How We Met

I was looking for a thoroughbred horse already trained to do eventing on. I had checked out several barns looking at horses but none seemed right! We had one more stable to check and when I walked into the barn he poked his head out of the stall door I knew he was the one!!!!! My dad said he knew I had my heart set on him so now he'll be mine!
I already love him to death!

Hello again!
After church today I'm hoping to get to get a quick ride in. The weather has been so lousy lately (either too icy, too muddy, etc) that it hasn't been safe to ride. I really miss my saddle time. So, maybe today? we'll see. I left Pride a vote, and have a horsey day!

Happy Friday!
I spent the big blizzard vacationing in Orlando, swimming in the hotel pool (yeah, I know, I'm a brat LOL)! I didn't do anything "horsey" on vacation, but the theme parks were fun, and I got to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, because I'm a big Harry Potter nerd. My kids even talked me into riding a big scary loopy roller coaster...yikes!
I left you a vote. Have a horsey day!

hey tori, please come back!! I lost one great friend on here and I don't want to loose you too!!!! can I have your email please? If you don't want to give yours out on HC, mine is in SweetPea's "how we met". Please email!!

here to wish you a very happy and blessed CHRISTmas. Don't forget the true meaning of Christmas-Jesus came down to Earth as a Man, and later He died for our sins.
This Christmas could be sad. My grandpa (my Mom's dad) has lung cancer, as most of you know, and he is very very sick. Last night we were all there and we said 'good-bye' to him. He wanted to die, he had so much pain. Well, he didn't, and Mom is over there this morning. He had a beautiful prayer last night, asking protection for all those who travel for his funeral, and he said several times "Jesus, please!" I don't want him to suffer, yet it will be a sad Christmas for my grandma if he passes away. At least he will be in Jesus' arms with no pain. ♥

Tonight, we are going to have a candlelight supper, then open our gifts, like we usually
do. I don't know yet what we are doing Christmas day. Mom is pregnant and due any day, now, so anything could happen :)

I went riding and ponied Flicka yesterday with Sharon. We ran a lot and it was really nice. I hope I get to ride on Christmas day.

I'm listening to Christmas music (Casting Crowns) on and its so beautiful!!

hey missing you tori and pride!
I BELIEVE.....The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.
Psalm 93:3-5

We are having steady rain and strong winds, but nothing out of the ordinary yet. My prayers are with all those that are getting hit worse.

On Saturday (Caturday!) I rode for 3 hours with 6 other girls. It was so beautiful, the ground was a carpet of gold and red!! We cantered for long stretches at a time, it was just amazing!!

Sunday I was lazy, went to church in the evening. It was miserable all day, so I didn't ride at all, but probably wouldn't have anyway since Sweet Pea was so good for me on Saturday! She hardly pulled at all, and at one point, we were cantering behind the others, and I had the reins "at the buckle", really slack and she stayed steady!!! I was pleasantly surprised.

☆ Remember to pray for Hailey's freind Ginny, she was driving her horse and the cart flipped and she broke her neck.

☆ vote Maria and Dakota HOTM!! And help BLAZZE get 600 votes for her "HOTM".
Also, vote Laura and Tex HOTM.

☆ Vote Jasmine (#240407) for HOTD.

☆ My grandpa is still not feeling very great. The doctors said that they could try not doing the treatments so often, and then he wouldn't be so sick, but they'd have to stay longer. Pray that they have wisdom to make the right decision!!

Love you all,

The extraordinary environmental conditions of the Arabian Peninsula demanded the evolution of a superior equine athlete of exceptional intelligence and uncommon courage. Strength, fortitude and tenacity of constitution were paramount if any horse were to survive life as a warhorse on the rugged terrain. Swiftness and endurance were vital to the success of raids, and only those Arabians with the best combination of these nearly polar attributes were fortunate enough to escape the dangers of battle and earn the respect of their masters. The story is told of the great loyalty these horses would exhibit to their masters. They would be trained as young two-year-olds to respond to a bell, and then they would be left in the desert heat with no water until they became very thirsty. They would then be released near a body of water and right before the horses would reach the water the owner would ring the bell. The horses that would respond and come even in adversity would be chosen as the best and later would be bred to pass on their great loyalty to their offspring. Vitality of spirit and courage were also essential to success in battle; this was to be tempered by intelligence and kindness as both a willing mount and as a large domesticated mammal forced to live in close coexistence with the spartan, mobile life of his keeper.

