No, you're right, we can't drive in the snow down here, lol. But in our defense, it's usually a wet snow or often ice on the roads, rarely do we get a dry fluffy snow.
We only got about an inch accumulation. It was kind of perfect: pretty coming down but melted off the roads and sidewalks.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Well at least you all have a reason. People up here are supposed to know how to drive in it. But, trust me they don't. Sometimes they are more dangerous than the snow. They drive like the roads are clear. I got a lot done today. Yay two more presents for Christmas done. Went out and groomed my boy. Winds were nasty so he was happy to come in. He felt cold. I would have turned him loose in the arena but she had one of the thoroughbreds in there. He got carrots so I know he was happy. Have a good evening. Vicki & Big Jax

It's a combination, no they don't get much practice driving in snow and ice, but then again, there are not the plows, salt and sand trucks they have up N. I remember one time in Mi, I got tired of the the slow salt truck ahead of me and tried to pass, no way, got myself tucked right back behind it. It makes a huge difference.

I'm glad you enjoyed the snow. I will send you mine this winter lol. It can be fun and very pretty. Most of the time its a pain lol. Winds were really hard today. Gust of 40 to 45 mph. I turned Jax loose in the arena. the paddocks are frozen no running there. He was very full of it. Vicki & Big Jax

Not much going on here. The snow was all melted off by the afternoon leaving everything really muddy, so no horse time. Instead, I took my daughter to see the movie Cocoa, and we really liked it and had fun together.
Well, hope your sunday is a nice and relaxing one.

SNOW DAY!
WOW...we actually had a SNOW DAY yesterday!!! Can you believe it snowed in Louisiana?? Yes it was quite an experience for us. I think it was 8 years ago since our last snow, but then it was nothing like this one. Normally the snow would melt not long after it hit the ground. We still have snow on the ground today. Everyone was busy building snowmen and playing in the snow. Got some pics of the herd on this snow day, will post on Susie's page. Have a great weekend!

Come visit me, ACES WILD & SUSIE AND FRIENDS.

Wow, you got snow too? Thats so cool! Snow in the south, crazy. Glad it's stuck around long enough for you to play in it and have fun. What did the horses think? Most of mine were like, ho hum. Allie seemed kind of unsettled and restless in it though.

Dropping by to say hi. Hope you and the herd are doing well.
I rode Allie again out in the pasture yesterday after I trimmed her hinds (I did her fronts over a week ago, sigh). We did some lope circles in both directions around her buddies, and she did pretty good, didn't get too fast and let me steer her, more or less. I was very happy with her. I forgot to give her extra treats for being HOTD, but maybe they'll have a pasture party today since Gracie and BJ are HOTD today (thanks so much again. :) !
Well, have a great tuesday.

Hope you're having a great weekend. And some horse time.
I finally got to ride Allie yesterday, it's been about 2 or 3 weeks since I've been on her. She did pretty good, just always tries to get fast like she does. But I'd just circle her back down to a walk and she was pretty compliant with that. It was great to be back on her.
I had decided to start feeding hay yesterday and it seemed that somehow the horses knew because they all hung at the gate after their supper. Kind of uncanny how they knew. Or maybe their desire for hay subconsciously influenced my decision. Anyway, hay was on everybody's mind, lol.
Well, hope you have a good restful sunday.

Hi & a vote,
Rocky is waiting for more Squeezy Buns... maybe I will have to give him one a week and more for Christmas. In the meantime, I think it is this weekend that my daughter is taking Cowboy to the 2-day Dan James clinic in Atlanta area. Can't wait to hear from her all about it! Also can't believe December is nearly here. Blue went to Agility last night, but was so tired out by the end, well probably both us of were ready for bed!!

Well it's Black Friday and I stayed out of the stores. I'm not a shopper unless I need something. Thanksgiving was fun. Lots of food and good company. The leftovers are the best part. Had pie for breakfast lol. Did some errands this morning then off to see my boy. He and the thoroughbred next to him were nipping at each other. I checked the box nope not on. Turned it on and that was the end. No one was around so we went to the arena. Turned him loose and did he have fun kicking up his heels. I posted a video on FB if you get a chance to look. Then I walked him around and let him pick at the grass. He was a happy boy. Because he likes to eat blankets, he is by himself. And where he is there is no grass. So it's hay 24/7. Tomorrow I may go the local horse boutique. How that kind of shopping I like. :) Have a good day. Vicki & Big Jax

