How We Met

Must have been the blue eyes!
We were going to visit some friends and passed a farm with a sign "Horses for Sale". We just had to take a look! When we saw Rocky, that was it!

Rocky is our 1st horse and he's been so much fun over the years from my daughter trying to ride him in English beginner shows (jumping talent zero) to Western and trail riding for me, which he prefers! He's been in a parade once and given lots of pony rides over the years. Other various experience includes vaulting horse, Dress-up Halloween shows, fun shows, summer camp... We took him to several County fair western shows just for fun too.

Nowadays, semi-retired due to navicular issues. Light riding only on trail loop or in pasture.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well did get a lot done today, not as much as I might normally, but still a lot! Got all around the outside of the property and the back side of the indoor weed whacked. Then had to run to town for something, so that was a welcome break. The came home and made some macaroni with sauce and was able to eat it, had to cut it up small. Then turned out the horses and mowed the lawn. What a work out that was for the poor lawn tractor. It was high, but not really to thick. Had to dump the rear baggers several times. But it looks nice again. Maybe I'll try a ride tomorrow, I know the jogging and long trotting will jar the mouth a little. Even though Paige is very smooth. So far the technicolor is staying inside the mouth! Thank goodness. Yep, think I'll be getting that Shingles shot then! Googled it, it's a one time thing! Thank goodness, hate needles! Thanks for the comebacks on it. Marion and the blondes.

♡ Haltered the boys and put swat on their belly's because of some gnats hanging around. Looked them over good and turned them out in the front pasture to graze, they were happy about that! Have a wonderful Thursday :)

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Oh that's great that Blue is back to running all ready and really feeling great! Oh you're so lucky to be going to the Equine Fair, got the infor in the mail, but just can't leave them alone for a few days. My helper won't watch the two show horses, only the donkey, she don't want the responsibility of them. Well feeling a little better today. All kinds of black and blue inside my mouth, jaw outside still normal color! Notice I said still, don't know if it will turn or not. Did manage to lunge Indy and then lunged Paige too. Went to the Lung Doctor and my asthma is doing fine, even though I couldn't do my inhaler this morning. But now he wants me to go for the Shingles Shot! Anybody know much about this shot and it's reactions??? Did get the kids out for pasture time late this afternoon, first grass in a week for them. Heads to the grass and never moved! LOL! Plans for Thursday include hopefully a ride on Paige and then mow the lawn that's about 8 inches high! Ought to be fun! Marion and the blondes.

HI Rocky, here's a vote for ya. That's great to hear that Blue is done with his meds and now can go out and be in the sun and trail ride with ya. Don't forget, he might still act a little punky at times, it's nothing to worry about, it takes about another week or two for him to be full tilt running around free wheeling all over the place again. Well nothing got done other than feeding today with the horses. Had that emergency dentist appointment at 11 am. I was right, nothing could be done to save the root, so it was oral surgery to extract it, 4 sutures later and some pain killers. Not to do nothing for 24 hours. So I went to Marissa's barn and played co-pilot on a road trip to have to horses vetted out. Since I had to either sit up or stand for the next 8 hours. That took care of 6 of them! LOL! Hopefully Wed before my asthma check up at the lung doctors I'll be able to lunge them or at least get them out for a while. Marion and the blondes.

A Vote for You!!
Its been raining here for the last few days too. Not hard, just enough so if you are working outside, you will get wet if outside too long. Along with the rain, its been cold for summer, in the 50's and breeze too. Horses and steers love it, and the winds keep the bugs off them.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Well the batteries didn't make it! Got up this morning and the compartment where they are was really hot! Feed the horses. Then started with phone calls at 8 am. On my 4th try to someone, they were able to get two of them and told me to bring the trailer down in about an hour. Yep, they were cooked! All new in and ready to go. Didn't get back to the farm till around noon time and it was a heat index of 94 all ready. So the horses never got out or worked. Gave them hay for lunch and I worked on packing the trailer with hay, feed and bedding. Then my food and Harley's food. I think we're ready. Also stopped at the Post Office and mailed the ticket back with the signed contesting box marked off. Got the time stamp and a receipt that it was mailed! I called and the lady clerk even said that wasn't right! So hopefully the judge will agree too! Measurements and pictures will be taken to present to the judge. I'm going loaded for bear! LOL! Well, we'll be off line till next Monday. Marion and the blondes.

