How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanship and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. Yep, still having to refill the feeder every other day, much more often than usual. They sure are fun to watch.
I had a good ride on Allie yesterday morning. We did a good bit of loping and she even let me turn her a tiny bit without too much fuss at a lope. Would love to build on that, but have to work today. Oh well, that's life.
Hope you have a great hump-day.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Another good weather day, little warmer, like 80 degrees with some humidity, but not that bad. Horses were out for two hours and then wanted in. I noticed some bugs starting to come around too. Got a load of pelleted bedding and grain for Paige. Got home unloaded it myself, took my time. Then mowed the lawn which was like a mini forest! Other than that, that's it. More weed whacking tomorrow and mowing, plus I will work with Paige, back in training with me! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Goodness, that's a lot of HBs. Talked to Mom last night and she said she had heard that for every HB you see, there are at least 6 more around. I had to refill my feeder after only 2 days this time, and it usually takes about 3 or 4 days.
Glad Meatloaf is moving around better. Poor fella, I know how he feels. Hope the new stuff works well for him. Will he take it okay, do you think?
Is there supposed to be any break in your rain soon? This week into the middle of next week is supposed to be dry.
Well, hope you have a great tuesday. Take care.

PS. Poor Scott, I bet he was ready to beat his head against a wall. 8 hrs to get a new rear view mirror, ugh!

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the rain yesterday was 1.5 inches, but the ground was dry this morning, it really needed it again! Spent the late morning and half the early afternoon, cleaning out the trailer! Since the weather was delightful, 73 degrees with a breeze! And best was no bugs or humidity! Sinks scrubbed, toilet scrubbed, throw rugs out and vacuumed, floor washed, laundry done, all the horses stuff but away, and the feed, hay stall swept out! Now I just have to Pledge the wood cabinets and scrub the refridge, but I still have drinks in there for when I'm working on it. Horses were out for like 2 hours, they loved it, no bugs and just peaceful! Tomorrow it's a trip to Tractor Supply for Paige's food and pelleted bedding while the 10% coupon is still good. Then home and start to work with Paige again. Knee brace is back on, hopefully it'll support it enough I can get back to riding. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Aw, sure hope the new stuff helps Meatloaf feel better (love his name). Hope it helps Bo too. Glad to hear that her current meds have helped a lot. I've been taking tumeric for a couple of months, but can't say it's done anything. Might try a higher dose before giving up on it.
Your weather sounds nice. Enjoy it while it lasts, huh? We had a wonderful rain yesterday afternoon, about 1.25 inches. We sure needed that. But it did keep me from riding, and it's still probably too wet and slippery to ride this morning. If it's not too hot this afternoon, maybe I can ride by then.
Well, hope you have a good start to your week. Take care.

PS. I'm up to about 4 or 5 HBs, more than I've ever seen here. They're feeding alot, and pretty bossy about it too, lol.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well today we packed up and left early. My knees said that they had it and I was overtired! Just can't get comfortable with that left knee at night time! So 4 and 5 hours of sleep is not enough for this ole'cowgirl! Besides rains were moving in, and it was an outdoor show! So rain is not my idea of fun either! LOL! Very happy to go Circuit Class Champion in Open Ages Mares with Paige, and just missed the Amy Sr. Mares by 3 points! Oh well next time! She did very well, hardly any screaming out of her at all. Indy was happy when I picked him up at Marissa's barn. Annie that works full time for Marissa said after he calmed down about missing his girl, he was a pleasure to be around and work with. He had daily turnout for a while in a semi-dry lot, but it had a big hay rack in it full all the time. So how much playing he did, I don't know, but he ate well, that's for sure! Good to be home, pouring rain now! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

A jacket in August? That would be something! After you got used to triple digits, anything under 90 feels chilly, huh?
I had a good ride on Allie yesterday again. It was pretty hot and muggy by the time I got out there, and I think that helps. When I get off, I've noticed her dropping her head and almost looking sleepy, like she's really thinking about the ride. It's a totally different look from her usual sassy self. Within about 30 mins, she's back to high levels of sass, lol. That is one strong-willed, opinionated little pony. Kinda glad she can't talk, I'd be getting an ear-full all the time.
Aw, I bet HBs are tiny to hold. Every now and then, I find what I think must be one of their nests, and they too are tiny, fit right in the palm of your hand. That's not as much sugar as I would've guessed for the season, but still a lot.
Well, hope you have a good and quiet sunday. Take care.

