How far do you have to go to the feedstore. When out local feedstore would grind it's own feed, I loved the smells of molasses, and corn/oats. Now, they buy the feed from one that is still local, but only sells to feed stores.
We will be getting snow tomorrow, 1-5 inches. Today was in the high 20's but once again spoiled by those sharp cold winds. Like, if you make it around the corner of the house, you can make it to the barn, but you have to hold your breath before you get to the corner. Joe, cut 2 more truck loads of wood, and Mike and Dominic filled them up. Will get more as we need it, and Joe has the time. Went to Mom's for a few hours, then took Dominic home.
I moved the naughty guinea hens, (I think 3 males) into the back of the shed. They seem to like to attack the chickens, and Mr. Roo does nothing about it. But I have about 5 younger chicken hens, that these g. hen males grew up with without tail feathers, left 3-4 smaller g. hens, (I think females) in there, also open the small room inside the coop, to let out the youngest g.hens, so they can start learning to socialize. Tomorrow, if temps are up, I will put the g. hen from the basement back in with it's friends. It does not do that "twisting" of it's head and neck anymore.

I sure like the sound of that...you have bits of "green grass" coming up. Gives the rest of us hope.
Was in the 20's today, but sort of windy and damp feeling. Been gone nearly all day, left for the funeral before 10, it was big, but Aunt Helen have a big family, 8 kids, and now even great great grandchildren. Uncle Andy, was in a wheelchair, but still remembers everyone. Last time I was up to see them in the nursing home, he was walking, but nursing homes don't want the old people walking fearing that they might fall.
Probably going to cut firewood tomorrow, in the morning. Dominic is here for the night, he lost in sectionals today, but still that is good.

I think most rabbits have 6-7 babies, sort of like cats, but I should have ask Big Jax Mom, she said they had around 300 rabbits growing up. I do not generally raise rabbits, just pets, but this yr. I plan on trying to sell some at the swaps. But once we had a mother rabbit have 9 of them.
Precious is fine, I check in for redness or infection, so far so good. Washed all the dogs and cat's blankets, and rugs today, to make sure they will not cause any germs to make her sick. She acts like before, but, so far the basement light has not been turned on by her. Before she would be on her bed, (cushions from the couch stacked up) and then jump up and catch the string from the light. The worst thing is, when I ask you did it, she just acts, like "what I did not do anything". Silly Kitten.
Today was very cold again, in the afternoon, winds really picked up. We went out and cut a load of firewood, mostly stuff where they are harvesting the timber, but they only take the main part of the tree, so we get a permit and can pick home a load or two a day.

Too bad you could not box/bag up then sell all that hot air to people in the winter time. You would be one rich woman.
We were up in the 40's earlier today, watered and feed Mikey's calves and then stopped by Mom to drop off her garage tubs, (we pick up her cans and recyclables for her), cut up a tree in our pastures and by then it was getting cooler and "felt" like rain. Heard on the weather report, our snow measures are down about 7 inches, not sure if they mean that fell or what is left after 3 days of warmer weather, but tonight temps will fall down below zero again.
Tomorrow I will add more hay to the water tank for the rabbit just incase she will be having babies. Yep it takes about 28-30 days for rabbits, I remember, and still laugh about that because our kids had rabbits for 4-H, and figured they could have 12 batches of baby bunnies a year...they multiply fast enough.

Near 70 that's summer to us. Last year we did not have many hot days. Funny comic strip, Mike uses the smoke from the outdoor stove for his wind gauge. So far so good with Precious, she did want to go down into the basement with Grizzly this morning, but I am keeping an eye on her.
Took Mom into Ladysmith today, because it was so nice outside. She said she could not see wasting the day doing cross word puzzles. She had to pick up her pills, and it was a nice day. Mother Nature really outdid herself.....I take back all....well, some of the nasty things I said about her. :). Seen 41 one time and NO wind, and plenty of sunshine. Hopefully, we did not hog all this good weather and some of it will reach the east coast, so if it gets to Paige, Rocky, and Big Jax, remember the Queen Whisper had a little hoof in it.
Hear my guinea hen trying to sing in the basement again. Took the female rabbit back outside, a few days ago, I noticed some hair clumps, like as if making a nest. I was way below zero then, but not babies, which I did not think so, because she was never loose when the male rabbit was out, but I remember your theory about having 2 girls or 2 boys and suddenly there are these "magical" baby bunnies. Still watching Mary's doe, because her goat Cindy Lou, did let the male out. It was the night of Mom's birthday bingo party Jan. 20th, so I have marked the calendar on Feb. 17 just to start watching.

