Farrier is coming tomorrow at 1. I know their hooves should have been done over a month ago, maybe even closer to 6 weeks, but I just did not have enough money saved up to do it. Calves are eating up nearly every penny I put away. Was hoping to sell th e roosters, but the gal is dragging her feet, and the rain is not helping, because she can not finish making her chicken run. Rained nearly all day today. So much for me bragging the first day of summer was beautiful!! Went to pick up 4 roosters today, and seen so many fields that are just not even worked up yet. Lots of standing waters so that mean corn or oats will not be coming up or drown out. Of course weeds are doing great.

Hi Ace, I'm so sorry I haven't been on HC lately, but I'm going to be better now :) How is everything going with you? Koot is doing great! The farrier is coming Monday to trim his hooves. The weather has been cold until this past week so it will be nice to get him out more. Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

Hi & a vote,
I am just back from vacation yesterday. Picked up Blue dog from my friend's house in the evening just in time for Rocky to go out for the night. Blue's tail was going to wag off, but today I think he's missing his "vacation" days at the barn with his BFF dog Hailey. But, Hailey will be staying with us 3 days next week and I will be on full-time barn duty for horses & cats too. FUN!

I got to observe an interesting bit of equine behavior tonight. For a while now, Dee and Allie have been at each other before feeding time, before I can get everybody caught and tied up. The intensity has recently been upped to pretty serious kicking matches, so tonight, BJ took it upon himself to run over and break them up. He had to do it several times before I could get them caught. I was so proud of him. Someone has to keep those mares in line, and it ain't easy.
Hope your week is going well.

Lots of short runs today. Had to get some more pepper plants seems the ones I had planted "drown". But no pepper plants at a little local greenhouse, so will have to check big box stores. Or else just plant the tiny ones I have. Did buy pansy and a few other flowers.
Stupid fox was after a guinea this afternoon, out in the field seen the guinea jump up and fox right after it, and me right after the fox. Chased it across the field nearly to the rock pile, where it must have dropped it, it did die, but at least she will not be a meal for the fox. Quickly I moved all the rest of the guineas into the pen and rounded up the hens outside.

I think I may have had my last ride on Jazz, she's been stiff in her R knee since last week. Steve is very protective of me, if he says Sunset isn't right for me, I will take his advice. Will ask him if he feels comfortable selling her, maybe as a hunter/jumper prospect for an experienced rider. If not, like Ricky was always telling Lucy, "I got some 'splaining to do". Steamy day, been enjoying watching the hummingbirds (5-6) and barn swallows (maybe 20?), hard to count the way they zip around. There also 5 swallow chicks just learning how to fly.

Been raining on and off today, but not enough to stop me from being outside. Took my sister, Becky to look at a different car. Her's is just not safe for driving. She has not worked for months, has some sort of arthritis which cause her hands, elbow, neck, etc. to swell all up for days, so they send her home from work. One month she worked 1 day. I know she has another dr. appointment on the 21st. They keep changing her meds, to see "what works". So my Mom gave her enough money to buy the car, I wish we could have helped out, but all worked out OK. The rest of the day, spent pulling weeds and working around the garden and flower beds. Was going to clean calves pens again, but did not have bedding to change or put down. I wish they would spend more time outside eating, well 3 of them do, but the Lillie and String spend so much time just sleeping.

I went to the feed and seed to buy new post hole diggers, and they had a lot of new fly products, so I got a couple different things to try. Not holding my breath, seems like the flies are immune to everything, but gotta try. It's funny, everybody reacts to seeing post hole diggers the same..."That's a LOT of work" in a sad, commiserating tone of voice. Yes, yes they are. I got 4 out of 6 holes dug for a mini deck beside the pool. And if you're thinking the pool was too much to resist after digging and sweating out in the hot sun, you're right. It felt soooo good to jump in.
Well, hope you have a great thursday and stay cool.

I guess I spend tooooo much time working and never really get to do the things I want to do. Barely, have time to ride, then it is only bareback around the pasture.
Clean out 2 smaller calf pens today, 12 wheelbarrow full, did not have a place to put it, so just used the spot where the old hay left from winter feeding was sitting. Hot today, Mike had to take my brother in law to dr. appointment in Eau Claire, so they met up with Tristan and had lunch with him.
The guy gave me chicken eggs to hatch for him, so far he has 4, and my sister gave me the pheasant eggs, looks like 10 so far.
Rained again today, that makes 5-6 inch of rain in 2 days, radio station in Ladysmith had 4 1/2 yesterday alone. Can not even walk in the garden to check little tomato plants, but I can see the weeds are doing fine.

Very stormy wet day, still pouring out right now, with lightening and thunder, the sky looks very angry. But the ground was getting dried out, so rain is good. Farmers here are still planting.....and already cutting first crop hay....go figure. Lots of fields might not even get planted.
Went to Wausau, (100 mile one-way trip) for grandson Richard's birthday. He was showing me his lizard, and of course his turtle, General. Started raining and storming just after we got there. Then coming home around 3 stopped in at a graduation party in Tomahawk, more good food, and company. Took forever to get chores done, and lock everything up tight, see a fox right behind the barn last night. Collected guinea hen eggs, because the same hen that hatched out chicks in March wants little babies ones, so I fooled her and gave her guinea hen eggs. She is in one of the rabbit cages, high off the ground in the shed. Her young chicks want to sit with her on the nest, so that would not work too well. In a week I will give her 2 or 3 chicken eggs. Now it is really storming out, lost the internet before.

