How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanship and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well started out cold 20 degrees but with bright sunshine! Never thought with the sky the way it was that we'd be getting a snow storm later on! So I took the tractor over to Kevin's and he aired up the rear tires, only to find out that the valve stems are kinda shot! So Monday when I go to town, I'll pick up two new valve stems for it. He also put my new YakTrax on my other boots for me, so now I have the old ones for softer ice, and the new ones for the bullet proof ice! Dragged the indoor really good too. Lunged Paige and did showmanship, lunged Indy and practiced setting up for halter. Bully got to free run. Gave them lunch and the took Honey for a walk. But then it had really clouded over and was getting nasty! Sure enough, right after we got home, the snow started! Almost 2 inches already when I fed tonight! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Dee is doing better, eating again. She's been kinda dull all winter, not sure why. I know she needs her teeth done, and I wormed her good back in early January, but she just doesn't have her usual zest.
Not much here. I heard yesterday was gorgeous, high 70s and sunny. Today is supposed to be cooler and rain, but we'll see. You know how forecasting is. Anyway, have a good saturday.

Rain here and some of the ice has melted. Still like glass. yay got my Traks today. I'm going to need them. It was really nice this morning then about 2 the winds came in. So I got ready and went to the barn. When I got there all the horses were in. Wasn't sure if Jax was out. If he was he would have been wet. So I groomed him and we played with his brushes. He likes to bit them and hold them in his mouth. lol I put his medium weight blanket back on. It was damp in the barn with the temps going down to the teens I wanted to make sure he was warm. Sarah is buying hay. It looks okay. She said it had a lot of timothy in it. Seems more like straw. But, I may have seen a not so good bale. Right now we are having snow flurries and the water has frozen over. Vicki & Big Jax

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well nasty rainy and then got really windy later on! Did in between the break in the rain get another 4 bales of hay to the barn and a bag of shavings for Bully! Went down my usual time to start to work them, and it was getting windy as heck out. So forwent the idea of saddling up Paige and just went with lunging and showmanship. Glad I did cause the gusts of winds were really bad! Just finished up with her and was getting Indy ready to take out and down came the rains like a giant bucket of water! So he never made it to the indoor. Rain and winds were horrible all afternoon and the temps are dropping! Going down into the teens they are saying tonight. Just lovely cause this will be a frozen mess of ice and mud out there! Oh the joys of winter! NOT! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Little Cinni apparently knew how to pull at one time, I just don't have the stuff nor the time to drive, but it looks like a ton of fun.
Seems like when people start worrying about their health, they worry as much about the small stuff as the big stuff. Hard to keep it all in perspective, I guess. Is his leg starting to feel better yet?
Rode Allie again yesterday. Didn't have a lot of time and it was pretty windy, so we didn't get much done, but even a short ride is always an accomplishment. It was tee shirt weather here too, supposed to be even warmer today.
Well, off to work I go. Have a great friday.

So looking forward to t shirt weather. I was happy just taking my winter coat off. Today was heaven. It made it into the high 40's. My driveway is still like glass. I went out to see Jax I cleaned his water buckets. Then I groomed him. Yay lots of hair. Spring is coming. Not sure when but its coming. We start off warm tomorrow but then the cold comes in. Jax has no blanket on but I'll go back tomorrow about 2 and put it back on. It is going from the 40's to the low teens. Then back up next week. Is Scott still walking each day? Vicki & Big Jax

