How We Met
My old horse had become to old to do anything, so i was looking for a new partner. (dont worry i still own my old horse, i just keep him with my grandmother) My cousin told me about a POA. i had no idea what a POA was or what it stood for. She told me it was a kind of pony. I'm 5'8 and 13 years old, A PONY? she told me she was a big pony. so i reluctantly went and test rode her. i than new i had to have her. they wanted $300 for her, becuause she came off a kill truck and she was only half broke, and underweight. but i fell in love with her. My cousin came back with the trailer and the rest is history..

PLEASE VOTE STERL MAY JUNE HOTM
Roxanne loved STERL MAY, after caring for her for the first 4 years of her life, she could not let her go. Sterly spent the next 6 years of her life at Roxanne's friends place, she was not a problem, she had two other horses to play with. It was always Roxy's plan to make Sterl a riding horse, and to be fair she did go out and ride her a few times over the years, but as we all know too well, life gets in the way. Fast forward Roxanne's life, there was a marriage a couple of moves, eventually she and her husband tried to set up a small breeding farm, they wanted to try and make it in the STANDARDBRED business, so they gathered a few mares and they even trained a couple for the track. Sterly came home. It is a tough business and it costs lots of money, money that they were not making, they both were holding down full time jobs as well as trying to make it racing. Long story short, it took about a year to realize they were broke and so liquidate the liabilities keep the assets. Sterly had to go. This is where I come in. At the boarding barn where I leased there was one other English rider, I would plan my trips to the barn when I knew she would be there, she is the one that over heard the conversation about me wanting to get MY OWN HORSE. She told me about Sterly, so I called Roxanne, I went to meet her and with my borrowed saddle and bridle I rode her right there in her paddock. The rest of that day you can read in her profile "how we met" STERLY had just turned 11 when Roxy and I delivered her to the boarding barn, I had my own horse, and she was BEAUTIFUL. HELLO! So my mom, Lena, has decided she want to run for HOTM, but, in order to do that she's going to need at least 600 votes! Now I think she misplaced them somewhere and I don't think we are smart enough to know where she put them. But by pressing a button at the top of my club horse account I'm pretty sure we'll be able to find them! Also if you do we'll return the favor! :)

WOULD LOVE YOUR SUPPORT
Before I bought Sterl May(read her how we met story please),I used to lease a solid bred paint mare, at a local boarding stable not far from home. Her name was Fool Kat, I leased because as an adult getting back into riding, I wanted to be sure before I bought my own horse. The barn owners thought that I should buy a foal and raise it up. One of the other riders at the barn heard this and she said she knew of someone that had a horse for sale for not too much $$$ she mostly wanted a good home for this horse. The only thing was, she was a STANDARDBRED, that didn't mean anything to me. I went to meet her, and I will never forget the feeling I had when I walked into her paddock, she tuRned to look at me, THOSE EYES, THOSE BEAUTIFUL EYES, she still has those beautiful eyes, thanks for your support, we left a vote too. ☆★☆ Good Sunday morning! Hugs and a vote… 26 MPG winds! 44 degree’s but wind chill is 34. That is cold to us but compared to you folks in northern states it probably sounds warm-lol. I apologize for being a cry baby yesterday! I will get my” tech” stuff taken care of and I have a plan!!!
Yesterday made Deacon & I’s 6th anniversary together! It was cloudy after work but no winds and I did have to wear a jacket but it was pleasant outside so I haltered up each horse one at a time and took them to this spot that is about an 8’ by 12’ area that has a lot of green grass growing. It needed mowed so each horse got 5 minutes to eat! They were in HEAVEN!!!! Then I rode Deacon bareback with just his halter to celebrate our anniversary together. We walked, then trot and I backed him and side passed both directions. I repeated this about 3 times and then he gave me his famous kisses and I hugged him and turned him loose…he is such a smooth ride! Have a great day ♥

Hay!
I rode a Blaze for 3n-a half hours!We rode by ourselves on the gravel roads for about 2 hours,and for the last hour we rode with my neighbor on the trails and through the creek at their place...Blaze liked the water with this sudden warm-snap...no one says warm-snap,they say heat-wave...well,I'ma just say warm-snap!lol...I hope you are getting some ride time in..but I don't really know what your weather is like..but,if you lived in Missouri,you would understand what it means to say "we got a whole year's worth of weather in one day"...it's supposed to rain now I think,and there is still some snow on the ground,the sun was shining,the wind was blowing...a whole lot was going on!!lolCome visit me, Melvin ~ R.I.P, Western Riders 4 Helmets, DT Kings Way Lyn, Blaze, Lady & Kisses.

Yeah,sometimes I kinda miss her and wonder where she's at if she is still alive,b/c they live a long time,especially the ponies,but she was probably already about 17 or 18 when my grandparents gave her to me,and she had bad health when they picked her up at a sale barn (she needed a heat lamp,a LOT of farrier work,and needed to learn to trust people again,b/c she was neglected...that might be why she was kind of mean sometimes,just keeping her guard up!)But now I have Skip and Blaze,so its all good!The people who bought her from us had a little,little girl riding her,and they said they kind of "clicked" and she rode her all ove the place...and followed her around like a puppy,just like she did for me,so I'm glad she got to teach at least one more little kid before she may have passed away!Ihope its not to bad outside for u to ride!I rode Skip today to visit the grave of our dog...he died last night in his sleep :(Come visit me, Melvin ~ R.I.P, Western Riders 4 Helmets, DT Kings Way Lyn, Blaze, Lady & Kisses.

