How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

Got it right, just a bit of leftover feed this AM. They are now on equal parts Purina Sr and Alfalfa pellets. I know Jazz isn't supposed to get alfalfa, but she LOVES the pellets, and at her age if she wants it, I think she should have it. She only gets about 1/4 of her feed in the pellets. It sure is nice to see her chowing down.

Hi & a vote,
Yup, our weather same as yours, rain for tomorrow and some days to come, but at least not SNOW or ICE!! Yikes!
I wouldn't have time to do anything with Blue like agility if I was doing a lot with horses like you are.
These last nice days have been so wonderful to enjoy!
Last night took Blue for a walk by the river and it felt great just to be out of the house and we were even able to open some of the windows in the day. Imagine that being so exciting! What does that say?

Come visit me, Cowboy, Rocky (the blue-eyed wonder horse) & Comet (has new home).

So glad you had a few nice days together and got to ride. Sounds like Paige is rocking the rides. If she's doing all that flexing, her neck must be completely well, yay. Between the riding and the trailer, you're ready to show.
Ouch, the shoulder sounds like a pain. Joints just don't do well once they're fractured.
Yep, Cinni always grows the most amazing winter coat. I kinda worry she's developed cushings, but so far, she always sheds it all by herself. And usually all at once, lol.
We had rain and high winds all day yesterday. Pretty nasty, especially the winds. Odd weather for the season around here. I had to work anyway.
Well, hope you have a good tuesday.

Sorry, I was not on much again. So nice outside all this last week, believe it or not....we were in the 50's and today 61. Went straight from winter to middle of summer. Still have some snow, but last 2 days it really went down, and of course now it is mud season. Got to go see Rich and family on Saturday, suppose to go next Sat, but Mike did not want me to go to the Center Wisconsin Horse Sale.....said I knew tooooo many people there, who would haul a horse home for me. Even give me the money to buy one. Went to Michaels and go beads for my horseshoe project, and of course a trunk full of animal feed. Quail eggs should hatch in a day or so, hope anyway. First duck egg today, should have been laying early March. Had baby bunnies in the house this week, because it was too cold outside for them....hard to believe that as hot as it was today.

Hi & a vote,
Yes, it was a beautiful weekend in the 60's. I was able to enjoy a nice, relaxing ride on Rocky Sunday afternoon. My friend rode both her horses, first the buckskin and then the black mare. Blue & Hailey were running around, but tired themselves out by the end and were just laying and watching. It was so great to see the SUN and get to RIDE after this never-ending winter.
So seems you are getting the trailer set for show season! Exciting!

Major ouch to your injuries off HT. Do any of them still haunt you? Yeah, it's those first few shots that really startle, then you get used to them.
So glad you finally had a taste of real spring weather. You could get used to it, right? Thats great you'll have help getting the LQ trailer ready for the show season. Fingers crossed for the fridge to work like it should.
We had showers move in yesterday afternoon so I didn't get any horse time. Pulled enough hair off Cinni to cover another pony. Anyway, hope your week gets off to a good start.

So glad you finally had a nice day and got to ride. Paige looked like she was doing so well in your video. Did they get any pasture time yesterday?
Our day was really pretty yesterday. I got my errands done and then rode Allie out in the pasture. We did more of the trot to walk and lope to walk transitions involving circles. She doesn't like to walk for long. She did pretty good, especially considering a neighbor was shooting a muzzle loader type rifle, and those things are really loud, made us both jump.
Well, hope you hae a great suday.

That's a good idea, it may have been something like a snake bite, and the cuts I found were coincidental. Who knows, but I'm glad it's better. I'll keep watching though.
Bullseye needs his trim, huh? Their feet seem to grow fast this time of year.
Not much here. I have a lot of running around to do today, hoping to squeeze some horse time in somewhere. BJ, Gracie, and Cinni are spending a lot of time on the dry lot with a little hay morning and night on the days I work, a little pasture time on the days I'm off. They haven't lost much weight, but Cinni is moving nicely (she founders easily and is often a little sore). Been reading up on horse nutrition and it's scary how easy it is to sugar overload a horse, even with just hay. Oi!
Well, hope you have a great weekend and your weather improves.

It was an absolutely beautiful day here, not a cloud in the sky, still just kinda breezy. I did some chores outside but didn't get to ride though I did trim BJ's fronts. Also, the vaccines arrived, so I'll give them in the next few days.

Glad to hear that your knee is doing well. I hope you do get to lunge and ride today. Hope your day today is warmer and sunny.
Wow, you got to be close up with a fawn! And I guess mama didn't mind since it was "just" a horse. How wonderful! My cool experience with a horse and deer was getting to race a deer on Dixie, who was Gracie's mom. The deer was on the other side of a fence, trying to cut in front of us and get back with her buddies, so we hustled along and Dixie actually came out ahead.
Didn't get to look at Dee's leg yesterday due to work, I'll see what it's looking like today. But I'm starting to think there's an infection in there too.

