How We Met

I was searching for the perfect horse online, when I came across an ad for a gorgeous little 2 year old mare from Maine. I decided to check her out, and fell instantly in love with her sweet personality!
I knew I was a goner the moment I set eyes on her...
She had almost no training and her feet had not been done in what looked like months, but I just couldn't resist those big brown eyes and that adorable little face. So the next week after I went to see her, I brought my girl Shasta home. It turns out she has a spunky side to her as well as sweet, and the first few months proved a challenge. She would not let anyone near her feet for months, and was extremely herd bound to our other mare, Comet. She would hardly allow any one near her some days, and was very touchy about her head and legs.
Let's just say I got a lot of kicks, bites & bruises during that first year... And was quite frustrated at times. But I was determined to turn her into the horse of my dreams.
So I enlisted the help of a trainer and an understanding hoof trimmer, who both have become good friends of mine. With their help, we've worked through most of the issues, and Shasta is doing quite well! I ride on trails all over the place, and she responds to just the lightest touch. Sometimes people tell me I should have gotten a well-trained horse, something "bombproof" and predictable. But I wouldn't trade my wild Shasta for a million well trained horses! Every experience has taught me something, and I don't regret a moment of it! Besides, where would the excitement in life be, if I didn't have a crazy young horse to spice things up?.
