How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

That's a good idea, part of an old office chair.
Wow, almost sounds like a summer TS, the heavy rains and winds you got yesterday. Yeah, that'll be an awful mess this am if it's really dwn into the teens.
Dee is eating better, she's just acted a little dull all winter. I need to get her teeth done, but beyond that, I don't have any ideas. I wormed her good in early Jan, may worm her an extra time before I get everybody later in the spring. Costs less to worm than to have a fecal done. She's been kinda hard to keep weight on too, which could be teeth or worms or ?
Well, we had a gorgeous day yesterday (at least that's what I heard), supposed to get rain today, but you know how forecasting goes. Anyway, have a good saturday.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Now you know why I would rather have snow in the winter than rain. But we can not control what Mother Nature throws at us. Just have to deal with it, just say upright.
I think most rabbits have 6-7 babies, sort of like cats, but I should have ask Big Jax Mom, she said they had around 300 rabbits growing up. I do not generally raise rabbits, just pets, but this yr. I plan on trying to sell some at the swaps. But once we had a mother rabbit have 9 of them.
Precious is fine, I check in for redness or infection, so far so good. Washed all the dogs and cat's blankets, and rugs today, to make sure they will not cause any germs to make her sick. She acts like before, but, so far the basement light has not been turned on by her. Before she would be on her bed, (cushions from the couch stacked up) and then jump up and catch the string from the light. The worst thing is, when I ask you did it, she just acts, like "what I did not do anything". Silly Kitten.
Today was very cold again, in the afternoon, winds really picked up. We went out and cut a load of firewood, mostly stuff where they are harvesting the timber, but they only take the main part of the tree, so we get a permit and can pick home a load or two a day.

yay got my Traks today. I'm going to need them. It was really nice this morning then about 2 the winds came in. So I got ready and went to the barn. When I got there all the horses were in. Wasn't sure if Jax was out. If he was he would have been wet. So I groomed him and we played with his brushes. He likes to bit them and hold them in his mouth. lol I put his medium weight blanket back on. It was damp in the barn with the temps going down to the teens I wanted to make sure he was warm. Sarah is buying hay. It looks okay. She said it had a lot of timothy in it. Seems more like straw. But, I may have seen a not so good bale. Right now we are having snow flurries and the water has frozen over. Vicki & Big Jax

Shoot, those sound like some bad falls, especially the one over the bucket. Hope your back is gradually feeling better and more like normal.
I need to get a little stool to trim Cinni, that would really help. Wish I had one of those holders that a horse rests their leg in so you have both hands free to trim, that would help too.
Yay, a warm day and almost all the ice gone? Snow will be a walk in the park compared to the ice, though I know you'd rather not have either one. It'll be warm and grass will be growing soon enough. By the way, did you ever find a used mower?
Rode Allie again yesterday. Didn't have a lot of time and it was pretty windy, so we didn't get much done, but even a short ride is always an accomplishment. It was tee shirt weather here too, supposed to be even warmer today. We have a little green showing up in the grass, not really growing, but greenish, and the horses are doing their best to nibble at it, even though it's super short.
Well, off to work I go. Have a great friday.

Don't you just want to yell at Mother Nature and say "enough" ice! Hopefully, the next few days will turn it all into puddles, and bad memories, specially the spill you took. Here's hoping you will get in the saddle tomorrow and also for nice weather.
We were up in the 40's earlier today, watered and feed Mikey's calves and then stopped by Mom to drop off her garage tubs, (we pick up her cans and recyclables for her), cut up a tree in our pastures and by then it was getting cooler and "felt" like rain. Heard on the weather report, our snow measures are down about 7 inches, not sure if they mean that fell or what is left after 3 days of warmer weather, but tonight temps will fall down below zero again.
Tomorrow I will add more hay to the water tank for the rabbit just incase she will be having babies. Yep it takes about 28-30 days for rabbits, I remember, and still laugh about that because our kids had rabbits for 4-H, and figured they could have 12 batches of baby bunnies a year...they multiply fast enough.

