PLEASE VOTE STERL MAY JUNE HOTM
GOOD MORNING, LEFT A THANK YOU VOTE, So, let's get right to it. On routine exam all her vitals where good, she, of course appeared healthy, she had regular vacs, wormings and her teeth were good. We drew blood for a complete work up, all neg, with nothing obvious we started the slow process of ruling out, one by one the possibilities. I mean slow because in order to not get confused we needed to give each treatment time to test effects, does that make sense?? Being a Mare, almost 15 and never bred, we wanted to rule out ovary issues first, I was happy and relived when the physical exam and the internal ultrasound was negative, we then went at the simple stuff like corrective shoeing, we tried a course of Regumate and a series of Prostoglandn injection, we tested for neurological issues, we looked at eye issues, double checked teeth and throat, there was no obvious tenderness in her back muscles, however she lounged better than under saddle. Thru all the testing, which took weeks, I still rode her and acted like everything was fine. When Dr. Cook was satisfied that we had ruled out EVERYTHING, he said he needed some very accurate xrays of her spine, he needed us to go to the Equine Hospital in Guelph. He called to make her appointment and I asked Val(our coach) to trailer us up there, and on Jan 15/98 in one of the worst snow storms ever off we went. TO BE CONTINUED. Have a great day, Love Donna Lee & STERLY GIRLY

PLEASE VOTE STERL MAY JUNE HOTM, left a vote
GOOD MORNING, LEFT VOTES FOR ALL, TO THANK YOU FOR YOURS. This is where Sterly's story takes a bit of a twist. FF almost 4 years, we are still at the boarding barn, Sonya is now in University, I still ride 4x a week. I started to notice a slight hesitation from Sterl that was new, she did not want to go forward, at first it was mild, and I could push her thru it, but it got worse. She would actually do a small buck and a very tiny rear when I asked for forward. This was so out of character for her, but ever her resistance was polite, like she was trying to get my attention, she did. Believe me when I say there were lots of suggestion from folks that observed us, most thought that it was behavior and that I was not strong enough and I was letting her get away with it, one woman told me I had to beat her hard enough to make a welt on her skin, that would smarten her up!!!. I chose to call Dr. Cook, I explained the situation and we made arrangements for him to come and see her, I asked if it could be "just" behavior, he said "whenever a horse that was happy with its work begins to resist, they are trying to tell you something is wrong", in the meantime carry on as normal, act like everything is fine TO BE CONTINUED, Talk soon, love Donna Lee & STERLY GIRLY

GOOD MORNING MY FRIENDS,I would like to continue with Sterl May's story, thanks for reading them and commenting on them, because she is 30 and retired, it is also fun for me to remember the early years. THANKS FOR THE VOTES AND SUPPORT. All was well at the barn, Sterly's retraining was in full swing, I still leased Fool Kat, so I was a pretty busy girl, 2 horses to ride 4x a week and the barn was 40 minutes from home, a full time job, a house and husband to take care of plus 4 cats and a dog(Nicky) that I did agility with. The young couple that owned Fool Kat were pregnant and building a new house, they had no time for her but, did not want to let her go. So I was a perfect solution for them. Unfortunately, the baby arrived and the house was ready and they were ready to take her home. I had leased her for almost 2 years, I had Sterly but still it was a sad good by. Fool Kat was 23 when I started her lease, I kept in touch after they moved her home, she was basically a pet, she died quietly at 32. TALK SOON, LOVE DONNA LEE AND STERLY GIRLY

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT....
GOOD MORNING, here it is day 16 already. WE LEFT A VOTE FOR YOU, and a big thanks for the wonderful support. Being a pretty new horse owner, I had sort of thought once I get the first year under my belt, I'd be good to go....Silly me, aren't we ALWAYS learning from them. One thing is for sure, if all horses were like STERL MAY, everyone would have a horse. By now she is pretty much the "sweetheart" of the barn. The owners loved her 'cause she was easy to handle, never caused a fuss and I was there regularly(every chance I had). One morning, Sterl was in the aisle cross ties, I was grooming her and Margaret was touring a new prospective boarder, they got to us and Margaret says "this is Sterl May, she is Standardbred, this horse jumps" as they walked past, I heard the guy say "nice butt!!!" HEY,he was talking about the horse. LOVE DONNA LEE & STERLY GIRLY

You have a very beautiful horse! You're really lucky :) Here's a vote!!

thanks so much for the votes :) we are well on our way towards 600 votes. which means that we could possibly be able to run for HOTM at some point. :3 thank you so much for your support!

