Are you getting that cold weather and snow?? Heard it on the news, but did not go and look at the TV to see where all this new snow and cold was going.
Was very windy today, temps were up to 20 above put 20-30 mph winds made it feel colder.
Made cookies today, nothing fancy, ch/chip with walnuts, and some crunchy peanut/coconut, and then some ch/chip without nuts for Richard, since he can not have anything "rough", he had a lot of troubles with his stomach when he was smaller, he is 10 now. Don't get to see him or his sister, Camille because they live in Wausa

What a nice surprise this morning after it started getting light out, Mother Nature, Jack Frost, and Mr. Sun really outdid them selves....looked like a Christmas card, sparkling new snow, frost on all the trees, and actually "above" zero. Was below when we went to bed at 10, must have warmed up threw the night. Snowed a couple of inches. I went and left a pattern of circles all over the lawn. Felt like making a snow angel. Our drive to Phillips was so pretty too, 20 miles of just frosted trees and sunshine.
Going to bake tomorrow for our Christmas and birthday get together on Saturday the 20th. Also that evening will get together with my brother and sisters for Mom's 92 birthday. We all will play Bingo with white elephant gifts. Everyone cheats and trys to make the others win bingo. Lots of fun, but some of those gifts you don't dare just open up....never can tell what someone wrapped up. Most are very funny. Mom enjoys it too, I think she even trys to get bingo.

Drs both told Mikey that this is a major surgery, and he is not quite not ready for it. Has to watch his INR and blood pressure, not sure if it was just high that day, because his other dr. had just taken him off one of his blood pressure meds.
Still below zero this morning, but got up to 8 or so, warming up a bit each day, but then chance of snow. Snowed nearly all day, but real light. Tomorrow Mike has to take his hearing aid, up to Phillips, in the VA office, woman from Wausau comes there every month. Save us a trip in the cold months.

Mikey talked to 2 different drs, each with different ideas, one said let "it" go for a bit and other wants to put a plug in...not sure what the "it" is, will find out. When he had heart surgery before, they repair/replaced some vavles, and the blood leaks around one valve.
Remember your logic about the cold and horse's brains. I just read this on a posting about Horses Health....
"When my horses get cold, they lose brain cells. They act really dumb. Not sure how to explain it. Just real flighty and Bully which they know better."
Running late tonight, so just leaving a cote and short comments, and of course it is freezing cold again tonight...-19 this morning and barely made 0, but 0 on the plus side. :)

As King Jax, he should "order" better weather, but I would rather have this stuff now, than spring. Let Mother Nature get it out of her system. I like that 70 days until spring that sounded good.
Where the snow was packed down, like the drive way it was icey, but most of the snow was just like "snowball packing snow", then we got new snow on top of that, not like the 6-8 but more like 3-4, hard to tell, because the winds just blew all night. Hard crust on top of the snow now, most places I could walk on top. Was a -8 at 5 tonight. Animals all tucked in for the night. I think the big Cinnamon doe likes being in such a open pen. She comes right up to me when I give her more feed, not that she needs more in her pans, but this morning she got a slice of bread and a carrot, plus had to give her warm water. Each day they get treats, already have their oatmeal and Cheerios mixed for them.

The rabbit somehow got out of the cage after I cleaned it out yesterday. My rabbits are friendly, I was not worried about him. Cats do not bother them either, Sadie will if they run, but he came right up to me this morning, so he is back home. But I did turn the other female loose in the pen where the goat was when she first came, big pen about 15 x 12, I thought about putting all the females in there, they can not get outside, but not sure how they would get along. Her pen is the biggest and messiest. I put the 2 dwarf of Mary's in her pen and moved it to the chicken coop. I have one rabbit running loose in there too....makes the chickens wonder.
Mikey and Jennifer left for Minneapolis about 4 tonight. Weather is turning nasty. Winter storm warnings out, chance of sleet/rain until 1 am, then snow up to 6-8 where they are heading, and we are 8-10. Foggy all day today, went to get more of Mikey's pills, and then a load of firewood. Warm enough today 30's, but then the wind is back. But by Friday back below 0.....from rain/fog/sleet to -10....welcome to Wisconsin weather. Hope yours is better.

