How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

Good luck! Cucumbers; Cisco would probably eat those too. He just likes any kind of treats. Remembered several years ago I was at a clinic and one of the ladies fed celery so decided to give it a try. Meg and Nugget may come around once they see Cisco eating it.

Construction of the ice blanket will start tomorrow, am using socks for pockets. Got Cisco's white mesh fly sheet out and cleaned and will sew at least 3 down each side, 1 on each side of the hip and 1 on each side of the chest. Just need to ask the vet how long to leave it on. Will also start putting ice blocks in the water tubs in the afternoon. Whew. Thank God we only topped out at 86 today, and is supposed to be relatively cool thru at least Sat. Cisco enjoyed his new guilt free treats: celery sticks. Meg and Nugget weren't interested.

On Sunday I lunged Spangle. He did really well.

I also rode Rose bareback. I used very little rein the whole time. I also stopped Rose from a lope with no rein! It was a good ride.

Yesterday I had a lesson on Rose. I galloped her in our warm-up. She had a lot of energy. Then we worked on soft/slow work. We also did one dressage test:) It was a good ride.

I will be offline 7/30-8/9

We had a lot of wind yesterday, the humidity dropped, and today and tomorrow are supposed to only reach the mid 80s. Nice!
Yeah, I trim all my horses. I started doing it 7-8 yrs ago for financial reasons. Did a lot of research, had the farrier check my work, etc. I really enjoy doing it now and I love how my horses' feet are doing. Plus, I found that I'll trim more often than I'll pay someone to trim, lol. Your back does have to ease into it. I never do more than 1 horse on any given day. Its ruined me though, now I walk around and stare at horse hoofs when I go to shows, etc, lol.
Rode BJ yesterday out in the field. Even though the corn was blowing around, he handled it well.
Hope your Tuesday goes smoothly.
PS: I think both reasons you suggested are why Allie backs the way she does.

Good morning! Your storm and mine must have been one and the same...I was in the barn setting up stalls when it let loose. But same here about 15 minutes and back to sun. We had a very pretty rainbow over the hay fields but darn it, I couldn't find that pot of gold. LOL. Me and Butter didn't do any work last night, just got some quality grooming time in. He has some scrapes on his one side, not sure where they came from but put some salve on it to keep the bugs off.
Hope you and the gang have a great day!

102.7 today, front finally came thru about 3:30 and cooled down to 97. Bathed Nugget about 12:30, ck'd about 3 and she was very hot, so back out with ice. I think if I make some pockets in Cisco's old fly sheet, I can make an ice blanket for her which should help. Very nice ride on Cisco today, he was a very good boy. Did a LOT of trotting and some cantering, then worked obstacles, especially the figure 8 back thru. He's wanting to hurry, so I'm trying to make him do it one step at a time. I feel badly about Nugget, I shouldn't have waited so long. It's just that I've used that vet clinic for over 30 yrs, worked for them for 8, and I guess there was some denial involved - I kept thinking if I called enough I could get someone out. Really do like the new vet, she will be getting ALL my equine business. Cheryl & Cisco

Gotta love a horse that'll take care of kids. Sweet Paige.
Thanks for the backing tip. Will try it. She's getting better, but she sure doesn't back like a QH. She kinda picks her feet up high and stabs them back. Its funny to watch.
Hot here too yesterday, so didn't ride but did some groundwork with Allie and Gracie, then trimmed Cinni-Mini's feet. That pony grows a lot of hoof fast and its a pain working under her short little body. But its done for a few weeks and she enjoys the attention.
Hope your Monday is a good one.

Happy Monday vote!! We had a nice slow ride at the battlefields yesterday. Even though we left early it was very humid. And those giant horse flies were out in full force! (needed that 9mm LOL) Got a bath when we returned then into the stall under the fans. Had some heavy rain and wind last night but it cooled things down a bit. Checked on everyone this morning before work and all are well.
Sounds like Paige is doing excellent once again at boot camp. You and Paige put in a lot of hard work! When is your next show? I have an almost teenage cousin that was at a three day QH show this past weekend. She did very well, got third overall so she was happy.
Hope you have a great start to the week and have lots of horsey time!

I had to stop by the store, after work and buy another fly mask. Sassy Miss Sadie is rough on them. I don't like having to keep her beautiful face covered, but the flies here are bad. Got to keep her pretty eyes protected. Aren't horses some of the most gorgeous creatures? Love and a vote.

Thanks Marion, I did some research yesterday, I think he likes the sound, he can see Sterly, her stall door is a half door, he hangs his head over all the time. We are going to try the padding, we have some very dense pad, about two inches thick, I hope it does the rick, he can do some nasty damage to himself, what a doorknob...love him anyway, Love Donna Lee

Long, hot day. We got up to 103.5. Finished clipping Nugget, mostly clean up and took the mounting block out and finished her back. Worked Cisco's butt in the round pen, he was huffing and puffing and really worked up a good sweat. Got him cleaned up, checked Nugget and she was really hot so power water raked her, too. Ck'd her about 4, again really hot, so took a block of ice out and rubbed over her neck and chest, she felt better after that. Also took the spare water tub out and put it close to the shady spot so she wouldn't have to walk so far to get a drink.