Come visit me, Mistic, Willow & Whisper.

Good you got the hay down. If we get what they claim it's going to be a mess. I wish my taks came. Today was heaven. It made it into the high 40's. My driveway is still like glass. I went out to see Jax I cleaned his water buckets. Then I groomed him. Yay lots of hair. Spring is coming. Not sure when but its coming. We start off warm tomorrow but then the cold comes in. Jax has no blanket on but I'll go back tomorrow about 2 and put it back on. It is going from the 40's to the low teens. Then back up next week. Vicki & Big Jax

When did you fall on the ice? Dang, hope the back feels better soon. Sounds like you have some serious ice going on a round there.
Sounds like it was a good thing you got to lunge Paige the other day since she had the boing-boings. Maybe again today? That would be great if you get to ride her too.
Sorry I missed yesterday. I had an early staff meeting that went over, then algebra went over, then I had to get busy. I did get to ride Allie for the first time in probably 2 weeks or so. She did well, got 2 good spin steps from both directions (way too slow to be called a spin yet) and we loped some figure 8s. It was SO good to be back on!

Funny comic strip, Mike uses the smoke from the outdoor stove for his wind gauge. So far so good with Precious, she did want to go down into the basement with Grizzly this morning, but I am keeping an eye on her.
Took Mom into Ladysmith today, because it was so nice outside. She said she could not see wasting the day doing cross word puzzles. She had to pick up her pills, and it was a nice day. Mother Nature really outdid herself.....I take back all....well, some of the nasty things I said about her. :). Seen 41 one time and NO wind, and plenty of sunshine. Hopefully, we did not hog all this good weather and some of it will reach the east coast, so if it gets to Paige, Rocky, and Big Jax, remember the Queen Whisper had a little hoof in it.
Hear my guinea hen trying to sing in the basement again. Took the female rabbit back outside, a few days ago, I noticed some hair clumps, like as if making a nest. I was way below zero then, but not babies, which I did not think so, because she was never loose when the male rabbit was out, but I remember your theory about having 2 girls or 2 boys and suddenly there are these "magical" baby bunnies. Still watching Mary's doe, because her goat Cindy Lou, did let the male out. It was the night of Mom's birthday bingo party Jan. 20th, so I have marked the calendar on Feb. 17 just to start watching.

If you can just hang in there another day or two, I will send you some warmer weather, I see you said 40's tomorrow. We got into the 20's today, but Mother Nature never plays nice....warmer weather but bitterly strong winds. I had to take Precious up to the vet for her spraying appointment and drove threw "long white wind snakes" nearly all the way there, nearly 20 miles of dead snow snakes now. Some places it was like a big spot of snow was on the road. I have one ear that seems even with a tight cap on must have gotten wind in it. Mike had to drive Mikey to Wausau for his appointment....to check out his bladder for cancer. He said test were all OK.
Precious is still sleeping, put her in a big pet taxis for the night. She did not want any water or food, in the morning I have another pill to give her. For once she looks so cuddly and not a holy tear.
Tomorrow it should be warmer, maybe 40's, hear this morning on the radio that we have been 14 degree below normal, sure did not need them to tell me that.

That's disgusting that they raised the price of salt. What about using stock salt from the feed store, kitty litter helps with traction, although it won't help melt. Scott's doing a bit better, now that he's been reassured by one retired nurse, his PCP, and a cardiology nurse that everything is WNL. MEN!

