Yeah, like today I was supposed to ride the ground was halfway dry and I had my side projects done then I woke up to sheets of rain. It seems mother nature does not understand that next week is my last week here till I go back to SFA. So I only have so much of anytime horse ride till it's limited to a weekend here and there and school breaks.

Oh, 100% it gets annoying. Give my horse two days off because of work and it's suppose to rain but then no when I'm working it's the sunshine and when I'm off it's freaking raining. And then school teachers advise having "you time" to relieve stress. Well, it's hard to have riding time to get rid of stress when you're piling all the homework and college exams back to back.

Working at cutting down brush and weeds/thistles today. Wish Mike would have brought a brush cutter years ago....think of all that time I wasted trying to cut down, spray and pull those weeds.

Well, I thought we were going into the 20th Century too, but the cost of the hot water on demand, was way too much, so we just got a plain old hotwater heater....but it works. It was so simple just to turn on the tap and take a bath. I forgot how nice it was. At least we did not have to pump it from a well, with the old fashion hand pumps. Had to do that all the time I was growning up. Thought everyone did that, and only the school had faucets, and bathrooms. Ha was I wrong.
100 bales of hay, well, "if" Lillie can not eat that much, I just might beable to sneak in a little mini fellow. He should be weaned from MaMa, and I been hoping I can fit him in my napsack, or maybe a gunny sack.
We had rain all day, so I still have soaked socks. Left the light on in the shed so that means one more trip.

Nope I can't do short horses and I'm 5'3, I have to have tall horses lol 15HH is the shortest I can do! On humid days I feel like I need a mounting block at times. The muggy air makes me jeans tighter which makes it harder for me to lift and reach the stirrups and of course, Bayou will take a couple of steps forward when I'm just right there putting my foot in. It's like no Bayou this is not the right time to do that right now thank you.

Ho, Ho, Ho...if I fired the one who planted the weeds, I would be the #1, suspect. :)
We went before 6 to start bring home the bales, got 3 truck loads so around 110 bales. Nice young hay, and Lillie had so much fun rubbing her little horns on them, until she knocked 2 of them down. By the time I moved all the cages back, (not in the original place) she was having fun just bucking and running around. Had to put up some gates to keep her in the back of the shed near the door. Still have not figured out how to close that big door at night without having to crawl up and over everything.

Make sure you get some pictures of that little mare.
Once again, tying to get some quick votes in before bed time. Have to get hay bales, (small squares) early tomorrow morning. Just up the road and around the corner neighbor. It was at one of his sister's parties that I met Mike, the guy is also Mike's relation. Only getting about 100, but it will be enough for Lilly, plus will use it to close off the back door for the winter. Ugh, hate the thought of winter, but it seems like everything we do, is always planned for the winter, like planting a garden, to be canned up for next winter or picking berries for next winter's jelly, and making hay for next winter. Seems no way around that season, I just wish it was not so long.

That little mare sounds just the right size. Hopeful, she will be the one, the perfect horses, if not, well, she is just my size....hint, hint.
Later Friday afternoon vote. Mike and our son Rich, put the hot water heater in today. My cousin, came over and did the electrical hook up, so about 2 hours later we had hot water. Have not had any since about January. Dominic and I moved the guinea keets to the big stock tank out in the barn, (of course there is no water in it... :)) Now they will have more room. The rest of the afternoon, I weed whipped weeds around the rabbit cages, and guinea pen, still not done, ran out of string on 2 weed whippers.

Few minutes to leave votes, not much going on. Raining on and off, so cleaning up basement, well, just putting things back, where they should have been put the first time. When it was not raining Dominic and I were cleaning out flower beds, and wondering who planted all the weeds. Checked out baby trees, he help plants the last few years. Most are hidden in side flower or plants clumps, to help protect them from the sun and other things Mother Nature wants to throw this way.

Yesterday the weather was nice, but did rain here and there coming home. Wish I could send you some cool weather.
Came home late last night, long ride over 3 hours each way. My gray guinea hen yesterday decided to start nesting, so this morning, I slipped eggs under her. Usually they lay about 30 eggs, then decide to set. I have been taking them away, when she got a big build up of eggs, and now gave her fresh ones from the last 2-3 days.
Missed our Mass yesterday so went to 8 o'clock Mass in a different church this morning. Have to start cleaning house now, seems like I mess up more things getting ready to go someplace.

