How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanship and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well yesterday was a wash out. Rains and just plain nasty out there. So it became a spa day for everyone. Clipped and spruced up! Three times it looked like it stopped later on in the afternoon. So I went to try and take Honey for our long walk, and nope, it's misty and damp! Today it's going back up to the low 60's with some sunshine, so it'll be a ride day for sure. Don't think they'll get out, as it's very soggy out there again! Run to Tractor Supply this morning, Honey will co-pilot of course. And today we'll get that walk in too! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Nothing new here. Got more rain headed to us today, maybe tomorrow. We had an inch and a half monday. I'm not having to water the tomatoes, lol. I do need to trim BJ'S hinds and give them all their vaccines. A rainy day might be a good day to do that, then any swelling is naturally hosed off.

Come visit me, BJ and his mom Gracie & Allie.

I am very happy to hear that. I'm sure you are. What a great feeling. I hope they don't hurt themselves running and playing. You are a great mom. Had a couple days of sun now its raining. However, it's a warm rain. Just back to the mud. At least I got his feet clean for a day. Jax had his shots today. He wasn't a happy camper. Went and got his supplements. I tried another just didn't work. Vicki & Big Jax

Hi & a vote,
Quick visit to Rocky last night and he got a few carrots along with the others. Blue was happy to run free.
Today it is raining all day. So our short stretch of sunny days is over for a little while.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well yesterday didn't get as warm, but I'll settle for the 64 degrees it did get to! Ms Paige was a little full of herself on the lunge line, so instead of 15 minutes before I ride, she needed 25 to work out the kinks! Have some bucks and leaps in her at the lope! Spring Fever! LOL! But was a doll to ride. Worked more on suppling and did a lot of loping to get that collection staying there! Put her on the wall and came in for lunch. Then got them out for like 50 minutes of fresh air and pasture time. Tim came and he got the front of the house shrubs all trimmed up, it looks nice. His wife Kendra who takes care of Bully when I'm away was here with the two girls too. After we all went to the barn to see the horse's and Bully. The girls love Bullseye. Indy was a dream, he loves kids and Paige was fine with Tim, after her aversion with men lately! Thank you Marissa's boyfriend being aggressive at times when cleaning stalls! Today it's raining and looks like it will all day long with some winds picking up. So lunging day and showmanship for Paige, lunge for Indy and free play for Bullseye. Well off to vacuum and clean the house first and press and crease my show pants! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Aw, you do have to let her have some alfalfa pellets if she really loves them. Do you have to soak them for her?
Hmmm, barn swallows on the porch? A bit confused over their real estate, aren't they?
Not much here. A few light showers straggling through yesterday after that front, so no horse time.
Hope your Wed is a good one.

Hi & a vote,
Well, our stretch of super weather these past 4-5 days is about to run out tomorrow with rain/wind. But at least it's not frozen!
Last night I was able to enjoy a walk with Blue by the river. Felt great to be out of hibernation!

