Cute little mare! nice to meet ya!

Hey guys! Sorry again for not being on much. Been a long and crazy busy week!! Koko has the great new shoes on, working great!! Working on getting her back into regular work. She’s feeling great, nice and supple. Song is doing well, too. She and her boyfriend, Duncan, love to run around and kick up their heels! How was your week? If you celebrate Christmas, are your decorations up yet? We celebrated St. Nikolaus’s Tag (Day in German) yesterday!! My shoes were filled with candy!! Does anyone else celebrate St. Nikolaus’s Day?

I am starting my new ballet technique class in a couple weeks at VBTS, Vermont Ballet Theater School!! Should be really fun and challenging!

Hi Star!! Voted!!
Yesterday was a fun day!! I went over to Sharon after lunch and was there until 4. There was about 9 other people there. We did barrels, flag race, egg n spoon, and keyhole. It was too windy to do the poles :(

They weren't awarding ribbons, but Sweet Pea won FIRST PLACE in the barrel racing and in the egg n spoon!! I wasn't surprised in the barrels, but she usually does horrible in the egg n spoon. She's not the calmest horse LOL.

There was a colt there that was born the same spring as Flicka, and will be 3 in the spring. They were riding him bareback already, and cantering and everything. So what do you all think? Sharon thinks I could be riding Flicka as much as I do Sweet Pea (like every other day) on trails and stuff, but everybody else (books, magazines, etc) say wait until they are 3.

One instance I'm thinking "well, sure. I'll start her off with Kayla (60 lbs.) bareback and just stay on the property at a walk/trot."

Then the next moment, "no. She's not near big enough or strong enough to carry a rider. I should just wait until she's 3, then I don't have to be afraid of hurting her."

SOOOOO, as you can tell....I need advice. So, even if you've never started a horse before, tell me what you think!!

Would it be ok to start Kayla on her now and take it reeeeaaaalllly slow, just bareback and a snaffle, and get her used to carrying weight and staying balanced (cause I think its going to take her longer to carry herself and a rider nicely-she's so clumsy!) and go now faster than a trot....

stay off of her until she's 3?

I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say!! Also, shall I start her in a snaffle or (mechanical) hackamore?

I worked with her a little when I got home yesterday; ground-tying (GR8), trotting over poles (didn't touch them-made a clucking sound as she went over them so she learns to associate the noise w/ lifting her feet higher), and moving away from light pressure (hindquarters over, back up).

So that was my day! I hope yours was as great!!

Looking forward to your advice!!

Happy Trails,

If you didn't already, please check out STARLIGHT's page!! I'm uploading some more pictures soon, so check back for more!

My filly is Flicka, I have a page for her. She is out of a Tennessee Walker/Quarter Horse/Saddlebred and by a Halflinger/Standerbred. Wow. A lot of breeds! She'll be 3 in May and I'll be riding her in the spring, and maybe even the beginning of next year. She's super sweet and sensitive and the way she looks at you w/ her big brown eyes just melts my heart. She needs lots of praise and affirmation when she's learning new things but she learns fast.

Hey if you want to make these hearts and stars, this is how you do it:

for the hearts, put all this together-no capitals, or spaces:

& h e a r t s ;

and for the stars, same things but spell star:

& s t a r ;

put that all together and don't forget the semi-colon. They are pretty cool :)
I hope you enjoy HC. If you are really active, you'll make a ton of life long horsey friends. I've even met in person, a girl from Canada that I got to know through this site. Someday I hope to meet more!!

Have a great night :)
