How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanshp and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. I had gone over to get the dog and take it to the vet on the day I found her. Yes, it was scary to find her like that, but honestly, we all kind of expected something to happen, she just should have never been alone. But she would not listen to anyone. I like her very much, but she is one stubborn, hard headed woman.
I'm so sorry you've still not got your zip back. Will keep you in my prayers.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Woke up to mist and drizzle all day long, so it made it easier for me to accept being house bound! LOL! Seems that HC is okay now, down almost all day long! I did however get Paige first, then Indy into the indoor for some free lungeing in there. They had fun. Gave them both a good grooming, it didn't hurt to bad to use my leg hand and arm, just couldn't raise it all the way to Indy's high rump! Almost 16 hands back there! LOL! Hoping tomorrow is even a little better! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

36 continues to like the bit (mikmar.com) the training bit is the one I'm using right now. It's not hard to install on the headstall, and the reins are attached to the rope nose. They offer videos on their website and offer a free DVD (waiting on mine).

Actually, my farrier checked him out last Friday while out for trimming. He rodeoed for years and worked at the racetracks as track farrier and he's really good with them. He took Bub's front leg forward to put on the pedestal, and the horse lowered his front body (almost like bowing) and was nibbling down his leg. Mike felt up the leg, deep into the shoulder muscle, and found heat behind the chest wall! He took my hand and I felt it too, but just normally running your hand on his body, you can't feel it. He said 36 might have a tear, or pulled something during turnout, or stemming from the trailer incident. Liniment for now, unless gets worse.

Marion, the trailer incident was my fault really. This horse is my buddy and will follow me everywhere. I have a three horse slant and we went inside, I hooked him to the tie, turned around to pull on the divider door, he tried to follow me, felt trapped and panicked. I tried to release him, both the horse and I banged our heads. He scalped his forehead and needed stitches to put the hide back on as the fascia was showing. Really scary as he walked out of the trailer, head down, mouth gaped wide open-I was scared to death that he broke his jaw! He walked back to his stall, got a drink of water, started eating some hay, and I have not asked him to get in the trailer since. (haven't had to go anywhere) I know he won't hesitate when I do ask him, but will an automatic panic mode be there is what I'm concerned about.

Thanks for being good buddies! Have a great hump day!! Cindy, Bub, and Bee

Lol, 1500 lbs is impressive for a riding size horse. I'm sure Chip had fun putting the weight on. Its amazing how little a lot of horses (and humans) need to eat to stay healthy. My kids only get out on the pasture about 5hrs a day and get literally a handful of grain just to keep them coming when I whistle, and they're still a little overweight.
It doesn't sound like you to not have energy, but I think we horse people work so hard, we just need a rest day every now and then. Hope your get up and go comes back soon.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it was a little cooler today and got overcast this afternoon. But the horses all loved their time out in the pastures. Just really need some light rain to make things grow a little more before grass growing season is totally over. Ribs about the same today, guess it's just gonna take some time! You would think I know that by now, after all the broken ribs I've had over the years! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

OK, I know it wasn't a blog sent to me, but I got a big ole chuckle out of Chip's dilemma. As in ,"how do you know when your horse is too fat? When the weight tape won't reach around him". Poor Chip probably won't like the remedy.

Well, when I went to take my in-laws' dog to the vet, I found my mother-in-law down, so spent the whole day at the hospital. She's had a stroke, on top of her already bad health, and doesn't look good. Will go back today, but hopefully her daughter will get back in town and take over.
Thankfully, my son and niece are holding down the fort at home, taking care of the critters and my daughter. Sure appreciate them.

Sure wish I could have done the weed whacking, but that's not happening anytime soon! LOL Good thing we haven't had rain I guess, it's not growing, just a few weeds here and there! LOL! Sure is boring doing nothing, I'm not a sit still kinda person! I've got ants in me pants, gotta keep going. This is killing me! Felt just a tad better today, some friends from my old job stopped by, of course Tom goes and gives me a big hug, ouch! Horses were out all afternoon, I think Paige is loving her mini vacation! Always a lot to do after a trip. Did you ever get to relax yesterday afternoon?
I finally squeezed in a little bareback ride on BJ. I was disappointed to find that he was blowing again; I really was hoping he was going to be good, at least till next summer. I just stayed at a walk, and unexpectedly, his breathing eased after a while and I was able to lope a circle or two in each direction. Guess I'll have the vet come scope him at some point.
Well, another Monday. Hope its a good one for you.

i had a nice ride on sing today. i usually don't ride on my work week end cause i'm psychotic and exhausted from being awake all night and sleeping only 3 hours. today was a pretty day with a nice breeze and i just had to take advantage. i just walked out in my pasture and circled the trees. time well spent any way you look at it. she's such a good horse. we've had so many years together, we think alike!

