How We Met

I saw her last Aug 2011 at our Palomino Show and fell in love with her. Asked if she was for sale, she wasn't.
But came up for sale this springtime, I found her on the internet at a trainer's barn that I know and loved how she progressed in Western Pleasure. I just purchased her on May 29th 2012

Congratulations on doing so well in those big classes! Go Team Paige!
We got rain off and on yesterday, and I didn't have time to ride or work on the deck anyway. Turns out my sister in law was very sick and headed towards kidney failure, infection had gotten into her bloodstream. They're flushing her with a lot of iv fluids and still the iv antibiotics, and her kidney function is getting better. So she got to the hospital just in time.
Well, headed off to work. Hope you have a great friday.

Come visit me, Allie, thanks everyone for June HOTM! & BJ "Ima Git Yer Hat", and his mom Gracie.

Enjoy your show time and stay out of the rain.

Farrier is coming tomorrow at 1. I know their hooves should have been done over a month ago, maybe even closer to 6 weeks, but I just did not have enough money saved up to do it. Calves are eating up nearly every penny I put away. Was hoping to sell th e roosters, but the gal is dragging her feet, and the rain is not helping, because she can not finish making her chicken run. Rained nearly all day today. So much for me bragging the first day of summer was beautiful!! Went to pick up 4 roosters today, and seen so many fields that are just not even worked up yet. Lots of standing waters so that mean corn or oats will not be coming up or drown out. Of course weeds are doing great.

Hi Marion, Indy & Paige! I'm so sorry I haven't been on HC lately, but I'm going to be better now :) How is everything going with you? Koot is doing great! The farrier is coming Monday to trim his hooves. The weather has been cold until this past week so it will be nice to get him out more. Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

Come visit me, Kootenai.

Hope the trip to the show and the show itself are going well and your weather is holding.
I rode Allie yesterday morning. It was damp and slippery, so I was mostly just gonna walk, but we weren't getting anywhere; she kept zig zagging and looking for stuff to spook at, so I wound up doing a lot of trotting and working on softening that face. Maybe made some progress. Then spent the rest of the day in the ER with my sister in law. Turns out she's been battling a raging bladder infection that's migrated into her kidneys and possibly into her bloodstream as well. They admitted her and plan to give her iv antibiotics for a few days. So I've gotta go do laundry at her house, clean up a bit, go take her some stuff at the hospital, etc. I'll be busy again today. We're getting rain this am, so that'll help in that I can't do outside stuff.
Well, hope you have a great thur

Hi & a vote,
I am just back from vacation yesterday (glad I missed Monday's storm). Picked up Blue dog from my friend's house in the evening just in time for Rocky to go out for the night. Blue's tail was going to wag off, but today I think he's missing his "vacation" days at the barn with his BFF dog Hailey. But, Hailey will be staying with us 3 days next week and I will be on full-time barn duty for horses & cats too. FUN!

So sorry you didn't get to leave yesterday. A 5 hr TS, wow! Ours last about 5 mins. That's a ton of rain! I bet Honey was a mess, sure enough. Hope it's all dried out and you don't get much more while you're gone. Looked like sunshine on your FB pic of Honey in the truck. Yay. Good luck at the show.
I got to observe an interesting bit of equine behavior tonight. For a while now, Dee and Allie have been at each other before feeding time, before I can get everybody caught and tied up. The intensity has recently been upped to pretty serious kicking matches, so tonight, BJ took it upon himself to run over and break them up. He had to do it several times before I could get them caught. I was so proud of him. Someone has to keep those mares in line, and it ain't easy.
Hope you have a safe trip.

Steve is very protective of me, if he says Sunset isn't right for me, I will take his advice. Will ask him if he feels comfortable selling her, maybe as a hunter/jumper prospect for an experienced rider. If not, like Ricky was always telling Lucy, "I got some 'splaining to do". Steamy day, been enjoying watching the hummingbirds (5-6) and barn swallows (maybe 20?), hard to count the way they zip around. There also 5 swallow chicks just learning how to fly.