Are you still getting rain? Hope it's still cooler than usual.
I went over to a neighbor's yesterday and a HB had gotten onto their screened porch. Fortunately, they have a butterfly net and were able to catch it and turn it loose. That's about the stillest I've ever seen one. They have 2 feeders out and the HBs were busy at theirs, more so than at mine. But I'm glad that when my feeder runs out off and on, they can still eat. How much sugar do you have to buy in the summer for them? A lot, I bet.
I rode Allie yesterday morning and she did pretty good. It was nice to be on again. She's not crazy about loping in the roundpen (can't blame her for that) but she's usually ready to stop when I say whoa.
Well, hope you have a great weekend. Take care.

Not the first time that Sadie's turned on the water. I'm sure it won't be the last time, either. If she thinks about it, she'll do it, again. The only way to keep her from it is to keep her put up. Do you think the HBs are stocking up for migtation? Is the timing right, or is it a little early, maybe due to your cooler weather?
Sorry you had to cancel the farrier, it's hard enough to book them the first time. That's too bad you can't enjoy being outside in the cooler temps thanks to the rain, but I bet the grass loves it. Maybe you'll have good hay this year.
I saw a FB post that said "Who needs Pokemon Go to find invisible monsters when you own a horse?" The visible monsters (like tractors and trucks) aren't as bad as the invisible ones, I guess.

Whaaaa? 70s and 80s in Tx in Aug? That is freaky. Nice though, you could get used to it, huh?
Yes, it is weird that our horses have the hangups they have despite so much training. Oh well, it's not good for us to have it all our own way, I guess. The road maintenance crew were back again yesterday with all their big noisy stuff. I was on Allie when they arrived and she was curious about it all but not spooky. Good girl. Well, off to work today and tomorrow. Hope you have a good couple of days.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well we're all packed and ready to go. Just have to put the grain in the trailer, didn't want that sitting in the hot humid sun all day! Sure gonna miss Indy at the show. He's doing a sleep over at Marissa's barn to save me on the cost of his stall! Stalls at this show are $125! So Marissa said bring him and his grain and hay over and he can have Paige's winter stall, it's still waiting for her! LOL! Got them lunged today in the indoor with the fans on. Humidity was worse today, sure hoping that this storm that we had about an hour ago cools things off! Otherwise, it'll be halter and showmanship for me and no riding! I won't ride her in that heat! No sense killing her or myself! Not worth it! Well we'll be back on HC on Monday. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Cliff is adding the sides to the top cover and framed the north side, so we will put up the north wall when the weather permits. We will add the east wall the end of Sept. He will then put the metal all the way around. We are using the materials that we salvaged from the other barn for his stall. We had to buy 2- 16' 2x6's so I thought that was good on the money side so far. Work has been busy from evaluation time, cleaning of a unit here that was refurbished to house our rehab unit from the other campus, moving the unit from the old hospital campus to this location. Our other campus is closing for good. It was first opened in 1920! Plus all the other things like totally high census! Have a wonderful day ♡

Yeah, I agree with Steve, one rein stops are a big life-saving emergency brake. And with any speed or excitement, I absolutely cannot do one on Allie, which is why after 6 mo of riding, I'm still not out of the roundpen/riding ring. But short of running barbed wire thru her mouth, not sure what to do about it, I can't out pull her. (I'm not serious about the barbed wire thing, of course.) I just keep practicing turns and one rein stops from the slower gaits and hope that she'll relax enough one day to let me do it from the faster gaits. Like I said, I would never have believed a horse could be so stiff before I rode Allie. I've never seen anything like it. But I'll keep working on it.
Speaking of riding, I'm hoping to head out in a bit and ride. Hope you have a great tuesday.