Long deary day, cold rain....well, cold for summer. Looked for a baby crib mattress today, at a furniture close out sale, and no one in town sells them. So have to go to a bigger city or town.
Do not think I will even have time to get on the computer tomorrow, leaving early to go to a family reunion about 4 hours away. I hate going, long ride of sitting, and then more nothing to do once we get there. I need to be kept busy, like the horse with out a job just gets into trouble.

Have you been dry too?? You would think all the rain we had "before" some of it would still be left, but we are dry too, until today.
Sending you some "cool, wet, rainy, breezy weather" for you to enjoy. If it was not so cold, highs in the 40's, I surely could enjoy it more. Rained nearly all day, sometime a real down pour. Went to pick up the hot water heater at Menards today, about 100 miles one way and had to take lots of detours, for once I am glad. Found a 3pt hitch brush cutter for sale, and figured if we did not buy the water softener today, we would have enough to buy it....so to me a cleaner pasture is more important than hard water, which we have had for 30 yrs already a month or so, will not make much difference. Selling so much at the swap, really gave us some "wiggle room" on spending.
Coming back we stopped in Ladysmith to pick up milk, so I ran into St. Vinny or Goodwill, type of store called Connections. They had children's clothes for 25 cents and that was not a misprint. Brought about 20 items for Tristan and Maya new baby, all are nearly like new. Some are so cute. Did not pick many newborn items, because they outgrow them so fast. All and all, it was a good day, even if I did get soaked a few times. All I could think about was , now those weeds will come out easier.

It is hot here too, and we really could use some rain. The corn really shot right up. Been very busy lately, moving the round bales in, try to do it in the early morning, so far about 1/3 of them are in. There were 43 of them, Mike counted them and only found 41, but for got to check behind the rock pile, which is so huge, it hid 2 bales. Yep, selling those guinea babies really helped, usually I have to paid Dave, who baled the hay, in 3 or 4 payments. So having an extra 300 was a big help.
I took the newly hatch keets out of the incubator late yesterday, have 41 plus the one little chicken. All do good so far, but in a few days will have to divide them, so not so crowded. They grow fast, but so cute. Lots of pied, dark and white, but mostly dark, which is good, because the light ones can get easily picked off at night.

First Thanks for Willow vote the other day when she won HOTD. Good thing, Dominic, had hunter safety class on Saturday, because he is "bad influence" on me.....or maybe its the other way around. I did find some doves, and as soon as I can build the kind of cage I want and they need, I will get a pair. Told Mike, he can start practicing for the nursing home, because they have finches in bird avasary in the nursing homes around here.
I did sell all my guinea hen babies, 24 of them most of them went for 8 dollars each, and the 6 littler ones, which a woman wanted, and I thought she was coming to the swap, but she didn't, so I did sell them too for 6 dollars each. And guess what, get home to a incubator hatching our more little ones. I like handling them each everyday, so they get tamer. Really, they are a wild bird, and has been domestic, but you sure can tell they were wild. Even in the incubator, they try to hide and run away if you even look in the window. We did get all the hay baled. When we got home, the "Good Fairies" were already working on it. The guy that bales, knew that we could not be there on Saturday, so as he went by checked it to see how dry it was, and then went home got the siderake, and raked it into windrows, just as we got home he was starting to bail it. I was really surprised when the Banker told me I made 293 dollars, of course spent 100 at Farm Fleet, for chick starter, (what else), flea meds and collars, and parts for our siderake. Got 41 bales at 8 dollars each, plus sideraking so there goes all my dollars. But at least it will be nearly enough.

Your back pain is catchy.
Well, we finally got our hay cut yesterday, should be ready to bale on Saturday, if Joe's back feel well enough to help siderake, he went home right after opening up the 3 fields and doing the backswat. He has been on light duty at work, and went to the chiro. this morning, before work.
Most farmers can get 2 cuttings and even 3, we are lucky to get 1. It's hard when you do not have the equipment to work with. Mike is thinking of lease out our fields in exchange for hay. But then there goes my fall pastures. Our pastures need redoing, and hay field need working up again. Mike does not want to stick any $$$ into them, and I barely make enough selling chicks to cover the cost of raising them.

