It is nice out this morning, rained, well poured so hard coming home, (55 miles) from gradation party, that cars were pulling off the road. Our windows were open at home, and we wanted to go to Mass at 4, so we just slowed down to a fast crawl, and 10 miles from home, it was not raining at all, so closed windows, and went to another Mass at 4:30, glad we did...a beautiful guitar Mass, singing was so good. Started raining while I was doing chores, and getting everyone in for the night. Thunder and lightening was powerful, and again rained. My feed tubs had at least 3 inches in them......and lots of mud again.

I am also tired of Mistit, keeping her baby to herself. I have read up on all the signs, some I see, like the "A" shaped looking down at her belly, it is pulling downwards, to look like a pear, her muscles near her hips are not soft yet, now does she like me to move he tail straight upward....it should be loose feeling. Her bag does not seem hard enough yet, although, some horses do not bag up with milk until the last minute or second. I am going by what cows do, and what I have read. Not experience. I am tired because I check her at around 11-12 each night, get up in the middle of the night to go out there, then early morning, and by it is time to "really" get up, I sure can sleep good. :)

Sorry, I did not get to finish voting yesterday morning. It seems like always one more job. Then my son brought my grandson, Dominic down, who is 12, and always hungry. So I started making him breakfast, of fried potatoes and bacon. We went to brush the rabbits, and still working on Auroa's tangles....have to cut her fur down to the skin, since she is a long haired bunny and this spring got into cockburrs, and her whole body was one big mess. It is very sloooooooooooooooow work, 1/4 inch snips at a time. I think I found her tail. :)

Gosh, what a pain to geld a crypt stallion. I've never heard that a crypt horse has worse behavior than a regular stallion, but now that you mention it, a lot of people with them have reported pretty bad behavior. Interesting.

Did you enjoy being our Horse of the Day?? I sure hope you shared your treats, or that would have been a big belly ache for you.
No baby yet, from what I read, signs are all there. No milk dripping, but her bag is not real hard yet. It's just that dates, but the woman is good at keeping records, raises minis for show. And she said her stallion was taken out at the end of last June, but was in the pen next to "his ladies". Just have to wait......and wait....still waiting. :)

Whew! I'm worn out from this sun and heat. I made the trip to Waco and picked up my rescue horse, which I named Zortea (meaning lucky), from a kill pen headed to slaughter. He stayed at a nearby stable for one month of quarantine before I brought him home. He had a hoof abscess that seemed to get worse on the ride back to Houston. I had to pack it for a few days. He's still limping slightly on it so I won't be able to ride him for awhile. We also brought Sherry's Whiskey back for a stay here at Cross Creek until she gets her barn back up. Lots of changes here and more work! I love spending time watching the herd get used to one another. I still haven't turned them all out together because of Zor's sore hoof. I don't want him running around trying to protect himself. Whiskey is a love. He's been ridden by 2 riders here and they both love him. You can tell he wonders why we just go around and around in the arena instead of out on the trail. lol. I posted pics of me with Cheryl & Sherry with Whiskey as we met at the quarantine barn. The others are Zortea. I had 2 of my students groom him so that is one of the pics. He is 15 hands, chestnut, has white hairs along his cheeks but no other markings. His left eye has an old injury so it's bashed in at the top. He's very wary and would move away every time I tried to catch him. That's changed as I carry Mrs Pastures cookies in my pockets and when he finally comes around he gets one. Yesterday I could walk up to him in the turn out pen without him running off. I do a lot of that, then just pet him so he doesn't think it always means work when I come up to him.

Come visit me, Sing and Herd!.

Congrats to Mystic on her HOTD win! I saw the video of Steve working her and she was really pretty, striking with her few white spots on her dark bay coat.
So glad the horses love their buns and that it makes a good transport for Jazz's pill. Gotta stay a step ahead of them, lol. Sounds like y'all are gonna be busy with fencing projects, but it's nice to have new nice fencing up.
We had a break in the heat and it felt so good, but I didn't get to ride, too many phone conversations. I did bring BJ up and trim his feet though and brush him.
Well, gotta get ready for work. Have a great monday.

What are Squeezey buns. I sometimes mix meds with a bit of applesauce, and if they still will not take it, I put it in a large siringle from deworming.

No baby yet. Tried to call the woman, while we were "again" on the way to Eau Claire, to finish up stuff for our grandson. Another long day, but enjoy being with his and his girl. Nearly time to go out and do chores again, but wanted to see if HC was working, wasn't this morning, when I usually have some free time, before doing chores.

Not looking forward to the predicted 120* on Sunday, and it's not even summertime, yet. It's usually hotter here than in Phoenix. Keeping Sadie's water filled, as usual. I was hoping all the thunder storms the last few days would shake something loose in Mistit, to get that foal going outwards. Her bag does seem harder. I hate to ask the former owner, "if" she is positive on her dates, because she seems the type person who might not like to be questioned about something she has already said. I know the vet only was going by the dates I gave him. Her bag did seem solid this morning, and all I can do is wait and then wait some more.

Many, many "moons" ago, when my hubby drank beer, he went out and came home with 7 goats...a story he never lives down. hee hee. Well, he gets gout from beer, so does not drink anymore, but he sure remembers those goats. They were not nice goats at all, no matter how high we made the pen, they would get out. Finally, after 3 years, sold all the babies to one guy, traded 4 goats for a 2 calves, Nixon and Nero, and traded all the rest for hay, so we did OK, but I did say, I would never want another goat, but Blizzard and Zero were nice, just did not fit in with pones that were afraid of them. It was hard at feeding time, because they wanted everything, they would run from chicken pens, to the pigs, to each horse pan, or where ever I heard me with the bucket. It was fun, another lesson learned, the hard way...again.

I hate to question the former owner any more about Mistit's due date. She is very positive about the 3 dates. I just think she might be off a month, her bag is not hard in the back yet. Not soft, but if she is like a cow, the bag will get harder and even drip milk. Most likely, she does not like me watching her all the time.

Scruffy's doing great. He was so good at the Vet's. Had to say hello to everyone there. The vet's assistant was surprised when I told her his 10th birthday is in August. She thought he was 2. She said he's in great shape. He's an over aged puppy. Lol. Sadie 's pretty, nosy butt's doing well, too.... Busy work weekend, again. Longer hours next weekend. Will vote when I can. Yes, we had light frost yesterday morning. We have had frost in nearly ever month, once on the 4th of July, we had to leave the park early to go cover the garden, and sit with blankets on us, as we watched the local parade. No, baby yet. A week ago, the vet said it would be at least a week to 10 days yet. The former owner, was so positive on her breeding dates. It was in July, that Mistit hurt her stifle joint. She does not seem uncomfortable, but sometimes I see her tail switching back and forth, or looking at her belly. Yesterday, she was rolling a few times. Pickles, now is a different story. He did not seem sore after the second or third day. But, he is back to being "catch me if you can" attitude. Today, I put him in the pen, and lead him back and forth to the pasture, of course he wants to run, but I zig zag back and forth, to make him slow down, but then here comes the goats, under the fence, running straight to us, and Pickles took off. Well, another bad habit I just taught him.

The mini flood in the living room was caused by the hubby, who was playing weatherman, again. Sure hope he does not take it up as a living. Same guy, who said was not going to freeze last night. Good thing I covered tomato plants, there was frost this morning, frost but no baby.
Ponies staying in at night so they can lay where it is dry and warm, sure is making a messy in the back of shed. This morning, "someone" decided to empty the barrel of empty feed bags, pull down another bale of hay, tip over water buckets, and I am sure they tried to let the rooster out of the rabbit hutch.