You got to clean house!!! I am still waiting for those "house cleaning fairies" to get the job done. Some places look like I decorated for Halloween already....with the cob webs and dust bunnies. :)
Been raining on and off today, but not enough to stop me from being outside. Took my sister, Becky to look at a different car. Her's is just not safe for driving. She has not worked for months, has some sort of arthritis which cause her hands, elbow, neck, etc. to swell all up for days, so they send her home from work. One month she worked 1 day. I know she has another dr. appointment on the 21st. They keep changing her meds, to see "what works". So my Mom gave her enough money to buy the car, I wish we could have helped out, but all worked out OK. The rest of the day, spent pulling weeds and working around the garden and flower beds. Was going to clean calves pens again, but did not have bedding to change or put down. I wish they would spend more time outside eating, well 3 of them do, but the Lillie and String spend so much time just sleeping.

So glad you didn't get the bad weather they were calling for, and hope it holds off today as well.
Ugh, cleaning house. Did you have nightmares?
I was feeling run down and tired yesterday, so I didn't ride, just did a little groundwork with Allie. She's caught on to the new exercises pretty well, except for the one that requires tight turns around me, imagine that. That's a good exercise for her though, miss stiff-neck. I'd wonder if it was pain somewhere, but she pulls against the tie post just as determinedly, so I think it's her extreme strong will. She's a terror to her herdmates as well, doesn't back down from a good fight ever, even though everybody out ranks her except for little Cinni. Got that pony attitude!
A knowledgeable friend dropped by and gave me a few pointers on the deck, which was helpful. I mixed and added a bit more cement to the holes; what I had just wasn't quite enough. Can't wait to get started on the rest of it.
Well, headed in to work today. I hope you have a good trip if yall get to leave today. If not, I'll HC to you tomorrow.

No riding here for me! Seems like it's either raining and a sloppy mess, or when it's dry there is grass to be cut. I have been mowing grass for three days, at home and at the pasture. The herd is enjoying a life of leisure. Enjoy your week!

Just have a safe trip. and have fun. Does Honey get excited when she see you getting the trailer ready and knows a road trip is coming up??

If I would have thought of digging a "big" hole this spring right in the middle of the lawn, we could have our own swimming pool. Water disappears fast, because the puddles, that I just had to walk threw this morning to feed calves, is now gone. Rained all night, sounded good on the tin roof, and still showers "here and there" called for. I was just being able to walk in the garden after last Sunday & Monday's down pour....now there are little puddles in all my foot steps. Horses got another small pasture made, so happily eating down the long grass. Happy Father's Day to all the 4 legged Dads out there, and the 2 legged ones too!!

Wow, 2 hours in the saddle! That's a good day.
No, the hanger is a simple leather strap of a headstall (a little braiding on it), no fiador or anything extra. I do tie a leather shoelace under her jaw to pull it away from her eyes a bit. I rode her about an hour, did some slow stuff, like shoulder out and turns on the forehand, and some faster lope to trot transitions with a lot of circles. She learns everything pretty good except for that dang giving her nose, she just resists it so much. I've seen horses on their first ride give better than she does after a year of working on it. Anyway, she was good and sweaty afterward so got a long hosing off and then her feet trimmed. Got to work on the posts after lunch and got them all set and straight with Mattie's help. It was nice to spend the day outside.
Well, hope you have a good sunday and can relax a little around packing for the show.

Well, I was downtown taking Mattie to her appointment and stopped at Lowes on the spur of the moment. The mower went the opposite direction away from town to the repair shop. Yep, today is set the posts in cement day, and may go back to Lowes for some more materials, but in the truck this time. And I'd like to get a ride in this am before it gets too hot. The new bosal hanger finally came in and I can set the bosal where I want it. It ties on instead of buckles, so you can really fine-tune it's position.
Glad you got all your grass and weed whacking done, and some relax time with Honey. Its probably a good idea to get a little down time befire this big show.
Sounds like "scattered rain" all day for you? Ours was very scattered, had a good rain over the hospital, but none 1 mile down the road and none at our house.

Absolutely NO excuse for blood on the spurs. Steve rode saddle broncs (PRCA) for 12 years, he said the rowels have to be blunt and they get marked way down if any blood shows, it's mostly for show and making points. He also said the stock contractors get really mad if their stock gets marked up.