LOL!Yeah,my family has a history of falling on they're head...the first time I was bucked off,I was bareback on possibly the meanest Shetland pony to ever walk this earth...she has bucked me off,kicked me and bit me so many times I lost count.But,still,you never forget your first horse/pony,and I loved her anyway!She was the sweetest thing on the ground once you gave her a treat..she also liked beer...(the doing of my dad's friends one day as i was messing with her...they decided to see if she would drink it...she did!lol)we sold her when I was about 8 or 9...she's probably passed away by now,but she taught me a lot about horses/ponies.It sounds like you need arm supports when you ride,not a helmet!lolCome visit me, Melvin ~ R.I.P, Western Riders 4 Helmets, DT Kings Way Lyn, Blaze, Lady & Kisses.

Hi.I do trust my horses,and if you want to ride without a helmet,that is completely your choice and you are entitled to it.However,a lot of helmets are NOT expensive and can save you hundreds or even thousands in doctor bills.I was raised to put safety first when dealing with horses,because you are no good to anyone dead or seriously injured,especially your horse(s).And,I would also like to say that all horses are extremely unpredictable-they have a brain too.I was riding a horse that was used for lessons,and out of the blue she bucked me off and I lost consciousness and had to go to the hospital.Luckily,I was fine and escaped with a concussion and bruised ribs.Yes,about 90% of "freak" accidents involving horses are rider/handler error,but again,horse are smarter than many people credit them to be.Also,just because our riding style was built up in a no helmet fashion,doesn't mean that we can't encourage young western riders to wear a helmet,at least while they are learning.And it's not just English riders who wear helmets.ALL other disciplines/seats in the world require a helmet for competition.And,have you heard of competitive trail riding?That requires a helmet too,for TRAIL RIDING!I understand your opinion,and please don't take this offensively,but I'm a safety nut and intend to spread my safety nut ways to other people!Thank you!P.S.you have a pretty P.O.A,my firend has a very small one (like shetland pony size!) that I grew up around and she is great and loves all that your horse/pony loves-barrels and jumping specifically!Come visit me, Melvin ~ R.I.P, Western Riders 4 Helmets, DT Kings Way Lyn, Blaze, Lady & Kisses.

Thank ya'll so much for Sugar's HOTD!!! I was so surprised when I saw her in the HOTD window!! Not much is going on today. Just relaxing and waiting for time to pass. Being on HC sure helps. Thank ya'll so much for putting up and understanding my horse craziness. :) How are you doing? Have you got any horse time in?
To continue my story of Sugar. I saw the pictures of Sugar and I instantly fell in love with her. A few days later I went to test ride her. She behaved like an angel and was a great mount for my beginner skills. A week or two later Sugar came to her new home. It was a dream come true for me. She stayed in a lil shed by the place we were staying at and I had to lead her everyday to the pasture that she could graze in. I'll put more up tomorrow.

★☆ Good Sunday morning! Hugs and vote… After work yesterday I went home and haltered Whiskey and brushed him out and gave him carrots. I will get Deacon today and Rocket tomorrow. Cliff put out another round bale. Those guys sure love Cliff when he has that big ol’ round bale in his truck. It is so much fun to watch the horses when he’s putting the ring around it. Very comical!!! Have a beautiful horsey day!

good morning everyone :)
i was out of school on friday for snow and it melted so i was super excited that i could finally have a lesson.....BUT then it snowed AGAIN on saturday night so there was about an inch of snow on the ground on sunday :( i hate winter! all my friends are like freaking out and all excited about the snow but then there's the horse people like you and me who just HATE the snow hahah! non-horsey people just don't understand. soooo i will have to wait another week before i get to ride ziggy, it's been over a month officially since i've ridden him :( i miss him so much! i was also out of school yesterday for parent teacher conferences. soooo that's about it for me but i hope you had a wonderful weekend, here's a vote and have a good day!

HI! Our herd is dashing by with a good night vote. When I finish leaving my blogs and votes I will read the blogs on my pages. How are you tonight? I am tired and ready for rest, playing catch up is hard when you get old. LOL! But at least I am better now! And happy for it!
I caught up on half of my work load. Then I went outside to clean up.
Cleaning up after Fancy and Trigger was not hard as I expected. Was I glad for that! I have an old tire that I used in the past to teach Fancy to pull using the saddle horn. I put that in her corral, just in case she wanted something different to play with. It wasn't long before Fancy had the rope in her mouth and she was swinging the tire back in forth in front of her. It was very funny to see. But I did wonder if it was safe. Do you think there is any harm of her breaking her teeth by doing that? It is a small tire, but a little larger than a wheel barrow tire.
Trigger never plays with anything, or at least we never see him play with anything. He just stands around or eats. He is soo quiet. Trigger and Fancy are the total oppisite. She will run crazy and gets angry if Trigger does not run too. Once in a blue moon Trigger will run with her, but that only last one go around and he is done. LOL.
