Fancy and I enjoyed a cloudy evening! We were overdue for this show practice and time just hanging out. Fancy did not freet for Trigger one bit, even though Trigger screamed murder every time we got out of his sight. We are expecting rains and clouds all week. But the weekend may be nice. We will try to practice a little each day. It was so much fun! And today was the first day Fancy was ridden since her heel injury. She was great. Like she never missed a beat. I am glad I did not rush her.

Voted- Thanks for the info on the shots I would never think of not doing them cause I won't take that chance. I had no idea that I would only need a booster if exposed again. Is that for a certain time period of forever? I thought it would only be for a year like the rabies shots the dogs get. Fortunately I felt better today but being out in the 90's degree weather fixing fence was not good. I came home and slept for a couple hours to feel better from the heat. Good that your washer is working for now, but would be good to know if the newer one will work without leaking so you have it on standby. I hope you get some warmer weather to be able to clip Bullseye, who will probably feel better with the fur gone. Maybe Paige got in her show bridle and put on her show face, glad you had a great ride on her. Next shot is tues so We see how it goes. Have a good Monday, nite for nor now

Waiting for it to dry some more so I can ride there at home. Now it is calling for rain Tuesday and that is my day off... will haul out to ride if need to be! ✞ Cliff finished putting up the barbless wire on turn out #3 yesterday. Will hang gate and add hot wire this morning. When I get off work today we will introduce the herd to it! Scaredy pants Deacon will not want to go to the back end of it because there is a tank and it is surrounded by lots of trees and bush! We haven’t fenced it yet. We will fence tank area next fall. Deacon (with his alpha self) knows coyote’s go down there sometimes so he is always Leary and high headed when I ride around that area. I will work with him on that. Have a wonderful day!

GOOD MORNING, LEFT A THANK YOU VOTE, So, let's get right to it. On routine exam all her vitals where good, she, of course appeared healthy, she had regular vacs, wormings and her teeth were good. We drew blood for a complete work up, all neg, with nothing obvious we started the slow process of ruling out, one by one the possibilities. I mean slow because in order to not get confused we needed to give each treatment time to test effects, does that make sense?? Being a Mare, almost 15 and never bred, we wanted to rule out ovary issues first, I was happy and relived when the physical exam and the internal ultrasound was negative, we then went at the simple stuff like corrective shoeing, we tried a course of Regumate and a series of Prostoglandn injection, we tested for neurological issues, we looked at eye issues, double checked teeth and throat, there was no obvious tenderness in her back muscles, however she lounged better than under saddle. Thru all the testing, which took weeks, I still rode her and acted like everything was fine. When Dr. Cook was satisfied that we had ruled out EVERYTHING, he said he needed some very accurate xrays of her spine, he needed us to go to the Equine Hospital in Guelph. He called to make her appointment and I asked Val(our coach) to trailer us up there, and on Jan 15/98 in on of the worst snow storms ever off we went. TO BE CONTINUED. Sorry about the argument that we had about a week ago about what Jewel was. I just thought that 'cuz I found this thing on the AQHA website that said Overo is allowed but, tobiano and tovero have yet to be discovered in the breed. One question though, is Jewel tobiano or overo? I think she is Tobiano but, idk.

I planned on working with Fancy today, but the rains came in. She has shed her winter duds and she is slick and shinny. I guess I will get new photos after she has a bath. Trigger is slick and shinny too.
Mother's day the neighborhood kids came to visit Fancy and Trigger. The children gave them treats and pulled grass. Trigger is still quite aloof. I wonder if anyone ever gave him treats before we got him. He acts like they just rode him hard and put him up wet. Once you catch him, he is so sweet though.

Voted- Well I guess we need a lot of the magnesium chloride here to put out on the whole pastures area and pecan fields. We are died out and it is a dust storm when we work in the round pen. Glad you got some good time put in on Paige. When is the next show for you two? Well Zuni placed 1st in in halter but no other mares again. But the judge did give me time to set her up and Zuni let me do and she stayed, YEAH. There were 3 in trail in hand and Zuni placed 2nd again to that darn tiny pony. The darn serpentine trot through the cones is hard for Zuni but the pony can always be lead through easily. Harder to do serpentine on the ground than when you are riding. We keep trying. My shot yesterday did burn and sting. I was wondering why she was massaging my shoulder when she put it in. It was sore yesterday and ached. I used ibruprophen. This morning when I got to the horses to feed and get Zuni for the show I was feeling really sick to my stomach, glad I had some immodium pills. It helped me get through, but after my game face was off I was feeling sick again. I came home and napped until the Preakness preview came on, I needed that rest. So I may feel worse when I get the next shot, then 7 days later, and 14 days later I don't like the sounds of that. Thanks for the warning though the nurses never tell me anything. I am sleepy now also. Good luck with the other washer hope it will be ready to go. Good night 2 you

