How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

Mike's incision will not stop bleeding. Called back to the hospital, said to bring him back....100 miles one way. Figured if I put a pressure bandage on it, perhaps that would help. His friend next door is staying with him, she know alot about taking care of him, since she had to take care of both her Mom and Dad. You can not put pressure anywhere up his leg, because of the stint. They have his leg opened up on both sides of his knee, about 7-8 inch and I think left the bottom open. He has to be on blood thinner because of his heart.
I sure understand what you mean about the heat and humidity. Bad here too, but it did sprinkle around 4 just as we were walking into church for 4 o'clock Mass. Then later it rained hard, and around 4-5 this morning started all over again. Still have all of Sunday before I can check how many baby keets I have in the incubator. If I open it, the humidity leaves and shrink wraps the unhatched ones. So I wait and peek in a tiny airhole. Plastic one so I keep it in the Styrofoam box it came in, to keep the heat in. Baby pigs go from one pen to the other, white sow is a much better MaMa, she lets all the babies nurse. They have chubby little cheeks and butts. Some of the baby chicks I let out of their rabbit cage, but sure is a pain to try to round them all up in the evening. Been waiting until the all try to climb into their feed pans, and put the whole pan chicks and all back in the cage. Have get back out in the garden to weed as soon as this heat ends. I do not sweat, just get red, red face, and never know when I am too hot. Something is broke inside with my thermostat. :) Stay cool everyone!!

Oh yeah, the pool is getting used for sure. It feels like soup, but even soup feels better than sweating in the hot sticky air.
That's great that your hay man will put some aside for you. Mine has 3 big barns that he takes care of first. They get like 1000 square bales and 100 round bales every summer. Gosh, can't imagine! Or even imagine having a barn big enough to store it all in.
I bet your blondes enjoy the spa part of the day. Who wouldnt, right?
Got to ride Allie yesterday morning. I had to abandon those trot across the ring and circle exercises. She can handle either walking or trotting, but to mix it up makes her get too excited and exponentially increases her stiffness again. Turning left, even at a walk, was like pulling a 50 lb weight around . Some days I get kinda discouraged with her. What I've done in 6 months of riding should've only taken 6 days, 6 weeks even if you're extra generous. I've never ever dealt with a horse that couldn't handle new things like her and be so dang resistant about it. She's a sweetheart and I'll stick with it and look for those little victories, but gosh, they're few and far between and it's an uphill battle all the way. What's so frustrating is that a lot of the Tacky owners who don't know the first thing about training, can just get on and go ride their Tackies, do anything with them within that first month. Makes me second guess myself.
Well, enough complaining. I'm just discouraged with our slow progress and venting about it. Don't know if I'll ride today, it'll be so hot by the time church lets out. Though I will say that Allie doesn't even seem to notice the heat, she still only sweats under the saddle and just a little under her mane while I'm soaking wet. So I guess it's me that doesn't want to go out and ride in the afternoon heat, lol.
Have a great sunday and take care.

Whoopsie, had too much fun at the auction today. Late start for cattle, some of the goats were double tagged, so took them nearly 2hrs to straighten it out and re-auction them. Only meant to get 2, but as I was getting ready to leave, a really nice Hereford heifer went thru, low price, bid on her and got her.

I know how bad hearing can be, Mike can not hear good, and my Mom can not hear hardly at all without her hearing aids.
I guess I will never complain about the cold, when the heat is this bad. 10 o'clock and horses have all ran into the shed. We brought all the round bales in this morning, Mike brought them in, and I just help make sure he is getting them straight. So while he is doing that, I moved most of the baby chicks, now about 3 weeks old into the chicken coop, there is a separate little room in there, for feed, but feed never gets into it, so nice place for chicks. They have out grown their large rabbit cage. At least there is a window to open.
Baby guineas, (keets) are hatching now, I can hear them inside the incubator. Have another batch due next Saturday. Wanted to take them to the next swap on the 30th, but that is our family reunion, (Mike's side) this time near Minneapolis, about 3-4 hours away. Most people are staying over night, but we have no one to check on critters, so we will just go for a bit and come home. Stay cool, sorry I did not read any one's comments to me, so will try to catch up later on any news.

Glad your ear is better and they're both "normal", lol. Don't you love hearing that?
I can understand Paige's point of view. After all, the in hand exercises ARE work, surely that's enough mom, haha.
My friend had to cancel on trail riding, so I'll head out and work Allie this morning before it gets blazing hot. Supposed to hit 98-100 today. I did some trot to the fence, break to a walk and circle a few times, trot to the opposite side and repeat. It got her listening to my seat better, but she got a little excited and wanted to trot every time I pointed her in a straight line. May mix some more of that in today, gives her a new exercise to think about, and let's me work on softening and transitions.
I got in 30 square bales yesterday. Good solid bales of coastal bermuda. I've never started to stock up on my winter supply this early, but with it being so dry around here, there's not much hay available.
Well, better get out before the heat builds too much. Take care and stay cool.

I sure hope all this heat, and humidity does not reach you.
Everyone's prayers must be working, because surgery went well. So I want to Thank Everyone!! My son has spent more time in the hospitals and clinics, than all of us put together. When he had his transplants they told us 2 weeks, 3 at the most, well he was there from Feb. 24th until the end of July, and then out a few days and back in for nearly another 3 mts. He had a infection "someplace", I figured right where his home dialysis tubes when into his stomach, but that is the only place they did not check, since it is suppose to be mainly fatty tissues.