Hot here today, one calf will not eat, coughs alot, so another sick little girl, Mike gave shots, and Vit. B, I fed her with a smaller bottle and easier soft nipple, she did drink nearly 2 qts, and I just came in to make dinner, then give some electrolytes this afternoon. Other calves had this too, did not want to eat for a day or so. Horses are standing in the door way sleeping in the breeze. Put the pheasant eggs and a guy who ask me to try to hatch some of his eggs for him. Hopefully, all 24 of his will hatch.

It is nice to be back on Horse Channel. If they do finally shut it down, I might as well not have a computer. My opening home page is to HC, which Dominic thinks is so funny.
Tomorrow is going to be hot, so cleaning out horses water tanks, and will fill them tonight. Have to make sure "everything" has two or three dishes or pans of water, and bunnies have frozen jugs to help keep cool. Their cages are under trees so it is cool there, and also breeze can flow under them because of the metal wire bottom of the house.
Mike has to march tomorrow for the VA for a parade and Sunday will be going to Wausau for grandson Richard's birthday.

Glad everyone got bathed. on my list today, but... Did get up to watch Steve work Sunset (she was in a snit because a new roof was being put on the house, but finally calmed down). To my surprise, he had me get on his new lesson horse. Not to pretty, the horse was amazing, but his saddle was too big and my feet didn't reach the stirrups, so it was a pretty clumsy ride. Will take my saddle up next week. Meant to ride Jazz today, but shortly after feeding it poured down rain. We got 1 1/2" in 3 hrs, so are back to being a muddy mess.

Finally back on HC today! Visiting Rocky briefly last night to check on him and he's doing fine following the remaining vaccines and of course was looking for a handout. Yeah, seems like your area has had a lot of rain this spring and summer. It kinda takes off in different directions after it leaves you, so we only get some of it, but we're definitely getting more rain than last year, thank goodness.
No horse time yesterday. By the time I got through with grocery shopping, the thunder and rains came around again. Helped in the kitchen feeding the kids at VBS at church, and got home with just enough daylight to feed the critters. Tonight, I'm taking Madison and her friend to see the Broadway play The Lion King. They're excited about it.
Well, hope you have a good tuesday

Nice out today, just got in from chores, and "trying" to figure out what to do first, in the house. Got dishes done, put a batch of cookies in the oven, washing baby bottles, cat dishes, and the dog's too. Starting a load of clothes, bleaching out the towels and cloth used to wash and wrap Lillie's ankle. Still puss coming out. Thinking that the cuts, where it comes out, and closing up, which causes it to drain less and less, then it builds up again. Hate having cut it open again, but it really is only about 1/2 an inch. Mostly it is soft behind by the dew claws. Molly seems worst at times, other times is up and eating. Wish she would go out side and lay in the sun shine or even eat grass. Will have to let the steers into that pen, so that they eat the longer stuff, and new tender shoots the calves will eat better.

Well, if Allie's loping was good, you will have to forgive a few spooks....after all Queen Allie, can do what she wants too.
Actually feels hot today, can not open windows in the kitchen since that is where the incubators are sitting, mostly in the corners, out of sunlight and drafts. Put the latest batch, the one with the 2 pheasants and 5 chicks that I did not take to the sale, outside, in the coop, but in a cage. Bunnies, Thumper, and Black Dot, are going to the outside cages today, but have to put the one door on better. Hard to close, but it is a long cage with hutch on each end, then a center hole which I will have to close off, since one is a girl and the other a boy. Babies both of them, so for now can be together.

It's nice to have a welder in the family, they can make all kinds of handy things that last forever. The panels for doors was a brilliant idea.
15 hands is pretty tall. He actually looks taller than that in the pics. BJ is 15 hands as well, and he seems like a giant to me, especially saddled. And especially after riding little Allie, lol.
I rode Allie and did groundwork with her yesterday. She had one of those days she was extra alert and spooked 2 or 3 times at nothing. It was hot, no wind, not really a spooky kind of day at all. Oh well. She did lope around pretty nice.

I am the only one who can keep up to my chickens eggs and zucchini...ha ha. I feed the yolks back to the chicks or to the calves in their milk, I like the whites but not the yolks. Give lots of them to family too. I was selling a few for hatching rather than eating.
Beautiful out to day, nice light wind too, so clothes are drying fast. Mostly winter jackets and now some blankets.

Thanks, Allie is honored to be the queen. Though miss Tacky Thing started her rule by being in heat, pestered poor BJ to death all day. He couldn't go anywhere without her being under foot and in the way, lol. So I opted to ride Gracie instead, who is one sweet ride, and then trimmed her feet.

I usually have about 25 chickens, some are old and stopped laying aready, I know 2 are over 12 yrs old. Some have just started laying. I collect about 12-14 eggs a day, so that how many are paying for their food. The rest are just slackers...:)
Planted tomatoes plants after tilling it all up. 26 of them, and 12 pepper plants, lettuce, dills 2 packages, one for the butterflies, one for pickles. Some cucumbers, and nearly got the squash in, but I seen Molly was having a hard time breathing out in the sun, and it was even hot inside the hut, so I put her in the shade, and gave her some meds for breathing. Not sure why she is not responding to her penicillin. She has such a cough.
I will put chicken eggs in if they are different than the chickens I have now, but I am going to get a different rooster, instead of this black one with fancy hair due. I have a Braham, but the other chases him away all the time.

I think I am done hatching chicks, except for the ones still in the incubators. Guinea hens are laying a few aday so collecting those and going to start the other incubator up in a few days. Put the calves, Molly, Beauty and Panada in that pen and the other 3 can go out the back of the shed into a smaller pen. Helped my Mom dig up plants this afternoon, ran and got her a lawn mower belt. Still have to round up baby chicks to make sure they all get inside, and call horses and steers in for the night.
