Small craft shops have some real neat "one of a kind" items. I alway watch for things for Christmas at the swaps and craft sales. Lucky, my one sister makes soaps, and another one makes candles. I usually order things from them. All my sisters can do something, like sewing, quilting, candy making, I have some real hidden talent, its hidden so deep, it may never make it out.
Sort of a nice day, went to Mom's, Mike and I were there alone, Kat and Dennis are in DC. Mike fixed the timer for her outdoor lights,Phil brought her the timer, when he was here at Thanksgiving time, but Mom never tried it. He just call her to see if it worked for her and it did. Snowing out again, but lightly.
My glasses will not be here for about a week. I can see find, but since I did not get my eyes checked since 8th grade, and our insurance offers 1 free checkup, thought I should go in.

Eye dr. appointment yesterday. Sorry, could not get on computer last night, had my eyes dilated and could not stand the bright lights. I need glasses for distance, so I picked a dark purple colored ones, of course I can always blame it on my eyes being goofy, if I do not like them.
Still cold but no winds so that is good. Few more inches of snow. Moved Mary's chickens out of the little room inside the coop, put her hens in with mine, and her two roosters in where the goat was. "was" going to let the rabbits (girls) loose inside the little room, but mine started fighting, so now one is loose and one in the cage, at least there is better lighting instead of having it half dark. Snow is covering the sky-lights, in the back of the shed.

last yr, but still not warm, South wind makes the house cold.
It snowed all day yesterday, and all day today, but not hard. I heard up to 10 inch, but I think we got 7-8, light and fuffy. Got plowed out last night. Today we went an picked up some old hay at Jennifer's barn and took it up to Phillips for an old guy's water system, same guy that Joe brings down for Thanksgiving dinner.
Did a bit of cleaning up today, trying to find a way to the couch. :)
Right now I have 5 giant black bags of clothes to take to Connections,(sort of like GoodWill), and they are not taking anything until sometime in January. So started going threw some of it, found home for most of the men's jeans, vest type jackets on their way to Washington DC, (my niece teaches low income kids, and will find homes for these jackets and vest), sweatshirts, and hoodies are going the opposite direction, but soon I will have only the summer items left.

I will trade you weather, but I am afraid Marion and I would have to wrestle for it....I would put Dominic in my place...Ha ha. (This was a note to Allie's Mom). We have about 9 inches of new snow, it was so pretty outside today. Snowed all day long. Temps were not out of the teens usually around 12. Some windy, but with this fresh snow horses were running around, and making snow angels or sometype of angels.
Goats do not need blankets, they have long hair and Cindy Lou is fat, well pleasing plump. My horses do not need blankets either. They have long hair, and "lots of padding".
Made some molasses cookies this afternoon, and a raspberry tort, with left over jam. Taste good or maybe I am still hungry.

As it is getting closer to Christmas, I see I have way too much to do. Have some Christmas decorations up, but have so much stuff I have to stick away someplace, first.
Went to Phillips, (23 miles from Kennan, where Dominic lives) Pick n Save had sugar(s), ch. chips, and baking goodies on sale for 99 cents, last day so figured I should go. After we got home around 10, I started washing jars up because last night Mike brought up the last of the raspberries to make jam. About the same as last time 16 jars, but some of them are quart jars. Next year I hope berries do not do so good. Black walnuts to were over produced, I have so many of them to crack yet.
Cindy Lou likes being with the geese/duck and does not call out so much. I hope it is warm enough for her.
Tomorrow is suppose to be the start of a slow warm up. This morning it was -3 but hardly any wind while I was doing chores, it got sunny late in the afternoon.

Snow is not too bad to drive in "if" you can see some path or tracks, but I have driven plenty of nights home from to work/or to work, with barely seeing the ditches. 30 miles of that is no fun, and did not even have a cell phone.
Very cold wind today, and cold snap is coming tonight and for the next few days. Highs in the low teens. Just watch those geese will be sitting out in the snow, instead of being inside with a foot of sawdust to warm their feet. and then the ducks think oh, that must be fun and sit right next to them.
Hope tomorrow the wind do not blow.

Weird weather is right, temps all over the place. At least its not only here.
My brother is a good cook, I sure do not take after him. Venison can be tough, I use to can it, but now my son makes jerky and sausage. If I still had my pressure cooker I would can it up, but 3 hours in a water bath is way too long.