Surgery went good, seen some pictures he sent me, foot and toes looked like a big balloon with digits. He said his hip hurts him very bad. I sure hope the stints work, because other wise he will loose his foot, with his toes always being infected. They did remove one toe, about 5 yrs ago, since it was being forced way out of place. Yrs ago, he was in a 4-wheeler accident, and drs. said his foot was not broke, and I kept telling them something was wrong with it, well, after him walking on it for nearly 2 weeks, yep, it was broke and they had to go in threw the top of his foot, so his whole foot is litterly smashed down with 2 long scars about 6 inch long, I am sure that is why he has issues now.

Ugh, too hot and humid? At least you've gotten in 5 good days riding. How was Paige's attitude about the hand work yesterday?
Have you enjoyed having a TV in your room? Does Honey sleep on your bed with you? I leave my little dog out in the den at night, she's part of my high tech alarm system, lol. Barks at EVERYTHING.
Yes, I was pretty numb yesterday and didn't get much done, need to get it in gear today. I had a great ride on Allie yesterday morning. Seems like she's often good after a few days off. She's getting to where she'll often turn without quite making rein contact (at the walk only), and if she doesn't quite stop from my seat and a whoa, I can tell she at least notices that I've cued for a stop instead of being oblivious. She also is guiding better at a trot, but still has moments of poking her nose out and resisting the rein, usually to the left. She used to be stiffer to the right, so I guess I've over corrected. Gonna head out in a bit and work her again.
Trying not to get too excited cause things will probably change, but my best friend said something about swinging by tomorrow morning, picking me up and going trail riding. She's the one who shows reining and cow horse, she doesn't often trail ride. In fact, we don't get a lot of time to visit because she stays so busy and it seems like we often work opposite. She has this huge 16+ hand rope gelding I'm thinking about asking if she'll bring and let me pony Allie off of. They pony all their babies off him, you wont move him if he doesnt want to! Allie hasn't been in a trailer or on the trails since she was a yearling and I'd really love to expose her to them safely again. It probably won't happen, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Well, hope you have a great friday. Stay cool and away from bugs.

Sounds like Ms Honey loves loves loves giving chase. Glad she went out across the hay field this time and not out toward the road. Sorry about the screen door. At least she knew to come inside for saftey, back home to mom.
So sorry I missed yesterday. I was super tired after only about 2 hrs of sleep before going in and working 14 hrs, so I didn't get up in time to get on HC. Don't ask why only 2 hrs of sleep. It's a long story. Anyway, I'm off the rest of the week and I'm gonna head out in a little bit to work Allie. Finally!
Well, glad your temps have been cooler and you've been able to ride all week. That's not like Paige to grump at a little work, but glad she was able to see your point of view, lol. Have a great thur.

Honey, you are such a "problem child" for your Mom, better start being GOOD, because Christmas will be here in about 5 mts, and you need all the practice you can get. hee, hee!!
Going to be a hot, mucky day, but weather man is calling for bad thunderstorms, for our county and north of us. Mike has to take our son Mike, in for surgery this morning, so since it is nearly a 2 hour drive, he left at 5:30 this morning. My son, needs to have a stint put behind his knee, because his toes are turning black (spot) from lack of blood. Being a diabetic all those yrs has destroyed his blood vessels. If you have extra prayers send them his way. He has already lost his other leg up to his knee about 10 yrs ago.

Honey is going to have you remodeling your whole house just for her. :), you will have to ask her what design she likes best, perhaps a doggie door would work for her.
Very humid today, still calling for rain, but high temps too. At least 84 now, but there is a nice breeze too. Had to run to get a part for the tractor, so sort of late for me, about 11 now. We have about 15-16 acres of hay, only cut about half of it down and had a guy round bale it. Going to try out a small sq. baler to put up the hay from new seeding. We did not want to take the chance of getting it down, then get rained on because it is thick. Trouble is no barn the type where you had a hay mount like the old barns. Can store some inside side the shed, but not more than a 150.

yeah, if i hadnt had to pee so bad, i would have got up and let him follow me outside. oh well. we were blessed with almost 2 inches of rain yesterday, so between the ground being a bit slick and me having to work again tomorrow, i may not ride today. spend it getting grocery shopping and the feed store, and maybe cutting some grass so i have more time to ride thurs when im off next.

I sure wish Mo and & Honey could become friends but sometimes it takes longer, and sometimes it never happens. We are in our real dry hot dog days of summer so I am only riding Deacon in the early morning. I am outside by 6:30 am to catch and saddle him then I started with 20 minute rides and increased to 30 minutes Sunday morning. I will be off Friday and the following Tuesday and will ride 30 min. each day. If he is still doing well I may increase to 40 minutes next weekend. He has done very well. I have been flexing, backing, side passing and walk trot only. May try a slow canter next weekend. Have a wonderful day!

Whisper, Willow, and the little herd are sending you a vote. Hay was cut yesterday, all except where we planted new seeding. Because that will take longer to dry, and its calling for rain again. Before, the weather station said rain on Thursday, then changed it Wednesday. So we left that part, going to small bale it, then try to figure out where to store it.
