Hope you had a great weekend.
Our church did a Thanksgiving potluck after the service yesterday, so I didn't have a lot of time in the afternoon. Didn't ride, but I got Allie's fronts trimmed. It was a bit windy but a beautiful day.
Well, hitting the road to work. Hope you have a great monday.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Another very windy and cold day, but guess what...Mr. Sun is actually still alive, because he made a brief a very brief showing today. Dominic can shot a doe yet this season, but we do not hunt does, because we have so few of them on our land. 6 does and fawns come out daily. Neighbors do not seem to care what they shoot, but we are trying to build our herd up. A few yrs ago we only had 1 or 2 does, so slowly it is coming up.
Went to Mom's today (always meet up at Mom's on Sunday for a few hours) and my brother had just come home from Alaska. It was good to see him and of course lots of pictures of his 3 kids and grandkids. They were here this summer, but he did retire early because of his hands being so bad. His 10 day visit will seem short.

Winds have arrived. Horses are in. Can't use indoor arena. It's made out of heavy tarp material. Winds really makes it shake. Jax's get to upset so letting him loose dosen't work. Heading out shortly. Getting the last of my groceries so I can do my dressing and pumpkin pies. I have a big pumpkin that I will cook down and make pies out of. A lot of work, but I really enjoy doing it. What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Vicki & Big Jax

It's nice when your hubby rides with you and helps with the horses.
Most of the schools close down for hunting season, well, its only 3 days until Thanksgiving. Yep, Dominic got a buck around 2 this afternoon. I was at my craft sale my sister puts on at a local bar in Hawkins. He sent me a text message, and I told him I would do a happy dance for him. Just got home from Church went his Dad pulled in the driveway.....Dominic nearly dragged me out of the car so I could see his deer. I told him just pure luck....at least he laughed and made some comment about a lot more than luck.
Came home from the sale with some homemade jewerly, made out of recycled copper wire. Very different, I did not buy any for myself, 1 bracelet to sent to a friend for Christmas, and butterfly made out of wires, and a deer head out of copper wires, sort of like for a key chain.....Tristan snatched that up. Also won the door prize, a 4 ft high snow bird, sort of nice, but my sister said my Mom liked it, so guess who gets it.

So happy you guys are back in the saddle. They look awesome. I think your husband is great to make sure you are safe in the saddle. Never know what they will do. True even if you ride everyday. I went to the barn last night. My trainer Lexie rode Jax. She didn't want me on him as it has been a month. He was a good boy and did all he was supposed to. But I love that she looks out for this older lady lol. Have a great weekend. Very cold right now. Weather man says high 40's by sunrise. Worry about colic with the change of weather. Vicki & Big Jax

That's so cool that the both of you enjoy horses. Sounds like Ace is doing well. What kinds of things is your hubby teaching him? Hope Gypsy gets comfortable on her feet again soon.
Yeah, Allie is finally coming around. It took me forever to figure out that less is more for her, I should've taken things a LOT slower when I first started her. She's a smart little horse, she just learns differently than most horses.
Anyway, hope you can keep riding and enjoying your horses more often than back in the summer. Have a great weekend.

Poor Gypsy, I know what it feels like to have a fingernail too short. I am sure glad someone is feeling good about their weather, Mother Nature is on one of those can not decide what she wants to next. Temps are 31-34 raining one minute, snowing and sleeting next time I go out. Needless, to say, I am glad I have a back up jacket. Winds are bad again.
Peeled and sorted carrots, most of the morning. School got out early so we had to pick up Dominic. Hunting season starts tomorrow for the gun deer season....most guys and girls too, think it is a Holiday. Tristan is here sleeping over so he can get out in the stand early morning.

Hi, woohoo to another day of riding! Bummer if the farrier cut Gypsy's hooves too short. The only good thing about that is they grow pretty fast. I'll be prepping my house for Thanksgiving next week. I need to clean and buy all the food. I'm hoping I'll get horsey time in, but it might be limited. Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

So excited for you that y'all are getting to enjoy the horses more. Does you hubby like to ride as much as you do? Love your new pics, Ace looks all grown up.
Yeah, I'm pleased that Allie is coming along, listening better, and picking up on softer cues without as much resistance as she used to have. It's like we're finally at a point where she can actually learn stuff. I rode her in the ring again yesterday and we did more trotting circles and figure 8s. She's getting pretty good at turning even in the trot, though she needs more bend, but I'm happy. I hope to ride her in the pasture today.
Well, hope your thursday is a good one.