An update on me and Allie! SO we have been training pretty hard, and she is really starting to tone up and lose her fat, fat, fat, fat hay belly! hahaha but we have our second show on june 1st and 2nd :3 so we have to train pretty hard for that. We do a lot of natural horsemanship, and that has been helping her demeanor. But she is doing wonderfully and I am incredibly proud of her. thanks for reading <3 count down time to the show and time to start clipping and shaving to make her all pretty for show time! (oh and we finally got our own trailer!!! YAY!)

Please come visit and vote for Allie <3 if you have time read our "how we met" story. She's very dear to my heart <3 trying to get over 600 votes so that she can run for horse of the month sometime ! thanks <3 if you leave a comment, then we will make sure to come vote for you everyday :)

Come visit me, Allie <3.

Week two of the HOTM run, Woohoo!

Question of the day: Has your horse ever been in a near death situation and lived to tell about it? ( or rather whinnny about it)

A long time ago when my fencer wasnt working Dakota used to break out of his fence all the time, and several times ran down the middle of a busy tar road near our place, but never got hit. Another time he was inside his 3-sided shed when a tornado picked it up and completely demolished it, and somehow never got a scratch.
If your horse has ever been in a near death situation, I would love to hear about it!
Thanks for all the support!

Early history of the Welsh Mountain pony.
The Welsh Mountain pony, one of the earliest established breeds, has roamed the mountains and wild regions of Wales for over a thousand years. Descriptions of these ponies from the time of Julias Caesar( when many where shipped to Rome to take part in chariot racing) tell of the beautiful head with huge, bold eyes and small pricked ears. Subjected to the rugged terrains of the Welsh landscape and often severe weather conditions, the Welsh Mountain pony not only survived for centuries, it thrived! Thus has evolved a breed world-renowned for its intelligence, strength, soundness and endurance. Welsh Mountain ponies are justly recognized as one of the finest foundations for horse breeding in the world. GROWTH OF THE BREED IN AMERICA While Welsh ponies were imported to America as early as the 1880's the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America was not established as a breed registry until 1907. Interest in the breed dropped during the depression years , but through the combined efforts of breeders, particularly those in the East, participation in shows and fairs continued. By the 1950's the numbers of members grew, more ponies were imported and interest in increased dramatically. Over the next few decades Welsh became the fastest growing breed in America. Registered Welsh ponies and cobs can be found in every state and also in Canada. To date, over 45000 Welsh ponies and cobs have been registered. USES OF THE VERSATILE WELSH PONY The Welsh breed is ideal for the growing child and has the spirit and endurance to challenge an adult. Today Welsh ponies and cobs can be found competing in nearly every discipline...hunters,driving, dressage, combined training, combined driving, English and Western pleasure and heavy harness. Please support my Welsh Mountain pony Dakota during his Nov. HOTM run! Maria, Dakota N the girls.

Late Thursday night I received an invitation to a Friday horseride . Friday's ride was delightful. The weather was nothing less than perfect and the horses were behaved as well. There is nothing better than crossing beautiful country on a fine horse! Little Cowboy was a bit upset about me riding while he was in classes. But I assured him, if nothing happens, he will be riding the same area in about 2 weeks on our horse club ride. That made him feel a little better :)
Today is filled with showers of rain and cool temps. Little Cowboy is sad, because he wanted to ride out. I am trying to help him understand we need the rains.

Jasmine, our no longer lost friend, was jumpy when they found her, but when she got home with her herd, she was calm again and extremely thirsty.

Do Something Horsey!!!
Hope the weather where ever you are is very nice and you enjoy a beautiful and blessed weekend,

Try talking to some individuals with horses. I always dreamed about working with horses. I used to and still read anything I can get my hands on about them . There was a lady at my church with some, and she let me help with chores, and with the horses and some riding. I also learned alot about feeding and such. I gained a lot of experience from her, which later prepared me for when I got my first horse. Good luck! Hope you're dream someday comes true. Don't give up and keep working toward your goal!

Jasmine & her owner, is one of our trail riding partners. 6 weeks ago I mentioned in a blog that Jasmine, a Palomino TWH mare, was lost at Stone Mtn State Park during a riding trip. Jasmine walked away while her owner was assisting another riding partner, who was pinned under her horse after it's back hoof slipped into a hole on the trail. No one was seriously injured, but Jasmine was lost. It is a relief to know Jasmine was found September 26 and back at her home that morning. Jasmine has lost about 150 lbs. The saddle slid under her belly which caused a sore across her back. She was on Fox8 news last night. Both Jasmine and her owner looked very happy!

Have a beautiful and blessed day,

When I see horse people that I have met only once or twice, I always remember their horse first and then I most often have to ask them for their name again. Sometimes I can remember the horse's name but I forget the person's name. Do you ever have that problem? It's kind of awkward because I can talk to them about their horse, and call their horse by name, but I forgot their name.