Question of the day: If you had the choice of two free horses, one gorgeous but completely wild, and one of them very ugly, but well trained, wich would you choose?

Thanks for all the support, enjoy your weekend, and don't forget to vote Dakota for your Nov. HOTM!

Hey Tori and Pride, missing you :~)

Sweet Pea is galloping by to kick your horseshoe. It's so beautiful that she just feels like RUNNING and KICKING for JOY!! You know those days-that are so clear, and crisp and sunny that they just want to make you take a deep breath and R-I-D-E!!!
Well, I didn't ride today, but I did let the horses out in the meadow, which they enjoyed! I was playing the guitar a lot today, my fingers are soooo sore!! I can play (clumsily) 3 songs....of course they are just strumming and changing chords not very often, but it's SO much FUN!!
I don't really have any news, but I want to hear all about your day!!! I hope it was great!!

Love you, and Happy trails,
Andrea and Sweet Pea

Wow, I just read that Pride is related to Man-O-War and war Admiral! That's very cool!
Thanks so much for your was such a wonderful surprise to see Luna had been voted HOTD...and she wasn't even running for it! I gave her extra carrots, of course. I went riding yesterday, but afterwards I tried something I saw in a YouTube video. I started teaching her to "shake hands" (or hoofs? LOL). She started getting the idea of what I want after about 15 minutes. She doesn't offer up a hoof on command yet, but she started lifting her hoof towards me (instead of backwards, as if I was going to clean the hoof)and letting me hold it as long as I like. So that's progress, and today I will repeat until she gets it. It's just a stupid trick, but it's fun!

It's getting real cold around here now, but that won't keep me away from Luna. Have a horsey day! Voted.

Happy Monday!
I'm sorry it's been so long since I've been on HC. I was recently laid off a job I've had for 10 years (a merger/corporate buyout thing), so I've been busy dealing with that.

I did buy a new saddle though. I've ridden English my whole life, but a friend encouraged me to try Western, so I got a Western saddle for trail rides. I didn't know how to do up the girth though, so I felt silly asking someone to help! I admit, though, it was a REAL comfortable saddle.

I've been having such a blast with Luna lately. She's really become quite friendly, almost like a dog.
Yesterday, she was laying on the ground when I went out to see her, so I just went right up to her and laid down with her! It was so fun!
This Illinois weather sure turned cold fast, didn't it? It won't keep me from riding, though; I'll just bundle up more. I guess Winter is definitely coming LOL!
Have a great Monday, and I hope you have a horsey day! Voted.

**And congrats to Jesse, our HOTD winner!!!**

Hello, fellow horse lover!!! I was so surprised when I saw an email from HC this morning. I had won HOTD on Saturday. But, too bad, I was offline!!! Thanks so much for voting for me, even though you weren’t trying to get me HOTD, it still means a lot.

How was your weekend? I hope it was a good, horse-filled one!! Mine was pretty horse filled!!
On Saturday I rode for an hour with my neighbor and friend, Andrea. She owns a 3 year old Paint gelding, Twist. We didn’t run at all, so after we came home, I galloped Sweet Pea up the field lane and around the meadow a little.
On Sunday I rode with Andrea’s sister, Cheri, and her chestnut, 6 yo mare, Autumn. We went for about 1 1/2 hours. It was a lot of fun!! I ponied Flicka, and she did absolutely perfect!! She really enjoys it, and it’s a great way to get both horses exercised at one time.
Today (Mon) I did groundwork with both Flicka and Sweet Pea. With Flicka, I worked with staying out of my space, putting her head down, going over and around poles, and a new thing; ground tying. She was really great with that. Then I got her to stand (by putting my hand on her forehead and saying HO) and I walked away and got her to come to me. She’s so sweet and willing!!
With Sweet Pea, I did pretty much the same thing. Sweet Pea has a little problem of thinking “I don’t need to follow you, I’ll just b-a-r-e-l-y come W-A-Y behind you”. Well, I tried to teach her to follow right at my shoulder.

Hope you have a wonderful Monday :~)

And to those who asked; yes, GREAT EXPECTATIONS did meet my expectations, it was GREAT!! I watched the oldest version, I think it’s 1964 or 1946. It was black and white.

