Hope your Thanksgiving was great!!
Mother Nature must have out did herself today. It hit 54, all most T-shirt weather. I took advantage of it too.
Moved Lilly over to Jennifer's barn with the rest of the calves, had no problems loading her, but she jumped down off the trailer and then limped for a long time. She sure wanted to investigate all the pasture. We did lock her in with them and later went back to check on her. There she will beable to get outside and also inside if weather is bad. Because once we line the back door with haybales, it will be closed for the winter. The bottom lets too much cold air into the back of our shed. While Mike, Dominic and his Dad, Joe, cut up the vension, I cleaned the shop out. Took little guineas out and now have them in the coop...separate little room, if or when it gets cold, I have a heat lamp ready. So had to clean out their water tank which was their home. Next cleaned out 2 rabbit cages, and moved them in the back of the shed. Without Lilly, I can make hay houses around the cages. Swept and moved things around so now there is lots of room. Most of it is boards, that just needed to go back where they belong. Such a beautiful day, hope tomorrow is the same, but I think today was a rare thing.

I hope everyone had something....more than one thing....to be thankful for. We certainly do have a lot of blessing.
Mother Nature, "finally" decided to play nice. Sunshine and warm, well, seen 37 this afternoon, and not wind.
Dinner went great, Mike peeled potatoes, turkey was done right on time 11, so it had time to stand for a bit before everyone started coming around 11:30. Dominic helped set table and put out pickles, napkins, cheese, raw veggies and dip, but he forgot the coleslaw. 2 could not make it, so Jennifer took food home to them, and enough for her and Mike for tomorrow. Still have plenty of leftovers. Total of 10, Joe brought an old guy whose land he hunts on. My Dad uses to play horseshoes with him on a league.
While Mike took his 2 o'clock nap early, I let out chickens, Lilly and guinea hens went out earlier, and so did the horses. Worked in the chicken coop, put down another bag of woodchips, and changed a few roost, set up a old pair of sawhorses, and put boards across. Hopefully, the young guinea hens will stop picking on a few chickens, if there is more room to roost. Tonight when they all came in, the hens were thanking me for not inviting them for dinner or to be dinner. :) I like my chicken and they normally die of old age. Happy Thanksgiving...so who's going shopping tomorrow....not me said the "little red hen".

I guess this cold weather has given me the s-l-o-w-s!! Went and did some grocery shopping for things I needed for Thanksgiving dinner. Should be 10 people if no one brings a friend or two. Always enough food. So today make the pumpkin I cooked the other day into pies. Dominic was not here to help, but I it get it down. Made 4 pies and some peanut butter cookies. Cooked up the sweet potatoes, and have them cooked in the oven, with br sugar and butter. Made the stuffing or dressing, and turkey is all ready to go in the oven about 7 tomorrow morning. Last night, I was working on saving a few more horses from Ryons Rescues Pen (its on Facebook), but everyone ships in what they can to help save the horses. I donated for 2 of them, in fact one of the girls working to give it a home, was a girl I knew yrs ago. I only had enough to give 10 dollars to each horse. But while working on that I just did not keep an eye on the time. So I had the votes in already, and did not have time to say anything.

Have a whole 5qts of pumpkin puree, all ready for pies. Made some pumpkin pudding, same as pie but not crust, for supper, and tried a bowl of some cubes. Very good taste, some times they taste too young. This one was so big, cut in half filled a oven rack, and then other half went on the bottom.
Very windy today, but not rain or snow. Someplaces got up to near 40. 34 was the tops I seen But tomorrow is the start of colder temps again. Rich and Leslie, and their 2 kids, Camille and Richard are heading home tonight from Arizona, told the kids to pack all the warm air into their suitcase to bring home with them.

