to spend any money getting it fixed, but feel like an idiot.

Come visit me, Mystic, Cisco, Angel Meg, Bo (RIP) and Jazz & Angel Nugget.