Sounds like a fun day yesterday. Glad you were able to go to the show.
I did some groundwork with Allie yesterday morning: lunging, backing, and flapping a feed bag on her. She is coming along well. Her back ups are a little crooked and clumsey, but improving. Rode BJ bareback in the evening. Its helping my balance, but I find its harder to cue speed changes and a stop with my seat when I'm bareback. I've always had lousy balance, so the fact that bareback is helping makes it worth doing once in a while.
Well, off to church this morning then hopefully some horse time later. Have a good Sunday.

MY PROBLEM CHILD....
Good morning, first, I'm sorry if I missed anyone yesterday, HC has been so S L OW. It took forever to do my blogging. Second Cookie came around yesterday and did teeth, yippee, Sterly did not require the power float, she was looking good, he is generally p;eased with her, Charlie did well with his float also, however, my boy has developed a vice and I wonder if anyone has a suggestion....at night in his stall, he stands next to Sterly's half door and he kicks the wall (wood), it is hard to describe, not directly behind, but the wall that he is standing parallel to. I'll get a picture this morning and post it. Dr. Cook is worried, me too, that he will eventually injure his hocks, he does it on both sides, depending on which direction he is facing. HELP. David suggested fastening rubber matting to the wall to absorb the shock. Dr. Cook said, like any vice, it is sometimes very difficult to stop once they have made it a habit. We had a nice ride yesterday, hope to today before the rains come, all week....We voted, Love Donna Lee

Bathroom done except I may do a few changes. Kitchen done, hallway/laundry area needs baseboard still...(think husband forgot!) I have those big heavy front loaders that sends ya to the chiropractor after moving them!

I've been at the fairgrounds this week cheering on my cousin in the horse and pony classes for 4H. My youngest daughter and I went to learn "the ropes" so she can show Bub and Bee next year. Even though I got my first horse when I was 8 yrs old, my parents wouldn't let me show, so all this is new to me. So this week have not rode at all because of getting home late and then the time chores are done, I'm pooped! I sit down to rest between 10-11 o'clock! My mind is to wound-up to go to bed, so got to watch TV and fold laundry to turn the brain off.

Been hot again with no rain, so off and on been using the sprinklers so hopefully do not loose the pasture yet again-every year since 2010 we have had to start all over.

Have a great night and weekend! Voted, of course.

On Wednesday I had a friend over for the night and for most the day on Thursday. She loves horses and used to have one so she knows how to handle/ride horses. We went riding Thursday morning with Misty and Sierra. My friend rode Misty and I rode Sierra. We rode around the fields on the tractor paths and back to the creek crossing. Misty went on through but Sierra didn't want to get her feet wet. I am planning to take her back there again soon to work on getting her to go across. We had a really fun ride and the mares were good. Later on we also rode Cherokee and Dakota bareback for a while. This morning I rode Sierra again and took her out around a large circular field near the farm. Around the bottom of the field it is dirt but there is corn planted around the top. We were trotting along on a loose rein around the dirt part when suddenly behind us something started crashing around in the corn field. Must have been a beef cow that got out. Sierra bolted into a dead gallop for a ways until we came to some tall brush and she swerved sharply back around. I just barely managed to hang on when she swerved. She settled right down again then and we went on our way around the field. We trotted some more and had a nice little lope. I was glad I was able to expose her to a "scary" situation. It seems like she has been getting bored working on circles and such in the pasture but she really seems to enjoy getting out and exploring new places. She has so far been doing really well not being barn sour or trying to get back to Misty. Any problems we encounter I am able to work her through pretty easily. I am still getting used to the fact that she is now my filly-I feel very lucky!
I have been working on Cheyenne's lunging and she has been doing really well. We are working on voice commands and reversing. She is catching on.
Hope your weekend is going great :)

Depends on how fast her hair grows with the increase in pergolide. Will probably have to do her at least once more, maybe twice this year. Maybe I do need to get really big clippers. Poor Emily, but yeah, I'm sure Paige knew she was done for the day, and probably showing a horse (even W-T) after one ride might not be a good idea. Cisco is continuing to be desperate for treats, he got 2 today (1 for bowing) and I always give one when he walks up to be haltered, but they were very small. Meg got 3 - it's her birthday, after all, but very small ones. I generally give 4 or 5, so hey, it's not that bad, but I think Cisco can count.

awww, bet it was tough to turn down little Emily with her saddle all ready to ride. It wouldn't have been a good ride though, sounds like Paige was done for the day.
Kathryn and I hauled to our first trail ride of the summer. It was gonna be a short one but went 3 hrs, lol. Just walked most of the way, and I even got off and led BJ the last couple of miles. But I enjoy walking in the woods almost as much as I like riding in them. Stopped at the gas station on the way home for an iced coffee. Whoo-hoo! Fun.