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well no sun till late this afternoon, but the temps hit 54 degrees! WOW did it finally do a job and melt off the ice! Still have a little left in front of the barn, but everything else is clear! Of course this is going to be to make more for Sat into Sun with 4 to 6 inches of snow possible! Got 6 bales of hay to the barn. Paige lunged and showmanship, Indy lunged and halter and some showmanship work. Bullseye free lunged. Then lunch of hay and fresh water for them. Honey and I got in a mile walk too! so productive day for sure! Possible rain tonight into tomorrow, then going cold again! Up and down like a yo-yo! Good news is, my new YakTrax are here! I'm ready! Glad Scott is relaxing a bit about his leg. He's gone from pooh-poohing major chest pain to worrying about every little thing? And with good reason, I guess. He's had quite the scare.
Well, there ya go, put Cisco to work pulling a cart. He could do it even with his back. I'm pretty sure death would result if I tried to make a driving horse out of Allie, lol. She spooks way too much (though most Tackies hardly ever spook).
Sorry I missed yesterday. I had an early staff meeting that went over, then algebra went over, then I had to get busy. I did get to ride Allie for the first time in probably 2 weeks or so. She did well, got 2 good spin steps from both directions (way too slow to be called a spin yet) and we loped some figure 8s. It was SO good to be back on!
Well, enjoy your warmer temps and hope you see some rain.

Can't wait to go outside without a jacket. I bet she was happy for the blanket to be off. I went out and groomed Jax and he was so happy with me. When I scratched his neck it looked like he was going to touch the ceiling. If it gets into the 50's tomorrow I will take his blanket off. But, I have to keep eye on the weather. It is supposed to rain and then drop into the 20's. So more ice. I'll probably put a lighter blanket on him. I hate when it is up and down. Enjoy your weather! Darn mice a good indicator that spring is coming. The mice have arrived. Little pains. How is Scott. Nice weather should help with his healing. How about you? Nothing like the warmth of the sun for the soul. Vicki & Big Jax

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well woke up to a sheet of black ice out there! Schools were delayed for 60 to 120 minutes and accidents all over the place. Kevin said the drive to work was horrible! He slide a few times too he said! So Honey and I went to the local feed store to get Bullseye's grain and they were giving out a box of heart shaped doggie cookies to every dog that came in. So you know that Honey was a happy girl. And she got to make friends with a golden named Spike! They were great together, and she loved the bunny in cage on the floor! Didn't get the kids to the indoor today. Had the chiro for that back that's still not 100% from those two ice falls! Speaking of which, got my tracking number and the new YakTrax will be here Thursday! YAY! Went and did my grocery shopping after the chiro. Tomorrow will be lunging day for sure, might even saddle up Paige, could be in the low 50's, YAY! Maybe all the rest of the ice will go away then! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

We'll have to wait and see if I can get a ride in or not on the weekend.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well we got beautiful strong sunshine with a high of 35 degrees! Sure helped to melt off a lot more of that ice! I'd say the walk way to the barn is now 80% clear! YAY! From the barn to indoor is all clear now. Just out to the water dumping area is a big mess yet, but that's in the shade! So hopefully Wed with temps hitting the mid 40's and sun again, that will deplete a little more. Got the kids to the indoor for exercise! Paige was like BatChit Crazy on the line! Boy did she throw some good bucks in! Bet if felt good to her! Indy started on the line, then went and got free lunged! He too was full of himself. Bullseye was quiet and I had to chase him with the lunge whip! LOL! Lazy Ass! Literally! LOL! Then they got hay and fresh water for lunch. Honey and I got a little walk in, only about 1/2 mile total. But still felt good! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Oh no, sorry your friend's hubby had a heart attack too. Didn't really want that much in common, huh? Glad he's doing okay. Glad the doc thinks Scott's bruise is nothing and will get better too.
I guess it's good that you might get some rain, but you hate to bid farewell to pretty days.
A Tacky friend (who incidently shows cutting horses) has her little Tacky gelding in driving school (that sounds funny). She put up a video of him out driving down a dirt road and he looked REALLY good. He's a liver chestnut with 2 hind stockings, so kinda flashy, and that long sweepy Tacky trot was covering some serious ground.
Well, not sure what today looks like, weather wise. I heard it was almost 70 yesterday though very overcast. Anyway, have a great tuesday.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well not much more melted overnight even though the temps were in the high 40's! They did drop to 34 at morning, so that kinda froze it all up again! Spread another bag of ice melt down by the barn to the indoor, but as of 1 pm not enough melted off to get them to the indoor for exercise. So got another bag and laid that down again! Plus had to put some on the walk way down to the barn! Sun finally came out, but not long enough to make a big difference in melting it! And tonight it's going down to 15 degrees, so it'll freeze back up! GRRR! But made the best of it and got Bullseye all trimmed up, done for another 8 weeks or so! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