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. WOW we hit 70 degrees yesterday with strong sunshine and a very slight breeze! It was delightful. Went over to another farm that sells bales fine shavings and picked up 25 bales. Some will go to Indy at home and some to the shows. I paid $5 a bag for 3.25 compressed and at the shows, they run about $7.50 a bag, cheaper to lug them with me. Got home and unloaded them, about 45 lbs each at least! Good weight! Kids got the day out, Paige had the day off, she deserved it! Tim came over and he got the vines out of the front bushes. This afternoon he's coming back and trim them all with the hedge clippers for me and pack the clippings in bags for garbage day. Looks like another warm one today, but only about 64, I'll take it. It's a ride day for sure on Paige. Rains moving in tonight and all day tomorrow with high winds. So who knows what kinda day that'll be! I really have to see if the old lawn tractor will start and has a few more mows in it before breaking down and getting the new to me used one from Dave! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi & a vote,
Hope Sunset's knee gets all better soon.
Here, it was finally a beautiful weekend in the 60's. I was able to enjoy a nice, relaxing ride on Rocky Sunday afternoon. My friend rode both her horses, first the buckskin and then the black mare. Blue & Hailey were running around, but tired themselves out by the end and were just laying and watching. It was so great to see the SUN and get to RIDE after this never-ending winter.
My knees and lower-back were feeling it later last night, though! But better today.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. What a day yesterday! Wish the weather could hold like this for the rest of the year! Yes year, right till New Years! High was about 63 with strong sunshine, felt great! Had another great ride on Paige, worked on flexing and staying on the arc in circles with just the corner of that eye showing to me and then flexing her neck and face to the outside in the same direction. Walking and later jogging, she was so supple! Everyone got turned out then, up to 40 minutes, will increase again today. Anthony and I got the trailer all done, 2 hours! But she's ready! Have to check the fridge, I forgot to see if it got cold inside! Silly me. Today is about the same weather wise, so it's another ride on Paige for sure! Then turnout time for them! Walk for Honey too of course. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. WOW what a day yesterday! Temps hit close to 60 with just a mild breeze! Got my ride in on Paige, she's a dream to ride! Love that mare! Then they went out on pasture for 30 minutes. I did give them only 1 flake of hay when they came in, cause 30 minutes of nothing really growing in the pastures was more for outside time in fresh air! Will do the same today and the next couple of days. Rain moves in on Wed and cooler temps again! My friend Anthony is coming up today to help with un-winterizing the L/Q trailer. So that'll be ready to go. And I have to turn the refrigerator on and make sure that's going to be okay. It's the new one and I don't want any surprises when I start to stock it up. We're due to get your rain this afternoon/evening. I'm sure it did a great job of cooling Sunset's knee, glad she's playing and not seeming to hurt at all.
Our day was really pretty yesterday. I got my errands done and then rode Allie out in the pasture. We did more of the trot to walk and lope to walk transitions involving circles. She doesn't like to walk for long. She did pretty good, especially considering a neighbor was shooting a muzzle loader type rifle, and those things are really loud, made us both jump.
Well, hope you hae a great suday.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the winds yesterday would have blown you out of the saddle, even in the indoor! OMG they got horrible! And of course never did get past 45 degrees with a chill factor of 37! So today so far it's sunny and no wind to speak of. So if the weathermen are right and it goes up to 58 today, it'll be nice. Plans are today for sure a ride, yesterday was just lunge in that insane wind! Might even be able to get them out then to pasture for their 30 minutes. I know they will love it! So will my hay bill! That was a long expensive day, having both the farrier and the vet out. So glad Sunset is behaving with the hosing off and her knee is looking better. It makes total sense that someone ran her through the fence. Is everybody looking good after their shots?
Nuisance HBs, huh? I think the level is going down slowly in my feeder, but haven't actually seen any birds at it yet.
Not much here. I have a lot of running around to do today, hoping to squeeze some horse time in somewhere. BJ, Gracie, and Cinni are spending a lot of time on the dry lot with a little hay morning and night on the days I work, a little pasture time on the days I'm off. They haven't lost much weight, but Cinni is moving nicely (she founders easily and is often a little sore). Been reading up on horse nutrition and it's scary how easy it is to sugar overload a horse, even with just hay. Oi!
Well, hope you have a great weekend.

I not sure who I feel worse for you and the fact you have to take care of their injuries or Cisco to have that many girls around in heat. At least its a sign of spring. Sorry about the car. I know that feeling. I'm glad they had a loaner for you. Still just one more thing to deal with. We are up to knees in mud. Horses have been in more than out. On top of the mud we have high winds and its cold. Jax still has a blanket on. Usually they are off by now. We will see if we get in the 50's this weekend. The woman I hired to give Jax a message on Sunday will be happy if its warm. The chiropractor who I usually have got injured doing work on a horse. She is suffering from a brain injury. Not sure if she can come back. Then he gets his shots on Wednesday. Supposedly one of the barns close to us has a case of strangles. I do that every year. No guarantee but at least I'm trying to protect him. Vicki & Big Jax

