How We Met

Must have been the blue eyes!
We were going to visit some friends and passed a farm with a sign "Horses for Sale". We just had to take a look! When we saw Rocky, that was it!

Rocky is our 1st horse and he's been so much fun over the years from my daughter trying to ride him in English beginner shows (jumping talent zero) to Western and trail riding for me, which he prefers! He's been in a parade once and given lots of pony rides over the years. Other various experience includes vaulting horse, Dress-up Halloween shows, fun shows, summer camp... We took him to several County fair western shows just for fun too.

Nowadays, semi-retired due to navicular issues. Light riding only on trail loop or in pasture.

Rocky is a "Medicine Hat" paint horse. Medicine Hat is the name applied to horses exhibiting a unique and rare pattern of color. Being mostly white in body, Medicine Hats have color on their ears and top of the head, which resembles a bonnet or hat. Color on the chest is termed a shield. Medicine Hats often have pink muzzles, and those with one or more blue eyes were especially prized.
Medicine horses blue eyes were often called Sky-eyes or Heaven-eyes and added to the mystique which surrounded them.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Glad that you called the vet and took the temp, that's normal. My thoughts are first day after his shots and he was a little punky feeling. Lymph node could just be a little swollen gland like we get and nothing serious. Glad that you're on top of it and calling the vet and speaking with him. Unlike people who won't call when a horse bucks when asked to canter and won't canter. And makes the statement, I'm not wasting money. Pisses me off! Day two of dry weather and 80's for temps. Yesterday I might have over done it on the knee, but had to get as much mowing and weed whacking done as possible. Plus lunged Paige, free lunged Indy and then turned them out! Got the two smaller pastures mowed. Today the knee don't feel that bad, icing it right now! Getting it ready to go to work! LOL! Plan is weed whack behind indoor and on south side. Then turn them out. After they come in, weed whack and mow at least on of the big pastures! Still no walks for Honey, but maybe a very short one later on. I won two tickets to the local rodeo and it's Sat and of course there's a 50% chance of T/S and rain, but not till afternoon, hopefully we'll get there and not be rained out! Truck ran great Wed going to my two appointments. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Oh dear, hope it's just that he's preferring the spring grass instead. The lymph node kinda points to an infection in that region though, so maybe he isn't feeling quite normal. Hope he's better soon. It's always a little scary when they don't eat like they should.
His merle coat is sure pretty, I had never noticed it before.
I rode Allie again last night. The good news is, she consented to stay in a walk for the most part. The bad news was that the wind had picked up a little, so she was on high alert the whole time, spooked a time or two, and her right spin really fell apart. The mower isn't running right and the pool pump started spurting water in all directions, so that stuff needs repair/replacement and $$$. And at a time I was hoping to get tires for the horse trailer. Oi!
Well, keep us posted on Rocky. Take care.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Did you get the Cortisone or the Synvisc in your knee? Hope that lump is nothing, could even be from a bite from a fly or something in the pasture when he was out there. Yes, love Back On Track, have the pillow wraps, quick wraps, saddle pad, shoulder bra and mesh sheet for the horses. I have the knee brace, back brace, wrist brace, t-shirt and long johns for myself. I swear by them, they do work! Yes, it increases the circulation to promote healing! Well got those two more doctor's appointments out of the way. Synvisc One shot went well, although a little sore today. Icing right now! And take it easy today. So lunge them and turn out time. He did say I could mow for a while, sitting on the tractor won't be walking and it's the walking you have to take it easy on the first and second day. Then over to the Lung doctor, they sound good and back in 3 months to him. Got home and just gave the kids hay for lunch with fresh water. It was nice and sunny, but the ground was still a sponge! Hopefully today I can get them out! Nice weather for the next couple of days, and of course 39% chance of storms on Sat and I have the tickets to the rodeo that I won! Could be getting wet! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

So glad you and the dogs got a good ride in last night. What a beautiful trail you have to ride on. And call me slow, but does Blue have some faint merle to his coat? I'd never noticed that before in his pics, he's always looked black.
I finally got to ride Allie yesterday, yay! She's had at least 2 weeks off (feels more like 2 months) because I've been so busy. All she wanted to do was go, so we did tight circles, forehand turns, and spins everytime she broke out of a walk. Got tons of practice at those things, lol. She finally dropped her head and stayed at a walk, even though it was the world's fastest walk. She's gradually getting lighter in the bosal, and pretty good at our maneuvers. It was great to be back on her again.