That's wonderful that Marissa has Paige so soft, and with very humane training. I bet you were furious to see bloody sides on Paige at the old trainer's. There's no call for that.
Yay for getting the fridge fixed and back in the trailer so quick. Yeah, if you'd air mail one of those guys to me, that would be great, lol. I'll send him back after he fixes the mower...and a few other things around here.
I did get to ride Allie yesterday am. She did okay, considering she hasn't been ridden in a week. She spent the whole time looking for something to spook at without quite actually spooking, just on high alert. I told her Tackies aren't supposed to spook, but she's lived with quarter horses too long, I guess. Also got the last 2 holes dug, picked up 3 more 8 ft long posts and a couple bags of cement...in my Camry. Talk about redneck, that was a sight! And got the mower up to the repair shop (used the truck for that, lol).
Gotta work today, but hope you have a great friday.

Not sure why, but little pheasants just do not seem as active as little chicks. They sleep alot, but then get up and play and like to run back and forth in the water. Just like little kids. Calves still seem to cough alot, specially String, and she only wants 2qts of milk to drink. I make it a bit richer for her.
Lillies hoof seems better, still swollen and draining some puss, but it is not squirting out like it was doing.
We have clay soil and it seem like it was getting drier, until Sunday when it really poured, then Monday too. A bit each day, and next day or so will be dry, then storms again.

Wow, they got your fridge finished quickly! Yay. And that's cute that Honey got so much attention and love wherever you went. Of course, right? Whenever one of the therapy dogs at work comes up to the unit (which is way rare), we can't keep our hands off them either. There's just something about a dog when you're in a stressful environment, like work. I love how dogs seem to do that for us humans.
I did sneak a little 10 min bareback ride in on Gracie yesterday morning (that was your fault for suggesting it, and thank you), but otherwise was busy. Got 4 out of 6 post holes dug (it'll be a small deck to start with). Got the mower deck off but it wasn't going to be an easy fix, like a broken pin or something, dang it. So I need to take it somewhere today and hope they can get it done asap. Mattie has an appointment as well, so it'll be a busy day again.
The feed and seed had some new fly products, so I got a couple things to try, but I'm not holding my breath, not much works any more. And it's funny how everyone reacted to my new post hole diggers..."That's a LOT of work" in a sad commiserating tone of voice. Yes, yes they are. It's a good way to vent my pent up frustrations though.
Well, hope you have a good thursday and the cooler weather holds.

Hot here, but at least some wind. Rain a bit threw the night, but not much. Did not make too much difference because we received just short of 5 inches Sunday and Monday. Hatched out a dozen little pheasants, and a few chicks. None of the other guys 24 eggs hatched, checked each one and not fertile. But he said only had the rooster a few days....da!! Going to give it a try again.

Glad you're making progress with the fridge. I need to borrow one of your fixit guys to fix my lawnmower. It cut a little grass yesterday and then the the blade disengage cable broke. Great, because I REALLY needed something else to do (not!). So I guess I'll take the mower deck off and see if it's something easy, like a broken pin, or if I'll need to take it in somewhere. If the old truck will work. The way things are going, I'm a little afraid to try it. So it looks like no horse time again this week either. Sigh. I'm not a happy camper, grump grump.
I'm just gonna do a small deck for now, hopefully add to it as time goes on. I got it marked out and started digging post holes, but the post hole diggers broke too. Headed to the feed and seed this am and will get another one.

They've moved our chance of rain back to thur or friday as well.
Yes, I do have a plastic ladder that goes up and over and I can get in, but Mattie is heavier and I'm afraid the ladder will bend and break the side of the pool.
I'm so glad I have the last week and a half behind me. I feel like I've been chewed up and spit out, and work yesterday was really bad. I'm off till friday and have a lot to do, but I hope it's not as hectic as its been.

When you get done weed wacking your pastures, come do mine. Buttercup has taken over everything. I use to mow them down, and go back later and spray or cut them down again, but Mike does not want me to use the good mower, and does not want to fix the other one.
I guess I spend tooooo much time working and never really get to do the things I want to do. Barely, have time to ride, then it is only bareback around the pasture.
Clean out 2 smaller calf pens today, 12 wheelbarrow full, did not have a place to put it, so just used the spot where the old hay left from winter feeding was sitting. Hot today, Mike had to take my brother in law to dr. appointment in Eau Claire, so they met up with Tristan and had lunch with him.
The guy gave me chicken eggs to hatch for him, so far he has 4, and my sister gave me the pheasant eggs, looks like 10 so far.
Rained again today, that make5-6 inch of rain in 2 days, radio station in Ladysmith had 4 1/2 yesterday alone. Can not even walk in the garden to check little tomato plants, but I can see the weeds are doing fine.
