How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanship and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya . What a busy day today! Got Indy free lunged and played with him. Then free lunged Bullseye, I really have to take a video of him lungeing, he stays right around me in a circle, like in an invisible round pen! LOL! Then went over to Marissa's. Got Paige groomed and saddled up and went and lunged her. Marissa came back from another horse and bridled Paige up. I couldn't believe how awesome Paige was today! Like she never left her training mode! Marissa even did the baby cross rail jump with her, just to give Paige something else new to do. Did lot's of little things with her and really mixed up all the work. Got off and told her whoa, walked over about 6 feet from me and said, Paige come, mare does a 90 degree turn and starts to slowly walk over, you can see she's thinking, who too? Marissa says you better come to the right person! And she went right to Marissa! Got lots of pats on the neck. After cooling down on the wall, she got a scoop of her Alfa-Lox and a flake of her 50/50 alfalfa hay. She was a really good girl. Tomorrow I'll be leaving the farm my 1 pm for our Awards Banquet Dinner, I can't wait. Be home just in time to feed by 7 pm. Like the idea of the afternoon Banquet better. Oh no! hate to hear that Cisco half cut his foot off. Glad he didn't cut the deep flexor or any thing like that, but goodness, what an injury. So he'll be laid up for months? I'm so sorry. Sure hope he heals well and quickly. Gosh, between him and Bo, do you have the vet on speed dial now?
Thats exciting about getting your stalls all fixed up. So glad they can get the gravel spread for you, that would be a big help.
Well, we have sunny chilly weather for the weekend. There's the SC horse expo practically in my backyard today and I volunteered to help man the Marsh Tacky booth. Then just found out my sister and brother in law are coming up to visit my niece, so not sure how it'll all fit into one day. But it should be fun.
Well, prayers for Cisco and hope the barn gets done quick.

Buddy Guy here I come...
Oh NO, this is horrible, I guess all you can say is, It could have been worse... I wonder how he did that, I know with Charlie, it is just routine to take a quick look over him every night, he is the original accident waiting to happen. How will Cisco handle stall rest? Can someone stay with him so he is not locked up alone? Prayers that the hoof heals and he is sound again. One of the first things I learned when I got a horse of my own was, NO HOOF, NO HORSE. It's why I pay such close attention to their feet, I know you do too.

So after weeks of scouring the Buddy Guy website and checking the Canadian appearances, remember I was hoping he would add London. He didn't, but one day about a week ago I saw a small blurb that said Buddy Guy in Kitchener Ontario, I thought it must have been a previous show, but I checked it out and sure enough he is only playing two Canadian stops on this tour, Toronto and Kitchener. Kitchener is pretty close to us, but when I went to the Box Office there were only "nose bleed" seats left. I was so upset that this show was not on the Official buddy Guy website and all the great seats were sold already. Remember no one has worse luck than me...Then I saw an ad for two front row seats for re sale. David warned me that ticket fraud is a big deal, so be very careful. Long story short, turns out the man that purchased these tickets is also a huge fan, however, he has a vacation conflict for the day of the show, he wasn't sure they would be back in time so he decided to sell the tickets. He wanted the same as he paid, not looking to make a profit. I contacted the Box Office to verify that these were in fact legitimate seats and after they confirmed it, I said SOLD. April 20, Centre in the Square Kitchener Ontario. early retirement present for me. I posted a pic of the theatre, and the two yellow dots are our seats. I'm so excited. Have a great weekend. Love Donna Lee

Oh, that's awful! I'm so sorry, I hope Cisco heals up quickly! Will that part of his hoof and heel bulb grow back? That's terrible. I hope he does alright with the stall rest. Maybe he stepped on his own heel?

Cimarron's pal Nevada had a similar accident a couple years ago - somehow he almost entirely sliced his right front heel bulbs off. Ended up cauterizing the wound to stop the bleeding, but he made a full recovery, so I have a lot of hope for Cisco.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Glad that your mom calls me and keeps informed on you! Healing Prayers good buddy! Well we got very very lucky in the snow department this morning. NOTHING! A few flurries and not even sticking to the ground. Of course just 15 miles away, they got like 4 inches! And the further south even more! Yep you folks can have it for a change! Got a text from Marissa to come over an hour earlier today. No problem. But of course Paige had other ideas! But it was cold and very windy, her indoor makes more noise than mine ever could. So poor Paige was a little up. But Marissa still got some things accomplished. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Indy got play time when I got home. He loves his free run time. i wanted to tell you another thing that I love for stalled horses is those slow feed hay nets. you prob need to cut back his ration to hay only if he's not moving around much. I'm sure the vet has advised you what to do. Princeton had one of the horse balls and I'd place a mrs pastures cookie in the handle of it to get him interested. there's lots of articles about things to do with your horse and homemade toys you can make. it depends on the horses personality and if they like sounds or textures, etc. some play with milk bottles or cones. godiva and buttercup have no interest in toys unless it's the grazin toy with treats in it. i put 6 or 8 tennis balls in it too so it keeps the treats from all falling out at once. smooch loves the ball hanging from the ceiling of his stall. I'm sure you'll find what works for your boy. rotate them so he doesn't get too used to the same one for weeks at a time. i have a cowbell hanging in Princeton's stall too. he was on stall rest for his bowed tendon.

