Early history of the Welsh Mountain pony.
The Welsh Mountain pony, one of the earliest established breeds, has roamed the mountains and wild regions of Wales for over a thousand years. Descriptions of these ponies from the time of Julias Caesar( when many where shipped to Rome to take part in chariot racing) tell of the beautiful head with huge, bold eyes and small pricked ears. Subjected to the rugged terrains of the Welsh landscape and often severe weather conditions, the Welsh Mountain pony not only survived for centuries, it thrived! Thus has evolved a breed world-renowned for its intelligence, strength, soundness and endurance. Welsh Mountain ponies are justly recognized as one of the finest foundations for horse breeding in the world. GROWTH OF THE BREED IN AMERICA While Welsh ponies were imported to America as early as the 1880's the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America was not established as a breed registry until 1907. Interest in the breed dropped during the depression years , but through the combined efforts of breeders, particularly those in the East, participation in shows and fairs continued. By the 1950's the numbers of members grew, more ponies were imported and interest in increased dramatically. Over the next few decades Welsh became the fastest growing breed in America. Registered Welsh ponies and cobs can be found in every state and also in Canada. To date, over 45000 Welsh ponies and cobs have been registered. USES OF THE VERSATILE WELSH PONY The Welsh breed is ideal for the growing child and has the spirit and endurance to challenge an adult. Today Welsh ponies and cobs can be found competing in nearly every discipline...hunters,driving, dressage, combined training, combined driving, English and Western pleasure and heavy harness. Please support my Welsh Mountain pony Dakota during his Nov. HOTM run! Maria, Dakota N the girls.

Wow, this past week has been crazy busy! Family was in since Monday from Iowa and Wisconsin, and we’ve been back and forth to our grandparent’s house until up to Sunday. (I’m writing this on Tues.)
Yesterday I finally started was actually kind of fun. Except my Science and Social Studies are sooo boring. But I really like my Literature.
I haven’t ridden Sweet Pea for a while.....the first time in like a week was two nights ago about an hour. She did great, but I get so frustrated when she walks crazy fast on the way home. Any suggestions to get her to just chill on the way home. Sure, I know she’s anxious to get to her corral again, but she doesn’t have to jig the whole way! Anyway.....
Last evening I lunged Sweetie a bit, trying to teach her to canter on the lunge. Again, advice is (very) welcome. She just wants to either trot vvvveeeerrrryy fast or gallop!
After that I lunged Flicka. WOW. She responded to just voice commands and slight movement of my body. She even cantered steadily and smoothly with out pulling! I love my filly.....

Autumn is upon us...most cornfields are bare around here and today the sky was clear blue with white puffy clouds, and the most delightful fresh, crisp air made you want to run and jump!!

I love my horse friends!!

Congrats to SNOWWHITE for winning HOTD!!

Last night I did groundwork with Flicka. Walked her through an “L” shape (made with poles) and around some upright pole bending poles.
Then rode Sweet Pea a little with the English and the snaffle and gave rides to my cousins.....
Sorry this is quick.....this week is so hectic! Might not be able to vote and blog till Monday......

Hope you had a great day!! Please tell me about it :)

Lots a love,

Happy Labor Day Weekend to you! I was hoping to blogg & vote last night, but it did not work out.
My brother & Buttercup were here at 10am and we left out for an all day ride. We rode until 8pm. This was Fancy, Trigger, & Little Cowboy's longest ride ever. It was fun, just like in the old days when we were much younger!
We rode kids and a few ladies. We played around on some old stomping grounds. These places I have not been in at least 10 years! I remembered cantering through a row of small tress. Well now this row of trees is full grown and the limbs don't allow cantering through them. I did take Fancy down a three tier hill. That was fun. The first time she stepped so daintily and perfect. The second time my brother videod it and she did not step as cautiously.
Trigger was very quiet and dependable as usual. Buttercup has more attitude than she knows what to do with. While my nephew was riding her she threatened to kick Fancy and we were not even very close to her. On a previous ride Buttercup threatened to strike Trigger with her front feet. At least Buttercup was nice to Trigger this time. She allowed him to ride close to her all day.
Little Cowboy has planed on riding Friday, Saturday, and Monday. We shall see what happens on today's ride. Last night Little Cowboy told me he would like a much shorter ride today. He said Trigger needed to rest. Little Cowboy was so tired he feel asleep quickly and so did I:)

We are happy, but very tired from our 2 hour ride, getting a roll of hay, and other chores.

