How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanship and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. Oh dear, so he put on a show yesterday? Glad he's doing well and hope the addition of Nugget goes well today.
We had a beautiful day yesterday, it was a bit cooler than its been, so we were able to open windows and turn off the A/C. I put in a very short slow ride on Allie. She's getting pretty impatient with all the circles and stops, and I don't blame her, but she's gotta have a handle on her. Or try to.
Well, off to work. Hope you have a great thursday.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom,Gracie.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well, yep you guessed it! More rain! Probably about 4 inches total by now! Not happy, Honey don't like the tall grass and pulls me away from taking her out to potty! I might have to weed whack a small 30 foot circle for her! Spoiled pup! Got Paige lunged, and did a little more loping today on the line. Vet says if all goes well, we can start riding around May 15th! Indy got to free run in the indoor, he had a blast! Then it wasn't doing anything out, so I managed to get 9 bales of hay to the barn. And got the big tractor down and dragged the indoor. Nice and fluffy again! Love my fluff! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Trotting by with a Wednesday morning vote! I hope y'all are having a great week so far. I haven't been able to ride due to the wetness. But I did get to groom Copper yesterday. He is shedding so MUCH!!! It's really weird I almost don't know what color to call him Sorrel or bay? Sometimes he looks like sorrel but others he looks like a bay. I have a question, can bays have white socks? Voted! ~Brooke and Copper~

Well, I would love to visit for fishing and BBQ, sounds like so much fun. If yall weren't a 15 hr drive away, lol. (Sherry and I joke about popping over to trail ride or eat BBQ)
That's a lot of progress if Cisco gets to be out with some buddies. Lets him feel like a real horse again. So it was Bo who was flirting? Cutey.
Not sure how today is going to pan out. I think I have to take my sister in law to the doctor and also run several errands for her, which won't leave any time for much else. But we'll see. Hope you have a great hump day.

HI Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the rains continue! Probably 2 inches at least! And more to come! Grass is so high and thick, don't know if my poor lawn tractor will do it without having a heart attack! Went food shopping and then downtown for grain. Got Paige lunged again, well it's everyday, 7 days a week to build up that muscle. Today she loped again, doing very well. Indy got the day off, it was raining to hard to walk another to the indoor. I don't want that sinus infection back or any sickness. So I hid in the house the rest of the day! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

We do leave a clean pair of shoes in the house. It's just that all of our driveway isn't done yet so we like to let it dry out for a day so we don't tear it up. Stopping by with a Tuesday morning vote! Well we're still soggy today from our rain early yesterday morning. So no riding but I'm going to groom my boy today! Copper is great he's been shedding a lot and is muddy! Voted! ~Brooke and Copper~

Oh dear, out running around in the dark with a storm trying to catch a horse. The things we do for them.
Yes, I would dearly love to have someone like Steve to help me out. Maybe I'll drop her off at his place on the way to go fishing and eat BBQ with Sherry, lol.
Yesterday was groceries, grass, and homeschooling, so no time for riding, but I did bring Allie up for love and brushing again. And her favorite part, eating clover in the yard.
Well, off to work. Hope you have a great tuesday and some horse time.

HI Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Still on the tired side. But even in the mist/drizzle this morning, I got the trailer all unpacked and cleaned up. Moved it to it's parking spot. Then Lunged Indy, well free lunged him, he had some pent up energy and he ran it off on his own! LOL! Then today was to be Paige's first day of loping under control. We did our lungeing routine and at the end, I loped her each direction, 2 circles and then trot, then again loped. She was like, ah should I be loping mom! LOL! And I didn't drug her or use the lip chain, just her regular over the nose chain. She was good and was sound all the time. Honey then got to be turned loose in the indoor too, she has a ton of pent of energy to run off, can that little girl run! She was lungeing herself around me! Too funny! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Yes, I do flex her from the ground too. She knows it's coming before I ask when I'm on the ground, and usually flexes 3 times for every one time I ask, lol. Sometimes, I just point to her belly and she'll flex.
Did it stay dry last night? The weather has sure turned it into a guessing game, huh?
We had some more small storms come thru last night, so it'll probably still be too wet to ride, but that's okay. I pulled Allie up just to feed and brush her yesterday, and she enjoyed that. She was surprised when I turned her back out without having to do any work. I'll try to do that again today.
Well, hope your week gets off to a good start. Take care.

i wanted to set the record straight about the high profile news reports against Cypress Creek Equestrian Center, Darolyn Butler, and the horses that got flooded out during our bad rain. She's been around for many years, has 70 horses on 9 acres and uses some land around her for turn out. she's 66 yrs old and been a champion endurance rider. she cannot sell that land due to flooding. it's gotten worse as construction pops up all around her. she was wading/swimming into the rising waters, trying to round up her horses until the police forced her to stop. they made her sit, rest, and gave her coffee and donuts that they had because they thought she was going into shock. someone snapped a pic and posted it to FB saying, "she has coffee while others save her horses." she takes care of her horses. this comes from Dr Dutton, the vet that I've switched to. he was there for the rescue and also judges endurance races so he knows first hand the real story. she probably needs to begin downsizing but I think we all know that many people have too many horses on small acreages, myself included. I had 12 horses/ponies on this 4 acres and some probably wouldn't approve of that. all of us do it a bit differently.
buttercup checked out good and didn't need a hock injection. Princeton had a hoof abscess and has to stay out of mud for a week while the wrap protects it. so far so good.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Thank you all for the congrats on Paige's HOTM! What a great surprise! Show went well, weather was cold and rainy however! But Paige placed very well in her Halter classes, just behind three top heavy duty halter horse mares under all 4 judges! So if the biggies didn't show up, my little mare would have been tops! But she is in my book no matter what. Very tough Showmanship patterns, but we placed in 6 out of 8 of them under 4 judges. I personally got knocked down cause I can't run the extended trot! It's a reason it's called Select Showmanship (over 50)! Hello judges! LOL! Indy had fun, got lunged and loved on. And little miss Honey was a hit with everyone! She became buds with a Swiss Mountain Bernese that was three times her size! She handled the show scene and living in the LQ trailer very well! Now we're both off to catch up on much needed rest. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