Hi Paige & Marion! So happy you two are getting to work out together. Yep, grey skies changed my plans yesterday morning! I did spring cleaning till nearly 12:00! I ate lunch, then brushed Deacon and Rocket-fly sprayed and turned them out. I got Whiskey next and bathed him! He looked so pretty...after that I was tired, plum pooped!! So I relaxed and watched them graze. It will be a few days before I can ride around our home due to rains :(

Sorry I haven't been able to blog in a while. My computer was down...had to replace the hard drive. Just got it fixed and up and running today. Still have to reload all my pictures on it though. I lost a lot of my stuff. I was using my Kindle Fire HD that my daughter gave me for Mother's Day...but it is not the same as being on a desktop computer. lol ~~~
I did get my first ride on Lucky boy since he got back home. It was a short ride, about 30 mins. He did really good. He walked off right away with no hesitation. He shook his head at first but then quickly settled in. He backs really well!! He backs up faster than he walks forward. lol He has got the backing thing down pack! All in all he did very well. Looking forward to working with him again on my days off. Got to run...off to work! Here's a vote.

GOOD MORNING, LEFT VOTES FOR ALL, TO THANK YOU FOR YOURS. This is where Sterly's story takes a bit of a twist. FF almost 4 years, we are still at the boarding barn, Sonya is now in University, I still ride 4x a week. I started to notice a slight hesitation from Sterl that was new, she did not want to go forward, at first it was mild, and I could push her thru it, but it got worse. She would actually do a small buck and a very tiny rear when I asked for forward. This was so out of character for her, but ever her resistance was polite, like she was trying to get my attention, she did. Believe me when I say there were lots of suggestion from folks that observed us, most thought that it was behavior and that I was not strong enough and I was letting her get away with it, one woman told me I had to beat her hard enough to make a welt on her skin, that would smarten her up!!!. I chose to call Dr. Cook, I explained the situation and we made arrangements for him to come and see her, I asked if it could be "just" behavior, he said "whenever a horse that was happy with its work begins to resist, they are trying to tell you something is wrong", in the meantime carry on as normal, act like everything is fine TO BE CONTINUED, Talk soon, love Donna Lee & STERLY GIRLY

Voted- I have not been very hungry at all now that you mention it. I am always tired so not sure if that is effecting me. I did go for my 2nd shot this morning. In my shoulder, and I wasn't ready for it to sting and then the nurse massaged it in and oh it was not nice. It had to be on my right arm today so I am achey and sore tonight. I take some ibrupropen for me tonight. I have a show in the morning so we see how sore it is then, I will have to grin and bear it. Dang it you washer is wanting to call it a lifetime huh, didn't it cause you issues not to long ago? It may be time to get another one I hate doing it. I always go to Lowes or Home Depot and look for scratched or dented one to cut the cost. Mine is in the garage so who cares what it looks like. Glad you had some great weather bout time I'd say. It is to be around 90 here tomorrow so I will be sweating. Well need to get some sleep but getting meds 1st!!!! More maybe tomorrow night if I don't go to sleep early. Have a good Saturday

Haha! Right?! It's dropped down to the low 60's and high 50's the last few days, after being in the 80's since I got home! Sorry it's been a couple days. Been stressing about different things. I got a job! At a farm store here in Newberg, about a 20 min. drive. Wilco farm store. I'll be working Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. So excited! Going over to my friend's house tonight with Stewy. Kinda nervous, drove the two horse with Stewy in it last night for the first time, and her road is real windy and bumpy. Just taking it slow, I guess is the way to go. It's a straight load, and Stewy was real wobbly last night, so hopefully he doesn't have as hard of a time standing today. There's no divider, cause my mom's old mare was too big to be loaded in straight. Anyway, sorry for the ramble! I hope your weather gets better! And Have an amazing weekend! Voted

i rode sing and worked on "finding a distance" for a jump by cantering over a pole and counting down from 3 strides out, "3-2-1 JUMP" i've never been very good at finding distances and helping my horse over tricky courses. this will improve my riding skills so i can help out more, not just be a passenger. peekaboo moved from 406 to 415lbs on the weight tape! yay!
remember the old "wringer" that you could crank your wet clothes through to dry them out. too bad you don't have one. hopeyou get your washer fixed soon. my dryer is acting up and it's only 6 yrs old. way too soon.

Woke up to thunder and grey skies. Not in the forecast as of yesterday's weather. Dang. Re-planning my day! Guess I'm forced to clean house this morning. Not my fav to do. Get my grandson Jason next weekend so I need to get ready. Maybe ill bath whiskey this afternoon. I got some "cowboy magic-shine in yellow out" shampoo. Will try it on his flaxen mane and tail! GOOD MORNING MY FRIENDS,I would like to continue with Sterl May's story, thanks for reading them and commenting on them, because she is 30 and retired, it is also fun for me to remember the early years. THANKS FOR THE VOTES AND SUPPORT. All was well at the barn, Sterly's retraining was in full swing, I still leased Fool Kat, so I was a pretty busy girl, 2 horses to ride 4x a week and the barn was 40 minutes from home, a full time job, a house and husband to take care of plus 4 cats and a dog(Nicky) that I did agility with. The young couple that owned Fool Kat were pregnant and building a new house, they had no time for her but, did not want to let her go. So I was a perfect solution for them. Unfortunately, the baby arrived and the house was ready and they were ready to take her home. I had leased her for almost 2 years, I had Sterly but still it was a sad good by. Fool Kat was 23 when I started her lease, I kept in touch after they moved her home, she was basically a pet, she died quietly at 32. TALK SOON, LOVE DONNA LEE AND STERLY GIRLY