Some place far to the south in Wisconsin are calling for rain, we just have a winter storm warnings, can get up to 10-12 inches or 1...big difference. Hope its done by Thursday, Mikey has heart specialist appointment in Minneapolis at Fairview, not sure to find out what they are doing or actually do something.
Today was warm but not like yesterday, I seen 28 around 1, when Mike got home from funeral, the VFW sends its members when it is a veteran's funeral. Cloudy most of the day. Cleaned out another rabbit cage, and somehow forgot to close the door correctly, so tomorrow I will have to catch him. He friendly, so will not take long.....I hope. Cleaned up in chicken coop and put down fresh bedding, have one of my rabbits loose with the chickens. If we have 2 more days of nice weather I will have all the rabbit cages cleaned out.

You will have to give me that web page again for Steve. I was on it once, but did not remember to book mark it.
When I hear 58 gives me hope for spring, wish the whole country had better, at least where they do not need the ice and rain, plus the cold. We do not mind, but that wind sure sucks....but not today.
Hey, it got up to 33 and bright sunshine.
Took my Mom to Ladysmith, first time she was out since 12 of December. We were going so told her to ride along, she seemed to enjoy it. My sister Kat, (Chance's Mom) said they were staying in DC longer, (had planned on starting back today, Monday), because of the sleet & rain tomorrow. Both her girls are teachers, and pipes are broke at school....500 and some students and only 2 working bathroom stalls. So kids were sent home. She might head back on Wednesday....or spring time which ever comes first. :)

Wow!! Suppose to hit a high in the 20's and that is not below either, Mr. Sun decided to make his show up to take the credit, never mind all the praying I do. But then someone had to invite those cold nasty winds "again". Mother Nature can not let some things alone. Hope to get a lot of things done outside without icey cold fingers.
Mike's Mom had a saying, "The South end of a North wind, is colder than the North wind itself." Today I believe it. The few inches of snow we receive is all piled up in the pen where the geese and ducks are. Been giving Cindy Lou warm oatmeal (very wet) with raisins to help her get more water. She doesn't seem to drink enough, but maybe goats don't.

So you might be getting rain tomorrow, I hope we do not see rain until April. Blankets coming off or do you leave them on in the rain too. Will it be one of those cold wet rains??
So in a few days you will beable to just flip your calendar pages, and it will be spring....or at least feel a bit more like spring, now that sure was a nice thought. Too bad Mother Nature doesn't think the same way we do.
I hate watching the news about the weather, it seems so bad. It got up to 12 above today, but oh, that nasty old wind made it feel like -20 or better. Horses were sleeping next to the hay bales like little wind breaks. Tomorrow should be better. Mike has to go down to Eau Claire, to help with Tristan's frozen pipe, the handy guy, Chad, said he thinks there is a broke pipe, and was thawing things out, to see better. Hope it is not too bad. We will see.

I sure know what you mean about not being able to go somewhere to long or too far away, because of the animals. Since Dave passed away, we both can not be gone together. I tell Mike to go since most of the overnight trips are for his side of the family, and he loves to see his brothers. My family comes up to Mom's, so I see them there.
We did get above zero again 6, but winds are bad so it was like -35 sometimes. I bedded down the geese/ducks and the goat Cindy Lou, locked them in earlier that usually. No sun, so it felt colder.
Mike went to Wausau and Weston today, 100 mile each way to take Mikey to dr's appointment. He got home just in time to take Tristan's call that he did not have any hot water just cold in the bathroom, nothing in the kitchen. Wanted him to come and help if he could....100 miles the other way. But Mike called a guy in the trailer court that does odd jobs on the side, to see if he could help Tristan, and he opened some sort of trap door to let warm air where pipes are located, tomorrow he will go back to check with Tristan.
Everything got fresh hay or sawdust chips for bedding today while Mike was gone. Scrubbed living room and area by front door, plus bathroom today, and they needed it, since we blocked off the backdoor to help keep it warmer, I have to carry buckets in and out the front door now.
Tonight again will drop down to nearly -20, but today made it up to 6 above, and of course back come those winds so like -35 sometimes outside. North wind now.