Finally, back in the saddle. Just an easy ride in the round pen, Lily did well, but still wants to hang at the gate, so that's where we trotted. Really will have to work o9bn slowing her down. Great that Steve and Van's clinic didn't get rained out Sunday, rain can be so spotty here. Have seen pouring down rain a half mile away, and nothing at our place. Duh, W Nile is the other vaccine, that is given twice yearly.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. WOW he gets a massage with his shots! Hope he don't have any reactions and swelling. Wonder what the lymph node is all about. Maybe from the weather, he's just got swollen glands like people get. Prayers all will be well. Well physical went well, blood pressure is great and I lost 7 lbs from last year! They too were happy about that, but this IsAgenix is great! Just hope that it helps to bring the cholesterol down some! People say that they have dropped 30 points or more! So by the time I got back from the dr's Beast was done! So I stopped and dropped off the F250 truck and they drove me to Ford's. It was a few things, first the regeneration whatever blew out some little part and got stuck. The hose from the turbo on the diesel to the engine actually exploded when being taxed going up the big mountain to get home from the chiro. And there were 7 updates on the computer system for the truck that they did the upgrade on. He was kind enough to put it in under warranty work, even though the bumper to bumper ran out the end of Nov. So the cost then for warranty work is a service charge of $100, actual cost would have been over $350 to me. So he said, there we helped to pay for the rental truck. Thank you Nieson Fords! So getting home in the rain at 3 pm, meant hay and fresh water for the horses. Now for today, I'll be heading over for my knee injection and then have a 2:15 appt with my lung doctor for my asthma check up. So once again probably in and hay and fresh water for them. Then will have to take it easy tomorrow, so a lunge day again for them. Hopefully today's sun will start to dry up the soapy lawn and pastures! Lot's of mowing to do! Everything will have to be mowed twice to get it done and done right! Need a herd of sheep and goats! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Have never had a problem with vaccines. Really like that now they only get 2 shots, the VEWT/Rhino/Flu/?(brain fart) are combined, and the Rabies is the 2nd vaccine. We don't need to give anything else in this area. Finally drying out, maybe tomorrow. Steve and Van's clinic evidently went well, didn't look like they got the rain Sunday.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well got the lawn mowed yesterday before the chiro. Kids got screwed out of the afternoon out! Coming back from chiro and food shopping, the truck goes into exhaust cleaning mode and gets stuck! Tried to drive it out of it like Fords said, but nope didn't work. Had to drop off groceries and take it to Fords! But they don't do loaners for about the last 10 years, so had to get a Enterprise Rental through them. Yikes $56 a day! But I got a 2018 F150 4X4, in black XLT not the Lariat's that I'm used to, but still good. Hopefully it's fixed today! If I didn't have my complete physical this morning at the Union Medical Center and it takes about 4 weeks for the appt. I wouldn't have needed a car, they could have driven me home! Oh well, and it's raining today and all day! So kids will get lunged today when I get home this early afternoon. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well it was very interesting show for sure! Got horses loaded in between the rain and we drove almost 4 hours in the rain and unloaded in the rain! Rain on Fri and Sat, thank goodness for all the neck covered rain sheets I've won over the years! So Paige stayed dry getting to the indoor arena. Friday placed in my Level One Showmanship under one judge, then completely had a brain fart and half way through my Select Pattern blew it! Oh Well! Redeemed myself on Sat with Level One two 3rds out of 17 horses. And when with two 2nds in my Select Class. Paige also got halter points nationally. And did I get the stink eye from Marissa! Indy enjoyed himself and got lunged daily there too. Had a good time with Kate, Matt and Denise, no stress at all, and Kate's like on top of things. Down to every last detail! I had a shinny horse walking into all my classes! Not like before, where all of a sudden I was looking for a grooming bag at the ring to do final touches myself! Of course Sunday the sun finally came out, but I was leaving. Temps down there hit 89! Good to be home! But next three days are all kinds of doctor appointments! With Wed being the ortho for the Synvisc One in the Right Knee. So that'll be three more days I miss of riding and working with Paige. But I should be a lot sounder myself in about 2 weeks. So Newman that had the colic surgery for the twist of the large intestine is doing very well. Jack that got himself impaled by the fence is home and on a long road to recovery as well. Got a load of my show laundry in and will have two loads of there's. And everyone wants to chip in and buy me jeans that fit and aren't falling off. Down 7 lbs and 15 inches in 4 weeks! Loving this IsaGentics diet! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Haha, I bet it is harder to keep his focus at home in his yard. Good practice though.
We only got one little downpour yesterday afternoon (1/10 of an inch), so I was able to get a lot of grass cut (the dandelions are off the chain!) and also a short ride on Gracie. I rode her out in the pasture, which apparently, I don't do nearly enough, because she didn't listen as well as she does in the ring. Gonna have to practice that more often with her. I've found that schooling in the pasture really sharpens them up in the riding ring. Anyway, she got yard time afterward for a treat.
It's back to work all day today, but hope you have a great friday.

