How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

So I am wondering who ticked off Mother Nature again, for a whole week, I really thought I was getting to like her. Hate to tell you what will be heading your way next.
Snow is not too bad to drive in "if" you can see some path or tracks, but I have driven plenty of nights home from to work/or to work, with barely seeing the ditches. 30 miles of that is no fun, and did not even have a cell phone.
Very cold wind today, and cold snap is coming tonight and for the next few days. Highs in the low teens. Just watch those geese will be sitting out in the snow, instead of being inside with a foot of sawdust to warm their feet. and then the ducks think oh, that must be fun and sit right next to them.
Hope tomorrow the wind do not blow.

Come visit me, Mistic, Willow & Whisper.

Hi Marion, Indy & Paige! Even though it was a pain from the storm, it sounds like you had a fun time at your party. You're getting hounded with snow right now aren't you? I'm pretty sure I saw that on the news. I did get out and see Koot twice this weekend, but didn't take him out because of the high winds. I saw him Friday and Sunday to give him love and treats! Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

Hmm, would have though duallys would do well in the snow. Trying weights might be a good idea. Surprised you did that much driving in that kind of weather.

Hi & a vote,
OMG - I would not have wanted to be out on the roads during the storm this weekend for a longer trip. Coming home from the nursing home was slippery enough!! I stayed in for the rest of the storm. Know wonder you were wiped out after driving!

Hope you enjoyed the Christmas party! Hope you are enjoying your snow days...at lease you will most likely have a wonderful white Christmas. I wouldn't mind a white Christmas.

Yes the snow was fun for two days...but no I wouldn't want to live with it. I was in Chicago one year when my sister lived there. There was so much snow! On the days when it would melt, it was a muddy slush. The cars would get stuck in the snow, it was terrible. A lot of our roads were closed here because people in the south don't know how to drive in snow. lol Have a great week everyone!

Yes, Saturday's schedule would have worn out anybody. Glad you were able to get to and fro safely. Do you put weights in the back of your truck when you go out in the snow? Hope you got rested yesterday and feel more normal today.
I was strating to feel as grumpy as the grinch (well, almost), so I did do a very short bareback ride on BJ, mainly to practice turns on the forehand without reins. I had an odd experience: there was a hawk just the other side of the fence pawing at something in the grass. We stopped and watched him for a while but he didn't fly away, so I hopped off and went to investigate, as much to make sure the hawk was okay as anything. He promptly flew away and I couldn't find anything in the grass except that the ground was churned up a little. I'm guessing maybe he was trying to get at a little mole or something underground. Never really seen one act like that before, especially with a human so close by watching.
Well, off to work this chilly morning. Hope you have a great monday.

Glad you had a good time at the party. We do not go to any parties really, everyone that can make it goes to Mom's on Christmas Day, and we have our sons/family come here "sometimes" during the Christmas season. Once in a great while, Rich will host it, but usually we do. Nothing big, everyone loves pizzas, so we order about 5 big ones from the local bar, or ???? Keep it simple. This yr. having problems finding a date that will work for everyone. Dominic has wrestling nearly every Saturday, and week of Christmas a 3 day event so it looks like Jan 20, and doing the birthdays at the same time. Tristan, Camille, her Mom, Leslie, and mine are all that week, plus my Mom's. Mike's Mom's was also that week but she now celebrates in Heaven. She was a great Mother-in-Law.

Goodess, you did stay busy yesterday. Hope you got to and from that last party okay.
Yeah, you can't find square bales after about sept, so unless you have a lot of hay storage space, which I dont, you have to settle for round bales. It's kinda labor intensive to pull off of a round bale, but you do what you gotta do.
Not much going on here. The snow was all melted off by the afternoon leaving everything really muddy, so no horse time. Instead, I took my daughter to see the movie Cocoa, and we really liked it and had fun together.
Well, hope your sunday is a nice and relaxing one.

Hope the Christmas party was fun for you, should have said, hope you got out to enjoy it.
Chalk another one up to Mother Nature. Snow is fun if you don't have it for 5-6 mts of a yr. Is it cold too. If yours melts, come and get some of our, but we only have about 4-5 inches, we need more to help insulate things. Snow does help keep things warm.
Just got home from my brother's venison cookout. He had it at the cabin my Dad built. Good food, but I do not eat meat, so had to pretend, to take some. Corn, and mushrooms/onions were good. Watching the deer come is was neat, only 2 bucks, and about 5-6 does, I can remember when there would be around 40-50 deer, but that was before the wolves were introduced back in.

WOW...we actually had a SNOW DAY yesterday!!! Can you believe it snowed in Louisiana?? Yes it was quite an experience for us. I think it was 8 years ago since our last snow, but then it was nothing like this one. Normally the snow would melt not long after it hit the ground. We still have snow on the ground today. Everyone was busy building snowmen and playing in the snow. Got some pics of the herd on this snow day, will post on Susie's page. Have a great weekend!