We do a ton of angios in our unit (but for neuro purposes) and you're doing exactly right. The bruising after 2 accesses is normal. Watch it for heat and swelling, and him for fever, like you're doing. Some tenderness, and pain with walking is normal too, but should get better as he moves around. Glad he isn't having any chest pain.
We wound up with 3/4 inch from that system before it slid east of us. Talk about mud! And wish me luck, I'm back at work today.

Hi & a vote,
Sending continued prayers for you and Scott both!

This weekend we had fog and mostly rain, but freezing on surfaces for sure yesterday and today even more icy in the morning.
Yesterday, I was a little afraid of the roads to the North, but in mid-afternoon, had no trouble getting Blue to Agility. This was his last class until April 14, due to agility trials using the facility. They said the owner of the place has one of her dogs in agility at Westminster! They have all nice Aussies.
Then a quick stop at PetsMart to get a new nose harness for Blue. His clip broke on his when he got his nail trim last and must have pulled away hard!!
Next stop barn. Brushed Rocky (and he did shed a few of the longest hairs). Dropped off his supplement that had been delivered to my house. Blue ran around and had fun, there wasn't much rain right at that time.
Sunday a.m. icy. Waited to go to the nursing home until the afternoon with Blue. Everyone was happy to see him and he performed a few tricks for people and got some smiles. Checked on my mother who is mostly recovered now from her upper respiritory infection (relief)! Then left to get home tonight before it gets icy again!! I need new Yak Trax too!! Hope you had a nice weekend.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the rains were here all day long! Don't have the rain gauge out cause it's the type that will bust when frozen! But figure about 1.5 inches at least. Will see what the local weather station says later. So the ice is horrible! It's not melting fast enough and the walk down to the barn and indoor is not good at all! YakTrax are holding me steady however! Kids didn't get anywhere today! So lunch of hay and fresh water! Kevin got here about noon and we fixed the tines on the York Rake, and then he helped me clean up the one mat in Indy's stall that always builds up with bedding! He holds it up and out of the way standing on it and I scrap out all the urine soaked mess, Indy's a bit of a pig like that! LOL! That's done now for about a month or so! Sunshine hopefully tomorrow and 40's, maybe melt enough for me to get to the barn and indoor! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

So glad Scott is doing okay back at home. How's his pain level?
Dad's tests have all come back okay. They're still keeping him, trying to find out why he's throwing clots from time to time, which I think is oddly tenacious of them. Seems like often, a source is never found, the docs shrug their shoulders, put you on thinners, and send you home.
The heavy rains stayed just to the west of us so we mostly just had fog. Very warm (61 in the wee hours). If your weather is any predicter, temps may drop. Do you really think this will be your last cold snap? Seems like March and even April can hold some late surprises.
Ha, so like cats to want to want to check and see if the weather has changed in the last 10 mins. Is it summer yet? Is it summer yet?