Did you get the deicer figured out, I think that is the same as our tank heaters, so float and others are sinkers, which we build a cage around to keep from burning a hole in the tank.
Hopefully, warmer weather will find you soon. Looks like the whole southern part of US will be getting freezing weather, I sure hope not, we are use to it, and know how to handle the cold, but people without experience will freeze.
-25 this morning, no wind until later. Stayed home all day. Sorted things from upstairs, and put a few Christmas decoration back, just leaving some basic things up.

I hate thinking about all the other people worst off that we are, praying they will be OK, since this cold spell will be lasting at least 3-5 more days. So far everything outside is OK, I watch for any chickens or guineas looking weak, but they have sunflower seeds for fat, cr. and whole corn, plus all flock pellets for vitamins/minerals, all have hay and veggie scraps to munch on. The birds like hay too. Stay warm!!

It's just plain cold all over the place. Best is to just hunker down and stay warm. Make some popcorn and cover up and watch a movie. Our dogs do not even want to stay out long. Are you going out tomorrow for New Years Eve, or was that a silly question to ask.

I guess 20 degree is cold for you, here it is a heat wave.
We had another cold start to the day, but did get up to about zero, not much 4 degree, but with it came the wind and snow. Not sure if I would rather have the below zero and no wind. Yesterday, we had down to -35 with the wind. Suppose to be this cold until next Thursday.
Have to hope for a January thaw, so I can get some of my frozen water rubber pans out of the ice.
I heat a bucket of water, just about boiling. First thing when I go out into the barn is pull all the frozen water dishes from the rabbit cages, and drop them in the bucket. while I feed corn, and rabbit pellets, and treats like carrots, bread, and apples, plus give more hay if needed, and feed chickens and guineas, by the time I get all that done, the dishes are thawed out and the ice has cooled down the water, so I fill chicken pans first, save enough for the coop, and give the rabbits back their dishes. If my hands are starting to get cold, I keep them in the warm water for awhile. It's drying them on my inside sweatshirt that is hard. Next I take care of the chickens in the coop. Come in with corn, sunflower seeds, and all flock for the geese/ducks, plus some of Cindy Lou's feed, then get more warm water for them. Go back out to take care of them. After warming back up, Mike goes out and does the stove. By then, I go help fluff up hay for the horses, well, usually Mike does that while I hand out a few treats and check the horses over. Around noon we water, and at 4 start all over again. Usually, then I do not have to fill so many water dishes, because it will be getting dark soon after that, and all the chickens and geese/ducks and Cindy Lou will be going in for the night. But I do leave the goat some extra water for the night and a few treats like apples and raisins.

Horses were all standing outside next to the tin while the sun came up, stayed there until about 8 while I was doing chores.
Angie was on her way home this morning, so took her dogs back fed Dusty and Angel, cats and her parrot. Trying to teach the parrot to say "HO Ho Ho". Left her water dripping faster, because tonight temps are still bitterly cold. -26 this morning. I do not dress much differently for going outside, but have on nylon tights under my jogging pants, and if it is windy, add a towel around my neck. Only my fingers get cold on me. Its because I need to take my gloves off to open cages, and empty frozen water dishes. Usually, just bring them in and always have spare dishes out there.