Nice guy, to raise the price of salts when it's icey out. How much does a bag usually cost? Hate that it didn't ever really melt stuff like it could have yesterday, this morning will be like an ice skating rink out there.
Clay had to drive to Greenville to be seen. They gave him an assortment of things but said he didn't have an infection. Don't think they tested him for the flu though. He said he's feeling better. I made it through work pretty good. Sometimes, going back to work gives your body that kick it needs to really get rid of a bug.
A Tacky friend (who incident shows cutting horses) has her little Tacky gelding in driving school (that sounds funny). She put up a video of him out driving down a dirt road and he looked REALLY good. He's a liver chestnut with 2 hind stockings, so kinda flashy, and that long sweepy Tacky trot was covering some serious ground. Another couple of people are making some cute hunter ponies out of their Tackies, jumping about 2 foot jumps so far. And one guy does mounted shooting off his. So people are starting to get them out there doing stuff.
Well, not sure what today looks like, weather wise. I heard it was almost 70 yesterday though very overcast. Wish I could send you some of this warm to melt stuff up your way. Take care.

That is just terrible that someone would rise the price of ice salt just when everyone needs it. I would really complain to the store manager.....just to see what he would say. How about sand, does anyone sell that for sidewalks instead of salt.
Funeral is on Saturday for my aunt, Helen, she was 95 nearly 96. Today was not too bad outside, got up to 11-12, maybe more, but I very seldom check how cold it is, just look to see if there is wind. I do that by looking at the flower stems in the flower beds to see if they are moving....real scientific way. :)

No, he isnt! Grrrrr! You'd think sitting around bored would trigger the desire to smoke and drink. Were you tempted to throw ice water on him?
Hate that all that rain didn't melt stuff better. Maybe the heat (and sun?) will today, and maybe you can get the kids out.
Clay couldn't find his insurance card at the last minute, so he didn't go, dang it. I really think he needs antibiotics and hate to see him drag out and maybe get sicker. Plus, yeah, I wanted to know what we've had.
We wound up with 3/4 inch from that system before it slid east of us. Talk about mud! And wish me luck, I'm back at work today.

Have to get you an ice pick to carry around, isn't the salt doing any good yet?? Just stay upright, easier said that done sometimes. Tell Kevin we are all going to just shake him up, until he drops his cigarettes and throws up his beer....that will put some fear into him....or he will die laughing at the picture that makes.
Today the wind was up a bit, only -9 but felt colder this morning. Spent a few hours with Mom today, after we got home found out my Aunt Helen had died last night, Mom must not have know yet, or she would have mentioned it. She and Uncle Ray were the last 2 children out of 14 on my Dad's side. I think she is or near 90. She had the flu and has been in the nursing home for a few years, with her husband Andy. He is one of the last survivors of WWII.
Dominic took 2nd in his weight class in Sectionals on Saturday, so next will be Regionals, (next Saturday the 17th) and if he wins 1st or 2nd will go on to State. I keep telling I am still tougher than him with my puny little muscles. Last time I told him that, he picked me up off the floor and was going to throw me out in the deepest snowbank....but I cried "uncle".

Hi & a vote,
Ha, Rocky's stall is always the worst too! He and Indy are alike!
This weekend we had fog and mostly rain, but freezing on surfaces for sure yesterday and today even more icy in the morning.
Yesterday, I was a little afraid of the roads to the North, but in mid-afternoon, had no trouble getting Blue to Agility. This was his last class until April 14, due to agility trials using the facility. They said the owner of the place has one of her dogs in agility at Westminster! They have all nice Aussies.
Then a quick stop at PetsMart to get a new nose harness for Blue. His clip broke on his when he got his nail trim last and must have pulled away hard!!
Next stop barn. Brushed Rocky (and he did shed a few of the longest hairs). Dropped off his supplement that had been delivered to my house. Blue ran around and had fun, there wasn't much rain right at that time.
Sunday a.m. icy. Waited to go to the nursing home until the afternoon with Blue. Everyone was happy to see him and he performed a few tricks for people and got some smiles. Checked on my mother who is mostly recovered now from her upper respiritory infection (relief)! Then left to get home tonight before it gets icy again!! I need new Yak Trax too!! Hope you had a nice weekend.