Another foggy rainy, damp, day temps are at least in the 30's, so not bad outside. Put down a huge bag (like the biggest black garage bag) of wood shavings in the outside pheasant pen, guineas decided to stay in the back of the barn with Lilly for the winter, but one gal needs a place for her geese and a few ducks, so I told her I had some room. It is a log cabin type of house with a large fence in area, with a fencing on top too.
Shipped 2 boxes of spare tack to a friends small tack shop in Texas, so hopefully, they get there in one piece. They are insured. Well, break time is over....thats Mike's lunch hour, and I have to get back outside to help water and dig out the rest of the carrots.....horses and rabbits will eat good for awhile.

I am sure this "winter Christmas look" with disappear and then reappear many many times before the real Christmas comes....perhaps we will have a brown Christmas. Today it was foggy nearly all day, even at 4 when I went out to make sure all the chickens and guineas were in, because so foggy I could not see out to the coop.
Went to get old hay bales from Mikey and Jennifer's barn. Brought them a bag of grain for the calves. The one I called Panada, sure is nice looking and big. Worked on getting heat up stairs today. When we installed a heat exchanger about 2-3 yrs ago, we lost the prime for the upstairs, I think we may have figured it out.....we will see tomorrow. Pipes were getting warmer. If so, I will finally get a chance to clean and sort all the totes and boxes, usually it has been cold, so I just put a tote up there and never have time to put things where they belong. Lots of horse statues, and Christmas or seasonal things.

Tomorrow is Mike's VA breakfast, today he had to go an peel potatoes. Got home just in time to go to Church. Dominic and I paint old canning jar lids, put sparkles and other jewel type decorations, but first he punch a hole so we could put a small string string to hang them on the outside trees. Have not decided if it will be the small Christmas tree he brought out of the woods about 5 yrs ago, regular "Charlie Brown" tree, or the small maple that he planted seeds when he was about 5....had a whole handful, and now there are 2 or 3 trees sort of growing together. It is a small burgundy maple, they grow wider than tall. He helped me hang up a metal designed hanger, has 2 horses on, which his Dad had made me for last Christmas, he had painted it a few weeks ago.

Have any extra heat send it our way. Got up to around 18 today, wind chills were below zero. Very bad gus of winds, like 25 mph. and of course it would blow right up under my jacket. Back to adding a belt over my jacket. Feel sorry for the horses and steers having to walk threw the mud to get to the hay feeders. Usually, we still have them out on pasture, do not lock them in until after Thanksgiving. Already fed 3 bales, so I sure hope we will have enough hay. At least all the farmers had plenty if we have to buy some, it's just the cost, because I certainly do not have any extra $$. Tomorrow suppose to be the same.
Made beans today from scratch, so that will be baked beans, and been soup. Also did up some pumpkins, only 2 and I had 10 cups. Have about 20 more pumpkins to go. Took my cranberries, straight off my uncles cranberry marsh, cooked them with some of Mom's apples and made cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving and Christmas, have 7 pints and one quart jar. Made peanut butter cookies with Reese Peanut M & M style, but will not bake them until tomorrow morning to help heat the house. Better than last yrs, barely could get the temps up to 55, well at least now we have 65. Something is wrong with the thermostat out on the outdoor stove.

It's warmed back up here, 70s all week. Back to tee shirts in the afternoon. Allie got ridden in the pasture yesterday and did pretty good. I worked on trotting and then sitting down deep before flexing to a stop. She never stopped off my seat, but we did do a fair amount of trotting without disastrous results. Instead of hanging with her buddies where I work her more, she tried hanging at the gate, where I also worked her more, lol. Poor baby.
Well, hope you have a great friday.

Hi & a Vote,
Rode Rocky yesterday, but my friend couldn't ride, so I took the route by the road, through the dog park, to the other stable again. This time, two of the stable owners I know for years were there that I've haven't seen in a long time, so it was nice to talk to them. It was a little windy out, but nice sunshine. Today is all RAIN, so doing indoor things!

We didn't get enough rain to keep me inside and make me behave. I ran a few errands, took the pool pump apart and drained it for the winter, and then rode BJ bareback. Since he's a slow ride, I was practicing riding without reins, and he did really well. Steering at a walk as well as a trot, stop, back, sidepass, turns on the forehand, and spins, all without touching the reins hardly at all. Good boy! Mattie watched me do a few maneuvers and was like, how does he know what to do? Okay, I was showing off just a little, lol. We did finally get a downpour after dark, which was fine with me, but there were thousands of people sitting at the football game who probably needed a snorkel; I felt bad for them.