We got into the 20's today, but Mother Nature never plays nice....warmer weather but bitterly strong winds. I had to take Precious up to the vet for her spraying appointment and drove threw "long white wind snakes" nearly all the way there, nearly 20 miles of dead snow snakes now. Some places it was like a big spot of snow was on the road. I have one ear that seems even with a tight cap on must have gotten wind in it. Mike had to drive Mikey to Wausau for his appointment....to check out his bladder for cancer. He said test were all OK.
Precious is still sleeping, put her in a big pet taxis for the night. She did not want any water or food, in the morning I have another pill to give her. For once she looks so cuddly and not a holy tear.
Tomorrow it should be warmer, maybe 40's, hear this morning on the radio that we have been 14 degree below normal, sure did not need them to tell me that.

Swelling and bruising sounds normal, even the lump does in away. I had the cut, (dog bite from Mom's dog happen on News Years Day) just a small "V" shaped cut and I think it had gotten proud fresh and I can still feel the lump where it is. Yes, I had to go in for a tetanus shot.so I ask for a flu shot too.
Funeral is on Saturday for my aunt, Helen, she was 95 nearly 96. Today was not too bad outside, got up to 11-12, maybe more, but I very seldom check how cold it is, just look to see if there is wind. I do that by looking at the flower stems in the flower beds to see if they are moving....real scientific way. :)

Today the wind was up a bit, only -9 but felt colder this morning. Spent a few hours with Mom today, after we got home found out my Aunt Helen had died last night, Mom must not have know yet, or she would have mentioned it. She and Uncle Ray were the last 2 children out of 14 on my Dad's side. I think she is or near 90. She had the flu and has been in the nursing home for a few years, with her husband Andy. He is one of the last survivors of WWII.
Dominic took 2nd in his weight class in Sectionals on Saturday, so next will be Regionals, (next Saturday the 17th) and if he wins 1st or 2nd will go on to State. I keep telling I am still tougher than him with my puny little muscles. Last time I told him that, he picked me up off the floor and was going to throw me out in the deepest snowbank....but I cried "uncle".

Hopefully, the cold will not last long for you and the cats will think it is summer again. Is it windy too?? Then that would feel very cold.
Glad Scott is feeling better, and will listen this time. Does he have home exercises to do or just go in for PT.
Today it was sunny again, no wind so Mother Nature is getting a bit better, but southern Wisconsin got 9 inches of new snow. Still below zero at night, but we got up to 11 today, and guess what, next week we should hit high 30's, so I will send you all of those leftovers too. It will feel good.

Horses starting to shed for you, mean spring will be coming.....sometime this year. Hurry Spring!! Today was not bad, but only in the single digits, but we had no wind and Mr. Sun was out. Still light out now and nearly 6, sun is coming up early in the morning....not sure what time, cause my eyes are not open enough to tell time yet.
Chicken are finally earning their keep, got 5 eggs today, usually its one or two all winter, and they come frozen. No duck or geese eggs yet. End of February they "should" start.

Weird winter weather is sure "weird" this winter. :) We did get up to 8 today, but no wind so was not bad outside. Hauled loose hay from the round bales into the geese and ducks, they sure make short work out of flattening it all down. Will have to give more wood chips and sawdust tomorrow, with the water pan inside at night, the splash it all over, and it freezes down the woodchips. But they need water to keep their nose clean otherwise it get plugged up with grain and junk. Usually, they go threw about 8 gallons of water....not all get drank, mostly just splashing around.