I am taking longer than usual tonight because I am not on my computer. I am learning to use a laptop. It took a while to figure out how to copy and paste. LOL. I just learned to do these things on a desk top and now I try something new. It feels different and it is fun to learn new things. I guess I am proabably to last person on HC to touch a laptop. Here goes!!! And Little Cowboy is helping me! He should be proud. I helped him learn to ride and he is helping me learn to compute :)

Our church is different from most baptist churches here. They are a bit stricter, but not over bearing about it. I mean we are taught with love. We are taught to seek the way Jesus wants us to do things and not the way man wants to handle things.

It has been an even better day of riding for Fancy and I. After school we only let both Fancy and Trigger graze in the back yard.

Did you get to spend time with your equine pal today?

Enjoy an exciting week back in school!

Little Cowboy is loving Middle School! Well school has been in 2 days now and Little Cowboy is about to talk my head off - about school! This is a new phase, I kind of enjoy it. LOL :)
While Little Cowboy worked on his homework, I took an hour ride out with Fancy. Upon my return Little C is riding his bike. He tells me he was a bit angry to see I had left him and Trigger. So, I rinsed Fancy while Little C let Trigger graze and then we saddled Trigger and Little C got his horseride while I walked along. Fancy neighed a bit from the corral, but I think it is good to separate them sometimes.

If you or your children are in school, are there any school related activities that give you the opportunity to include your love of horses? Little C involves his horses when ever he can. Usually that would be a story, report or an art project. I can not wait to see what he may do this year. One year he did a project on Coyotes because of the foxes that live in the woods around our house.

Rest well & enjoy an exciting week back in school!

After dropping Little Cowboy off for his first day at junior high school, Fancy and I enjoyed an outing. This was the first time I rode in several days. Fancy was pretty good. A few times she worried for Trigger. But she was more good than bad and I let her graze in a few places. It was nice to enjoy some time with her.
Are you planning any thing special to celebrate back to school days?

Please pray for Andrea's (with Sweet Pea #192859) grandpa, he has a health issue.

Rest well & be ready for an exciting week back to school!

hey anna, have fun at that monster truck show!!
Blue Marsh was today!! We left around 7:15, drove for an hour to get up there. We ate lunch around 12 at a boat ramp. The trail always stayed close to the lake. It was really pretty. There was one part where we went on this sandy trail right by the water's edge. We let the horses drink and splash there. We ran a lot before lunch, but not so much after lunch. Sweet Pea did good, but tried to run away with me once. I think she was a little apprehensive with 6 other riders and new surroundings. Well, she was there 3 times before, but it was still pretty new. I was so tired and sore by the end of the ride. She was tired too, and lost a lot of weight. When we got back to the trailer, we took them down to the lake to let them drink, she stood there and just drank and drank and drank! Then the one horse, Trigger, layed down in the water. Luckily his saddle was off.

Trigger is a beautiful buckskin. He's Flicka's grand-sire :~) I'll upload a picture.

God bless you all,

That's nice that you are getting a cold front. Hope it comes to us soon. I'm sitting here sweating :~( well, i just biked, so that might be it.
Yes, i LOVE riding in the snow. ONce a couple winters ago, we went up to a large hill near us, and we couldn't go any farther because the horses were plunging and leaping to get through :~) it was so much fun!

hey anna didn't reconzine your horses are first :~)

thanks for visiting me. I'm homeschooled ,and my schoool starts when ever my books and stuff get here, should be any day now.
sorry this is really quick

I BELIEVE....sometimes God works in ways we totally don't understand. But we have to accept His will as best for us, which it is. God ALWAYS works this out for good. Always.

Hello HC friends!!! It feels like I haven't been on here forever!! I started a blog: Check it out! Anyway, that's what I've been working on for the past couple days.

I had a riding lesson on Monday. I noticed that Felicia was really tense and not really enjoying it. So I went through some excerises, like touching Sweet Pea's ears and hindquaters, and touching her toes. Riding with out stirrups and riens.

That worked great to relax her. Then we did some poles and I led her through a barrel pattern I had set up.

We trotted just a little, and she was much more relaxed.

Karo did really well too.

I was planning to go to Sight and Sound Theater and see "Jonah". See link:
But, when we got there, the tickets were sold out :~(

I am planning to ride this eveing. Blue Marsh is on Saturday!!

happy trails,
andrea and herd