Good morning. It has been 48 days sense we have received rain so after today it will break the record from 1918! We do have chance’s starting Wed.-Friday---we’ll see. I had a really nice weekend. It was the best weekend in a long time. My ride Saturday was completely awesome. Whiskey was really good until we met a friend we haven’t seen in a while. She has her 10th ride on her mare (palomino) and Whiskey fell in love with her AGAIN. So when we rode away he did not want to go, he tossed his head some and wanted to crow hop but we did a few circles and worked him out of it. He acted that way the first time I met her mare and she was ponying her and he acted that way. Guess when you’re in love – you’re in love ♥ Sunday morning I rode Deacon for 30 minutes and hosed him down. We went grocery shopping and later that afternoon we went to my grandson’s birthday. He turned 5 and they are expecting another baby in March :) Have a wonderful day and week ♡

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. So happy to hear that he's coming along well on the meds and it's about like what I went through. Harley was my second lab to have Lyme's, Truman did years ago. But I don't remember back that far! LOL! Harley was 2013, so it's fresh in my mind. LOL! Senior moments! LOL! Well all packed and ready to leave by 9:30 am Thursday. Yes Paige will be showing in all her usual classes too. Just giving Indy a show to go into the Aged Geldings classes. I can show him under her show bill at this show and it's not extra on my bank account! LOL! I did give them baths today, since he'll be clean then and maybe she'll even stay clean that I just have to do manes and tails Tomorrow after lungeing, or just hose them off. Got the last two pastures mowed too! Yep idiots still driving fast up the road and stirring up tons of dust now, most of the stone has settled into the tar. I'll be going slow with the trailer when leaving for sure! Catch y'all next Monday night! Marion and the blondes.

so good that Blue continues to do well ♡ I found out Saturday when I took the horses in for coggins and shots that Rocket is actually a “Overo Palomino” not a tobiano. Guess I never looked at the paper receipt from the equine clinic very well~ha ha :) I also picked up what Doc Edwards uses there for fly control. It is a feed through that kill the cycle of flies. You feed it until the last day of November and start back the 1st of February. It is not absorbed in their system it goes straight through. He has no flies around his clinic, stallion station or his property where he raises paint horses. It is an RX prescription. It is called “Solitude”. It takes about 30 days to see the difference so I will let you know how it’s working for me by the end of this month. Have a wonderful hump day ♡