I suppose it's your winter when it sleets and rains, how dry is the country you are in. Still never got around to looking it up on a map.
Now we all know why the sole is not trimmed too much in the winter. Queen Whisper is doing her best to order warmer weather for you and the rest of the regions, but Mother Nature just laughs and said it is on "back order". We might be cold, got up to 10-- better than 7, and blessed with sunshine. Mike and I went over to Mikey's and helped with the watering and feeding calves. Poor Lilly wants to spend more time trying to lick on you and get you to pet and brush her, than she does eating. We have to put the pony out and then wait while the calves all eat about 15 minutes or so, then the pony can come back in, little pony is fat enough and certainly does not need more corn. When we went up to Mom's and took her the pills we picked up for her, chatted for a bit, until my sister Sherri called, and I had her convinced she had called our number, Sherri can talk for hours, and still not finish everything you wanted to discuss with her. We left then, sun felt to go, worked outside a bit and then watered and put round bales in, but had to convince the tractor vacation was over, and gave him a nice warm battery.
Moved the young guinea hen into the cage in the basement with a light, not really cold down there, but cooler than the upstairs. That bird is never going to make over into a canary, she sure can not sing. But at least she is dried off, she was just soaked when I brought her in, now she has to stay until temps warm up outside. Taking her out now, she would just die.....if I could teach her to sing, she could be a house bird. :) If you ever heard a guinea hen noise, you know why I put the "smiley" face.

Maybe Scott's hospital stay made him second think about things. Glad you are there for him. I am sure he does appreciate that fact.
We had another cold windy day, did get up to 7 above, from -14. Look on the bright side, could have been -24 and winds. Geese and ducks are staying inside when there are winds. Had to feed some small squares this afternoon, because tractor decided it was still on vacation and stayed in the shed dreaming of being on the beach with my sister, Kat. I told her hope she brings some back with her. Probably a little jar full of sand is what I will get. My sister Debbie birthday was yesterday, her and hubby, Gary went on a cruise threw Panama canal then to Calafornia and will be driving back to Milwaukee. I am lucky to get to Ladysmith once a week.

At least when Queen Whisper says, "Scott get better, Scot listens, now Mother Nature just says, We'll see about that, and makes things alot worst. That woman has no sense of humor. It did get up to 4 above, but again that wind sure does not help anything. Suppose to be below zero until next Monday, so another whole week of this bitterly cold, would not be bad, but throw in that wind. We did not have Mass last night, and about 5 this morning got plowed out. Went to Mom's, my sister Kat was not there, she is in Florida, and of course had to call and say "It's 75 here, and sunny, laying on the beach"....I told her we got 5-6 inches of snow, and she said "I have 5-6 inches of warm sand". Her husband Dennis did not come over either, he has shingles above one eye and some in his head/hair. So he was not feeling the best.

Hope Scott is feeling better, and this time listens to you. Hope you are OK after bumping your head, it sure seems those little pushed can do some damage. I have had a few black eyes when one of the colts, just happens to touch a gate, which of course always falls so it hits you square in the head, near my eye. I can always make up a "bar room bawl" picture if someone ask me what happens.
Today it was nice got up into the 20's seen 25 one time, but snowed all day, tonight, temp will be in the below zero again but in the teens. Church was called off today, we go to 4 o'clock Mass. I think it is because of all the ice under the new snow. We calling for about 6-8 inches, but don't think we got that much. Spilled 2 buckets of water today, flowed part of the driveway, which of course now will be icy. Slipped but did not fall, just splashed my water all out, and had to go back for more for the geese/ducks. They enjoy it so much, but sure make a sloppy mess with it freezing all over the rubber tubs, most of it comes out, but the edges are still frozen. In the morning I bring them one hot water and a warm one. Hope tomorrow is better, at least hope the sun appears. Next 7 days are suppose to be below 0.

