How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanship and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. Poor Sunset, harpooned by the vet. How DID she survive? So the vet and the dentist have very different ideas on floating teeth? Interesting. I'm kinda eager to get an equine dentist out and see how she gets on. Yeah, the vet ALWAYS sedate mine too.
Had a nice ride on Gracie yesterday. She has the sweetest little lope (I think I've said that before, lol). Her trot is a bit rough, but her lope, wow. It was a beautiful golden afternoon and I just couldn't resist a ride.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Another one on the chilly side to start out and with some big time wind to go with it! Did warm up to 70 degrees, but the winds kinda hung around all day. Honey and I got our walk in, but not without her ears flapping in the wind the entire time! She looked cute! Stacked another 100 pieces, probably just about 150 more to finish off that area of stacked wood and that job is done! Ran to town and did some errands, got some really good buys. And stopped and my Ford dealers, spun the wheel and got a $50 certificate off my next oil change. So in 10 days my cost hopefully will be only $50, yes diesels are very expensive to do! Got home and got the kids out, they were out about 2 hours today, like I said very windy! But they went out in sheets! Farrier coming in the am to pull Paige's fronts and trim all around now on her too, Indy's a trim as usual! Stopped over to see Kevin. He's walking so much better! Saw the incision, it's about an inch long only! He's so much happier now that he's out of pain! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi & a vote,
Rocky's scratches continue to improve. Switched back to using Microtek spray from the Vetericyn Plus that I used up now. Tonight the horses will get the tick topical also since tick season is here. I HATE those nasty ticks!

Come visit me, Rocky (the blue-eyed wonder horse), Comet (has new home) & Cowboy (Thanks for HOTD 1/19/2017!).

