How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

The rain and winds have arrived. Snow later today, maybe. I hate this time of year for that reason only. Lexie called said to windy to ride in the arena. It's made out of heavy duty tarp material. So It really shakes when the wind blows. Jaxs get to upset to even run around and exercise. I will go clean his stall and walk him around inside the barn. He knows where I keep the treats so that will be our destination lol. My nephew gave me a med to heavy blanket. I will try that on him. But, I think it will be to small. He wears a 76 this is a 74. It would be nice if it did. A back up blanket is always nice. Be careful out there in the wind. Vicki & Big Jax

Oh dear, the weather sounds rough. I glanced at the radar early this am because we were supposed to get rain (it's only small tails of rain that have already moved out of the area) and it looks like most of the mess is still up your way. Ugh. So today might be a repeat of yesterday except for the wind. Again, ugh. Hope you fare okay. Might be another football/nap day.
Actually,(embarrassed cough),they did get the new shingles on, they just don't overlap as much as the old roof did so I couldn't see it in the dark when I got home from work friday. Unfortunately, they did a lousy job picking up nails. I must have picked up 20+ just what I could see, some of them a pretty long way from the barn. Grrrr! Nails and hooves, tires, and feet don't mix at all!
I rode Allie in the riding ring yesterday. Did some loping while the ground was dry, and that makes her chargey. But the good news is that she slowed to a walk easily when I circled her down, and after practicing backing and sidepassing, she relaxed enough to walk at the end of the ride.

Not that it helps but we are having cold rain and high winds too. Misery loves company!!
Most of the schools close down for hunting season, well, its only 3 days until Thanksgiving. Yep, Dominic got a buck around 2 this afternoon. I was at my craft sale my sister puts on at a local bar in Hawkins. He sent me a text message, and I told him I would do a happy dance for him. Just got home from Church went his Dad pulled in the driveway.....Dominic nearly dragged me out of the car so I could see his deer. I told him just pure luck....at least he laughed and made some comment about a lot more than luck.
Came home from the sale with some homemade jewerly, made out of recycled copper wire. Very different, I did not buy any for myself, 1 bracelet to sent to a friend for Christmas, and butterfly made out of wires, and a deer head out of copper wires, sort of like for a key chain.....Tristan snatched that up. Also won the door prize, a 4 ft high snow bird, sort of nice, but my sister said my Mom liked it, so guess who gets it.

Sorry to hear that Indy's sire and dam had to be put down. That was so sweet of them to pasture them together in their old age. 27 is a good log life, 35 is amazing. I'll bet Bullseye is cute getting into everything.

I am so sorry about Indy's parents. I think it wonderful they were together. Yep our weather is just like yours. Cold this morning. They say it going to be in the 40s by midnight. I worry about the horses colic. I am lucky Lexie has been keeping an eye on Jax. If its really cold when she comes in at 5am she adds his cooler. If it has warmed up to much she takes it off. I love this lady. (she is my trainer). She rode him last night. Didn't want me on him as it has been a month. He was wonderful. She was so happy that he was so good. We can't figure out why he is so good under saddle and can be so naughty on the ground. I have to say the ground lessons with Liz has paid off. Lex says he is just a teenager and he will out grow his naughtiness. She also told me with all the time and training, he will be a really good boy once he grows up. I sure hope so.
You take care and I hope the knee is better. Beside the bone on bone the weather can't be helping either. Stay warm. Have a dinner meeting tonight. Should be fun. We have to change our activities. Vicki & Big Jax

Your weather doesn't sound fun at all. At least the grass quit growing. Any word on a new lawnmower? You were pretty stalwart to get the kids to the indoor as well as to walk with Honey.
The roofers came yesterday and stripped the shingles off the barn, not sure when they'll get the new put up. Of course, it's supposed to rain this weekend, so they really need to finish today, but being saturday, I'll be surprised to see them at all. Then solar panels go on sometime. I don't know anyone who's gone solar, so this is an experience.
Yeah, Allie is finally coming around. It took me forever to figure out that less is more for her, I should've taken things a LOT slower when I first started her. She's a smart little horse, she just learns differently than most horses.
Well, hope you have a great weekend and stay dry.

It seems like we always loose the good ones, doesn't it. Tears are starting to think of Crimson, Cherokee, and Shaylee, plus the ones I had as a kid.
Sorry you are still getting our weather and its not any better stuff coming. We have had a whole month or 6 weeks of that same junk. Cold, windy and wet, and now watch December be like 75 and sunny....just like the song goes. Mother Nature is on one of those can not decide what she wants to next. Temps are 31-34 raining one minute, snowing and sleeting next time I go out. Needless, to say, I am glad I have a back up jacket. Winds are bad again.
Peeled and sorted carrots, most of the morning. School got out early so we had to pick up Dominic. Hunting season starts tomorrow for the gun deer season....most guys and girls too, think it is a Holiday. Tristan is here sleeping over so he can get out in the stand early morning.