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the rains held off till later this afternoon! YAY! Actually spent the morning cleaning the house! Yes I said house, I hate house work! But the Honey hair was mounting! Got the tractor out and scraped off more of the driveway and gravel driveway, still has more ice, but not to bad now! Got 3 bales of hay to the barn, wanted to take another load, but it was slick going down that little hill and even the YakTrax weren't grabbing the softer snow and mush! So not chancing slipping and pulling my own tendons on my knees! Got the kids to the indoor for some playtime too! Well Lunging and halter work. Finished up with hay and fresh water for them at about 3 pm. That's just when it started to rain and it hasn't stopped yet! But last check out the window before it got dark, it melted off a lot more of the ice/snow combo out there! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

How is Scott doing now that he's home? Is the higher dose of Imdur helping? It is all scary.
My dad is in the hospital too. He threw a clot to his foot, which has since desolved, but they're trying to figure out why he threw it, and looking into a few other things they've found along the way as well, like his stomach wall has thickening (don't like the sound of that). He has an EGD this am, then hopefully home.
We had a sunny warm day yesterday, I think it hit 60. I got Dee's hinds trimmed, they really only needed a light rasping. She tends to drag her toes a little so that she squares them off, so I rasped them back into a more normal shape.
Well, hope you have a great weekend.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well weather men screwed it up again! First two days ago they said 40% chance of snow today, then yesterday they said sun! Well it started out sunny for like an hour, then overcast and an hour later! SNOW! Snowed all day long, but that light slow snow, so only about 3/4 inch out there now! Tomorrow 60% chance of rain and Sunday rain all day, but temps will be in the mid 40's! So they kids got a spa day today. Lunch of hay of course and fresh water. Honey and I just hung out together all day long in the house! Just felt damp and raw, even with the wood burner going full blast, I just couldn't get the place as warm as I like! So glad Scott is home. I hope they find the reason for the pain. It will help you both. I think the hospital was right in getting Scott out of there with all the flu around. He and you don't need that on top of everything.
City came and took the snow away this morning. Which is good, we have another storm on the way. Plus my dead end street is barely big enough for two cars when roads are clear. With all this snow it was a single lane. Went out this morning and checked on Jax. He came trotting up to me. Of course, I had his treats. He looks great. Glad he was out in the big paddock. He can trot around and roll. I know there is ice under but we have so much snow it can't hurt him. Came home to clean streets and just in time here comes the snow. So I am in for the night. So glad the "old man" is home. He sure has been put through the grinder lately. How is he feeling? Hope frequent chest pain isn't something he's gonna have to live with, and it gets better with some healing.
Only 1/8th of an inch? Wish you had gotten more. Any more rain forecast any time soon? We're still too muddy to do much, though it's been warm and sunny since the rain moved out. I curried them a bit yesterday but it didn't help much. That are all shedding now, so that means spring is coming, right?

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well what a frozen tundra out there this morning! OMG! About 1/2 ice on top of the wet now kinda frozen snow, with what rain could make it to the bottom, was more ice! Was able to get the big gate open to the entrance pasture to the barn. So after it warmed up and some of the blacktop of the driveway was melting, I figured I'd give it a try! Got the tractor out of the hay barn and headed down to the horse barn with the York Rake dropped to break it up! Got out to the manure pile too, and then from the barn to the indoor and the pass through indoor door! YAY! But on the way back up, hit a heavy spot of ice and busted 2 teeth off the York Rake, so some fixing to do over the weekend! But was able to safely walk them to the indoor for some much needed lunging! Both were a little full of themselves! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