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well would you believe that at 1 pm yesterday as I walked out of the house to go work the horses, it's sleeting and snowing combo out there! So decided to just make it a spa day in the warm barn! Today so far it's 34 degrees, but the sun is trying to come out. And they are saying 50 degrees maybe. Yeah right! You haven't been right on temps in a long time weathermen! Have to make a trip to Tractor Supply for a bunch of stuff. Honey will be very happy to go along. Hopefully by 1 pm today it'll be warmer and I can work with the kids! Getting a little warmer each day, so maybe the riding will be Sat and Sun for sure then. Last evening, Blue was so happy to be running around playing with Hailey that he didn't want to get back in the car! Hailey wanted to get in my car cause her Mom wasn't home yet. Maybe she thought it was "vacation" time when she comes with me.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well this weather is making me nuts and my animals! Yesterday snow flurries and hard at times all day long! I personally was still on stall rest after my knee injection so I didn't mind laying around the house! Today, wake up, look outside and my truck and all the roofs are covered in snow! Yep, 1/4 or more of snow! STOP! Overcast and 35 degrees right now, but supposed to go up to about 55 with some sun, we'll see about that. Game plan today is lunge and maybe ride Paige, see how that knee really feels, don't want to push it. Lunge Indy, he got his Rhino/Flu this morning along with a gram of bute. That one usually gives him a stiff neck, so he'll get bute tonight again. Honey is really wanting a walk, so hopefully a short one, once again, pamper that knee yet today. If I remember right, Lilly looks like a perfectly proportioned QH, only smaller, big butt and all. She's really pretty. And don't you love their deep rich color when they first shed out?
I keep wondering if Cinni is Cushings, she has 6-8 inch hair too, but she always sheds it out in the summer. The vet has never brought it up,though the farrier did ask.
It was much less windy yesterday though still with strong gusts, which of course, kicked up as soon as I put my foot in the stirrup. So I only rode for a few minutes and didn't really accomplish anything except to stay in one piece.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. I too couldn't get on yesterday, kept timing out! Thought oh no, could this be it! Sure glad it isn't! Had the ortho yesterday late morning for the Synvisc One shot in my left knee, the better of the two! LOL! Had to ice and rest all day long then, and today take it easy too! Tomorrow I can go back to working normal horsey days and hopefully warm enough to ride Paige. Today will be just a light lunging and that's it! Poor Honey might only get a walk along the front of the farm too! Tomorrow Indy will get another shot, he's doing well, no real stiff neck, just a little and no more hives. Paige could have had one more day of bute, made a notation in the computer for next year. Still sore a little and not flexing the neck the way she would for her cookie exercises! They are a fun size, for sure. Glad you got to do some groundwork with Lilly the other day.
Dee's leg looked really good sunday, almost down to normal, but it was more swollen again yesterday. With the wind and the cool, they did a lot of running and bucking and kicking each other, so maybe that's why. I'll do the hosing and bute again today.
Well, like I said, not much horse news. Sat was 80, Sunday 50 with lots of rain, monday 50 with high winds, 34 this am, supposed to be 80 again tomorrow. I was out to Rocky on Friday evening to feed everyone and I put tick topical on Rocky since ticks love his pink skin!
It is pouring rain here today and the weather all week looks not great. They have a little sun and maybe 60 in the long-range weekend forecast, but they keep teasing us this year.
Too bad you didn't get to go to the clinic, but the bad weather, better to stay safe!! My daughter did go to her obstacle challenge on Saturday and had a lot of fun. She said Cowboy had to jump up and down one obstacle, which she said he jumped down better than jumping up, but he did it.

I think your winds reached us this weekend. Salmon sounds good. I haven't had that in a while. I'm putting it on my grocery list. Jax gets his shot on the 25th. I have to make sure they do the strangles intranasal. Last year they did the shot. Told her up the nose is better. I heard they had a case of strangles down the road. But it has not been confirmed. Or they are keeping it quiet. They have a lot of horses in and out. They buy from out west. So I don't think I will go to their auction this year because of that. No sense in taking chances. We got the freezing rain last night. It is on and off right now. So I won't be going out to see Jax. I feel bad but not sure how the roads are. The road I have to use people drive at 55 no matter what. Not worth the chance. Did anyone else go to zero days on HC? I did. Vicki & Big Jax

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Busy day yesterday, did all my errands and knew I was running late, so stopped for a couple of slices of pizza! Honey let's you eat in piece and quiet, even in the close quarters of the truck. Got the 25 bales of pelleted bedding and then came home and unloaded it. It got warm and sunny, 72 degrees. Finished that and the kids went out right away! OMG Paige even ran about 30 seconds if that to the other end of the pasture and stopped and looked like, did I just do that! LOL! I worked outside while the weather was nice. Didn't have the energy to wash manes and tails, they aren't that bad really. Rested a while and then took Honey on a mile walk. Today it's colder only 35 degrees and nasty out. Rain moving in. I'll lunge and hopefully a ride on Paige. Indy got his second shot this morning, combo of E/W, Tet & W.Niles. Oh, hate that the weather played nasty and kept you from the clinic. Always the wind out there, huh? I've noticed that with his FB videos, seems there's always alot of wind noise and the horses'tails are blowing out sideways.
I spent a lot of the afternoon planting tomatoes and getting them staked and caged to protect them from nibbling by bunnies. I also used old shingles around them to hopefully cut down on weeds and then covered that with straw. Finally got to ride Allie in the evening. I'm really liking that trot or lope circling down to a walk exercise; it seems to be helping her to listen to my seat better (though there's still a lot of room for improvement there) and get softer in her nose. She's doing full circles or more with her slow spins. I want her to learn the right frame and cadence for the spin a little longer, then I'll see if we can add a little speed. She seems to kind of like spinning, so we'll see what she can do.
Well, looks like a rainy Sunday here. Hope you have a good one.