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it was just a beautiful day out and I couldn't work outside! Hit like 85 degrees with a light breeze and low humidity. Got the kids out all afternoon however. Didn't hurt as much picking stalls, hurt but not like last night. Down to only 1 Advil every 6 hours now. Still very sore, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I cracked any ribs, just really bruised! I hate being out of commission! Good thing it was football sunday! LOL! I'm glad Cisco is doing so well!
Something that can only be described by the phrase "It's a long story" began last Monday, when my cousins offered to temporarily keep a neglected Belgian stallion in a paddock at our barn. The paddock has a mesh fence with hotwire on the top. It's more than enough to contain the horses in Cimarron's herd, but it was not enough to contain the Belgian.
The stallion tore out a section of the fence, hotwire and all, and escaped into the main pasture, where he proceeded to wreak havoc. He pursued the mares, of course, but Cimarron and another gelding got in the way. The stallion thrashed both of them, although Cimarron got the worst of it. He's missing a large chunk of hide from his shoulder, has a fist-sized bite on his neck, and another bite on the underside of his neck, near his throatlatch. My cousins managed to drive the stallion into a pasture on the neighboring property - one with a more solid fence. Meanwhile, I'm rather upset about this whole series of events. My poor Cimarron!
The good news for the day is that Cimarron got new shoes, so his feet look really beautiful now, and he's been happily begging for treats and wiggling his tongue at me. So... That's something.

Come visit me, Pippin & Cimarron.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. What another beautiful day out, it hit 82 degrees with only 38% humidity! Just beautiful! Did a few things, went and picked up 5 bags of grain for Paige, but 4 get 1 free! It's for me! Then had a great ride on Paige! She's really getting so responsive with me and the cues. I'm so happy. Till when I was bringing them in from turnout! Now I'm on the injured reserved list! You know the saying, had the rug pulled out from under you! Yep happened to me. I just walked her in the barn, turned her around to cross tie and Indy outside kicks the barn or something. She freaks out and runs forward, but hooked my 1/4 thick 5x6 mat and sends it flying backwards, of course I'm standing on it, whack down I go on my left boob and elbow and jam it into my ribs, don't know if I broke any, don't really feel like it, just bruised ribs I'm thinking. Advil and rest, no riding for a while I guess, see how I feel in the morning, maybe have to get looked at, who knows. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. What a day out today, sunny little breeze and up to 76 degrees, just beautiful! Did some laundry and put it out on the line, love fresh air dried cloths! Had a really nice session with Paige, today I worked more on laying that outside rein on her neck to lighten up the turns and cues. Just have to really remember, she's not H.T.! I keep reverting to an old habit of crossing my hand over her withers to the other side, that's a no no! We did this at the walk and did very well after a while, then I stepped it up to the jog, she's getting it. Had them out this afternoon for a long time! It was just so nice out! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

finally back to the computer to Blog, Lilly is doing fantastic, I have all my fall maintenance for her lined up , a trim then Dr. Jeff comes for her fall shots and wellness check, Have been riding or walking every night this week, to keep me focused on the important stuff like love laughter and me time, all this week I have been involved in transitioning my job out, which is really weird thing to do, ( work your way out of a job )not sure what my last day is but I think sometime in Oct, early I hope, I know longer will be doing what I do as of Oct. 2 I doubt my company would want to hang on to me to do nothing for very long after that. I actually can't wait now to get out of corporate America, it has been a good job but I have resolved now that a new, glorious adventureis about to begin. !! Love Suz and Lilly

Its amazing, and a little disconcerting, what we can do when someone pushes us. I'm so happy for you that you'll have a fun, challenging, learning, horse-filled weekend. And are just you going, or are you taking yourself with you? Lol.
Gracie came up with skint and bruised withers (what do they do to themselves out in the pasture!?), so I took BJ. If you had told me, 3 wks ago, I'd have BJ on a trail ride, I wouldn't have believed you. He's doing great and I'm sooooo grateful. Of course, we stayed pretty slow and I led him up the long hills, but yay!!!

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it was chilly and overcast, calling for rains all day. NOPE! But just nasty out. So did some house things and later on got going with the horses. Today was a lungeing session with both and showmanship work. Of course wouldn't you know, the minute I go to walk from the barn to the indoor, rain! Which lasted all of 5 minutes. Did it to me both times, first with Paige, then 45 minutes later with Indy. Like are you just waiting for me to walk a horse out or what! LOL! Then it stopped. South Jersey got hit hard, it seemed to stay coastal and even though the weather map showed us in rain, it never was hitting the ground. And yes, my pastures could really use some rain! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Yep, she's getting a little manic with the belly touching thing. OCD. She is a very busy little girl, always doing something-i seldom see her sleeping. I hope she settles down with maturity or she's really gonna be a challenge to ride, lol. She and Gracie both love belly scratches, right along the midline. Allie also likes her tail head scratched. And her neck. And inside her ears. She's a goof.
Guess its time to say good bye to the HBs and the rest of summer. I haven't seen mine at all in days. Looking forward to pumpkins and apples though.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well a little warmer this morning, about 46 degrees and up to about 70 again. Cool breeze most of the day, but some bad storms moving in for tonight into tomorrow, could be about 3 inches of rain, or more they are saying! Sure hope not, indoor is just getting really soft and fluffy finally from that soaking in June! LOL! Had a really good ride and training session on Paige today, really working on my legs for steering and controling her body, hopefully can step it up to jogging and then loping and just all off my legs, like Marissa does with her! Oh to be young and agile again! LOL! No neck reining really to speak of. Where as H.T. when he was alive, could neck rein like a champ, just lay that rein on him in that sweet spot and he'd turn on a dime! Had them out all afternoon, but the grass is just about down to the nubs. So some rain and a couple of nice sunny days and hopefully some new growth in the pastures! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.