HI Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the snow came and left by noontime, but the bad news is that the 3 inches we got that was fluffy is now solid heavy crap with sleet and rain mixed in with it! Took the tractor out about 5 pm to do just the black top behind the truck and width of the driveway up to the road! Rest of driveway will hopefully get done tomorrow after the sun thaws it out a little! Going done to 15 overnight, so you know it's going to be solid ice! Kids got a good spa day today, deep currying and vacuuming for them! Lunch of warm water and hay! Then my lunch, crock potted some Sausage, Peppers and Onions over rice then. Yummy! So, I got a text from JW my regular farrier this morning! "I would like to thin you for choosing Shoofly Farrier in the past for your horse's care. However, I wanted to make you aware that I have opted to pursue a new path and will no longer provide farrier services. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as you seek a new farrier. JW Goolsby." And there were plenty of people in our NJ Horse Group on FB asking about new farriers! So he has retired from everyone! Wonder if he got seriously hurt or health issues, he's not saying anything about why! Glad that I found Rob! I did have one other that is about 45 minutes away who I know is good, he's still on the back burner if I need to change over! Always something! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well woke up to it snowing! Only lasted a couple of hours and maybe 1/2 inch! Just enough to cover the ice so you had to guess where it was the worst when walking. Waiting on those new YakTrax and get an email today that they are on back order! Lovely! So by 1 pm the sun was out and melting off more of the driveway at least. I did get the kids out to the indoor, Indy and Paige both got lunged and Bullseye got to run free. I was able to open the main big door, so then after they got lunch and fresh water, I was able to get the big tractor down there and really fluff up the indoor! Then I used the bucket to scrape more of the lower end of the driveway and also the gravel side, want it smooth if I need to snow blow that part tomorrow! Main forecast is 4 to 7 inches, but then the local radio station said 3 to 5 inches! Heck I'd be happy with 1 to 3, but we know I won't be that lucky. And please let it stay as snow! No rain and sleet mixed in! But I doubt it! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Glad he woke you up, but hate that he's still having the pressure. You'd like to think everything is clean and happy after 4 stints.
Ah, you have some rain forecast too? Hope you get it. Honestly, I'm tired of the mud. I come up from chores with a pound of the stuff clinging to each boot, but we've been so behind that I dare not complain. Yesterday was beautiful but too muddy to ride, so I brought Dee up and trimmed her fronts (transfer of a good amount of mud from her legs to my jeans). She has a long high neck and she likes to block you with her head as you go from side to side, so I worked on that little problem for a bit. Also sprayed in some conditioner to her mane and tail, trimmed her bridle path with my low tech trimmers (aka, scissors), and trimmed a wee bit off the end of her tail to keep her from stepping on it and pulling hairs out. She has a beautiful thick tail if it's kept just short enough to prevent her stepping on it. She's really showing her age this year though (turns 19 in the spring).
Well, might get to ride today, but then we've got rain forecast again wed and/or thur. Hope you have a great tuesday.

Come visit me, Allie & BJ and his mom Gracie.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well called Rob this morning while I was still in the barn and thinking about it. Said I have a question for you, please don't be offended or mad at me. First the horses were nice and sound and traveling great on both Sat and Sun when lunged, thank you! Now start out nice, then hit with the questions. I'd just like to know why you didn't par out much sole at all, and not much of a roll on the edges of the hoof wall. He said in this frozen ground and the ice clumps, he likes to leave some protection for the sole and coffin bone to avoid bruising. I did roll over the edges, maybe not as much as your used too. Okay thank you, makes sense about not removing a lot of sole. So with the 1.5 inches of snow and then sleet and rain, it first off killed my Dish Network last night, had to watch the game on the computer on the NFL channel! But at least I got to see the Eagles fly all over the Patriots, YAY! No one got out today for that same reason, everything turned to pure ice over night. Had to spread out a bag of the new salt to get the driveway cleaned up, even the tractor would not have been able to do it! Just would have spun my wheels on it! So they got lunch and fresh water and are fine. Hopefully tomorrow it'll warm up enough to get the to the indoor! As for Wed, 4 to 7 inches of snow with maybe more sleet mixed in with it! Oh the joys of winter! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi & a vote,
Lillie stepped on you? That's no fun! Hope you got those med mixups all set. Scary.
We ended up with only about 2 to 2.5 inches of snow. But it was VERY ICY on all sidewalks, driveways, etc. here today!! Yikes! But, the actual roads were fine.
Can't wait until weather is better to go on walks again during the week. That will be relaxing.