Hope your knee will be feeling a lot better after the injection and rest and you'll be ready to go. I might need another injection next doc visit in May, but in SI joint.
We didn't get any snow here! Today just cloudy, but still cool.
Blue was so happy to be running around playing with Hailey that he didn't want to get back in the car! Hailey wanted to get in my car cause her Mom wasn't home yet. Maybe she thought it was "vacation" time when she comes with me.
Rocky and his pals were just happy to see their grub. They all got carrots in with their grain. Buddy the barn cat was rubbing all over me for attention and is doing good.

Oookay, HC is still so wonky. Paige's profile, at least as revealed to me this am, has no pics or other blogs, just her profile pic and bio. Hope you're seeing more on her page.
Anyway, glad she's doing better with her neck. It's nice to have a good a good vet, isn't it?
Wow, Botulism can take a horse that fast? No wonder you vaccinate for it. That had to be heartbreaking.
Dee's leg is still puffy. I don't think it's a sprain or bone fragment fracture because she doesn't limp at all. Bute helps it go down. No heat. I'm really puzzled. Looks like the vet may have to come back out, but it'll be into next week before I'm off on a weekday.
It was much less windy yesterday though still with strong gusts, which of course, kicked up as soon as I put my foot in the stirrup. So I only rode for a few minutes and didn't really accomplish anything except to stay in one piece.

Hope your knee does not give you any issues this year for showing. My 2 dead baby bunnies did make it. I stuck them in my bra, to help warm them up then headed back to the house and heated up water in an old fashion, hot water bottle. Brought Mama in later, and she is enjoying all the attention. But her new home is a tote, large one but still not big enough. But very cold out again tonight, water frozen solid over night in buckets. Everything looks like the "great white north". Temps should start a "slow" warm up.
Baby chicks are hatching, so I put geese eggs in the other incubator, they can not hatch in there, because of their high heads, they would burn themselves on the heating elements or get tangled in the fan. I was a day off on the chicks, but at least they are doing something even if there was spike in temperature that one day.

So glad Paige felt good enough to run a bit in her pasture. What a difference from last year! Seems like it took her weeks to get over the vaccines last year. Wow, that's a lot of vaccines! I don't know anyone who vaccinates for botulism around here, is that more a problem up there? EPM is getting common down here, but they say the vaccine isn't effective.
Dee's leg looked really good Sunday (with the all day hosing it got from the rain I guess) but was more swollen again yesterday. They ran and bucked alot in the wind and cool yesterday, maybe that stirred it up again. If it gets warm enough this afternoon, I'll hose it off today and bute again.
Well, like I said, not much horse news. Sat was 80, Sunday 50 with lots of rain, monday 50 with high winds, 34 this am, supposed to be 80 again tomorrow. I did get the west nile EWT vaccines ordered this morning, trying to make sure they get here on a day I'm off so they don't sit out all day. If I get to take Allie and Gracie to any fun shows this summer, I'll give them a flu/rhino later as well.
Well, hope you have a great tuesday

Happy to hear Paige is doing good. Since, you must not have snow any more, how much of the 19 inches we have received would you like?? Better wait it is still snowing, we got plowed out later this afternoon, but now it is all drifted back up. One place North of us got 27 inches in 2 days.
Had to bring Hooper and her new babies into the house. This morning found 2 of them "dead" ice cold. Put them in my bra, to see if I could warm them up a bit, soon I felt scratching and poor little things must have been hurting as they warmed up. I brought them in and made an old fashion hot water bottle from a jar, and soon they were both moving around. Only about 3-4 days old. So Mike help me carry her and the rest of the babies in 7 in total, put them in a tote, with as much fur from her nest as possible, the rest of that fuzzy hair, ended up on my gloves and sleeves. Hooper does not mind being in a tote, but not as much room as her cage.
Winds are still blowing, and everything was white, sometimes today it looked just like a beautiful Christmas card, until I remember it will soon be May. 6 months of winter this year.

So glad Paige and Indy are doing better this year on the shots. Jax gets his shot on the 25th. I have to make sure they do the strangles intranasal. Last year they did the shot. Told her up the nose is better. I heard they had a case of strangles down the road. But it has not been confirmed. Or they are keeping it quiet. They have a lot of horses in and out. They buy from out west. So I don't think I will go to their auction this year because of that. No sense in taking chances. We got the freezing rain last night. It is on and off right now. So I won't be going out to see Jax. I feel bad but not sure how the roads are. The road I have to use people drive at 55 no matter what. Not worth the chance. Did anyone else go to days on HC to zero? I did. Vicki & Big Jax

Sooo glad Paige doesn't have swelling in her neck this year. Maybe it was poor technique and not that she's always gonna react strongly to vaccines.
I think it's just Allie, not the breed. I remember the trainer saying that Gracie's sire was a gentle stud but inconsistent in his learning too. Thank goodness Gracie and BJ didn't inherit that trait.
I spent a lot of the afternoon planting tomatoes and getting them staked and caged to protect them from nibbling by bunnies. I also used old shingles around them to hopefully cut down on weeds and then covered that with straw. Finally got to ride Allie in the evening. I'm really liking that trot or lope circling down to a walk exercise; it seems to be helping her to listen to my seat better (though there's still a lot of room for improvement there) and get softer in her nose. She's doing full circles or more with her slow spins. I want her to learn the right frame and cadence for the spin a little longer, then I'll see if we can add a little speed. She seems to kind of like spinning, so we'll see what she can do.
Well, looks like a rainy Sunday here. Hope you have a good one.