Haven't been riding, was horribly windy today. 1 degree short of tying for a record high (81). Everytime I went out today, Lilly was following me around, like "aren't we going to do something?" She is such a good girl. Maybe tomorrow if Scott is not gone too long - he's going to a gem and mineral show in Dallas.

Wow 25 degrees that's cold! No my herd is on our property in Charenton, about 30 minutes from where I live. Our plans were to move out there, but just never worked out that way. Still a possibility though.

Well yesterday was great! We got another ride in on Ace and Gypsy. My husband rode Ace first then I rode him for a while in the round pen. Then I got on Gypsy and he rode Ace again. Gypsy wasn't wanting to do much though, we figured out her hooves may have been bothering her. The farrier just came out on Tuesday and clipped her hooves, maybe a little too short. I am at home again today, got things to do. My husband is with the horses. It's another beautiful day here. Happy Friday!

Weird to be alternating sun and rain this time of year. I bet Indy was wondering what you were doing, letting him get 4 bites of grass and back inside.
Yeah, my doc was trying to talk me into a knee replacement 3 years ago, so I know it's coming, but I'll put it off as long as possible too. I just have to time it right since I also can't miss much time at work. Stupid knees. Glad yours is feeling better, and your wrist too.
Talked to the local tire place yesterday and they are going to look at the trailer for me, grease the bearings, probably 4 new tires, etc. Not excited about the bill for all that, but I want the horses to be safe. I'm looking at taking it in after Thanksgiving.
I rode Allie out in the pasture yesterday and I think it must have been divine intervention that she did so well because she was head up and restless while I was saddling her. That little horse sees EVERYTHING. Anyway, we walked and trotted circles and she did the transitions pretty good, only got fast a couple of times. It's work today and possible rain saturday, so she'll have some time off after 3 good rides in a row.

November is not know for it's "sunny side", we hardly ever see the sun in November. Cold and windy today. Went shopping for a few things at Walmart, seen half of Hawkins in the store. Came home and Mike had did check one of the pipes upstairs and let more air into the pipes, which blocks the water, so we had to do it all over again. Told him, I was going to slap his fingers if I see him heading upstairs with the flashlight and screwdriver again.
Mistic is not with Lilly yet, still working on making her a pen inside, but also a way to take her out daily, to get outside, since the big door in back will be locked and small square bales of old hay lining the bottom and partly up the sides. So if she is inside will have to walk her threw the shop and into the small out side pens. Not sure why but I always seem to run out of time.

Yay for the wrist holding up, boo for the knee hurting again. Are they talking joint replacement for you? Wish they could slip in an artificial neoprene cartilage. Wouldn't that be dandy?
Glad it was nice enough for the kids to get out. Hate that Kevin's leg is bothering him again, sure hope the cyst isn't replaced by scar tissue that does the same thing to the nerves. That would suck.
Yeah, I'm pleased that Allie is coming along, listening better, and picking up on softer cues without as much resistance as she used to have. It's like we're finally at a point where she can actually learn stuff. I rode her in the ring again yesterday and we did more trotting circles and figure 8s. She's getting pretty good at turning even in the trot, though she needs more bend, but I'm happy. I hope to ride her in the pasture today.
Well, hope your thursday is a good one.

Glad the wrist is doing well and you are able to do more. The fries came out great. Took FOREVER to get the platter (it's non stick and what you cook on) positioned correctly so it would rotate, hoping it gets easier with practice. Rain held off today, so got everyone out. Only supposed to get a few mild showers tonight so will leave Jazz in the yard with a tub of feed. She's not cleaning her feed up, don't know if she's getting enough grass/hay to fill her up or if she's just losing interest in feed.

That's great new that you can at least start using your wrist. Hope you do not over do it.
Now foggy rainy, damp, day temps are at least in the 30's, so not bad outside. Put down a huge bag (like the biggest black garage bag) of wood shavings in the outside pheasant pen, guineas decided to stay in the back of the barn with Lilly for the winter, but one gal needs a place for her geese and a few ducks, so I told her I had some room. It is a log cabin type of house with a large fence in area, with a fencing on top too.
Shipped 2 boxes of spare tack to a friends small tack shop in Texas, so hopefully, they get there in one piece. They are insured. Well, break time is over....thats Mike's lunch hour, and I have to get back outside to help water and dig out the rest of the carrots.....horses and rabbits will eat good for awhile.

It stayed overcast and in the 40s all day here too (70 was predicted!). Oh well, I complained about it staying hot for so long, I can't very well complain about it being chilly now.
How's Kevin doing? Has he gone on any more walks with you?
So glad the splint is helping your wrist. If it's letting you lunge and crack a whip, it's doing pretty good.
I did finally get to ride Allie after a week or more off. She has a swollen hind cannon bone again (mares!) so we just walked, but she's getting pretty solid...at the walk, at home, in the riding ring. Okay, I know that's not saying much, lol, but it's better than it was. I also trimmed Gracie's fronts. Without working on it, she's gotten to where she'll pick them up for me before I ask. She's such a sweet girl, just love her.
I got some avacado oil at Walmart and added some to the spray in mane and tail conditioner. It really softened and detangler nicely. I'm sure it would build up and get gummy if I used it too often, but for once a week application, I think it'll work well.