Today was "suppose" to be warmer, well 27 is warmer than 17, but such a dampness in the air, made it feel worst. I was going to put Cindy Lou, the goat in with her duck and geese friends, then more Mary's red chickens into a bigger pen, but did not happen, perhaps tomorrow. Mike will be helping Mikey put in a different window. Put up a bit more Christmas decorations with Dominic's help. Before he left, he counted his $$$, 17 dollars, and he said Wow, for once, I even got a 5. I told him that was for helping with Thanksgiving dinner. Still have to add a few more dollars for him helping out here today. For a teenager, he is not moody, and has a good sense of humor. He took his shotgun and went out grouse hunting, but only see one, which scared him when it took off.

Chalk another one up to Mother Nature. Snow is fun if you don't have it for 5-6 mts of a yr. Is it cold too. If yours melts, come and get some of our, but we only have about 4-5 inches, we need more to help insulate things. Snow does help keep things warm.
Just got home from my brother's venison cookout. He had it at the cabin my Dad built. Good food, but I do not eat meat, so had to pretend, to take some. Corn, and mushrooms/onions were good. Watching the deer come is was neat, only 2 bucks, and about 5-6 does, I can remember when there would be around 40-50 deer, but that was before the wolves were introduced back in.

It must be hard for you to have such a change in temps. Here that is the normal pattern. We were suppose to have a high around 17-19, but I seen 21 this afternoon.
Remember all the raspberries Mike and I picked this summer, well I have 16 jars of raspberry jam sitting on the table now. Still have a few more ice cream pails full of frozen berries to do. Been making low sugar jam, but it makes such a small batch, so did double it twice, if that makes sense. 4 times the berries, like 8 cups at a time.
Tomorrow I should be getting the geese and ducks to care for. I had the pen all ready since she ask me about taking them in. Stay Warm tonight!!

That sure is a big drop in temperature. That's the way we were from Sunday to Monday morning. But the week after Thanksgiving was so nice, usually around 39-42, but one (or two days) it was up to 50. We had a high of 17 today, around 4 right now and dropping. South wind makes our house cooler, 65 so Mike started the pellet stove. But that just heats the "sunshine room", that's what our kids nicknamed it, because its on the south side, also the bathroom and our bedroom.
Stay warm.

I have not even thought about what to get everyone this yr. for Christmas. Have 3 more to buy for, but will likely just give $$$, as last yr. Everyone is working so and because there are more to buy for, will give a bit less. I put money in the grandkids account each month, and Dominic helps me here, so he always gets paid. In fact, he keeps his "piggy bank" here, so his Dad does not get into it.
I finally, got all my Christmas things down. Did have a few things put up in the bathroom, and kitchen windows, but it was items I found this summer/fall at Connections and a few garage sales. I decorate simple, with pine branches, pinecones, and natural things.

Glad I am not the only one who shares their food with the horses. I do make them cookies, which is just oatmeal, a bit of flour, molasses and applesauce, then made into cookies and baked.
Mother Nature sure is not behaving around here either. Last night I walked out to check everyone around 9 temps were 49, did not even need a jacket, just a heavy sweatshirt, this morning it looked like the tundra. White everwhere, and winds gusts up to 40 miles, temps were 14 and did not make it much higher all day.
Glad I covered the rabbit cages. I have hay bales around them and plenty of hay inside. No one came out of the barn until the winds died down, ate hay and went back inside.
Cleaned pictures which are on 3 shelves around the living room, pictures from the time some of the grandkids were a yr old, so have plenty. I tell them that is the only thing I want for Christmas each yr is a picture of them. And they were very dusty. It seems I decorate all yr for Haloween with all the cob webs I took down. Washed up all the little figurines on Dave's shelf, and felt like crying even more, while I washed his pictures.
Mike went to Dominic wrestling match, 4 schools were there, and Phillips did good. Dominic had a bye and won his second match. Mike just got home and said nearly a family reunion, Rich came from Wausau, Tristan, Maya, and little Ryder from EAu Claire, (Tuesday and Saturday are his days off), and Joe and Mike. I am glad they all get along.....usually. :)

The 3 of us enjoyed the pie, I had a couple of nibbles before I broke it in half and gave it to them. Our nice weather has ended, just a sprinkle overnight, but only got to 55 today with strong winds. Everyone was running and bucking, even Jazz got in a little prancing.

What no pellets, your little herd will go on strike for you. Today is the very last day of our nice weather, temps wise, it also rained most of the day on and off. Nice puddles out there. I forgot to tell everyone, that the gal finally brought down her chickens, rabbits and a goat, still has to catch the geese and ducks. Rabbits are 2 Cinnamon giant breeds know for meat and their soft pellets, and 2 dwarf they have short ears. She lucky I have alot of cages, but everyone is settling in, except Cindy Lou the goat. She is use to being let outside to run around, but we fixed up under the lean-to today, put up wind coverings so she can spend her time outside and run around, her pen is about 24 x 20, but I think she is lonesome, for the ducks and geese. I am going to put the 7 chickens with her tomorrow.
Tonight it is getting down to 17, but right now nearly 10 it is still 49 degree. The rest of the week is down hill, barely getting out of the teens and 20's, with high winds. But it was nice while it lasted. Whisper, Willow and Mistic spent all day out in the big pasture only coming in for water and of course their treats, when I call them in for the night.