Hope some of the nice weather we had today will still be nice when it gets to you.
I hope everyone had something....more than one thing....to be thankful for. We certainly do have a lot of blessing.
Mother Nature, "finally" decided to play nice. Sunshine and warm, well, seen 37 this afternoon, and not wind.
Dinner went great, Mike peeled potatoes, turkey was done right on time 11, so it had time to stand for a bit before everyone started coming around 11:30. Dominic helped set table and put out pickles, napkins, cheese, raw veggies and dip, but he forgot the coleslaw. 2 could not make it, so Jennifer took food home to them, and enough for her and Mike for tomorrow. Still have plenty of leftovers. Total of 10, Joe brought an old guy whose land he hunts on. My Dad uses to play horseshoes with him on a league.
While Mike took his 2 o'clock nap early, I let out chickens, Lilly and guinea hens went out earlier, and so did the horses. Worked in the chicken coop, put down another bag of woodchips, and changed a few roost, set up a old pair of sawhorses, and put boards across. Hopefully, the young guinea hens will stop picking on a few chickens, if there is more room to roost. Tonight when they all came in, the hens were thanking me for not inviting them for dinner or to be dinner. :) I like my chicken and they normally die of old age. Happy Thanksgiving...so who's going shopping tomorrow....not me said the "little red hen".

Happy Thanksgiving!
I did wind up riding BJ bareback yesterday and practiced liberty again. We were especially working on a turn on the forehand. It took a bit (he kept wanting to sidepass) and really exaggerated cues, but he got it. He seems to have a knack for liberty work, even Gracie doesn't do it quite as well as he does. Good boy.
Well, hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Another very windy and cold day, but guess what...Mr. Sun is actually still alive, because he made a brief a very brief showing today. Dominic can shot a doe yet this season, but we do not hunt does, because we have so few of them on our land. 6 does and fawns come out daily. Neighbors do not seem to care what they shoot, but we are trying to build our herd up. A few yrs ago we only had 1 or 2 does, so slowly it is coming up.
Went to Mom's today (always meet up at Mom's on Sunday for a few hours) and my brother had just come home from Alaska. It was good to see him and of course lots of pictures of his 3 kids and grandkids. They were here this summer, but he did retire early because of his hands being so bad. His 10 day visit will seem short.

Winds have arrived. Horses are in. Can't use indoor arena. It's made out of heavy tarp material. Winds really makes it shake. Jax's get to upset so letting him loose dosen't work. Heading out shortly. Getting the last of my groceries so I can do my dressing and pumpkin pies. I have a big pumpkin that I will cook down and make pies out of. A lot of work, but I really enjoy doing it. What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Vicki & Big Jax

It's nice when your hubby rides with you and helps with the horses.
Most of the schools close down for hunting season, well, its only 3 days until Thanksgiving. Yep, Dominic got a buck around 2 this afternoon. I was at my craft sale my sister puts on at a local bar in Hawkins. He sent me a text message, and I told him I would do a happy dance for him. Just got home from Church went his Dad pulled in the driveway.....Dominic nearly dragged me out of the car so I could see his deer. I told him just pure luck....at least he laughed and made some comment about a lot more than luck.
Came home from the sale with some homemade jewerly, made out of recycled copper wire. Very different, I did not buy any for myself, 1 bracelet to sent to a friend for Christmas, and butterfly made out of wires, and a deer head out of copper wires, sort of like for a key chain.....Tristan snatched that up. Also won the door prize, a 4 ft high snow bird, sort of nice, but my sister said my Mom liked it, so guess who gets it.

So happy you guys are back in the saddle. They look awesome. I think your husband is great to make sure you are safe in the saddle. Never know what they will do. True even if you ride everyday. I went to the barn last night. My trainer Lexie rode Jax. She didn't want me on him as it has been a month. He was a good boy and did all he was supposed to. But I love that she looks out for this older lady lol. Have a great weekend. Very cold right now. Weather man says high 40's by sunrise. Worry about colic with the change of weather. Vicki & Big Jax

Yeah, Allie is finally coming around. It took me forever to figure out that less is more for her, I should've taken things a LOT slower when I first started her. She's a smart little horse, she just learns differently than most horses.
Anyway, hope you can keep riding and enjoying your horses more often than back in the summer. Have a great weekend.