Yes that is what they do. They have a skidder that brings all the snow to the center of the street. Then another machine loads it like it was a bale of hay into the hugh dump truck. Takes about 3 loads to clean our street. So much better. We didn't get as much as they called for. But, we did get the ice. So no horse time this weekend. At least I got out Friday. If it is as warm as they say, I'll go tomorrow. Waiting for my boys. Mom got called into work. (second job) Vicki & Big Jax

Glad you had most of the day to do stuff before the rain moved in. That's great that it'll help melt stuff off though. So glad to hear that Kevin is doing well and staying the course. I'm sure that's tough, but it'll make such a huge difference. Hope he's able to help you get that fork fixed today. Maybe Honey and Winter can play while y'all work.
The kids looked so good in their FB pics.
The heavy rains stayed just to the west of us yesterday so we mostly only got fog. I think some areas had some flooding.
Well, felt better friday, worse again yesterday, I think better today. Weird. Makes it hard to know when I can go back to work. Clay is doing the same thing, so he's going to the Minute Clinic today and we'll see what they say. I'm supposed to work tomorrow, guess it depends on how today goes.
Anyway, have a great sunday and stay dry.

Wow, that's pretty neat that you can play 5 different instruments. I always wanted one of my sons to play. Rich was the only one interested, he did play the trombone in the school band, later he told me he only took it because a girl he liked played in the band, I remember the cost to rent that trombone, the must of figured because it was yellow it was made out of gold. It was money we did not have, and each month I would take a few dollars from each bill to cover it.
Today it was sunny again, no wind so Mother Nature is getting a bit better, but southern Wisconsin got 9 inches of new snow. Still below zero at night, but we got up to 11 today, and guess what, next week we should hit high 30's, so I will send you all of those leftovers too. It will feel good.

How's Kevin doing, by the way? Haven't heard you mention him lately. Hope he's still sober and taking care of himself.
Clay and I are feeling a little better, just seems to be taking a while. We still have assorted symptoms and tire easily. I've missed 2 days out of work, and I hate leaving them short, but just can't see making it through 12 hrs yet.
We had a sunny warm day yesterday, I think it hit 60. I got Dee's hinds trimmed, they really only needed a light rasping. She tends to drag her toes a little so that she squares them off, so I rasped them back into a more normal shape.
Well, hope you have a great weekend.

Wish there was something to just crush all that ice and carry it away. Much to dangerous, I know some yrs I cleaned the stalls or pens and just threw it out where the horses walked, and even on the driveway. That much snow is enough at one time, hope the rain does not show up. Weird winter weather is sure "weird" this winter. :) We did get up to 8 today, but no wind so was not bad outside. Your lunch sounds good, I like making things in the slow pot, but usually don't use mine, unless for meat loaf.
Hauled loose hay from the round bales into the geese and ducks, they sure make short work out of flattening it all down. Will have to give more wood chips and sawdust tomorrow, with the water pan inside at night, the splash it all over, and it freezes down the woodchips. But they need water to keep their nose clean otherwise it get plugged up with grain and junk. Usually, they go threw about 8 gallons of water....not all get drank, mostly just splashing around.

Scott is doing fine. Angiogram showed no problems, everything is working great. Dr. said he honestly didn't know why he was having chest pain. They are going to keep him overnight, he'll come home in the morning.

Come visit me, Mystic, Cisco, Angel Meg, Bo (RIP) and Jazz & Angel Nugget.

Dee is Kathryn's TWH. Her head is getting that old horse look to it, and she's dropping weight off her top line. She's so fuzzy in the winter, it's a real challenge to keep track of her weight, but I think she's not loosing any more since the worming.
Pulled up the radar and it looks like what you said, we're getting the rain and you're getting the snow. Glad you got the kids to the indoor yesterday, it may not happen today.
Not much going on here except that Clay (my son) came home from work yesterday morning sick and I'm feeling puney myself. Not the flu, but it went straight to our chest, so possibly bronchitis. Ugh. Made a big pot of chicken and dumplings last night and went to bed early.
Well, stay dry and safe today.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.