Sort of happy that my horses aren't the only ones who do stupid stuff though. Eli's face is healing up nicely from Cinnamon's kicking him. Sorry for not getting back to you. Yes, cinnamon knows how to do 1-rein stop, but that's what I tried and she decided to stumble and half rear. Thinking se could use some work on the 1-rein stop. That and yielding hindquarters. Stone was supposed to be delivered yesterday for the round pen, but wasn't. I'm getting impatient lol.

it was a pretty day yesterday, warm and sunny, so i did a slow ride on Allie, mud puddles and all. she IS a Marsh Tacky, afer all, lol. she's coming along slowly and i really enjoy her.
i thought i had a long weekend to look forward to, but my boss called yesterday afternoon, and "they" arent going to let nurses log in to chart on the new system, which starts tomorrow, until they take all the classes. so i have to spend allllll day, on a pretty friday, in town taking this stupid make-up computer class. and i wasted 3 hours in town monday that i didnt have to waste, without pay, going over this system, trying to be conscientious about learning what i could since i had missed the one class due to snow. grrrr. ill be a grouch all day, i can tell, but i'll survive.
well, hope you have a great friday. take care.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well it was a soggy walk to the barn for sure. But the temps did go up to the high 40's and a little wind, so things kinda dried up a little. But are you ready, we could get 2 to 4 inches of snow tonight! WTH! This wasn't even talked about this morning, now it's the talk of the news! Anyhow, Indy got a spa day. Went to Marissa's to get Paige ready for her, and here comes Marissa and Paige all tacked up out of her stall! So Paige got her lesson a little early and she was really good. Got lots of pats on the neck, just still a little stiff on the left neck side. But softening up better. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

talked to my son last night and he hadnt heard from the dealership yet, he says he's not sure who's going to pick up the tab on the repairs, but he's prepared to do it. it's an old, reputable dealership, so i hope they do the honorable thing. i'll stay out of it unless they dont.

HI Cisco, here's a vote for ya. WOW did the rains hit us hard today! Almost 2 inches! Glad it was rain, that would have been 2 feet of snow! Temp was 51 degrees up here on the mountain and 54 over by Marissa's. Indy got lunged, we got soaked just walking to and from the barn to the indoor! Then I ate lunch and headed over to my lesson on Paige. I got a good workout, probably feel it more than Paige will tonight! LOL! After riding, we did a little showmanship again. Not sure what the plan is for tomorrow, I think maybe it'll be the trainer's turn to work her out and let me heal! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

So sorry you weren't able to ride yesterday. Don't know what people are hunting now, but we've had an increase in shooting around here too. Yeah, if he was bucking just being lead, it's wise you didn't get on. I think a pretty deep red chestnut or a rich red-bay is tough to beat out in the sunshine too.
The vet felt like BJ is truly making progress, and as he said, it's been less than 2 months since the Marquis was finished (seems longer), so he said just keep doing his "physical therapy ". He did sedate him and file his teeth, said he had some points and hooks. He looked so funny doped up afterward that I had to take a pic. I'll post it soon.
Had the scare of my life yesterday evening. I was following my son to take his new used Jeep to the shop (it had suddenly started making weird noises) and we had gotten into town, when he suddenly lost his brakes, had to coast into the median, and when he got almost stopped, the front drivers side wheel just fell off and rolled into oncoming traffic. Fortunately, no one hit it (it was dark by this time). Clay was furious, but I started shaking, realizing what could have happened just 3 miles back when he was going 55 mph instead of 25. God had His hand on that Jeep, for sure. Hope the dealership fixes it for him, he's had it less than a month.
Well, off to work. We're due rain and some storms here today. Hope you have a good hump day and take care.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. What a gorgeous day out today. Sunny and mid 40's! Wed rain all day, but the mid 50's before returning to more colder temps. Well today was Paige's first day of Marissa riding her since our last show. She's impressed with some things I've been working with and it's a big improvement, but I did let her get a little flat on her top line. So Wed I get a lesson in lifting and elevating that neck to round out the back. Of course this will be the opposite of my hands down and not above the horn. I'll be picking up on her to lift her. But Marissa said that what I worked on came along good. My steering off my leg and keeping my hand down and quiet! Always learning, it you're not, then you're not riding right! Indy gets a work out Wed also, before I go over there. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Sorry haven't been able to log on. Not having a good weekend/week. Yesterday got some much needed horsey time in. Had Cinnamon out for a while. Left her trim the foot long grass in the round pen area, rode a little (I finally was able to trot without holding onto the saddle horn, so I feel like I accomplished a bit), cantered a little, left her eat some more grass, then rode a bit more. cinnamon has definitely improved. Only twice she tried to rip the reins out of my hands for grass. She's at the right weight now, but I need to talk to the vet about her worm problem. I asked the farrier yesterday if she has registration papers at all and he is going to check. hopefully i can get those. Eli was stayign in shape yesterday too. He ran laps around the pasture. lol. Once, I took Cinnamon across two bridges, she was fine and then she realized she couldn't see Eli. She freaked out adn tried to run back to the barn. she hhalf reared at the first bridge whe I tried to slow her down, but once he was back in sight she calmed downand I was able to ride her at a walk back to the barn. Waiting on stone to be delivered for the round pen. It is taking forever. Hopefuly it gets here soon. Thanks for HOTM everyone! I felt kinda bad that Caly didn't win, but hopefully she will run again sometime!