A quick vote. Well I went to get in the car Monday and it wouldn't unlock from the drivers door. Had to crawl over the stick shift from the other side. Stopped by the garage and Vince got it so I could open it from the inside. Which would have worked except we had thunderstorm and rain. Car spent the day in the shop. took him 3 hours to fix it. He had to take it completely apart. It needs a new part that he didn't have. However, I use the key and not the remote to get in and out. The remote doesn't work on the drivers door. So I use the key the alarm goes off. Then I have to hit the lock key. O well I will live with it till the part comes in. Sad part the car body is slowly falling apart. The motor is good I only have 144,000 miles on it. Looks like I have to start thinking of getting another car. I know its old (2006) but with low mileage I really wish it would last longer. But when the parts are so old and its rusting away. If I have to keep putting money into it, I guess I don't have a choice. Just like not having a car payment. O well such is life. I need a car so no choice. Vicki & Big Jax

HI Rocky, here's a vote for ya. So I called the phone number listed on the Pride salt brick, it's the number for Tractor Supply Co. So he didn't know anything about what I was talking about! Have to see if they have a web site or mailing address next week when I'm home. Glad you didn't get that kind. Interesting day yesterday for sure. Bright sunshine and warm and humid. Got the lawn mowed and got the kids out for like 90 minutes and noticed the sky getting dark. In they came, started to walk Honey, got about 1500 feet from the house and got a severe weather alert on my cell phone. They weren't kidding, turned around, just got Honey in the house and closed up the barn as much as I could and all hell broke loose! High winds, Guests of 60 MPH were recorded with hail half inch round came down. Then heavy rains blowing every which way! Thunder and lightning unreal! Honey had some of her meds and was still a mess, but not to bad. So as of this morning, several area schools closed cause no power! I did loose my internet till this morning. Trees down all over the place, several lightning strikes with fires! Remember JW that was my farrier, his daughters new horse got so scared it ran the fence line and busted the fence up and himself. Where was he, at Marissa's, what where they doing, bringing in their lessons horses first! So Jack got rushed to Mid-Atlantic with major lacerations penetrating almost into his stomach! He's coming home this morning, but his show career is over for this year, I feel so bad for little Anna, it's her new horse. Then another friend over that way, it's where it was worse than up here, he gelding coliced bad. He's in surgery right now for gas and minor twist, hopefully Newman will be okay. Dam weather! Home Depot over that way lost their entire garden center area, roof blew right off! It was bad! So today, it's raining and will be most of the day. So indoor arena work for everyone. Just have to load up bedding and last minute food stuff for me tomorrow morning and we're off to the show. So we won't be on tomorrow at all. Try to keep y'all updated from the show site. Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well yesterday we had sun all day. So got the kids out for almost 2 hours on their pastures! Shopping done, trailer moved and half packed! Walked Honey for a mile. Productive day. Right now it's sunny and humid! But by 4 pm severe thunder storms! So I'm hoping to get them out and mow the lawn around the house and by the indoor. Maybe do a little more of my food packing in the fridge in the trailer and a few other things. Hay and horses feed will be tomorrow before the next round of rain! Indy is doing very well, I have the phone number for the salt brick company and will call them today and ask if they changed things or the shrink wrap could effect the salt. Also if anyone else they know of had an issue. Name on the salt brick is PRIDE. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

A Vote for You!!
What a great daughter you have, and she has good taste in picking out the right Mother's Day gift.
Raining out now, so I have some free minutes, before I go out and lock in chicken, horses, and ducks and geese for the night. Been selling some of the guinea hens off, and also most of the 2 batches of chicks I hatched. Hopefully, the geese and duck eggs will hatch tomorrow and Wednesday. Have chicken and quail eggs all due by Friday. Ricestonian Swap is the 26th, so I might get to go. Weather here has been nice, need rain so I did not mind having to get inside after raking up more space to plant trees, my hands feel like sandpaper. So much to get done get. I think about logging on but it is usually around 10 or near 11 when I get done with the things I have to do on the computer, and I can barely stay awake. Hope everyone is well, since there are no blogs for my horses