Sorry, I did not get on last night to send more votes and comments. Started reading some old John Lyons booklets and then a book, and got so tired just went to bed.
Today, my sister Kathy, called to see if I would come over and go up in the attice of Gr Grandma Rose house, because the place is falling down, kitchen and living room are already in the basement. Upstairs was find, and real solid, so told her and Mike to come up. Not much upthere besides an old iron or brass bed frame, and raccoon poop. Helped her go threw rest of the down stair, that we could. She wants to remove some of the old hardwood flooring before it is burnt down. Her daughter brought the land a few yrs ago, and wants to move a trailer house there, for when they come up in the summer. Her 2 daughters both live in DC, and her son in Kansas. Then off to Mom's we went, ate some good homemade chicken veggie soup that my sister Lori's husband made, ate too much and got some nice talking or visiting in.
Been waiting to be ask how many brothers and sister I have, well, I had 10 of them, but my sister Charleen and Stacy have both passed away, and both of them in December.

Roses!! Wow, that's great, Mother Nature never stops amazing me. The year that our baby Robbie died, I planted tulips and other bulbs all over his grave, and they were blooming late in the fall.
Why is it, that men think like kids, indestructible, they just do not want to admit, that they should listen.
Started some of my spring cleaning.....from 15 yrs ago. Well, I washed windows, that does count, washed clothes and hung out on the line, been putting the horses and steers out in the big field/pasture since hunting season. But have to keep a close eye on them, since the neighbors leftover corn looks good to them. Very windy today again, but at least around 40-41.

I sure know what you mean about the winds, this last week would have been nearly perfect for late fall, but "some wind bag" sort of makes it hard to be walking into the wind, thats for sure. And it seems no matter what direction I am going, the wind is in my face, which makes my eyes watery and itchy, and makes my nose dip. Worked out side alot today, cleaned up more in the shop, making room for the lawn mower and 4 wheeler. Then Mikey came with a buddy and needed the planner dug out, and spend a few hours planing down boards for his house. We went to Mom's to help her clean out her refrigerator, so make home with a lot of rabbit food, and stuff for the chickens. Washed clothes and they dried in record time for this being fall. Moved old hay bales closer to the back big door, for now I open it so guineas can go out, but next week there will be a big drop in temperatures, so want to have things already to be closed up.

No grizzly bears around here, do have the black bears some right in our woods, but have never seen one, while just walking around. See them in our fields and crossing the pastures. I use the term grizzly bears, to scare the chickens when they do not want to go in...I tell them, "fine just stay our here, where the grizzly bears, can eat you", then shortly after they hear that, they start heading in.
Another windy but warm day, top out at 47, but did hear 52 on the radio. Spent most of the day cleaning house, cleaning saddles, and making a mess. Have to ship 2 saddles to my friend, but hard to find a good, strong box.

Woods are beautiful but meadow has gotten over grown with weeds and brush. Creek has sort of changed it path, but we did manage to walk from where Mom lives now threw the woods to the old place about 2 miles....I think she ask me to come along so the "grizzly bears" eat me first. :)

We have had cold temperatures, (nearly everyday since the end of September) now when it is nearly Dec. we will be having 40-50's for the next few days, but nights drop down to single digits. But I hope that wind will give us a break. Mother Nature sure has some "mood swings".
Last night I just could not think of a "word" for the Connections store, but thrift store is about right.
Today was nice temperature wise, but once again those winds were so bad. This afternoon at least it was sunny. Visited with my Mom today, and helped her put up the Christmas tree, not a real one, like she wanted, but she said this one is easier. No pine needles to clean up. Not a small tiny one either, about 7-8 ft tall. Gave Mike something to do, while we made sandwiches, because the hunters were going to come out of the woods and would need a lunch.
All this week is going to be nice, little chance of snow, so plan on getting more saddles or tack sent out, and getting our tree from the woods.