Poor Gypsy, I know what it feels like to have a fingernail too short. I am sure glad someone is feeling good about their weather, Mother Nature is on one of those can not decide what she wants to next. Temps are 31-34 raining one minute, snowing and sleeting next time I go out. Needless, to say, I am glad I have a back up jacket. Winds are bad again.
Peeled and sorted carrots, most of the morning. School got out early so we had to pick up Dominic. Hunting season starts tomorrow for the gun deer season....most guys and girls too, think it is a Holiday. Tristan is here sleeping over so he can get out in the stand early morning.

Yeah, I'm pleased that Allie is coming along, listening better, and picking up on softer cues without as much resistance as she used to have. It's like we're finally at a point where she can actually learn stuff. I rode her in the ring again yesterday and we did more trotting circles and figure 8s. She's getting pretty good at turning even in the trot, though she needs more bend, but I'm happy. I hope to ride her in the pasture today.
Well, hope your thursday is a good one.

Another foggy rainy, damp, day temps are at least in the 30's, so not bad outside. Put down a huge bag (like the biggest black garage bag) of wood shavings in the outside pheasant pen, guineas decided to stay in the back of the barn with Lilly for the winter, but one gal needs a place for her geese and a few ducks, so I told her I had some room. It is a log cabin type of house with a large fence in area, with a fencing on top too.
Shipped 2 boxes of spare tack to a friends small tack shop in Texas, so hopefully, they get there in one piece. They are insured. Well, break time is over....thats Mike's lunch hour, and I have to get back outside to help water and dig out the rest of the carrots.....horses and rabbits will eat good for awhile.

I am sure this "winter Christmas look" with disappear and then reappear many many times before the real Christmas comes....perhaps we will have a brown Christmas. Today it was foggy nearly all day, even at 4 when I went out to make sure all the chickens and guineas were in, because so foggy I could not see out to the coop.
Went to get old hay bales from Mikey and Jennifer's barn. Brought them a bag of grain for the calves. The one I called Panada, sure is nice looking and big. Worked on getting heat up stairs today. When we installed a heat exchanger about 2-3 yrs ago, we lost the prime for the upstairs, I think we may have figured it out.....we will see tomorrow. Pipes were getting warmer. If so, I will finally get a chance to clean and sort all the totes and boxes, usually it has been cold, so I just put a tote up there and never have time to put things where they belong. Lots of horse statues, and Christmas or seasonal things.

Tomorrow is Mike's VA breakfast, today he had to go an peel potatoes. Got home just in time to go to Church. Dominic and I paint old canning jar lids, put sparkles and other jewel type decorations, but first he punch a hole so we could put a small string string to hang them on the outside trees. Have not decided if it will be the small Christmas tree he brought out of the woods about 5 yrs ago, regular "Charlie Brown" tree, or the small maple that he planted seeds when he was about 5....had a whole handful, and now there are 2 or 3 trees sort of growing together. It is a small burgundy maple, they grow wider than tall. He helped me hang up a metal designed hanger, has 2 horses on, which his Dad had made me for last Christmas, he had painted it a few weeks ago.

Have any extra heat send it our way. Got up to around 18 today, wind chills were below zero. Very bad gus of winds, like 25 mph. and of course it would blow right up under my jacket. Back to adding a belt over my jacket. Feel sorry for the horses and steers having to walk threw the mud to get to the hay feeders. Usually, we still have them out on pasture, do not lock them in until after Thanksgiving. Already fed 3 bales, so I sure hope we will have enough hay. At least all the farmers had plenty if we have to buy some, it's just the cost, because I certainly do not have any extra $$. Tomorrow suppose to be the same.
Made beans today from scratch, so that will be baked beans, and been soup. Also did up some pumpkins, only 2 and I had 10 cups. Have about 20 more pumpkins to go. Took my cranberries, straight off my uncles cranberry marsh, cooked them with some of Mom's apples and made cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving and Christmas, have 7 pints and one quart jar. Made peanut butter cookies with Reese Peanut M & M style, but will not bake them until tomorrow morning to help heat the house. Better than last yrs, barely could get the temps up to 55, well at least now we have 65. Something is wrong with the thermostat out on the outdoor stove.

It's warmed back up here, 70s all week. Back to tee shirts in the afternoon. Allie got ridden in the pasture yesterday and did pretty good. I worked on trotting and then sitting down deep before flexing to a stop. She never stopped off my seat, but we did do a fair amount of trotting without disastrous results. Instead of hanging with her buddies where I work her more, she tried hanging at the gate, where I also worked her more, lol. Poor baby.