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well I got the kids to the indoor in between the heavier rains! Hand walked Paige for like 30 minutes, swelling is down and she's sound. Jogged some straight lines and doing well. Indy got lunged and Bullseye to to play. Also trimmed Bullseye's rear hooves finally! So he's good to go for about 8 weeks now. Today it's overcast and supposed to stay dry! So down to the feed store, Tractor Supply, Acme for the rest of the food for me and then home and hook up to the trailer and move it and start packing as much as I can. Probably the hay for sure, as the rest of the days it'll be rain again! Gonna be a wet one for sure. But with the huge indoor arena, a covered bubble arena for practice and the enclosed barns, we'll be dry. Except for walking from barns to arenas. I've got their rain sheets packed all the time in the trailer, so we'll be good. Haven't seen the fox! Yeah hopefully scared if off of my property at least. She was big, about almost the size of Honey! Just as long, but maybe shorter! Probably goes about 35 lbs at least! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well nothing buy rain all day yesterday. And today too! Actually the forecast is for any where's from 30% to 70% each and every day for the next week! Gonna get wet going from the show barns to the indoor arenas! Yesterday was a spa day and hay and fresh water for lunch. Indy's now on hay morning and afternoon (if not out for pasture) and doing well! Zyrtec 10 am and 5 pm, weaning him off. For sure it was the salt bricks! Today I'll for sure get them to the indoor and hand walk Paige and lunge Indy. Trim Bullseye's rear hooves too! Yes, Indy will be going to the horse show with us. Kendra who takes care of Bullseye really don't want the responsibility of Indy. Especially after him and all his issues with the hives! And I'd be a wreck if he stayed home! I wasn't all that thrilled with him staying at Marissa's last year, I know he didn't get the best of care! Rather pay for the stall and know he's taken care of the way I want! Besides, he does have his fan club that always asks for him and now the girls can come and see and love on him. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.
PS, haven't seen the fox, either wounded it or scared it off shooting at it.

Another really windy day, but at least no drought, earthquakes, fires, floods or volcanic eruptions. Those poor people in Hawaii. Got fly stuff on Cisco and Sunset (she wasn't too happy about it, doesn't like it applied to her poll, but doesn't mind the other spots). Don't have an Alpha mare, Cisco is the boss. Those Alpha mares sure do keep everyone in line.

Come visit me, Mystic, Cisco, Angel Meg, Bo (RIP) and Jazz & Angel Nugget.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. That's great that you got to stop over and see your mom. I bet Blue loved his walk by the river for sure. Lucky you, missing the TS storms! We have some moving in for tonight, will ThunderShirt Honey and give her drops! Well that red fox is back! Seems that before he showed up over here with that chicken, he killed one in their back yard and then was making off with another. After he was chased away, he returned to Laura's and killed another chicken that day 30 minutes later. Last night at 6:45 when I got ready to go and feed, he was right at my barn door! Don't know if he was looking to go in, or coming out, but he went to the manure pile and stood on top of it eyeballing me! I got the 22 rifle and took a shot at him, buy my scope isn't adjusted right and didn't get him! So now I'll be carrying the 22 pistol all the time! Horses were up and even Indy was upset when I went in to feed. So he might have been in there. Mo is okay! So, Paige was out all afternoon yesterday and walking fine on it with standing wraps yet as per Larry. Today it's raining and will be for several days! So it'll be indoor arena and probably just hand walking today and see where I go from there. Want her totally okay to leave next Thursday for the horse show! Even if I only show Halter and Showmanship, I don't mind, they are my two favorite classes. I don't have to ride this show. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well four of us agree that Paige really needs shoes behind for the posterior supple. Especially now that she's going into work full time. She stood great for the farrier and didn't even mind him working on the rears. So she's back in rear shoes and standing flat on that hoof! Swelling is going down and she's tracking good! So just as Rob is packing up his shoeing trailer, he hears a noise, comes out and right next to it and 8 feet from my barn door is a red fox setting up for the kill on the chicken it dragged over here! He scared it off, fox ran to my hay field and stared at us. Chicken ran in barn, Paige was on the cross ties and says, HI little one, come visit me! She loves everything and everyone! Neighbor from across the street came over to get it. Laura says, yeah Steve (husband)saw the fox grab the chicken, yells to Laura to go and save it! Chicken idiot Steve, if he would have yelled and ran at it, it would have let go of the chicken there! But no, Steve is a sissy! MEN! So at any rate, kids out 90 minutes, Paige moving good. What a TS rolled in last night just as we went to the barn to feed at 7 pm. Poor Honey was besides herself. She came in each stall and sat in the corner and shook while I picked them clean. Poor baby! Well today it's weed whack the property line and mow those two other pastures. Kids out, but a cool day of only about 63 degrees. So much for wanting to bath them today. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of, that no boots are gonna work on her. I think the gaiters actually make it worse, makes more bulk back there to step on. Glad they don't rub on Rocky. Actually, most of the reviews said they didnt, which surprised me.
I got to ride Allie yesterday out in the pasture. All we did was walk since all she wanted to do was go. She got LOTS of practice circling, lol. We had some TS roll through in the afternoon but none came over.
We're headed down to see my folks for Mother's Day, so I'll be off line until Monday. Hope you have a great weekend.