Oooh, the applesauce in a dewormer tube sounds like a really good idea. I think I'll try that next time, and maybe I'll experiment with that this weekend to see how Cimarron feels about it. It just makes me feel terrible when he gets so upset about deworming.

That's great that you were able to ride both Cisco and Jazz, especially since it was the first time with Jazz! Does that make Cisco jealous? Cimarron is kind of goofy; he doesn't really like to be ridden, but at the same time, it upsets him if I ride another horse.

Anyways, nothing too exciting happened today. We'll see about tomorrow. I hope your week is off to a good start!

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well the temps was warm again, only 47 this time and overcast all day. But it sure beats 30 degrees and windy! LOL! Morning was devoted to housework, hate that job! Had the Slow cooker going with Chicken Dumplings in it. First time making that one and first time ever eating that! It was really good! Then I took some hay to the barn. Indy got to free play while I picked up all the poles and stacked them off the riding area. Now I can get the big tractor in on Tuesday and really drag the entire place good and make it nice and fluffy! Love fluff! LOL! Trimmed Bullseye's hind feet today. That's done for 4 weeks now. If I keep up with the rasp then, he don't need the clippers to them. Then it was up to the house and eat that fantastic meal I made myself. Got enough for like 5 meals out of it. Sat. & Sun were just beautiful. It was sunny and Sat. was 78 and Sun. was 81. I got all my to-do list complete Saturday and Sunday I hauled out to the lake to meet Bill & his wife Angie. This did not go well, we got about 1 mile out and her horse bucked her off. It's her daughter's horse but has rode him before and he was fine. I believe some people just shouldn't ride. She try's to ride because of Bill's love of horse's and riding. That doesn't work though in a lot of cases. Needless to say Deacon and I stayed with Angie while Bill ponied her horse back to the trailer and unhooked his trailer and came out to pick her up. I rode back by myself but I enjoyed it, haven't rode alone in a long time. After getting home really early, I messed around with the horses at home some and then just relaxed and watched them graze. Have a wonderful week every one!

so glad youve had good weather and got to work both Cisco and Jazz with the saddle yesterday. i like to saddle from the right side too, keeps the girth out of the way. i bet she wont let you mount up from the off side either. sure hope you get to ride today and they are good for you.
we had a warm though overcast day yesterday and i had a blast with the horses. i lay out some poles and big pipes to lunge BJ over and around, so we kept mixing up the patterns. it kept him and me both on our toes, but it was fun. had a good ride on little miss Allie too. she's just starting to get lighter with turning, tipping her nose in about 5 degrees. that's not much, but it's so much better than rooting it out 20 degrees in the opposite direction like she used to do. the ground was finally dry enough to lope a little bit too, just enough to remind her that we can. i still have a stupid grin on my face after that ride, lol.
well, off to the big city for another appointment (having to catch up on stuff after not having a physical in forever) and then a short unit-specific computer class. we go live with the new software on the 6th. rain is supposed to move back in today or tomorrow, and im hoping to get a ride in this afternoon, but it depends on how much help my daughter needs on her school work today.
well, hope you have a great monday and have fun with the horses.

Got home and turned out Indy and Bullseye in their pastures for like an hour. I cleaned up the back yard where the wood pile was. I finally finished burning off all that wood and now just had to rake and pick up the little mess it left. All done, nice and neat again. Then just hung out outside for a while enjoying this spring like day! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

A vote and best wishes!
Wow, sounds like you've been having nice weather. It's still chilly and wet around here. I hope you've been having some fun with Cisco and the gang!