Yeah, that is weird that you're kind if having to nag a doc to get a Rx for cardiac rehab. Thought it was one of those automatic orders bundled with cardiac surgery.
Yes, I can see LaserSheen being a big help with getting burrs out. Sunset would be scared of the spray bottle though, lol.
So the vet got the days mixed up? Hope that appointment goes well. Does your farrier do teeth? My guys need their teeth done too. I've always used the vet for that, but I think I'm going to try an equine dentist this next time, if I can remember to call her.
Well, hope you have a great thursday.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well another chilly start to the day, only 38 F degrees when we got up. But did get up to a whopping 71 this afternoon. Nice strong sun and just a very light breeze! Honey is a nut, this morning when I tied her out for her 7 am potty call, she climbs up on the top of the wood pile! Up about 3 foot high! Great balance and skills to do that and not get a paw caught in the pile! Honey and I got in a nice 1.75 mile walk later this morning. I did get another 100 pieces of wood stacked, about 200 more and that area is full, the rest will lay in the pile and work out it to burn. No more room for stacking then! Kids were out for a few hours in the nice sunshine, sheets on them with the breeze however! Tomorrow have to go to town for a couple of errands, maybe a ride after that! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Sorry I didn't get to you till later yesterday. Quite honestly, I fell asleep in the middle of visiting (hadn't slept well that night and was blogging in bed under the warm covers). So I had to finish up in the evening.
Wow, makes you appreciate how much his poor chest wall went through in surgery when you hear that turning the steering wheel made him ache. I'm sure he's glad to be independent with driving again. Sure makes you feel good to have wheels under you and the freedom to go.
Rode Allie out in the pasture again yesterday. I was going to do some trotting but the herd was grazing in the back where the ground is kind of rutted and there are huge fire ant hills to avoid, so we just did more walking. We practiced straight lines and a little sidepassing, so it was another good ride. I also got another round bale to add to the collection for winter. Just need one or 2 more and we should be good. Hay is alot easier to find this year than last, thank goodness.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Good news about Scott! But hmmm, doesn't sound like the cardiac surgeon is all that concerned about cardiac rehab. Will that make it harder to talk Scott in to it?
Are your temps a bit lower? Sure hope so, seems like a cooling trend is in effect in a lot of places.
Haven't seen any HBs in a couple of weeks, guess it's time to take the feeder down.
I had a good ride on Allie out in the pasture yesterday. It's still just walking circles around her buddies, yielding the HQs, etc, but she stayed very relaxed the whole time, even with a lot of wind (she hates wind). So I was happy; that's huge for Allie.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well fall has gotten here! Or possible winter! Frost on the ground this morning, only 32 with a feels like 30! Did warm up with beautiful sunshine to about 58 degrees. Honey got her walk in for sure, I was bundled up! Then stacked my 100 pieces of wood. Finished my inventory on all my horsey grooming products from that corner, more than I thought I had. And actually have to more places I keep their stuff. I was a distributor for Healthy Haircare Products back when. So I have a lot of selling inventory left, I'll use it for my kids! Kids were out this afternoon! Gave Paige the day off, probably ride again Wed. Supposed to be about 10 degrees warmer during the day, but going down again near freezing tonight! They are sporting medium weight blankets! Kevin goes for his back surgery at 5 am in the morning, was over today with him. He's not nervous at all, can't wait he said to be pain free! Good for him! Hopefully he'll be home late afternoon! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Felt much better, but it's cold out there! Only hit a high of 54 F degrees! Going down to 30 F tonight, frost warnings are out! All set for our first wood burner stove fire tonight for sure! So I didn't get to stack any wood, but got tons of other stuff done. Even attacked the one corner of the Rec Rm and can reach the coat rack now and have all my horse shampoos and body stuff organized! Honey and I got a walk in for sure, but I did need my head band ear warmer and sinus protector! Winds were still bad then. But calmed down when I went to lunge and yes I did ride Paige and she was awesome for me! Indy got lunged. Then while they were on the wall I dragged the arena and fluffed it up again. Fed them lunch of hay and fresh water and finally at almost 4 pm said it's lunch time! But I did drink plenty of water today! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Oh, I love curry, one of my favorite spices, but it can be hot.
Hope the appointment with the surgeon goes well. Has he had any rehab appointments yet?
We had a great visit with my family. Got to see Kathryn and her baby daughter (3 mo) and her step daughter (7 yr). My folks are doing fairly well. Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well woke up to the misty drizzle again! This time it lasted longer! Wood guys got here about 9:45 with the last 2 cord load, so I'll be stacking some of it when it dries out. He said that it was really raining where the yard is and that's why it's so wet right now. No problem, it'll dry out! Honey did get her walk in, but of course half way through it, it started to drizzle pretty hard, so I got a tad bit wet! Honey didn't mind, she was happy to be walking! Didn't ride, just didn't feel right today. A little Vertigo acting up! I have to remember to drink more, especially now that it's cooler out, I forget to drink a good amount of fluids and it throws off my system! Hung out in the house with football. Gave the kids lunch about 2 pm. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi and a vote,
Rocky's hooves are trimmed. Still treating what remains of the heel scratches. This afternoon, Rocky, Blue and I went for a ride down the road, through the dog park and around to the stable nearby. Kept Blue on the leash to be safe and avoided any bow hunters by staying away from the woods. Rocky was happy to get his dinner and carrots. All are in the corral for the night.

