How We Met

Bought him out of pity, even though skin and bones, there was just something about him, I couldn't resist when I stopped in to see him and he came over and put his head on my shoulder. Finally found Steven's Natural Horsemanshp and everything finally started coming together for us. He is a Holstiener/Sadd- lebred/Morgan/? crossbred and is a lot of horse for an old lady to ride. Hope Cisco is healing up and it did not get infected, and I hope you find the source, been trying to get a hold of my sister, I will let you know what I hear, Lilly got a trim yesterday, you can hardly see where she took out that big junk very thankful she never had any effects from missing it, been cleaning out the house, getting rid of surplus stuff that just makes the house feel cluttered and heavy, great feeling, might even go by new bath towels, ours are like 20 + years old. have a great Thursday, love Suz and Lilly

Everet Shaw, who rode his share of great steer roping horses, told Hyde
that Blue was the best horse at Cheyenne that year. Hyde and Del both felt
that Blue started out of the box quicker and could catch cattle easier than
any horse they had ridden. The combination of Blue's athletic ability and
Del's training made him hard to beat. ~Thanks for voting~ **Copper**

Thanks, everyone. Vet was out, said it was a superficial laceration and looked good, just a little puffy around it and a bit sore when touched. Will keep it wrapped 2 more days after cleaning and applying Vetricin, then apply AluShield and should be all healed up in a week.

Hate Cisco injured himself, but glad it doesn't sound serious. Let us know what the vet says. I haven't been able to do much with BJ lately either. He's been just slightly off for the last 3 weeks or so, so he's getting a break. I'm wondering if after he gets over one of the numerous colds he's had over the past year if I work him too hard when he's out of shape. Will have to go easier on him and see if that helps. Its always your best horse that's out if commission, isn't it?
Well, dog is happy and back to himself. Hope you have a good Thur.

Went to get Cisco up to ride this AM (finally has dried out)and found he had cut the back of his RF pastern, midway between the heel and fetlock. Cleaned it up, salved and bandaged it, then called the vet. It looks red and inflamed to me, want to make sure it's OK and antibiotics aren't needed. Luckily, it's not deep and he's not lame, but no riding till it heals. She'll be out in the morning. From the look of it, to late for sutures.

Several times, I kid you not , I have just finished picking up the poo in the barnyard and Lilly walks over to the last spot I have cleaned I swear she is smiling and drops a load, I just say REALLY, your so funny and walk over and scoop it up. had a blast last night with Lilly took her through the arena circus last night, by hand, then played with her for awhile then, rode her around in the arena withnothiing on her, no halter or bridle or bareback pad, or saddle it was awesome, she listened to where I wanted to go for the most part , she even went over the tarp and stepped over the styrofoam aluminum reflectors, cantered around a bit and had her back up, it was really cool, of course I did wear my helmet, that is a must !! love Suz and Lilly

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Finished up all the little details today around the farm. The went over and got Paige ready for her lesson, I didn't ride, my left hip is out! Oh yeah, lucky me! Did to much lifting hay yesterday! Without my back brace on! Stupid Me! Laurel and I gave her a bath, since it went up to 86 degrees today, she worked up a lather! Laurel even rode her today. Got home and turned the boys out while I hooked up the trailer and loaded my bedding, yes with my back brace on! Shaved Indy, just in case I show him in halter again. So it looks like we're ready to leave around 9 am and go and pick up Paige and her work gear and caravan it to the Fair Grounds. Catch y'all on FB and on HC on Monday night. I know right , on the texting, leave her be let her rest, Do you guys have a poop spreader or do you throw it by hand ? I keep the barnyard picked up and wheel barrow it to a big tilled up area that I keep spreading it on, gonna plant sunflowers around the edge of it next year to hopefully make it look more attractive, maybe you'll get some riding in if it drys out a bit I only take Lilly in specific area's after rains becasue the soil has alot of clay in it and gets really slippery. love Suz and Lilly

we got a really good rain last evening! Cliff & I are going to wait until after the 1st of the year before purchasing a calf. I sure hope you find what your looking for. Check the boards at the feed stores and Tractor Supply and vet offices. Maybe you can run across a gentle couple of cows that way:) ♡ we really had a nice evening. Turned out the boys to graze and then haltered Rocket and ground worked him. I told Cliff he could do that with him but…he just doesn’t have it in him darn it. It started to rain right after I finished and it felt soooo good. We missed the rain from over the weekend so I thought we wouldn’t get any…I was wrong - Thank you for your votes here is a click on your horseshoe. Have a wonderful day ;)