Wow, you stayed busy yesterday. Isn't it funny how you just need more dirt sometimes? I could use a load too.
That's great that everybody's feet are looking good, no cracks or chips. I guess Paige got over being tender a long time ago? And Bullseye being a perfect gentleman, good boy.
Well, I usually peel off the round bales and take it out to them, but you're right, there's so much waste if you just put the round bale out there. And yeah I've heard of fawns being found bailed up in round bales, which is so sad but also dangerous for the horses.
Well, are you sitting down? We got snow yesterday! It snowed hard all afternoon, big fat beautiful flakes. It mostly melted as it came down, but we wound up with about an inch accumulation. Not only is it rare for us to get snow, it's even rarer to get it before Christmas. Fortunately the roads were just wet so I was able to get home from work last night without any trouble.
Hope you have a great weekend and stay warm.

Hate to be the one to tell, you but there is more snow, cold and wind coming your way. Sunday or was it Saturday the warmest, topping out around 30. Then Monday highs around 10 and getting down to -5 or better. Funny, sometimes, it can be in the minus but with no winds, it seems warm. If it is sunny tomorrow, perhaps the chickens can get out for a bit. Maybe not, because by the time we get home from Church, it is so dark, I will not beable to count to make sure all are in.
We were suppose to have a high around 17-19, but I seen 21 this afternoon.
Remember all the raspberries Mike and I picked this summer, well I have 16 jars of raspberry jam sitting on the table now. Still have a few more ice cream pails full of frozen berries to do. Been making low sugar jam, but it makes such a small batch, so did double it twice, if that makes sense. 4 times the berries, like 8 cups at a time.
Tomorrow I should be getting the geese and ducks to care for. I had the pen all ready since she ask me about taking them in. Stay Warm tonight!!

Tues we had a record high of 81, today we tied for a record low of 17 this AM. Chilly, but nice and sunny all day so not bad. Ordered a smaller blanket for Jazz today (and a pair of mudrucker shoes for myself) The blanket I used last night is really too big, plus one of the belly bands tore off during the night and I noticed when I put it on, it had several rips in the lining. Also visited the GoFund Me page for Four Winds Farm (they are taking in horses displaced by the fires in Ca.

Brrr, you've been chilly. Yeah, must be nice to not have to be accurate on your job. During the winter, we're usually warmer than they predict, which is good I guess. I think they get all excited to have something to report on (its going to be cold, it's going to rain, it's going to anow!)
Sorry I didn't get on yesterday, I was off but hit the ground running. Not much going on, horse wise. We only got a quarter inch of rain the other night but its been overcast ever since. When I feed hay, I have to go spread it out in piles for them twice a day. I tried just putting a round bale out there for them to have free choice, but they can demolish it in 5 days, and I can't afford that, nor can I find that much hay to buy the last couple of years due to the drought.
Anyway, the horses are fine. I hope you have a great friday.

Well our weather temps are the same. Except we were lucky no winds. Same tomorrow but by early next week the cold front comes in. Lesson was cancelled. Lexie one thoroughbred hurt himself. told her no problem he is more important. Plus she is moving. That in itself is exhausting. And she is a 7th grade teacher. Hope the winds die down for you. I bet Koot is sending all the winds from California your way. We have had a very windy cold day again. Was down to 4 before when I looked. Rabbits and chickens water freezes up so fast. Well, chickens water turns to slush. But rabbits at least have apples and carrots to eat with moisture in them. I give everyone water 2-3 times a day. New chickens and rabbits have seem to settle in, now Cindy Lou the goat, is a different matter. Wants to stand on the rabbit cages when I let her out, which is a No No.
Horses have the a tank heater so their water does not freeze. I remember what it was like carrying water out all day long to keep everyone watered. Seems like thats all I got done in one day. Before Mike retired, I did all the watering by hand, and carried water from the basement. At that time I had 12 head of horses and 4 steers. But some of the horses were babies, and in the back of the shed. Stay Warm!!

Its not the snow so much as the wind and cold temps, down to 9 right now, and a wind. House feels cooler. Hard to keep the water dishes from freezing for the chickens and rabbits. But I know wild rabbits will eat snow and ice. I water 2-3 times a day, so the usually have something drinkable.
I have not even thought about what to get everyone this yr. for Christmas. Have 3 more to buy for, but will likely just give $$$, as last yr. Everyone is working so and because there are more to buy for, will give a bit less. I put money in the grandkids account each month, and Dominic helps me here, so he always gets paid. In fact, he keeps his "piggy bank" here, so his Dad does not get into it.
I finally, got all my Christmas things down. Did have a few things put up in the bathroom, and kitchen windows, but it was items I found this summer/fall at Connections and a few garage sales. I decorate simple, with pine branches, pinecones, and natural things.