Mother Nature seemed very ticked off at Queen Whisper, so she sent 30 mph winds and with temps down to -26, it sure was no fun outside feeding. We had -22, but neighbor said he had -26.
Mary's 2 dwarf bunnies now they are both males, sudden had a frozen baby bunny, dead of course, yesterday. No fur no nest, this morning was black fur but that was all. So not sure what is up. She (thinking the black one, not the brown one), must be the female/doe. Will not have to start watching other doe until around 18th....if she is bred, it would be around the 20-21. I do have pens in the basement....just in case.
Dominic came yesterday, I think just to remind me how short I am....ha, ha, he likes to rub it in. But I remind him, I am still tougher than him....right, he comes in 1st or 2nd, in nearly every wrestling match he has. But he had to go home for wrestling practice today at 2. Either I or Mother Nature, had last night very wrong.....and I am sure it was me, because yesterday morning it was -19, and I thought today was to be very cold too, well, it was 24 at 7, and nearly 30 as I did chores, and because Mike went to help Mikey do his chores before he went for his dr. appointment, (Mike did not have to drive him), I was outside nearly 3 hours. Tonight it is suppose to dip....like nose dive....down to -20 or better, so I moved rabbit cages, cleaned them out and carried in new hay, loaded everyone up with pellets, and corn, have all the rabbits in cages, but still wondering which Cinnamon rabbit is the doe, have to bring her in just incase she will decided that she wants to deliver the babies.....the male got out 2 times, and I am sure Cindy Lou had something to do with it, since she likes to jump upon cages. I do have hay bales surrounding the cage and a heavy board on top, but just this goat jumping up there makes it wiggle, so that is how the corners kept popping open not far, but if a rabbit can get its head in, the rest of its body will somehow follow.....and he is a big fellow about 15 pounds. Hopefully, the next few day will not be in the deep freeze. Today was sunny and in the 30's. Mom's appointment for 3 was cancelled, and moved up to 12, so we took her in. She enjoys Mike doing things like pumping gas and helping carry in her grocerys, and taking her to McDonalds for coffee and a hamburger.

Didn't you hear about "short" people need to wear a flag on their head or hat, so that they can be found in a room of people. I need a flag on a stick to see where I sank into the snow banks. :) That's what I get for being short.
Getting colder today, no sunshine, tomorrow Mike is taking our son Rich his meat from the beef. I am staying home because Dennis is taking him, just got done making a looooong list of feed I need from Farm and Fleet. At least my animals will smile. Cleaned out some of the old wet hay and woodchips from the geese/duck house, looks so nice and clean and warm in there now, and told them I want it kept that way. Threw out the old stuff so they can lay on it in the snow. Took Cindy Lou out, because in a few day she will be getting a play mate, and too many little hooves would be stepping on web feet. So far she has knock down hay bales and some how tipped the rabbit cage over. I had hay bales around it and a heavy board on top, knowing that goats like to climb on things. I warned her I have a pen for her, if she does any more damage. She just ran up the hay bales and laughed.

Scott came home with some gems, my sister knows her rocks, to me they are all still rocks. Glad he made it home OK.
No danger of any kind of fire with the outdoor furnace. Fire box has a water tank about it, which is heated by the fire, pipes run around the fire box, out the bottom, and underground into the house. Under ground they run threw a thick plastic piping, which is where there must be a crack, letting the heat from the pipes get out, there for keeping the ground warm enough to melt the snow.
Colder today, no sunshine, and plenty of wind, temps will be dropping all week. Mike took my sister, Kat to Eau Claire, to my other sister, Lori's house, and tomorrow morning they will be leaving for Florida, Lori's oldest son Matt, lives there. Dennis, Kat's hubby went along too, but is legally blind and can not drive if it is cloudy or dark. I went to visit Mom, until they came back. Long day, but helped Mom a bit, and put some puzzles together, she said they were easy, I have a hard time putting puzzles together even if they have 12 pieces, all parts have shapes, and color codes outlines.

I did check on Ebay to see what the value of Wesley Dennis prints were, around 8-12 dollars each, but a hold set will bring over 100, better if they are sold separately. I just seen what asking price is, didn't look if they were selling.
Sadie jumped on my snowmand and its head fell off. Not a pretty scene...at least it is not a crime scene.
Steer dressed out at 850 pounds. Very tall hostein over 2yrs but not 3 yet. Our steers are the only thing were do butcher, pigs too, but everything else is safe. They all have a wonderful life, until that last second. And I do not eat meat, but not egg is safe from me, unless its hatching season.
Not as warm as yesterday, but a 30 some degree in late January, I will take. Driveway was very icy, rained a bit and then froze, like glaze ice. So I cleaned out chicken coop, took 7 heaping loads of sawdust/wood chips/sand and hay out, wanted it for flower beds, but spread it on driveway, where Mike walks, and in front of both garage doors. Took last 2 and dumped them where I noticed a heat leak coming from under the outdoor stove/furnace. We are going to dig it up come spring, not loosing water, just heat. So I will still get the benefit from the sawdust.