Come visit me, BJ and his mom Gracie & Allie.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Do you believe, I saw on the news last night, snow in the forecast again! even the Channel 2 weather man said, well here we went from Winter, to Spring to Summer, and now it's gonna be fall tomorrow and Winter again Monday! I must have slept a long time to miss all those days in the seasons! LOL! Well Paige is looking good, no swelling or lumps of fluid like last year. Larry thinks that he pulled out the needle before all the vaccine was in the muscle and got it between the skin, like a SQ shot. And that will cause the swelling and abscesses! Indy is doing well, Cubes for am and pm, real hay for lunch. Yesterday was a double treat, pasture for 30 minutes, although the grass isn't really green and growing, then his flake of hay. They loved being out. After running a ton of errands this morning, I'll wash manes and tails for sure. Then turn them out for some pasture time, last for the week! Cold returning tonight and maybe that S word come Monday! Go flippin' figure! On a good note, Beast got washed and a spray coat of Turtle Wax Shine! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hope you're able to be at the clinic this weekend. On radar, it looks like only eastern TX is wet this am, so I hope you stay dry and have fun. Hope Lilly enjoys it too.
I did ride Allie yesterday. Wasn't sure how the ride would go, she was jumping at every little leaf that rustled or bird that flew. Howevwr, I kept her mind busy with this or that, not much time to amble around the ring looking for things to be scared of, lol. I did some loping and circle to a walk to get her to start listening to my seat some. She did well with that. I've found she's inconsistent, what she has one day she might lose the next. Eventually, with enough repitiion, she gets stuff, but it takes a long time to get it every time. BJ and Gracie are solid learners, they seldom lose anything but build on it steadily. Oh well, every horse is different. I also trimmed Allie's and Dee's hinds, though they had hardly grown out at all, just needed a little rounding of the wall.

Come visit me, BJ and his mom Gracie & Allie.

Hi & a vote,
Cowboy doing great, all recovered, but my daughter is going to use Ulcer Guard as preventative when she travels with him just in case. She is supposed to go to an obstacle challenge Saturday (tomorrow).

Tomorrow Blue is supposed to start agility again, but I am just waiting for the text to confirm the class is ON. Then, we will stop in to see Rock too. Up here our temps are going to stay colder over the weekend, the 60's they forecast have been taken back!! Now 40's! Ouch!

Come visit me, Cowboy, Rocky (the blue-eyed wonder horse) & Comet (has new home).

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well Paige was kinda really miserable all day yesterday, but she did lower her head and neck to eat her Alfalfa hay at lunch time. I gave her a taste from the flake and then dropped it to the floor, it took her a while to get down to it, but she did it. Gave her 2 bute last night and much better this morning. One bute this morning and it'll be one bute tonight and see how she is from there. No neck swellings like last year so far. Indy had a little bit of the hives yesterday, but seems okay this morning. He'll get another shot on Sunday morn and go from there. Today for sure they are going out on pasture time, even through the grass isn't green yet, Larry said 30 minutes won't hurt them and it'll make them stretch those necks out. I'd like to wash the Beast off today, very muddy from going to that farm to pick up the Timothy last Sunday. So looks like while the kids are out, Beast will get a bath! LOL Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Amazing that you did get the grill lit last night. Bet the salmon was really good grilled on it.
We had a beautiful day yesterday but I had too many chores to get horse time, other than trimming Dee's fronts. Allie kicked her last Sunday and her hind is swollen but hasn't gone down at all. So I hosed it off and got to probing the wound, and it is pretty small on the surface, so not sure why all the swelling still. She's not lame. I'll probably hose it again for a while today and maybe give her some Bute.
Well, hope you have a good friday. Are they still predicting all that rain for the weekend?

Come visit me, BJ and his mom Gracie & Allie.

Hi & a vote,
We are supposed to be in 50's but some rain later. Then 60's for tomorrow and Saturday! I hope it's true.
Blue spotted some deer last night in the neighbor's yard. He barked at them from the fence and then they ran off with their white tail sticking up.
When we went to the barn and feed horses, Blue didn't get to see Hailey! Boo!
I noticed a new HOTD changed today, which hasn't been happening. Never know what to expect from HC lately.

Come visit me, Cowboy, Rocky (the blue-eyed wonder horse) & Comet (has new home).

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well looks like HC went back to March when it committed suicide on us! Hopefully this means it's going to stay up and running. WOW vet walks in when I'm just finishing feeding this morning. Here for coggins and spring shots. WOW did Paige go crazy, had to lip chain her! She remembers what happened last year at Marissa's I guess with all her shots and her neck blowing up and wanting no part of it this year! Yet she's fine with me when I give her the monthly Pent-O-San for her joints! So Indy got nasal Strangles and Rabies for now, then in two days another shot and then 2 days after that the last one. Hopefully it's going up to about 60 degrees today and no rain, so they are going out to the pastures! It's not green grass yet, but Larry said that the brown stuff won't hurt them and it'll make them stretch their necks out. Hitting the 70's for Fri and Sat and then dropping again on Sun to the 40's. Stupid weather for sure! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.