I love you all......
Happy Trails!!

HI, left a vote. SO sorry I haven't been on lately. My hand is still pretty bad. The baby, the horse, the computer, and now my puppy, oh and house cleaning, is just taking it's toll on my hand. Not sure if I will be able to run Logan for Dec. HOTM, don't know if I will be able to blog every day. Anyway, the farrier was out on Monday, pulled Logan's shoes for the winter. He was great for the farrier! I worked him in the round pen on Wed. just light work. Today I went out to ride, and he is SORE! He is flat soled, and he was limping off and on with the right front, poor guy. Will have to throw the shoes back on, at least the fronts anyway. I did check for heat, swelling, there was none. He must be pretty tender footed. We were going to sorting practice tomorrow, but not now. :( I didn't ride today, he gets to be a horse until the farrier can come back out. I did just get a new puppy, he is a mini aussie, named him Charlie, he is so cute. Lots of pics on my fb page. I will post one on here soon.

Oh, poor Pride! Not so proud anymore? Ah, he'll get over it! :) How are you doing? Enjoying a nice weekend? It's still hot here during the day but quite cool at night. No frost yet which is great. More garden veggies!

Been working on setting up a pen for Eddie within Pippin's big day paddock. It will be small but enough for Eddie at night. During the afternoon the two of them will be loose together and I'm pretty sure Pippin will be boss. Eddie is more submissive and Pippin is anything but!

Tomorrow we'll finish the gate, shed, and posts, and Eddie will be coming Tuesday morning! I can't believe we're finally going to have a big horse. Actually, he's a HUGE horse. He's 18.2hh and Pippin is 31". Can't get much bigger a difference than that! Should make for some great photos and video.

How's everything on the horse front for you? Any adventures this weekend? Here's a vote for you and there will be photos coming soon!

Hi, sorry I'm so behind on my blogs. I've got some exciting not a new horse, lol. I've been made into a Supervisor on! I am in charge of all categories Equine. I was made a 'Super' after showing , as they put it. " An extremely high knowledge of horses, horse care, training, and breeding practices." So now I'm going through their training/mentoring program, I'm learning to do all kinds of stuff on the site that I couldn't do before. The only 'down side' is that it's a volunteer position and I don't get paid for my services, but it's still an honor to be asked to do it. I'm really excited about this as it is something else I can now put on my job Resume. I also have a question for anyone who can answer it. I was looking at various types of horse bedding, pine shavings seem to be the most affordable in my area. But what I'd like to know is how much of your stall(s) do you bed? How deeply do you bed the stalls? And how much bedding do you seem to go through in one years time? I'm trying to get a rough estimate of what I would need exactly for in the hopefully not too distant future. Thanks for any help you can give.

How is Pride adjusting to being a gelding?

Come visit me, TJ (And friends).

Hi everyone...Joey, Ginger, & Angel Betsy filling in for Paula & PF:)Thanks for sending answers to yesterdays question.

To a horse, relationship is everything. Every move a horse makes is determined by the relationship that exists between her and the other members of her herd.

Her herd is her life-entirely. If you or I aspire to become the leader of a herd (which we all need to do if we wish to enjoy the company of our horse), we must cultivate that relationship, not just happen upon it. Before we can develop a relationship with a horse, we must first get acquainted with the individual. We must spend time getting to know who rather than what the horse is. There have been hundreds of books devoted to the subject of what the horse is, but only through passive observation can we discover who horses are. Horses are intelligent, and horses are unique individuals.

How does your horse react when she first notices you're around?

Have a fantastic day! Love ya-all

Paula, St Antoine, FRANCE, International.

Happy Friday everyone...Paula's husband surprised her with a weekend trip to Rome, so the girls and I will be filling in for a couple of days. I thought since Paula had such a wonderful trusting relationship with PF it would be fun to blog from a book/journal called Time Well Spent. I'd love it if you would like to respond to the question.

When developing a relationship with your horse, there is no substitute for spending time together.

Time well spent with your horse means much more than performing daily tasks in his presence. It means time spent observing him; it means unencumbered time spent living near him, for there are many things about your horse that you don't and can't know unless you spend time together.

Does your horse enjoy the company of other species, including dogs, cats, and even birds?

Have a fantastic weekend...Love you guys! Joey & Crew