Lilly is better off with the other calves. She like to stand next to Jack, when he would come to the fence. Your Lilly sounds like a sweetheart. My first horse, King, I taught to ground tie, mostly just by accident.
. We went to Ladysmith, to get a few things, found a pair of slippers for 6 dollars, (at Walmart) for Mike's brother in the nursing home. They sure marked up most of the price from Black Friday. No Saturday specials, just left over things still out. Went to the Connections, (sort of like St Vinny's) had 5 dollar bag day for clothing. Founds some brand new sweatshirts for myself....I wear mine until they look like they belong in the rag bag. :), plus some nice soft jacket/sweater for Mike went the house feels cold. Can not remember all the things. For 5 dollars, I fit 7 items in that bag, had to beable to tie thehandles together.
Today was not like yesterday, but in the 30's, but that dang old wind again.

Hope your Thanksgiving was great!!
Mother Nature must have out did herself today. It hit 54, all most T-shirt weather. I took advantage of it too.
Moved Lilly over to Jennifer's barn with the rest of the calves, had no problems loading her, but she jumped down off the trailer and then limped for a long time. She sure wanted to investigate all the pasture. We did lock her in with them and later went back to check on her. There she will beable to get outside and also inside if weather is bad. Because once we line the back door with haybales, it will be closed for the winter. The bottom lets too much cold air into the back of our shed. While Mike, Dominic and his Dad, Joe, cut up the vension, I cleaned the shop out. Took little guineas out and now have them in the coop...separate little room, if or when it gets cold, I have a heat lamp ready. So had to clean out their water tank which was their home. Next cleaned out 2 rabbit cages, and moved them in the back of the shed. Without Lilly, I can make hay houses around the cages. Swept and moved things around so now there is lots of room. Most of it is boards, that just needed to go back where they belong. Such a beautiful day, hope tomorrow is the same, but I think today was a rare thing.

I hope everyone had something....more than one thing....to be thankful for. We certainly do have a lot of blessing.
Mother Nature, "finally" decided to play nice. Sunshine and warm, well, seen 37 this afternoon, and not wind.
Dinner went great, Mike peeled potatoes, turkey was done right on time 11, so it had time to stand for a bit before everyone started coming around 11:30. Dominic helped set table and put out pickles, napkins, cheese, raw veggies and dip, but he forgot the coleslaw. 2 could not make it, so Jennifer took food home to them, and enough for her and Mike for tomorrow. Still have plenty of leftovers. Total of 10, Joe brought an old guy whose land he hunts on. My Dad uses to play horseshoes with him on a league.
While Mike took his 2 o'clock nap early, I let out chickens, Lilly and guinea hens went out earlier, and so did the horses. Worked in the chicken coop, put down another bag of woodchips, and changed a few roost, set up a old pair of sawhorses, and put boards across. Hopefully, the young guinea hens will stop picking on a few chickens, if there is more room to roost. Tonight when they all came in, the hens were thanking me for not inviting them for dinner or to be dinner. :) I like my chicken and they normally die of old age. Happy Thanksgiving...so who's going shopping tomorrow....not me said the "little red hen".

I guess this cold weather has given me the s-l-o-w-s!! Went and did some grocery shopping for things I needed for Thanksgiving dinner. Should be 10 people if no one brings a friend or two. Always enough food. So today make the pumpkin I cooked the other day into pies. Dominic was not here to help, but I it get it down. Made 4 pies and some peanut butter cookies. Cooked up the sweet potatoes, and have them cooked in the oven, with br sugar and butter. Made the stuffing or dressing, and turkey is all ready to go in the oven about 7 tomorrow morning. Last night, I was working on saving a few more horses from Ryons Rescues Pen (its on Facebook), but everyone ships in what they can to help save the horses. I donated for 2 of them, in fact one of the girls working to give it a home, was a girl I knew yrs ago. I only had enough to give 10 dollars to each horse. But while working on that I just did not keep an eye on the time. So I had the votes in already, and did not have time to say anything.

Have a whole 5qts of pumpkin puree, all ready for pies. Made some pumpkin pudding, same as pie but not crust, for supper, and tried a bowl of some cubes. Very good taste, some times they taste too young. This one was so big, cut in half filled a oven rack, and then other half went on the bottom.
Very windy today, but not rain or snow. Someplaces got up to near 40. 34 was the tops I seen But tomorrow is the start of colder temps again. Another very windy and cold day, but guess what...Mr. Sun is actually still alive, because he made a brief a very brief showing today. Dominic can shot a doe yet this season, but we do not hunt does, because we have so few of them on our land. 6 does and fawns come out daily. Neighbors do not seem to care what they shoot, but we are trying to build our herd up. A few yrs ago we only had 1 or 2 does, so slowly it is coming up.
Went to Mom's today (always meet up at Mom's on Sunday for a few hours) and my brother had just come home from Alaska. It was good to see him and of course lots of pictures of his 3 kids and grandkids. They were here this summer, but he did retire early because of his hands being so bad.