yes, you may have your hands full with Cisco when you can ride him again. i hope not. he may be seeing you in a whole new light now that you are his sole source of food and water and companionship.
ive always heard that to be comfortable loping, a horse has to lope and lope often. but Allie has kind of taken that option away for the time being, there will be no (intentional) loping until we are totally solid and comfortable at the trot. and i do mean totally, lol. some of the old time Tacky folks post pics of their first rides and it is literally walking one full circle around the roundpen or one time down the driveway and get off. ive always wondered if such a short simple ride does any good, but maybe it does.
we finally had some good rain yesterday and early this morning, almost 2 inches, yay! we really needed it. the riding ring is too soupy to ride in today, but im not complaining. Allie could use a few days break anyway.
well, hope you're having a great weekend.

Oh no, thunderstorm and hail? Glad you and Cisco got in okay, sounds like a bad one.
Rode Allie in just the halter yesterday and just another short ride of walking, circling, and stopping. I was scared to death and prayed like mad throughout, but she was calmer. She's pretty resistant to the halter too, her first reaction to pressure of any kind is to pull against it. I've done flexing and one rein stops till I'm blue in the face, but I'll keep doing them, dont know anything else thatll help. Still, I was pretty happy with our ride yesterday because she was more relaxed and confident.
Well, headed off to work. My daughter is spent last night with a friend, so I don't have to worry about leaving her like I usually do. Hope you have a good saturday with better weather.

Wow, amazing that he has even exceeded the vet's expectations. Due to great care and prayers. Glad you were able to hook up with your friend, that's always fun.
Well, I got on Allie-bug yesterday. I almost didn't cause it was kinda windy but that didn't seem to bother her. We were both so tense we could hardly breathe, but we did it. When I went to one rein stop her to the right (that's the side I stopped her from when she bolted with me) she really threw her head in the air and resisted, so she's pretty scared of that side. I may try her steering off the halter for a while, but she so disrespects the halter, even the stiff one with the nose knots. If she spooks or gets fast, I know she's going to dump me cause she'll be afraid of me hurting her mouth, and I'm gonna do a pretty firm one rein stop cause I'll be afraid of her dumping me. It's a catch 22 situation, so need to come up with a plan. Any ideas are welcome.
Hope you have a great friday and stay dry. Take care.

Sounds like fixing the water problem is going to be a multi step process. Just like a project to grow and get complicated. And it's gonna take a long time to dry out if you keep getting rain. Yeah, your extra 150' of hose sounds like a good idea.
We're having the opposite here. We have sunny dry days with no rain day after day. Every now and then, they give us a 40% chance of rain for variety, I guess, but the days look the same, sunny and dry. Things aren't bad yet, but it'll be a rough summer if it stays this way.
Well, better get the day going. Hope you have a good Thursday and take care.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it was a very busy day with getting ready for the first show of the season. Got the trailer hooked up and all loaded up, except for some last minute stuff in the morning. Horses clipped, Lunged and turned out for an hour of pasture time too. Then weed whacked all around the place! I'm exhausted! Mo came home, finally after 5 days on the lamb! LOL! He was in the barn when I came back from Lungeing Paige. He was talking up a storm with me and was very happy to rub against my leg and be picked up and petted! He ate some of his food and then went outside and sat in the grass. Tonight he's on the MIA list again. But I know he's all right at least. Just not fond of Honey, that's all! LOL! I'll be back on line on HC on Sunday night. We show Friday and Saturday, I'll stay over night then and leave Sunday morning sometime for home. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well, it was raining when I got up, knew it was going to. So this morning went up to Wally World and did a big grocery shopping for the horse show. I'll be making sausage, peppers and onions for dinner for 15 people, geezzz I can just about handle making food for myself! Wish me luck! LOL! Then lunged Paige, who is feeling her oats so to say! And when we were just about done, the lightning and thunder started. I knew that I might have a problem with Honey, so I got Paige back to the barn and on the wall. Up to the house, and sure enough, Honey was panicked! Shaking like heck and panting! Got her ThunderShirt right on her and laid on the floor with her. After it all stopped, I took her to the barn with me as I still had to lunge Indy. She was okay in the barn. After I finished Indy, I trimmed Bullseye's feet. Then Honey and I went back to the house, she was pretty calm then and it was just raining. So now I have to worry about being away from the house when a storm is approaching. Poor baby girl. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.