So glad you got Scott home. Always gotta be at least one med or office visit discrepancy. How's he doing?
Thats good that your bumps aren't bad.
We had freezing rain yesterday morning, but not too bad. Got almost 2 inches, so everything is really muddy again, but we needed it. I was out early in the mess trying to blanket horses with frozen brains who were jumping around and snorting like they'd never been handled in their lives. So aggrevating! By afternoon, it was quite sunny and I was able to take their blankets back off.
Well, hope you and Scott have a quiet day. Take care.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well we finally got the snow for about 4 hours before changing over to rain! And with the temps, it's got my dish for my Dish Network froze up! If I can't watch the Super Bowl, I'm gonna be really ticked off! So at any rate, NFL channel or NBC on my tablet should be able to play it! So the horses got to the indoor and lunged. I noticed that the new farrier don't take any sole off and he didn't bevel the bottom of the hoof wall! I'll be calling him tomorrow to ask why he didn't do the soles really and why he don't round them so that they don't break up the hoof wall! I went to Tractor Supply and brought 6 more bags if ice melt! They were out of my favorite that works great and can double as stuff for the indoor to keep the dust down, the Mag/Cal mix! So I could have spent $3 more a bag for the other Mag/Cal but it's already expensive enough. So I went with the Halite salt. It does say it will work even at about 5 degrees outside. So hopefully it'll do the job, probably need it on the driveway tomorrow! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Oh wow, 4 stints? Hope the angina is nothing and he can come home today. That's great that you had a friend who could help you get his car home, and already having his meds will sure shorten your running around when he gets discharged.
Goodess, glad you're okay from the trampling. Mares! And they sure attack when their rival is most vulnerable. Do you have bruises today?
Blown away was the right word for the play. Freakin wow! Seeing stuff like that on TV let's you see closer up than the seats (I can afford), but you don't get the full range of the music and voices like you do in person. I didn't know humans could sing like that. Mattie and I were speechless.
Because the play was early afternoon, didn't get to ride, and today is rain, maybe some mixed ice/sleet whatnot thrown in later. Delightful, lol. Anyway, hope Scott gets to come home today and y'all have a great sunday.

I sure hope you are okay. Thank you for carrying a phone with you. Scary that Sunset went after Lilly. She probably didn't like that you were taking her out and not her. They do get jealous. I'm glad they kept Scott another day. You don't need him home and then have something happen. Your hospital is to far away.Hopefully all is good now. Please tell him to be good. If you need, tell him you are bringing in the big guns from NY to make him mind. lol You have my number call anytime. Vicki & big Jax

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it was cold this morning, only 09 with a chill factor of -05! But the sun was out and it got strong and it did get up to about 24 and melted some of the snow/ice stuff. New farrier was here about 10 am, I like him. Not sure about his trim on Paige, I would have done one thing a little different, but we'll see. If I can over to him, I save $40 on two trims, and when Paige goes back in shoes I'll be saving $45 on the two of them. That does add up over the year, but just not sure yet! Have to think about it! Did finally get them out about 1 pm to the indoor for some exercise, just Paige and Indy. Then gave them lunch and I can up and hung out and defrosted in the house by the wood burner! Let's see what tomorrow brings, snow to rain and back to snow/ice again! Is this ever going to stop! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

SOOO glad Scott is okay and should come home soon. But that's kinda scary that he's partially blocked 2 arteries again. Glad the docs royally fussed at him for ignoring the chest pain.
Dare I say? It was beautiful down here though only got to 49 with wind (don't laugh, that's chilly for us). I spent several hours working on the wood fence that goes around the front. I've been replacing rotten boards for several years now, a little at a time as I find the time and money. Then rode Allie. She did pretty good. I found that she'll do a simple lead change (with a couple trot steps) easily if I change directions at a lope. I'm fortunate that way, none of my horses like going around on the wrong lead.
Today, Mattie and I have tickets to go see The Phantom of the Opera in the big city of Greenville. We've never seen it and are very excited. She'll get to sport her new 'do.
Well, hope your saturday is better than your friday was. Take care.