Hi Cisco, here's a vote for ya. Very productive day on the farm today. Lot's of getting ready for our last show of the season. Well last for us, plenty more going on around us, but this is my usual end of the season one. Then weed whacked the entire place, and mowed the lawn and rail on the outdoor arena, down by the manure pit and back up to the house. Went downtown for my gas for the lawn tractor and picked up feed for the horses and for the dog. Boys out and then me and Harley out on the couch for a nice nap with a cool breeze coming in the front door! Love those kind of days! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Spangle's Story Continued:
Eventually, after working Spangle in the round pen for a couple months, I got on and rode him at a walk. The next time I rode we trotted. We have been working on walking and trotting under saddle for a while. Two months ago we tried loping. He bucked. I made him gallop once I was safely on the ground. Got back on and walked and trotted him. I also lunged him at a lope.

Did you get the architectural shingles? Those would look good on a log house too.
Yes, weird weather for you, but probably needed and a nice break from hot and dry.
Don't know if I'll get the pool done in time to swim at all this summer, so with that pressure off, I'm just gonna take my time. I wanted it to be done earlier to give my daughter some sort of summer fun, but that didn't happen, so, another summer break wasted. Maybe next summer. (Sorry, I always feel so guilty that I can't give her the summer beach or mountain trips her friends have.)
Anyway, ran out of day yesterday so didn't ride, but did some groundwork with Allie again. Bought a cheap whip to desensitize with cause I'd noticed a popping balloon scared her(scared me too). I'm not very good with cracking a whip, and hit myself with it once or twice, but Allie did pretty good. She's really pretty fearless, for a horse. Its the take-me-seriously stuff she needs work with. Coming along though.
Well, I guess you didn't get to ride yesterday. Hope your cool weather holds out another day at least. Take care.

Got home and turned the boys out for some pasture time, of course they love that! LOL! Tomorrow I'll start getting ready to leave on Wed for our last show of the season. I'M GOING CRAZY HERE....
Thanks guys for the suggestions, however, I'm in Canada and Smart Pac can not ship here. I will see what Cookie recommends. I don't think it is restless leg syndrome as Cindy suggested, he only does this at night when in his stall. He has a Jolly Ball, he has a huge stall, he has Sterly visible over the half door, he is outside ALL day long, I mean from 6:30 AM to 5 or 6 PM, he has the barn open during the day if he wants in out of the sun or rain. I have given this a lot of thought and I really think he started this when he was not being ridden last summer, now I have a NASTY habit to try to break. I'm just so angry that I did not nip it in the bud last summer, grrrr. Please Charlie stop this. We are going to cover all the exposed wood and concrete in that corner, at least if he still kicks the concussion should be less. Thanks for listening to all this, Love you all, we left a vote, Donna Lee

I'm laughing at what all you say Cisco does with his nose. Funny boy. Can't keep his feelings secret, can he?
They say to dig down rather than fill up for the pool base so the fill dirt doesn't wash away and you lose your level over time. That's what has me a little worried about how we've done it. The footing are leveled on solid ground, but then we added dirt between the footings to help hold up the wall (the footings are supposed to be buried so the top is ground level and the wall is supported by solid ground all the way around). Then sand goes in under where the liner rests on the ground. Its getting there, just super slow.
Did groundwork with Allie yesterday (the 4th training session since I laid down the law) and she was great. She respected my space but also didn't act like I was trying to make allie-burgers out of her. Much better. Hope to do some more today.
Well, sorry about the long post. Hope you have a good Sunday.