Mother Natures "extra" generous today, sunshine, low winds and temps up in the 40's. Mike and Mikey went to pick up the meat from a steer we had butcher about 2 weeks ago. Divide it 5 ways so everyone has meat for the year. He left early, so I had plenty of time to get work done, washed clothes, cleaned bathroom, even swept "all" the floors, and basement too. Messy little guinea pig. Around noon, I went outside and made a snowman, snow was actually packing.....not the biggest snowman, I had no one to challenge me to see how big we can make the snowman. Walked the banks, which are about 5-6 ft now, and nearly fell in, because snow has not froze solid yet. Carried hay in for the rabbits, and caught my loose rabbit, only to make sure she ate good today, since I know the chickens swipe her apples and celery, they leave her carrots along, but eat the cooked potatoes. Chickens are worst than pigs, and alot faster. Mike came home around 1:30, we put 3 peoples meat in our freezer, and then left to get corn and feed. Got a few groceries, mostly oatmeal and carrots....I am sure I seen those on "someone's" list. Still warm outside, but windy. I hope Mother Nature does not have any "tricks" up her sleeves, giving us 40 degrees one day then drop it to 20 below the next....but that sounds just like her.

I know what you mean, about "Holding on to things, and not sure why you saved them". I have cards my kids gave me before they could even write their names. I see them at that age, when I reread the cards, many are homemade by them or even the grandkids. Today, I found prints (23 of them) by Wesley Dennis of Marguerite Henry's 'Album of Horses. Copy rite 1952.
I know someday, everything will all be just thrown away, perhaps I will beat them to it, because I know they will just say that I was a hoarder to save things they made or gave me.
Mother Nature really dressed all the trees in their finest silvery dresses, foggy all day but very beautiful. We went to help Mikey water the calves then got a load of firewood, last one that Joe could cut until snow goes down a bit.

Chicken love to eat the snow off my boots. And we got plenty of snow since yesterday, but hard to say how much, I have 3 foot drifts, and other spots bare. One drift is past the doorknob of the chicken coop. News report, (local) said 10-12 inches...I just know all my trails are gone, and banged my head 2 times while in the geese/duck pen, because snow is getting deep inside.
Did more sorting out, but looks like I just created a bigger mess, trying to get all my charms, chains, and stuff to make hemp jewerly all organized. Lots of beads.

Yep, came home with some wooden spoons which I already had ideas of painting them up and making them look like flowers with faces and glue on petals of some sort. Took down my tree and Christmas decorations today. I like leaving some of the "winter looking stuff" up.
That winter storm had lots and lots of chances to miss us, was calling for it to start 10 pm "last" night, didn't start until 10:30 this morning, but we did get dumped on about 8-9 inches, but hard to be sure because the winds are still blowing, at least 3ft right in front of the chicken coop door. which the chickens loved, because as soon as I did get the door open, they all ran to eat the snow, not sure why I bother with carrying water to them. They must believe me when I tell them it is "ice cream". Drifts are bad, and could not even see the barn most of the afternoon, by tomorrow it should be better.

Insurance companies can sure be a pain. Did Scott do some of the same excerises at home??
Long day yesterday, did not get back home until after 9:45, left everyone a vote, but not comments. It was nice my sons and families could come. Little Ryder was the hit of the day. Laughing now and said awake the whole time. Ate pizza and crab salad, cheese/crackers and of course cookies. Everyone liked their gifts, which was mostly $$$, and a little small gift like a book or candles. They left at 3:30, I did chores, and watered, by 4:15 we were on our way to Mom's. Bingo was fun, Mike came home a "winner" I thing. He got candy, laundry soap, candles, and a pink purse....he called it his man purse.
Tomorrow were have snow storm warnings 8-12 inches, but temps still in the 30's. I can handle that.