I've been hanging out with Cimarron, but he's not very happy with me right now because I gave him some dewormer. He started losing some weight and he's had loose manure off and on for the last couple weeks, but he's got a bit of a belly on him, so I decided to give him his spring dose of Moxidectin early. I'm giving him some extra senior feed too. However, Cimarron hates taking dewormer. He was very uncooperative about it, and he was so upset that he wouldn't take the carrots I offered him afterwards. So, now I feel bad; Cimarron is really good at making me feel guilty.

wow, stuff is blooming? spring is close enough that any little excuse will set it off i guess. really, ours is usually underway in another month, which is really close. didnt have much of a winter this year.
yeah, we have some clip on communicators, but theyre kinda slow and you have to know the person's last name to call them. i think we're going to have to learn how to use stuff like that. it's funny how many people have come to "sight see" in the new unit, from housekeepers to the architect who designed it. the families who made the trip from the old unit to the new one like the old waiting room better but like the new patient rooms better.
well, i hear we too have had beautiful weather the last couple of days. i hope to find out for myself today. hope your weekend is going well.

As for the arm, the original accident was NOT work related, that is one reason I got to stay home to recover following surgery. They don't want to back until you can perform all your duties. Because I aggravated this arm at work, they can now say that I had a preexisting condition, therefore NOT work related. I could file an appeal, but since I have not asked for any restrictions, I am still doing my job. I went for physio on my own, because I want to do what is best for ME. If I had years to go, I would fight this, but as long as I can manage I'll let it go. It is just such a let down, when you think you have been a good and valuable employee, but now it all comes down to $$$. Yesterday morning after their breakfast I put them out, it seemed to be going OK, but then the wind came up, it was stupid, both of them tearing around. There is still quite a bit of ice under the snow, so to be safe back inside, after lunch the wind died down, the sun came out and it was quite mild, so out we went. Looks like today will be the same thing, rain moving in around lunch. Enjoy your day, one more closer to spring...Love Donna Lee

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well all went great today. My friend Eileen got here about 20 minutes early to help with loading the queen! LOL! Of course I was still in the house doing my make-up and contacts and hair. So I'll be out in 10 boss! LOL! Wrapped Paige's legs and brought her up to the trailer, stud chain over nose. Three tries and she was being her stubbon self, so stud chain on the lip, one try and walked right in and stood there! Just needs that little extra torture when she's alone going in! Silly mare! Of course she travels great thank goodness. Got to Marissa's, only 15 miles away. Roads all clear and good. We made her stay in the trailer about 20 minutes or more, but she had her hay and didn't care. Unloaded her and Marissa walked her around outside the farm, nice sunny day and about 30 degrees then. She's down the other end of the show barn, it's warmer there and more quiet than right by the door where she was last year. She settled right in and went to drinking and finishing her hay bag from the trailer. Spent 3 hours there hanging out and talking with all my show friends. She was as quiet as a church mouse. Got home and Indy didn't even talk when I walked in the barn, he's like okay mom's all mine here at home! YAY! He's so jealous of her at home, now it's all about me he says! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

finally a break from the snow...
I'm not counting on him making a London appearance, at least I tried, maybe next year...It has been a tough week, I'm back in physio for my shoulder, work related however work will not acknowledge that because I had surgery so it is considered a pre existing injury, never thought after 15 years of loyal service I'd be treated this way, I'm not asking for restrictions, just admit that it is due to repetitive work...I'll make it thru the last 7 months, if it kills me. I guess it is all about the bottom line to a company the size of Maple Leaf Foods.
The horses are doing well, it has been a crazy winter for them, so much ice, they deal well with being left in for safety, harder on me than them, we left a vote, have a great weekend, Love Donna Lee

Scooting by in between work. Yesterday was my first day working in our new unit. Love the rooms, they are so much bigger, and we have these movable booms, 2 per room, that come out of the ceiling and have all your oxygen, suction, and power, so can just about put the bed anywhere you want to. However, the layout of the entire unit makes us very isolated, it took several hours to even know who all was working, and one nurse can be having an emergency, and the rest of us don't know it. We've always relied heavily on teamwork to get through our day, and it's really hard to do now. I hope we can figure out ways to optimize it as time goes along.
Well, better get headed out the door. Take care and enjoy those nice days.

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Well we had some flurries on and off today and high winds and cloudy skies. Not nice at all! Got the trailer packed with all Paige's goodies. Just have to put her bag of Alfa-Lox and her hay net in tomorrow. Trucks hooked up and ready to roll. My friend Eileen will be here about 10 am to help with loading missy I don't want to leave Indy! Did get the lunged today inside. Very windy and doors banging around. Gave both of them a shave, didn't want Indy to feel left out! LOL! He's gonna miss her and nicker the first day or so when he realizes I came home to him without her! It'll be really spoil Indy time! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.