I am sure this "winter Christmas look" with disappear and then reappear many many times before the real Christmas comes....perhaps we will have a brown Christmas. Today it was foggy nearly all day, even at 4 when I went out to make sure all the chickens and guineas were in, because so foggy I could not see out to the coop.
Went to get old hay bales from Mikey and Jennifer's barn. Brought them a bag of grain for the calves. The one I called Panada, sure is nice looking and big. Worked on getting heat up stairs today. When we installed a heat exchanger about 2-3 yrs ago, we lost the prime for the upstairs, I think we may have figured it out.....we will see tomorrow. Pipes were getting warmer. If so, I will finally get a chance to clean and sort all the totes and boxes, usually it has been cold, so I just put a tote up there and never have time to put things where they belong. Lots of horse statues, and Christmas or seasonal things.

Glad you got around safely yesterday on the roads. We had major fog to deal with, I passed a couple of wrecks, one mild, one pretty bad. I too went to Wally World for groceries. Didn't get time to ride, but I brought Allie up for a grooming and everybody got a light scrubbing with the curry comb at supper time. It didn't help much, they still look awful, lol. Yes I am finally back in the saddle again! I have got a few rides in recently. I am riding on Gypsy and Lucky right now. My husband is riding Ace. He wants to make sure that Ace is not going to act up or anything before I try to ride him again. We have been working all of the horses, even Susie gets lunged in the round pen and put on the walker. We saddle the rest of the horses even if they are not being ridden. I am enjoying my riding time again. Yesterday they all got carrots. I haven't been giving them their treats, I could tell they really enjoyed that. Tomorrow the farrier comes to do their hooves. Enjoy your week.

Did you run into any slippery road when you went to your appointment??
Today it was cloud, but warm at least ...if you call 23 warm, but had no wind. Mike put in 3 more round bales, it bothers me that we have started so early feeding hay. Usually at the end of Noverber, or 3rd week sometimes, but we started the 28th of October. Chickens, guinea hens, and Lilly got to go out, while we moved the one pen outside, and set up a pen for Lilly, at least now she will not be getting into the square hay bales. Never really got sunny out, but once in a great while, Mr. Sunshine would take a peak at us. We went and got more corn and also whole corn for the deer. The 18th starts deer hunting season, with rifles, it was bow season. I know it is still 10 degree below normal, but it does feel good outside. Put strings on the rest of the lid ornaments that Dominic had painted and hung them outside on small trees, still have more to paint, and decorate another little tree.

Thanks! I'll try that. Cinnamon just seems to get really nervous especially with other horses. When I rode her into the arena full of horses for the anthem, she stood still for a while but another horse walked behind her and she freaked out. I'm sure it didn't helpthat I panicked, thinking she'd kick the other horse, but after that whole thing she really didn't want to stand still. I've been working with her here at home getting her to stand still for long periods of time without having her face in the grass. Lol.

Hi & a vote,
Can't seem to want to take Blue for a walk now that it's colder, especially down by the river, too windy! But I know he'd like to go. In the meantime, Blue & I went to a visit to the nursing home on Saturday. Then on Sunday afternoon, when the temps were better in the sun, went for a very short ride on Rocky with Blue along. Rocky got his 2 carrots and was a happy horsey! My daughter did another different obstacle challenge on Saturday about an hour from where she lives. This had in-hand in the ring as well as six miles with obstacles riding on the trail. Sounded fun!

So cold! Glad you had some sunshine and the kids got to go out for a bit. Hope it's not the mess they're predicting for you today. It was drizzly and windy and in the 40s all day here yesterday, kinda miserable.
The chrome guards do look good, I'm just not sure what folks use them for. I can't think of any reason I'll be nudging the front of my truck up against something. And as someone recently said, dang deer are as likely to run into the side of a vehicle as to be hit out front. But they sure do look nice.

Tomorrow is Mike's VA breakfast, today he had to go an peel potatoes. Got home just in time to go to Church. Dominic and I paint old canning jar lids, put sparkles and other jewel type decorations, but first he punch a hole so we could put a small string string to hang them on the outside trees. Have not decided if it will be the small Christmas tree he brought out of the woods about 5 yrs ago, regular "Charlie Brown" tree, or the small maple that he planted seeds when he was about 5....had a whole handful, and now there are 2 or 3 trees sort of growing together. It is a small burgundy maple, they grow wider than tall. He helped me hang up a metal designed hanger, has 2 horses on, which his Dad had made me for last Christmas, he had painted it a few weeks ago.