Come visit me, BJ and his mom Gracie & Allie.

Stupid horses. For some reason, Cisco took a dislike to Jazz last night, ran her for nearly 20 minutes till I got them separated. Did run her into the fence, but she bounced off. She does have a couple of wounds (teeth) on both flanks, but otherwise seems unhurt. Very lucky. Will no longer be turning her out for the afternoon with the "herd".

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Glad that you found the issue with Blue limping and got it fixed up for him. Happy he's letting you treat it today and sound this morning. WOW never had any injections in my back, they have to be worse than the knees I'm thinking. Hope it all works out. YAY old lawn mower/tractor is sold! First guy never showed up, called second guy! He's like I'll be there right after work. Didn't care about the oil leak, as long as it runs, cuts and does it job, I can put oil in it he said. Paid the asking price of $150 cash and will pick it up this afternoon! Farrier this morning already. Shoes all around on Paige, she needs that posterior support on those hinds, cause she buggered up that right hind again! DAM! So back on bute and no riding. Turn out time and Larry said she'll be fine. He believes that in running the other day like a nut, she kicked herself and blew it back up. Gotta try and mow two pastures before the rains and TS storms move it. Gotta jet! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

I looked up the Cavallo boots yesterday after your good reviews. Gracie really needs boots to trail ride in, she walks beside the trail instead of on them. But she steps so deep from behind (in fact, she's hard to keep from forging) and just pulls her front boots right off with her hind feet or even shreds them, so I don't know if any boots are ever gonna work for her. My other question about them is they come up kinda high, do they ever leave rub spots around the coronary band or heel bulbs?

A Vote for You!!
Hope this cooling off weather pattern does not last long. We got up into the high 60's some place said 71. Getting lots done outside, inside, not so much. Tracking in mud and old hay.
Raining today, so can not work on fencing. We needed the rain. Fields are just starting to beable to get into them for plowing. Mike and I have been working on cleaning up the garden, taking down divider fence, and pulling old weeds/plants for burning. Put fence back up to keep chickens out. Have to take it down each fall, or snow buries it in the mud, and then it is nearly impossible to clean up.
Horses need brushing so bad, and all it seems we are doing is working on fences. Mikey's calves kept getting out, so we have his fences nearly done. One of the calves hurt her back leg, I think got stuck in the feeder. So twice a day either rubbing it with DMSO or shots.
Slowly I am selling little chicks, and a few guineas. One more batch of baby bunnies to sell, but not old enough yet. Next week I hope the eggs in the incubators should start hatching. Sort of worried, because my microwave was "arching" and not sure if it caused the incubators to spike higher in temps.

Come visit me, Mistic, Willow & Whisper.

Glad you are happy with Rocky's boots. My horses have all shed out. Warming up almost too quickly, high 80's now, soon in the 90's. Worked a bit with Lilly saddled, and got part of one of my larger turnouts partially sprayed for weeds. Hummingbirds are eating me out of house and home, changing the full feeder (a pint) every 2 1/2 days or so.

Happy to hear everyone's weather is warming up! Now we are going to start complaining its too hot. lol I love the warmer, drier weather for a change. I was able to get one ride in on Lucky. My husband has been riding a few times on Gypsy. I haven't visited Ace at the trainers yet. It has been two weeks. We have talked with the trainer and he is very pleased with the progress. He was going to bring Ace with him to a rodeo just so Ace could be around the noise and excitement. We are planning to visit Ace this weekend. He comes home on the 26th.

Come visit me, ACES WILD & SUSIE AND FRIENDS.