Another very windy and cold day, but guess what...Mr. Sun is actually still alive, because he made a brief a very brief showing today. Dominic can shot a doe yet this season, but we do not hunt does, because we have so few of them on our land. 6 does and fawns come out daily. Neighbors do not seem to care what they shoot, but we are trying to build our herd up. A few yrs ago we only had 1 or 2 does, so slowly it is coming up.
Went to Mom's today (always meet up at Mom's on Sunday for a few hours) and my brother had just come home from Alaska. It was good to see him and of course lots of pictures of his 3 kids and grandkids. They were here this summer, but he did retire early because of his hands being so bad. His 10 day visit will seem short.

If Steve ever runs out of rocks, tell him to come and get ours, bring about a dozen semi(s), because we could fill them up plus still have too many.
Most of the schools close down for hunting season, well, its only 3 days until Thanksgiving. Yep, Dominic got a buck around 2 this afternoon. I was at my craft sale my sister puts on at a local bar in Hawkins. He sent me a text message, and I told him I would do a happy dance for him. Just got home from Church went his Dad pulled in the driveway.....Dominic nearly dragged me out of the car so I could see his deer. I told him just pure luck....at least he laughed and made some comment about a lot more than luck.
Came home from the sale with some homemade jewerly, made out of recycled copper wire. Very different, I did not buy any for myself, 1 bracelet to sent to a friend for Christmas, and butterfly made out of wires, and a deer head out of copper wires, sort of like for a key chain.....Tristan snatched that up. Also won the door prize, a 4 ft high snow bird, sort of nice, but my sister said my Mom liked it, so guess who gets it.

Her shop is in a old stock sale barn, and I think it is called Cowboy Auctions now or something like that near Cleveland, Tx. is that near you.
We have had a whole month or 6 weeks of that same junk. Cold, windy and wet, and now watch December be like 75 and sunny....just like the song goes. Mother Nature is on one of those can not decide what she wants to next. Temps are 31-34 raining one minute, snowing and sleeting next time I go out. Needless, to say, I am glad I have a back up jacket. Winds are bad again.
Peeled and sorted carrots, most of the morning. School got out early so we had to pick up Dominic. Hunting season starts tomorrow for the gun deer season....most guys and girls too, think it is a Holiday. Tristan is here sleeping over so he can get out in the stand early morning.

November is not know for it's "sunny side", we hardly ever see the sun in November. Cold and windy today. Went shopping for a few things at Walmart, seen half of Hawkins in the store. Came home and Mike had did check one of the pipes upstairs and let more air into the pipes, which blocks the water, so we had to do it all over again. Told him, I was going to slap his fingers if I see him heading upstairs with the flashlight and screwdriver again.
Mistic is not with Lilly yet, still working on making her a pen inside, but also a way to take her out daily, to get outside, since the big door in back will be locked and small square bales of old hay lining the bottom and partly up the sides. So if she is inside will have to walk her threw the shop and into the small out side pens. Not sure why but I always seem to run out of time.

Another foggy rainy, damp, day temps are at least in the 30's, so not bad outside. Put down a huge bag (like the biggest black garage bag) of wood shavings in the outside pheasant pen, guineas decided to stay in the back of the barn with Lilly for the winter, but one gal needs a place for her geese and a few ducks, so I told her I had some room. It is a log cabin type of house with a large fence in area, with a fencing on top too.
Shipped 2 boxes of spare tack to a friends small tack shop in Texas, so hopefully, they get there in one piece. They are insured. Well, break time is over....thats Mike's lunch hour, and I have to get back outside to help water and dig out the rest of the carrots.....horses and rabbits will eat good for awhile.

I am sure this "winter Christmas look" with disappear and then reappear many many times before the real Christmas comes....perhaps we will have a brown Christmas. Today it was foggy nearly all day, even at 4 when I went out to make sure all the chickens and guineas were in, because so foggy I could not see out to the coop.
Went to get old hay bales from Mikey and Jennifer's barn. Brought them a bag of grain for the calves. The one I called Panada, sure is nice looking and big. Worked on getting heat up stairs today. When we installed a heat exchanger about 2-3 yrs ago, we lost the prime for the upstairs, I think we may have figured it out.....we will see tomorrow. Pipes were getting warmer. If so, I will finally get a chance to clean and sort all the totes and boxes, usually it has been cold, so I just put a tote up there and never have time to put things where they belong. Lots of horse statues, and Christmas or seasonal things.