So you are getting the rain we had yesterday and do not peek what is coming next. It's not pretty.
Mother Nature sure is not behaving around here either. Last night I walked out to check everyone around 9 temps were 49, did not even need a jacket, just a heavy sweatshirt, this morning it looked like the tundra. White everwhere, and winds gusts up to 40 miles, temps were 14 and did not make it much higher all day.
Glad I covered the rabbit cages. I have hay bales around them and plenty of hay inside. No one came out of the barn until the winds died down, ate hay and went back inside.
Cleaned pictures which are on 3 shelves around the living room, pictures from the time some of the grandkids were a yr old, so have plenty. I tell them that is the only thing I want for Christmas each yr is a picture of them. And they were very dusty. It seems I decorate all yr for Haloween with all the cob webs I took down. Washed up all the little figurines on Dave's shelf, and felt like crying even more, while I washed his pictures.
Mike went to Dominic wrestling match, 4 schools were there, and Phillips did good. Dominic had a bye and won his second match. Mike just got home and said nearly a family reunion, Rich came from Wausau, Tristan, Maya, and little Ryder from EAu Claire, (Tuesday and Saturday are his days off), and Joe and Mike. I am glad they all get along.....usually. :)

Hate it when I have to run that many errands. Have enough alfalfa pellets to last at least thru Friday, was going into town anyway. Will pick up up a few bags Friday. Sunset's mane is probably about 14", maybe a bit longer, and it is very fine and tangles easily. The worst of it is when it rains, the mudballs really make the tangles bad, and conditioner just won't help with that. And, of course, she is terrified of the water hose.

I'll be right over for the chicken and dumplings Yummy. That makes total sense on Jax. He is definitely a horse that is smart. He will never be for a novice. He is great with kids. Just walks around and when he thinks he has had enough, he goes into a corner. They can't get him out lol. Good that he knows the difference between adults and kids. The trail riding has been tough. The moose (and a bear) live up behind the barn. Think I need to go where we used to ride and never had a problem. Maybe that would help. Yep cold will be here soon. Not looking forward to it. So sorry you had to run errands on such a nice day, but sounds like you were ready for an adjustment. Oh no, you had to do the Lowes/Home Depot thing? I had to do that the other day too, looking for hinges for the front storm door (that neither store had). Hope you had better luck.
The hole was actually on top, so I was more worried about skunks and possums getting in, but that made it hard to get to and work on. It's kind of a temporary fix for now, I'll have to do more on it later, if I can come up with a plan on how to secure it.
Her little hop is more a front end hop. She did it on the lunge line yesterday too. I rode her out in the pasture again yesterday and we did a couple laps at a lope around her buddies in both directions and she did pretty good, didn't get too fast and let me steer her, more or less. I was really proud of her. She may get a long vacation till after Christmas now since I've really got to buckle down and get ready. Between work, family, and friends, I've got almost a million presents to buy (gonna be a lot of gift cards), a little baking, cards, decorating (I've started on that), etc.
Well, hope you can stay snug today and enjoy your chicken and dumplings since it looks like you'll be rainy. We might get a little today too, then the temps drop the rest of the week.

Chicken N Dumplings soup...hope my chickens do not hear that, but it is a favorite here too. Just not my own chickens.
Today is the very last day of our nice weather, temps wise, it also rained most of the day on and off. Nice puddles out there. I forgot to tell everyone, that the gal finally brought down her chickens, rabbits and a goat, still has to catch the geese and ducks. Rabbits are 2 Cinnamon giant breeds know for meat and their soft pellets, and 2 dwarf they have short ears. She lucky I have alot of cages, but everyone is settling in, except Cindy Lou the goat. She is use to being let outside to run around, but we fixed up under the lean-to today, put up wind coverings so she can spend her time outside and run around, her pen is about 24 x 20, but I think she is lonesome, for the ducks and geese. I am going to put the 7 chickens with her tomorrow.
Tonight it is getting down to 17, but right now nearly 10 it is still 49 degree. The rest of the week is down hill, barely getting out of the teens and 20's, with high winds. But it was nice while it lasted. Whisper, Willow and Mistic spent all day out in the big pasture only coming in for water and of course their treats, when I call them in for the night.

Hi Marion, Indy & Paige! I hope you had a great weekend! I had to feed Koot Saturday night so I didn't see him for long; maybe about 20 mins or so and then Sunday I tried out the new saddle pad. I walked and trotted Koot around in the turn out portion where he is during the day to test out the new pad and also try working on his barn sour issue. I worked him at home and then took him out for a short walk and he was being a butt head walking home again. Head tossing and prancing. It took 4 times of me going back to the turn out and working him, then back out for a walk for him to finally walk nicely home without head tossing. In total it probably took an hour which after the 3rd time became frustrating, but we worked through it. I almost wish he wasn't so attached to Maggie, then I don't think this would be an issue. After that I hosed him off and gave him some yummy carrots and treats. Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

So sorry you didn't get any horse time in and the weather turned worse. Sounds like a nice lazy day though, you need those once in a while.
After church, I had a hole to patch in the chicken run, so by the time I got around to feeding and riding, it was getting dark. (I sure hate these short days, you just don't have time for anything.) I did do a short ride on Allie in the pasture and it went pretty well. She's gotten this habit of when I ask for a trot, she hops into this tiny little lope that of course builds speed if I let her stay in it, so I have to work on that. But it's kind of a fun little gait (for about 4 strides) so I don't fuss too much.
Well, it's monday again. Hope it's a good one.
PS. Thanks to everyone for Allie's HOTD!