Had some Sadie time today. We both need it everyday. It's getting hot here, so I didn't ride. I put the halter on her and walked her off the property. She was a little nervous, so we took it slow, stopping when she needed to to look around and see that she was okay. Neighborhood dogs were barking at us. She walked a little fast on the way back to the house. Had to keep stopping her to slow her down. She loved it. Going to walk her more often to get her use going off the property. Going to work up to riding her. Last time I rode her off the property, she was nervous and wanted to fight me. She should trust me more now. Hugs and a vote.

Here's a vote from Buddy! Nope it's not the stable job, I had to find a different job sadly as the stable didn't pay enough for me to get caught up on all my bills. I'm now working as a cashier at Canadian Tire and still looking for another job that I'll like better or one that I went to school for! GOOD MORNING, here it is day 16 already. WE LEFT A VOTE FOR YOU, and a big thanks for the wonderful support. Being a pretty new horse owner, I had sort of thought once I get the first year under my belt, I'd be good to go....Silly me, aren't we ALWAYS learning from them. One thing is for sure, if all horses were like STERL MAY, everyone would have a horse. By now she is pretty much the "sweetheart" of the barn. The owners loved her 'cause she was easy to handle, never caused a fuss and I was there regularly(every chance I had). One morning, Sterl was in the aisle cross ties, I was grooming her and Margaret was touring a new prospective boarder, they got to us and Margaret says "this is Sterl May, she is Standardbred, this horse jumps" as they walked past, I heard the guy say "nice butt!!!" HEY,he was talking about the horse. LOVE DONNA LEE & STERLY GIRLY

Went out to check on Sadie when I got home from work last night. She'd torn her fly mask off. It lasted 10 days. Hope to someday move away from the egg ranch. The flies are horrible. Temperatures are now in the triple digits, too. Sending love and leaving a vote.

Voted you did have a leg workout for sure. Bet you were sore, I would have been. I am a little down tonight. Fri I got a 8 wk old baby fox from my vet to keep to release back into the wild in a few months. Had fun with the cute little girl each night. She would run around the house on her harness and I held the leash so she would not hide from me. She so so funny. She found my dogs critter toy that has no stuffing and she honked the squeaker over and over, over........ My little dog would run around her while playing I can getcha while she laid on her back. Well Sunday night she seemed to have a short seizure. Then again Mon night and Tues morning. I stopped by the vet office to get their ideas on the seizures. We decided to keep a watch on her to see if they got worse. well after I ate dinner last night I heard strange noises from her. I checked her out and she was slobbering, screaming and growling at me. It was pretty obvious my vets and my worst thoughts had come true, possible rabies. The vet met me about 8:30pm and it was most merciful to put her down. On Monday Little girl had accidently broke the skin on my thumb with her tooth, so I headed off to the hospital to start rabies shots. Had 9 last night. I have to return 4 more times for more shots. Last night I was focused on getting me taken care of and tonight I am so sad that Little girl is gone I really miss her, she was so funny. So once again it is time for me to cry dang it. I am just so tired and ready for a break and found out my husband is still not released from the doctor so on goes my saga for at least 2 more weeks. Need some stress free time to myself but not gonna happen. Oh so sorry I just needed totell someone and you are always so nice to listen. Thanks for being there. Gotta go finish the laundry and let the dogs out before I can sleep. Good night

Hi Marion, that indoor is from years ago, when I boarded Sterly, it was wonderful. The breeder was the man that Roxanne worked for, so after Roxanne left she really did not keep in touch with him especially after she let Sterl go. Mr. Van Gastel dies a few years ago, he was 90+ yrs old and a very well respected horse breeder. Love Donna Lee

Love Fancy's motto, "Mares Rule and Stallions Drool", pretty cool! Hey, I am someone who works with numbers but I must admit I kept printed copies of pages when a horse of mine or ones I ride win HOTD so I cross checked dates & page numbers. Let's just say I hate writing everything so I just use the printer with my thanks for the honor and that show me date & page number,LOL! Unless I missed something for a 5th HOTD for Angel PF in 2012 on her page number, then maybe Anka will get her HOTD tomorrow. HAPPY THAT PAIGE IS SO AWESOME ON THE PIVOT!!! PF did that ONCE for me and it was after my farrier did it with her and showed me how. It was in the flat part of her pasture and after that she NEVER would do it again, but I think she was already sick with the cancer.