Then did a couple of things, and then since the weather got a little warmer, out went the horses! I'd like to get them out as much as I can when it's still warm and a little pasture left to munch on! Wow, 2 months? Thats a long time to be unable to drive. And a long time to have to be a chauffeur.
Have you heard back from the fence guy yet?
I haven't seen any HBs lately either, but it's way time for them to have been gone by now anyway. We'll miss our little friends.
Is your weather cooling off any? Ours was a hair cooler and slightly less humid, but nothing like October should be. Nights are still above 70, which is more typical of the hottest part of the summer. So weird, and somehow doesn't seem healthy for the environment.
I rode Allie out in the pasture again yesterday and it was much less eventful than the other day. Again, just at a walk, and she's settling in to walking quite nicely. I'll have to add speed eventually, but I'm enjoying her more relaxed attitude for a while.
I'm headed down to my parents' this weekend so I'll be off line until monday. Hope you have a great weekend.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. OMG I was beat after getting up by 5:30 and being on the road by 7:30 am to get Kevin to the doctors appointment. Then of course we were 15 minutes late due to heavy go to work traffic near the towns close to the doctors office! Then it was an hour before we got out of there! Another hour and 30 minutes ride home. Got home right at noontime. Kayla texted and said she'd be here about 1:15. Okay, not really enough time for a much needed nap, so I ate some salad and went down and groomed and tacked up Paige, took her to the indoor and lunged her. Kayla got here just as I was finished lunging. Paige was good for her again! At the tail end, Kayla even took her bridle off and did some turns on the haunches and walked her off just with the neck rein around her. She has such a way with them! So soft! As if I wasn't tired enough, I had to run up to Wally World and do some grocery major shopping, or no crock pot cooking this weekend! Got home and napped for like almost 2 hours before night time feeding. Still feed tired however! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Wow, don't know how you got y'alls salt intake down that low, but strong work! Of course, if it stays this hot, he might sweat out a lot of salt (playing the devil's advocate, lol). Yeah, I think the 4-5000 mg is standard for everybody, not after cardiac issues. And most of us still blow that out of the water.
Good for Lilly, ignoring Bucky already. By the prepurchase video, it looked like she had been exposed to a lot of cattle, which may help? My herd would pretty much self destruct if I brought a Bucky around.
I rode Miss Allie out in the pasture yesterday. She was way more relaxed and we were able to ride long straight lines without trying to trot. Ironically, she also had one big spook where she jumped forward (you know how wolves like to sneak up on you, lol). Fortunately, she didn't bolt back to her buddies after she jumped. And Gracie took a dive at her. Wow, with enough motivation, that little Tacky can spin! I wound up over her shoulders, so again, I'm grateful that didn't turn into a buck or more spinning, but it was funny. And it was another hot steamy day so Allie got a shower after the ride. Everybody could've used one, they were all sweaty at supper time.
Well, hope you have a great thursday.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well a little cooler this morning and overcast. Honey and I did get our walk in, just in time. Sprinkles on and off all day long and cool and nasty. So Paige got lunged and then showmanship. Served up lunch of hay and fresh water and Honey and I hung out in the house then. Well actually I walked over to see Kevin, but he wasn't home! Turns out he went for blood work and something else to get ready for the back surgery hopefully next week. He called me at 6:30 tonight and asked if I could drive him to Bergen County for his cardiologist appt for the EKG for his surgery and check up. So we have to leave here by 7:30 am, it's about a 90 minute drive there! Taking my truck as we both don't trust his car! He can't drive that far with the meds he's on for the pain and detox! Just hope we're home by noontime, as Kayla will be here then to work with Paige and I. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

I laughed all day thinking about Bucky. Not sure the horses will ever be fans. You could put him on wheels so you could have him "walk" around, lol.
It sure was steamy here yesterday after the rain we had but we needed it so much I'm not complaining. High was at least 88 and I think the humidity was about the same. Seems like it's never gonna cool off this year.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the suns shinning and it's nice out! Of course the darn flies thought so too! Honey and I got a nice walk in mid morning. Ran to town and did some grocery shopping on sale items at the Acme. Home and did a few things, then turned the horses out. But it was 78 degrees and no wind! So I guess from all the rain and humidity, the flies were out in force! They last just about 2 hours. While they were out, I mowed out back by the manure pile, hopefully last for that! This train ride is definitely a tourist train, not a real traveling train at all, but it's a blast. 32 mile round trip along a river, and an hour stop in another small scenic town before returning, so the whole ride takes 4 hrs. That's the 3rd time I've done it over the years for the kids and it's always fun. Mattie wants to take a long trip, like down to Disney, on a train one day.
We had a great time in the mountains. The storm moved through really fast sunday night and the worst was more east anyway, so the train ride monday was dry. Madison LOVED it, loved the mountains, wants to do it again next year. The leaves weren't quite peak yet but still pretty, and we passed the biggest pumpkin patch I've ever seen, acres of them. Beautiiful. Alot of the people who paid good money to ride in the regular coach came out and sat in the open cars to see the sites and feel the breeze. I'll post some pics on FB. I'm very grateful for a safe trip and everything at home was okay too.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well good ole' Nate hit here about 2 am or so! With heavy rains at first and wind! By the time he was all done and over, about 4 pm, we got close to 2 inches of rain in the gauge. But talk about humid! Day started at 70 degrees with 100% humidity and actually stayed that way all day long! No walk of course for Honey and I! Horses got groomed and then lunged! Buy the time I was done lunging the two of them in the indoor, I was soak n wet from the humidity! So were they from lunging! We could have worked outside and been just as wet! So now they are saying tomorrow sunny and in the mid to high 70's again! So not like this time of the year for us. So glad you're loving Lilly's size and she's just right for you. Proportionally, she doesnt look like a pony at all. Did you get to ride yesterday at all?
Shoot, sorry the fence guy didn't show up and you have to look for someone else. Maybe you can find someone on the TSC bulletin board.
I rode Allie and BJ yesterday. Allie was a good girl, other than wanting to speed up all the time. She stopped and turned nicely. Still just walking, but I'll add more speed again soon. I'm not going to change her inclination to go faster by not occasionally going faster. BJ just gets a short walking ride when I do ride him because of his heaves. I played around with riding him with no reins and he did really well, even did some stuff I've never tried without reins like sidepassing and spinning. I had to pick up the reins briefly a few times, but mostly I was able to ride without them. He always amazes me.
I'll probably be off line tomorrow. Tomorrow is Madison's birthday and we have reservations to ride the Smokey Mountain Railroad. Yes, in an open car. Yes, during a hurricaine. But by the time I realized the storm was tracking right up the Appalachins, it was too late to cancel. Wish us luck.