Today it was cloud, but warm at least ...if you call 23 warm, but had no wind. Mike put in 3 more round bales, it bothers me that we have started so early feeding hay. Usually at the end of Noverber, or 3rd week sometimes, but we started the 28th of October. Chickens, guinea hens, and Lilly got to go out, while we moved the one pen outside, and set up a pen for Lilly, at least now she will not be getting into the square hay bales. Never really got sunny out, but once in a great while, Mr. Sunshine would take a peak at us. We went and got more corn and also whole corn for the deer. The 18th starts deer hunting season, with rifles, it was bow season. I know it is still 10 degree below normal, but it does feel good outside. Put strings on the rest of the lid ornaments that Dominic had painted and hung them outside on small trees, still have more to paint, and decorate another little tree.

Tomorrow is Mike's VA breakfast, today he had to go an peel potatoes. Got home just in time to go to Church. Dominic and I paint old canning jar lids, put sparkles and other jewel type decorations, but first he punch a hole so we could put a small string string to hang them on the outside trees. Have not decided if it will be the small Christmas tree he brought out of the woods about 5 yrs ago, regular "Charlie Brown" tree, or the small maple that he planted seeds when he was about 5....had a whole handful, and now there are 2 or 3 trees sort of growing together. It is a small burgundy maple, they grow wider than tall. He helped me hang up a metal designed hanger, has 2 horses on, which his Dad had made me for last Christmas, he had painted it a few weeks ago.

Have any extra heat send it our way. Got up to around 18 today, wind chills were below zero. Very bad gus of winds, like 25 mph. and of course it would blow right up under my jacket. Back to adding a belt over my jacket. Feel sorry for the horses and steers having to walk threw the mud to get to the hay feeders. Usually, we still have them out on pasture, do not lock them in until after Thanksgiving. Already fed 3 bales, so I sure hope we will have enough hay. At least all the farmers had plenty if we have to buy some, it's just the cost, because I certainly do not have any extra $$. Tomorrow suppose to be the same.
Made beans today from scratch, so that will be baked beans, and been soup. Also did up some pumpkins, only 2 and I had 10 cups. Have about 20 more pumpkins to go. Took my cranberries, straight off my uncles cranberry marsh, cooked them with some of Mom's apples and made cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving and Christmas, have 7 pints and one quart jar. Made peanut butter cookies with Reese Peanut M & M style, but will not bake them until tomorrow morning to help heat the house. Better than last yrs, barely could get the temps up to 55, well at least now we have 65. Something is wrong with the thermostat out on the outdoor stove.

I feel like we never had summer, only a few days got up to 80. That's the part of winter I do not like, having to get dress up to go outside. Then come in, only to get redress 10 minutes later, it goes on like that all day. come in long enough to get warmed up.
Carrots and apples are the best treats, even the rabbits and guinea pigs enjoy them. But that reminds me I still have carrots left to dig out of the garden.
Today a woman came and brought 4 little guinea keets from me. So I figured I might as well take the babies and MaMa out of the calf hutch, and put all the little ones together in the stock tank, with heat and cover the top (I use crib bed rails) then use a large rug to top it off, to keep the heat in. MaMa had to go back to her own group in the back of the shed.
Still cold, should get down to 4-5 tonight, temps today did not get much above 22-24, didn't check too much. Peeled more apples, and took the peels out for a treat for Whisper, Mistic and Willow, of course Jack had to have his share. And so did Red and Little Black....but he is not so little any more. Nearly a 5 gallon bucket full.