Nothing worst than a backache, we keep frozen jell-pads in the freezer.
We have been getting light rain since last night. Just enough to keep me out of the garden.....not that I mind. Weeds seem to grow fast than I can pull them.
The one little chick is still in the incubator, been thinking of stealing one of the chicks from the hen outside. She has 5 but most of her's are guinea keets. They can stay in the incubator up to 3 days, because they live off the yolk and do not need to eat or drink for about 3 days, that is why hatcheries can ship live baby chicks.

The little guy is due end of September. She will have a baby shower August 19th. We have not know that long ago, but I knew something was wrong with him, just the way he sounded and talked. Afraid to tell us, because he did not want his parents to know....yet, he said he would call them after the baby was born from the hospital. He does not alway get along with his Dad, because of Joe's temper, and he sure did not get that from me. Tristan has always been able to talk to me, even if it was nasty or bad, I was always the person he went to when he wanted to talk.
Here is a Monday vote on Tuesday, as usual late and getting later. Never seem to have enough time. Opened the yellow incubator this morning to turn the eggs, and I had a chick....Wow big surprise, because these were suppose to be guinea eggs, and not due for another 6 days. Somehow I must of stuck a chicken hen in there, poor thing never had any lockdown time. Now, what to do with a single chick, besides enjoy the little thing.

Have to read to the end....
I think some of the calves are twins or "free-martins", and usually they can not be bred. But don't think all of them were. Lilly does not have any more infection in her fetlock joint. Looks a bit bigger than other one, but she runs on it, infact she runs way to fast when I was trying to catch her the other night. Still I check it out daily, making sure no infection gets started again.
We have to buy a water softener first because our water is terrible....very hard water with iron and other minerals. Then we plan on getting a hot water heater, "hot water demand" But first we have to save up enough to buy them. Seems like something is always breaking down or needing fitting here. Truck needed 4 tires put on, lucky thing my brother had 4 he was trying to get rid of, and they just fit. Car had a flat tire, and needs the muffler replaced.
We have been supporting Tristan for the past yr while he went to linesman school, graduated, and had a job, but could not pass his physical because of a shoulder injury he got while wrestling in highschool. Finally he found a job, in the electrical department at Menards, not the best, but it pays and soon he said he can take over the bills.....BUT, now we found out his girlfriend is excepting, but I told him he did not make any mistakes that has not been made many times before. So now I will be a great grandma. :) Still smiling.

Hot today, cut berry pick off early. Had to take feed to the other 4 calves at Jennifer's and Mikey's barn. Sure have grown some and getting fatter.
Just finishing up a few things outside, and now its nearly time to get ready for Church/Mass. Feel like taking a cool bath, well, since we do not have hot water, unless I heat it on the stove, like I do for dishes.
Still have not caught the fox, nor even seen him, so guineas and chickens do not get to go out when I am not outside with them. I know it is the same fox that has been seen around other neighbors, about a 1 or so away....maybe someone else took care of it. Hope so, because if I live trapped it, I would have to take it far, far, far away.....maybe send him to my brother in Alaska. :)

Sorry, I have not written many comments lately. Just been busy. Glad to hear you are getting some time with the horses even if it is short. Been hot here and dry, but in the southern part of Wisconsin they have floods, Mother Nature just does not want to share, gives it all or nothing. Gardens weeds are growing "overtime", hard for me to keep up. Dominic has been here last few days, and I forgot how much growing boys can eat. But he works hard, just helping me out. Trimming trees, and of course always cleaning or remaking something. Going threw tack to take to the swap, now with out the rescues babys, I use to have, I certainly do not need 10 leather halters, I always sent horses to their new home with a rope, a halter and a leather halter too. If they were kids, then a book about horses, sometimes stuffed toy horses, a bucket of brushes, and things the horse would need. Getting dark and still need to count the guinea hens and lock them up. Babies are all growing and eating good. Have two hens that each hatched out 5 keets and I did give them some chicks too. Plus I have 5 of each in the house, still in MaMa grade, so need the light yet, plus incubators are full.

Here it is nearly 10pm, and I am just eating supper. I need a break. Been picking raspberries, weeding the garden, carrying out 5 gallon buckets of weeds for the chickens and guineas to pick threw. Finished cleaning up the calf pens, and moved little keets, baby guinea hens, out to the next pen. The 29th is the next swap meet and want to have chicks and keets, plus some saddles and tack ready for that.
garden is actually dry, weeds are just breaking off, instead of being pulled out. Been hot and humidity is very high. But this morning was just right, 47 degree