Hi Cisco, Don't know if I'm gonna be able to vote and blog any more friends. Either HC or my internet is going nuts! Keeps timing out big time! Like over an hour to vote and blog 5 horses! UGH! here's a vote for ya. Well so much for the cooling off! It was a little better around noontime, only about 80 and a mild breeze. So I opted for turning them out rather than working them. They needed pasture time and mental time! Lasted about 75 minutes and the breeze left, humidity set in with tons of flies! The two yella ones were running like nut cases! Got Bullseye out of the way, he was in the walk to barn pasture. Then got Paige, she was hot and full of flies, poor Indy was the worst, he sweats so easily! I let them drink and then took them up one at a time of cold hose hoof! Finished that and decided that Bullseye is really due to have his feet trimmed. So got out my tools and cross tied him right next to the fan. I worked up a worse sweat! But his little hooves look great! Mowed two pastures, just about done with things and getting ready to leave on Wed for our last horse show! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Yeah, it didn't spring a leak right away, but the next morning, it was spraying straight up in the air. I also discovered there's sand in the bottom of the pool, presumably from the sand filter. I must've hooked something up wrong or something is loose inside the filter, but that's where the cloudiness is coming from. I haven't run the filter since last thurs and the water is very clear. Sigh.
I gave Allie her head in the round pen yesterday and she did okay. Pinny eared at a lope, but after about 4 or 5 laps, I said whoa and she was ready to stop. It was pretty hot, so I'm sure that helped. I'm gonna give her today off probably and try again tomorrow. That's been the problem with the one rein stops, she's too stiff to do them. Like I said, I've NEVER had such a resistant horse.
Thanks for the help. We'll keep practicing backing and work at the stiffness.
How's your weather, any more rain? Has it cooled off a little? Hope your farrier can work on dry horses. Have a great start to your week.

Vote 8100!
Hi Cisco, here's vote #8100 for ya. Well, it almost seemed like a needed a sweater today! Just kidding! It was only 91 with a heat index of 102! So compared to yesterday, it was cold! Just kidding again, my brain is fried! Well I did get to saddle and bit up Paige and lunge her like that. I had all the doors open in the indoor and the fans on, combined with the nice breeze we had earlier, it was okay in there! After her lunging, she got cold hosed and on the wall. Then I did Indy, only naked for him, no saddle. Then cold hosed him and on the wall. Bullseye got hosed off only. While they were thinking about life, I mowed a pasture and the short side of the indoor arena. With the rains and the temps, the grass is growing again! Hopefully Monday it'll be even cooler they say and I can get them out for pasture time! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

So happy you can work with Cisco. He is lucky to have you as a mom. Not many would have been the work and care into making him better. We have had sever humidity and hot weather. Too hot to ride. Now we are having sever thunderstorms and heavy rains. Life has been way to busy. Not that I'm not enjoying it. Sometimes its just nice to sit.
So I have a question, I have two people of different opinion on my horse jumping. I want the input of my HC family. As you can see from Big Jax picture, how he is built. Should he be jumping? I am not a fan of it, but I don't know how. So I'm not sure if its my not knowing and doing. Or, my instincts that he isn't built for jumping. The other person doesn't think he should be either. However, my trainer says it won't hurt him. Second question, if its okay for him to jump, how high? Know also he is slightly sickle in his left hind leg. Thanks everyone. Vicki & Big Jax

Not much since yesterday. School starts tomorrow, so it's back to lesson plans this afternoon, which I'm not ready for. I let Mattie pick what she wanted to do for the last saturday of summer, and she wanted to go to Hobbie Lobby and then get a pizza (the pool is temporarily out of commission due to a hose I accidentally cut weed eating).