Hi & a vote,
Rocky says he's happy about getting 2 carrots last night! He has started on a new supplement because the vet thought it was good to start him on a joint supplement and he was already on a hoof supplement. He had some trouble with his gastro system last winter too. So, I'm trying the SmartPak Smart Combo Senior Ultra. He was on Grand Hoof with MSM, but was getting picky about eating it anyway, so this combo will cover everything that had and much more. And most importantly he's eating it all up!

Hi Ace, hope you had a great weekend! Went with my friend and Koot's twin basically on a trail that was about 1 1/2 and it was so much fun. We got to trot and canter and then we jumped over this 2 foot patch of mud. It was soo funny! Both horses jumped it instead of just walking through it. It was a fun day and thankfully that trail is shaded which was great since it was about 80-85 degrees when we were riding! Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

Hi & a vote,
This weekend, didn't ride until Sunday with my friend, but the weather was so beautiful. First she rode her buckskin and then her black mare, so Rocky had to make two trail loops, but didn't seem to mind. He was prancing after the black mare when they all got set loose into the pasture. He must be feeling frisky!

Mikey sent me a few pictures of his foot, swollen and red, one toe has a small sore on it. His foot is flatten and wide, because the drs. broke the arch on it, trying to fix his broken ankle. The said it was not broke for about 3-4 weeks, finally admitted, it was and had to put pins in. His creatin is only point 4 above the normal 1.0, so it means his kidney is working just slow. Creatin is the amount of "junk" in your body that the kidneys filter out.
Put the guinea pig and the Holland rabbit in the basement pens, other 2 are in cages in the shed. Bun Bun has alway been a "house rabbit", so she can not take what we will be getting this week. Not sure what day....not sure I want to know what day....but the high will be about 35-38, and snow. My brother in Alaska, sent some pictures of their front lawn, 4 inches of snow, so he said he would share and sent us in Wisconsin some of it. Then he will follow the snow in November around Thanksgiving time/ deer hunting season here. Hope your weekend was good, with alot of horsey time.

Had a good pasture ride on Allie yesterday , surprisingly. She had the zoomies on the lunge line, so I wasn't sure how the ride would go. We trotted a bunch of circles around her buddies (really fast trotting, lol) and then go rest away from her friends so I was gradually able to take her farther from them than usual. Whenever I wanted to walk and she kept breaking into a trot, I'd do a tight circle, and believe it or not, we finished the ride walking some fairly straight lines. Really fast walking, but walking

Well, I "think" our summer is really over this time. Rained some today, and then very windy, next couple of days rain and temps dropping and calling for some highs to be around 38-40. Had to fork and shovel old hay and composted stuff from the last hay feeder into the guinea hen's pen. Lots of critters for them to find. The compost stuff, very nice black dirty already, I shoveled into the stuff I got from under the lean-to. Hopefully, the flowers will look as good as what my mind is picturing. Tomorrow, or Monday at the latest, the rabbits and Chewy go into there winter homes.....no I am not sending them to Florida like they want me too.

Hi & a vote,
Rocky's scratches almost all healed. I worked on that stubborn right rear heel for awhile last evening and got a lot off. Make one tiny spot bleed, but most all the skin under was nice and healed. Rocky's hooves are trimmed. Still treating what remains of the heel scratches. This afternoon, Rocky, Blue and I went for a ride down the road, through the dog park and around to the stable nearby. Hasnt the moon been gorgeous the last couple of nights? It looked big as a house and orange coming up over the Clemson field last night. Madison and I had to go out and stare at it a while.
I rode Allie out in the pasture yesterday, used her buddies as obstacles to ride around. She kept wanting to trot, so we just kept weaving in and out between them and she eventually relaxed into just walking. A straight line sure seems to tempt her to go faster, and even loose, she often trots or runs when she has somewhere to go. Always in a hurry. But she did well and it was fun being out of the riding ring.
Well, hope you have a great friday.

Hi & a vote,
Have been so busy over the past weeks with my son's wedding this past Saturday!! It was a wonderful and special family event and now they are off on their honeymoon, then return to Chicago. So now, trying to catch up on things. I did get to ride Rocky on Sunday afternoon and the weather was still mild for this time of year. Poor Rocky, neglected during the wedding activities, I had to do lots of brushing, detangling mane, knots in tail, etc. Now treating some scratches that developed on his back heels. His pink skin seems more prone to developing scratches as my friends two horses never get it. Treating daily now and already improving and one side is nearly clear and the other will take longer. I usually use Micro-tek gel and ran out, but Tractor Supply didn't have any near us, so I got Vetericyn Plus for now. Not sure yet how well this will work.