Busy day, not sure what I did get really finished, I must have got one thing completely done. Left this morning at 9 to go do my sister's place, she and hubby went to DC, on the 20th, been checking nearly everyday for a box dropped off by UPS, today is 10th day so I water her plants and check house over to make sure nothing is frozen and everything still working. Then on to Glen Flora to do Angie's chores, and on to Ladysmith, stopped at Walmart to pick up stuff for Mom's punch, and Mike dropped me off at Connections, 75% off Christmas and yellow tags, was looking for a picture frame for baby picture's Tristan and Maya gave us of Ryder, hit the jackpopt, nearly everything had yellow tags, 7 items came to 1.53 plus there was lettuce and buns, plus more if you want them. Connections is also where the food pantry is located. So I suppose they had alot of extras which would have gone bad by next week. Glad to get them. Then Mike went to get my sister Becky about 10 miles away to take her to Mom's for the weekend, She can drive, but only has 1 eye and if weather got bad, she would worry about getting back. Took her to Mom's and got a free cookie and cup of coffee. Got home in time to do chores and get ready for Church at 4, but have to leave about 45 before that. After I got home started supper, and put Cindy Lou and the geese/ducks in for the night. Now after doing Horse Channels, I still have to bake another rasberry tote, and apple "something" for tomorrow night. Mass is at 4 again, so supper will be around 6 Mikey and Jennifer will come over and eat with us.

Snow did not get to be too much, just a good dusting, temps not too bad yet. In the 20's. Went in for my mammogram today, brought some groceries, mostly veggies, that's what I am taking to Mom's for dinner. Veggies with cheese sauce.
Did Angie's chores on the way back, brought Cosmo and Bubbles back with us. Made a nice place in the basement for them. Would like to bring them upstairs, but Sadie would think they are to be played with and want to run. I am sure our tree would "somehow" get in their way and go down.

Dominic Dad, Joe, had some wolf statues, I just have to get up stair and find them. I was looking for a certain one, it made in Germany and of hard rubber, but very life like. they also make horses, which I have some of them. Starts with Sch.
Marion will have to hang a little can on Honeys collars saying "25 cent a pet or butt scratch" Honey will be rich in no time.
Our cold air and snow are coming, doing chores for a girl, who went home for Christmas, its about 1/2 way to Ladysmith. Forgot to check how long it takes from the time we leave the house. 2 horses, 2 dogs, cats, a parrot. I might bring her 2 dogs to my house. Cosmos use to be here a lot before when I took care of her horses.
Have a managram tomorrow. Spelled it wrong but sound it out. Today we got 2 loads of wood, did Angie's chores, picked up Mikey's pills, and that was about it.
Still calling for -20 for the weekend. But the snow line is coming right over us. Tristan told me 1 to 72 inches, well thats way over my head.

So now you live in "swamp land" Tx. Is your soil sand or heavy clay or roam??
My Mom will be 92 in January, and yes, she still starts her own wood furnace, and usually keeps it going during the day. Wood peice are not too big, but furnace "burn area" is not too large so only smaller pieces can fit inside. During the night she likes the gas furnace going, other wise she said she has to get up at night to fire up.
Today was just so perfect for a winter day, I see 34, and bright sun shine....this I am sending straight to you. Went to Marshfield, stop to see Mom's sister in the nursing home, could not wake her up, but took a few pictures of her to show Mom. Mom decided to stay home and bake, felt like calling her up when we went into St. Vinny's just to let her know what she missed. We walked out with nothing. I like to look for Breyer horses and books, but did not want to start looking at the books. Checked out a few other items I am looking for, but did not find them. Next to Menards for a few things and lastly hit Farm and Fleet, and blew all my $$$. Lets see All Flock Chicken Food, Cat Food, Dog Food, 2 bags of Rabbit Pellets, Sunflower seeds, Cat Litter, and of course popcorn in the 12 # bags, some nuts and a few bags of Christmas goodies. Got home and watered, took young guineas out of the water tank so I could clean it out before this cold spell hits, they are nearly as messy as geese and ducks with their water, and of course I keep it covered so it stays warm. Looking for a wolf statue or picture for Dominic to go with his new wolf quilt my sister made for him. I told him she could not find any wolf print so hope he likes it. I do, and back side is warm fleece in a gray pine tree print.