HI Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it started out at 57 degrees and got up to 80 today! But we did have somewhat of a breeze at least! So the flies weren't too bad! Took some first cut timothy to the barn for Bullseye. Then got the big tractor and pushed back the weed and brush by the manure pile, so I can see what I'm doing at night time! The dragged the indoor and fluffed it up nice! Hopefully a ride tomorrow on Paige! Then attacked behind the indoor with the weed whacker, all down, hopefully that's it for the year now too! Went downtown and Teresa showed me how to transfer over photos from my cloud to my Tablet, so now I can use them direct to FB is I want. Came home and turned the kids out for a couple of hours. Played with the Tablet and watched the Notra Dame football game, my favorite college team. They won! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hope he'll go at least a few times before he makes a decision. He might really kinda like it.
So glad you got to ride again and that Lilly is catching on to the bosal. Sounds like she likes it cause it frees up her mouth for eating, lol. Bet she looks good all tacked up in it. Is the shorter girth working out well? Are you loving her little size?

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it was a nice sunny warm day, but a little on the humid side! Hit 77 degrees! So Honey and I got in a nice walk and chatted for a while with a gentlemen way down the road. Nice guy! Took some hay to the barn and then cooled off. Tacked up Paige and lunged her and then worked her on ground poles at the jog and lope. She's doing so well. Only going to work her like 3 times a week at short intervals. I find that better for her and her mind! Let her cool of with showmanship and then the wall while I went and had lunch. They went out for about 2 hours, the flies were getting to them, especially Indy, Mr. I hate flies! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

That's cool you have a fence guy already. Will he be able to fix that post pretty quick for you, or will you still need to shore it up first?
So Ms Piggy is all shiney again? Hope you get another ride on her soon.
Hasnt the moon been gorgeous the last couple of nights? It looked big as a house and orange coming up over the Clemson field last night. Madison and I had to go out and stare at it a while.
I rode Allie out in the pasture yesterday, used her buddies as obstacles to ride around. She kept wanting to trot, so we just kept weaving in and out between them and she eventually relaxed into just walking. A straight line sure seems to tempt her to go faster, and even loose, she often trots or runs when she has somewhere to go. Always in a hurry. But she did well and it was fun being out of the riding ring.
Well, hope you have a great friday.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Day started out with nice weather, although it did stay warm, mid 70's at least! Honey and I got in a 1.75 mile walk. Came home and finished stacking the wood, yay! But when I measured it out, it's a litter shy of 2 cords, but I do stack it tight! I'll tell Beth when I order the next two cords. Relaxed a little, and then weed whacked around the house and behind the barn and by the entrance to the indoor. Finished and it was really getting dark and nasty looking. So went with mowing instead! Got the lawn done, behind the barn and entrance to the indoor! Not without leaving a trail of oil spots in my driveway, probably while I was mowing too! Gave the kids lunch of hay and fresh water. Went in, it was 3:30 by then and made lunch. Never did get the rain or thunder storms they were talking about on the weather channel, they stayed south of us. And I have to say, only felt a little punky last night after the flu shot and fine today. I remember last year really feeling yucky for like almost 3 days from it and a swollen knot at the injection site. Nothing this year, not even sore at all! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Wish I could come help you with that post. Then we could go ride when we're done, dirty horses and all. If you find a fence guy, send him over to SC, I have a whole line that needs replacing.
It's a beautiful day here today, hoping to ride, but we'll see. Have a great thursday.