Mother Nature sure has her head mixed up. I looks and feels like the middle of a January blizzard. Had 9 inches by 5 pm, and winds are strong right out of the North Pole. Feels like I should be getting ready for Christmas. We did have a few nice days awhile back, temps were in high 30's and low 40's, one day even seen 49, that must have been summer. I wasted those days cleaning chicken coop out, along with bunny pens, and brushing the horses, here I could have been laying in the snow sun bathing. Snow never melted yet, ground still frozen, south side of the house and around the trees snow is gone, but came back today.
Dominic and a friend of his from school spent Friday night here, plans were for the whole weekend, but late today we ran them home, because of all the snow. Mass or Church was cancelled too. Sadie sure enjoys having Dominic here, because she gets to sleep on his bed with him. Little Chance went home, my sister and hubby were gone for 7 weeks. She said he got fat, but I told her he excepts pancakes for breakfast, sometime oatmeal and eggs with cheese would be great, and he loves cookies and graham crackers too.
Put another batch of eggs in lockdown yesterday, so by Monday, I will see what I get. Incubator "spiked" one day, but hopefully it did not kill all the baby ones.

My beastlette needs a bath too, but I'm waiting for the pollen to finish up. A deer nearly collided with us last night, don't know how it didn't hit us, but I would've been so mad if it dented up truck truck.
I know you and the kids were happy to get out yesterday. Glad the Bute is helping Paige. Hope today is even better for her.
Dee's leg is finally looking better after the hosing and Bute yesterday. Before I hosed it, I felt for heat and couldn't find any. Will repeat the process today too unless she doesn't need the Bute.
I did ride Allie yesterday. Wasn't sure how the ride would go, she was jumping at every little leaf that rustled or bird that flew. Howevwr, I kept her mind busy with this or that, not much time to amble around the ring looking for things to be scared of, lol. I did some loping and circle to a walk to get her to start listening to my seat some. She did well with that. I've found she's inconsistent, what she has one day she might lose the next. Eventually, with enough repitiion, she gets stuff, but it takes a long time to get it every time. BJ and Gracie are solid learners, they seldom lose anything but build on it steadily. Oh well, every horse is different. I also trimmed Allie's and Dee's hinds, though they had hardly grown out at all, just needed a little rounding of the wall.

Hi & a vote,
Hope Paige and Indy are doing ok today after their shots. You hate to see a bad reaction. Sounds like they are doing ok. We won't do vaccines at Rocky's until late May probably. My friend usually makes the appointment for all the horses at once.
Blue would have like to chase those deer. He sees plenty over the years at the barn and on trail rides, so they aren't gonna scare him. He knows they will run.
Tomorrow Blue is supposed to start agility again, but I am just waiting for the text to confirm the class is ON. Then, we will stop in to see Rock too. Up here our temps are going to stay colder over the weekend, the 60's they forecast have been taken back!! Now 40's! Ouch!

We had to sedate Gracie and Allie for their strangles vaccine. Don't know if it's my vet's technique, but they hate it and won't let him do it. And they've all had rabies but I still need to do the other vaccines.
Poor Paige. Can't say she's not smart about it. Sure hope that she has a better year of it this year, but she always has a pretty bad reaction to them. I've recently heard of horses that actually founder after vaccines, so their owners have quit vaccinating them, which would scare me to death. But I guess you can't have repeated laminitis either.
We had a beautiful day yesterday but I had too many chores to get any ride time. I did trim Dee's fronts and then let her graze around the front yard, which she loves. Her hind cannon is still swollen after a kick (I presume) last sunday. She only had a superficial wound, so not sure why it's still so swollen after all this time. No lameness. So I hosed it for a while and probed the wound (yep, superficial, but thin cuts, so maybe wire instead of a kick). I'll hose it again today and maybe Bute her, hope it goes down soon.

It's great to be back on HC. Still have snow, around Easter we received 9 plus another 8 a few days later. Temps are not bad, 30's mostly, but fall down to 0 or -1 at nights.
Baby bunnies are getting bigger, also have 2 more batches. Horses are sure getting ready to be let out, but can not even get gates out of frozen ground. More rain or snow coming, we are in winter weather watch. Have about 25 baby chicks, and the geese and duck eggs I was incubating for a friend hatched out 4 geese and 1 little duck, out of 6 and 2. My geese and ducks are not even started laying....they must know the weather is not right. Normally, geese start end of February, first part of March.