Sorry everyone did not get a comment yesterday. Left the house around 10:30 to do shopping before meeting everyone at GrPa's Pizza to honor Dave on his birthday. Good Pizza, good company. Got back to Hawkins, to late to get home and too early for Mass/Church. So we stopped at Mom's for a quick visit. Went back today for our usually Sunday visit. Have to go back to Ladysmith tomorrow to pick up her pills. Going to be cold so she did not want to go along. This coming week temps are not going to get too high and lows, hate to say it around 0-4. Glad I have nearly everything ready for winter. Still have to figure out about where the baby guinea keets will go. Selling 4 on Tuesday, so that makes 3 plus the 9 with the Mom, thinking maybe into the water tank with a heat lamp at night. Then cover the grates with my horse blanket. Have to figure out if Mistic goes under the lean-to or not. She will only have Lilly for company.

Not such a bad day outside, sunny but still cold. Brought in pumpkins and squash that were hiding in the garden weeds, will have to start cooking them up and freezing the pulp soon. Walked fence, then let out the horses, fun to watch them run and kick up their heals. Mistic even enjoyed the running around. Cleaned out the chicken coop of the hay I put in about a month ago, packed it around the outside, hoping to keep out any drafts, it will also double as compost because I have flowers and sunflowers growing around the coop. Took the young chickens and put them inside the coop from their pen, had to do this after chickens were roosting....it will be surprise, surprise tomorrow morning. Went to pick up Dominic after school so he can spend the night and go with us tomorrow to GrPa's Pizza for Dave's birthday....it would be his birthday tomorrow, he passed away 5 yrs ago, but we still celebrate his birthday and eat pizza. Rich will be coming from Wausau, Tristan and Maya and can not forget baby Ryder, Joe and Holly from Phillips, and Mikey and Jennifer. Mikey did go for his appointment and they did scope(s) of his heart and will have 1 more appointment then in Dec. do "something". Our "high" to day was around 24 but I did see 27 as we went to pick up Mikey's pills from Phillips, Tomorrow Mike has an appointment in Eau Claire, which is about 90 miles or so. Cit where Tristan lives, but because he works nights and sleeps day, not sure if Mike can stop. Hope it is warmer a bit tomorrow. Need to take guinea hen and her young ones out of the calf hutch and into a inside pen with heat. My mind is not ready for this cold, wet and now snow. It is blowing out very hard, so that makes me feel cold....Mother Natures version of Mind Games. North of us near the lakes, calling for up to 10 inches, here about 3-5, if all the rain we received all threw the night was snow, we would be snowed in. :)
Pellet stoves burn small bits of hard or soft woods, a bit bigger in size of a alfalfa pellet in the horse feed. Small area in front that the pellets are fed into and thats where the fire is, also fan blows the heat out. Sliding door on top moves forward, so pellets can be dumped in. Holds about 20-25 pounds. Nearly all stores sell pellets, but we brought a ton, from one of Joe's friends. Saves about 30-40 dollars that way. We just are going to use it as back up heat or when its 30 below outside.
Good news, Mikey got out of hospital tonight. They looked into his heart today with camera, and said one valves is leaking, and next Friday will fixing it with heat seal. Also where his pancreas goes into large intestine, it leaks, but tissue so fragile, there they might just leave it.
Allie sounds like she is starting to remember more and more.

Poor Mikey, he said last night his numbers were all looking good, today, blood was so low that they might have to give him more. Life sucks, is what he said. Been waiting nearly all day for them to draw blood.
I was so windy here today, do not have any leaves, except for a few "die-hards on the trees. Winds were up to 45-50 mph, and with temps no higher than 38-39 it was cold. Went to help pick up apples from my Mom's trees, even after filling up 4 5gal buckets and a tote, and my brother had a whole tote, plus, the wind was still blowing them off the tree.
Had to put in a round bale tonight for steers and horses, and I am sure they welcomed it. Wish the area around the feeders was not so muddy.