Hi & a vote,
Have been so busy over the past weeks with my son's wedding this past Saturday!! It was a wonderful and special family event and now they are off on their honeymoon, then return to Chicago. So now, trying to catch up on things. I did get to ride Rocky on Sunday afternoon and the weather was still mild for this time of year. Poor Rocky, neglected during the wedding activities, I had to do lots of brushing, detangling mane, knots in tail, etc. Now treating some scratches that developed on his back heels. His pink skin seems more prone to developing scratches as my friends two horses never get it. Treating daily now and already improving and one side is nearly clear and the other will take longer. I usually use Micro-tek gel and ran out, but Tractor Supply didn't have any near us, so I got Vetericyn Plus for now. Not sure yet how well this will work.

Come visit me, Rocky (the blue-eyed wonder horse), Comet (has new home) & Cowboy (Thanks for HOTD 1/19/2017!).

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well no sinus headache or pressure today, yay! I think the cold mornings and waking up in a cold house did it to me! I actually had a ton of energy too today! Honey and I got a nice long walk in. Then stacked my goal of 100 pieces of wood. Groomed, shaved and lunged Paige and then some Showmanship work. Indy got groomed and shaved. It was then time to shower and leave for the Lung Dr. Did two errands on the way there. He said I didn't have anything going on with the sinuses that he could see or tell. So I got my flu shot. Got home and turned the kids out right away, it was so nice out. About 75F degrees. Thursday they are saying we could see 80 degrees! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

How did the crockpot salmon turn out? Never thought about fish in a crockpot either.
I guess you need the rain still, but hate it messed up your riding.
I got to ride Allie yesterday, this time on the other side of the riding ring. There's a little slope down to the gate there so she got some practice carrying me up and down a hill. BJ hung out with us and was being a pill, which isn't like him at all, kept wandering over and pinning his ears at her. Maybe he was getting her back for how she did him the other day when I rode him out in the pasture, lol.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Hi Cheryl, Sorry I haven't been able to blog much the past couple of days. We're nearing the tax extension deadline on the 16th so it's been a bit busy. I hope you had a nice weekend! We are getting chilly weather for the past two days, then back up to the 80s for a week, then back to the 70s lol. Our weather is a bit confused! I had a great weekend! On Sunday, I went with my friend Dayna out to explore one of the trails that I am walking distance from at Koot's new place! We went on a 45 min trail, but there's also a 1 1/2 long ride and 2 1/2 long ride. I want to get him in better shape before I take him on the longer trails, but it was soo much fun! Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

Come visit me, Kootenai *Thanks for Sept HOTM!*.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well still chilly wake up calls from mother nature! 38 F this morning! Had the chimney guy coming so had to hold off on Honey's walk, but we stacked some wood waiting for him. Well, they needed to repair the top of the chimney platform! OHY, had to go to the bank and get cash, big discount for cast, so down I went and withdrew some out of the Home Equity Acc't! Thank goodness for that line of credit! All fixed! And liner to wood burner all cleaned out! Then Honey and I did out 1.75 mile walk. I woke up with a screaming sinus headache, all day long! So didn't ride, but since it was so nice out, they were out for like 3 hours of pasture time! I took a nap, still had the damn headache when I got up to bring then in. Oh well, Lung doctor tomorrow for my 3 month asthma checkup and hopefully flu shot. But I kinda doubt the flu shot feeling like this. Think I have a sinus thing brewing! Change in weather usually gets me this time of the year! Oh well! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Oh wow, he came around by himself? Just had to think on it a while, maybe. Good for him, and I know that makes you happy.
Yay, finally a ride! Yeah, the bosal's signal has to be little weird at first, but don't you just love using it? Once they get used to it, you can get them soooo light in it. I may never use a bit again, lol.
No, no tutor yet. I'm not getting any real response to asking about it. The teacher does have "office hours" and "study halls" where students can get extra help, so maybe she's waiting for Madison to show some incentive and go there. I need to look up the times she's available. We spent ALL day on a 45 min math test yesterday, literally from 9 am to 8 pm, less my grocery shopping trip and Mattie's counseling session. No lunch, no supper, no riding, nothing but algebra. And only made a 77. Sigh.
Maybe today will be horsey. I have an appointment with a solar company this am, but they're pretty expensive, so I'm gonna shop around. Not sure about going solar, but the tax credits drop in 2019 and expire in 2021, so I'm looking into it.
Well, better get this day going. Have a great tuesday.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.