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. You'll also notice that after he finishes his last few days of meds, he might not be 100% yet. I hit the panic button and called the vet and he said that is normal. In about another week or so, he'll be back to normal. Just how it works. So don't panic. Had to run to town and get grain today and fuel up Beast. Tomorrow will be loading up hay, grain, supplements, dog food, my food, you know the list! Today they enjoyed more time off, out grazing mid-day for a couple of hours. Then it started to get really hot and the bugs started to get really bad. Unless I deep them in fly spray, and I don't even know then if that'll work. The flies are just so pesky! Got two pastures and half of around the indoor mowed this afternoon. Darn horse flies were even attacking me while mowing! They hot tarred our road and then put down a layer of 3/8 inch stone and rolled it. But it's a dusty mess and stones flying all over cause the idiots still insist on driving like it's the Indy 500! Hope it packs down and gets quite over night. Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. How's Blue doing. Yes being in the house in the A/C will help him feel better. That Doxi med makes you feel like you are on fire! I know, been there, done it! Well we did good, not my best or should I say her best. But good. We got a storm on Thursday afternoon and that helped lower the temps. Friday we did great in Halter and showmanship. And Marissa had an awesome pattern in Open Trail. Placed well out of 15 horses. I was very happy. But at 7:30 pm when our Ranch Riding was going to go off, they moved us to ring 3 and behind and next to it, they were throwing all the standards and poles for the jumping classes the next day. Several of us had spooky horses and decided to scratch for safety's sake. Marissa didn't want me getting dumped and hurt. Saturday we put more Halter national points on her and did even better in showmanship. I was on my game! Sunday Marissa had a student in the Fair FEI jumping and she's a 14 year old girl with some issues, so Marissa had to forego our Trail class and I had to ride the Open Ranch Riding. I did well in my two Horsemanship Classes, even getting a 2 and 3. Won my Amy Ranch Riding and was second under both judges in the Open Division. Was very pleased with Paige. Today they got the day out on grass, they were happy. Indy had lot's of compliments from the fair goers that walked the barns. He was lunged daily. This weekend he'll be showing in 3 gelding classes. Told him to put his game face on. It was hot showing in the sun, temps were in the mid 80's most of the time all 3 days. Have pictures on FB for those who have it. I'm still tired. Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Thank you for the good luck wishes. Does Blue usually live at the barn then? Since you said he was home in the A/C. Well another hot humid one today. Feels like was 96 with a real of 92 again. Started packing by 8 am and was done in about 90 minutes of loading bedding, hay and all the other major stuff. I was dripping wet in sweat! Gave Indy and Paige their show shaves and then did our Showmanship patterns in the indoor with Paige. Only stayed in there about 15 minutes and then back to the barn and 6 fans going! We'll be leaving about 10 am tomorrow, since it's only a 30 minute drive to the Fair Grounds. Hopefully beating out the thunder storms and getting all settled in. Will miss y'all and might list on FB if I have time. Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Yeah, the way it was tracking, I didn't think it was going that far north of us. It hit Northern PA really hard! I'd say about another week and Blue will be running around again. I have Lyme's and when mine flairs up, holy hell I feel like crap! Well it was a hot humid one today. Heat index was at 95 degrees, straight up temp was 90! So Indy and Paige were both only lunged for 15 minutes, with every fan going in the indoor, plus the big 36 round fan by the one door way. So it wasn't all that bad in there out of the sun and humidity. Then I waited for the sun to move and shade the backside and northeast side and then I weed whacked all that down. Moved the trailer into the driveway closer to the garages and will start to pack it up tomorrow. Remembering to bring a ton of electrolytes for both the horses, dog and myself. Although the dog will be into the trailer almost 24/7 in the A/C! Lucky him! Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Glad to hear that Blue is responding well to the Doxi and has his appetite back all ready and no more limping. It'll take about another week for the energy to return, by the third week he should seem normal. But finish out the 30 day supply. Got a lot of little things done today. Spread out 200 lbs of Mag/Cal in the indoor in the super dry and dusty areas, yes I have those, along with some still wet spots from that storm almost 2 weeks ago now! UGH! Well last night we had that storm, I don't think we've ever had lightning and thunder that lasted so long, it was well over two hours of it. And the rains finally came, heavy for a while too, I was worried about more seeping into the indoor on the low side, but all was well. Rain gauge said one inch. Today was major food shopping day and get all that's needed for our horse show this Thursday when we leave. Horses were out late in the afternoon, as it was very hot and humid earlier, then it seemed to drop in humidity and a nice breeze came in. Tomorrow it's back to riding and start to pack up the trailer. Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rocky, here's a vote for ya. Just saw where you had to rush your dog to the vet. Lyme's! Harley had it two summers ago, he too gets the Lyme's vaccine, only 75% effective and at that time I was using Bio-Spot for ticks and fleas. My vet said that they are becoming immune to certain one (ticks that is) and recommended K-9 Advantax II, he said that even Frontline isn't working anymore. Prayers, 30 days of Doxi and he should be fine. Marion and the blondes.

Sterly is doing really good, as Cheryl said, these old mares with Cushings disease will never regain topline and hip line weight, but the important thing is to have a good rib cover... Sterly is lookin' good and I hope you can all see the difference from one month to the next. No actual pounds gained yet, but remember they have to gain from the inside out...her appetite is excellent and her attitude is young... she is soooo shiny and she has shed out very well on her own, love my old girl. Summer goes too fast...
Good Morning my friends, thanks for continuing to visit and vote, we have been playing catch up at work since the Avian Flu plus this is vacation time and with people off, we all have to pick up the slack. I have to say, I'm getting tired of OT. David is a big help around the barn, but I don't usually have time for a ride after work, too late or too hot, you remember how Charlie hates the heat and the flies...what a baby, plus June was soooo rainy. Sterly is doing super, in fact all is well. Trevor is wonderful, he was diagnosed with a thyroid issue, due to the radiation treatments, but with meds they feel it can be controlled, so he his working full time and doing very well, everyday is a blessing. We left a vote, enjoy a great weekend, Love Donna Lee

We received 1 ¾” of rain last night-the wind was unbelievable!!! I had to go and get feed and grocery’s yesterday and by the time we were finished it was too hot to ride. I did get fly stuff on the boys and checked the fly mask and then just watched them graze for the evening! Working the weekend but will try to do something with them after work but it will be to muddy to ride. Here is our finial tidbit on the Fabulous Rocky Mountain Horse Breed!
*TOBE was used for breeding until July of his thirty-fourth year, and he passed on his gait, disposition, and other great qualities to his offspring. It has been said that TOBE's progeny followed in his "perfectly-timed" footsteps. TOBE sired many fine horses before his death at the ripe old age of thirty-seven. One outstanding trait passed on was longevity, as many of his offspring were still breeding into their late twenties and early thirties.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Thank you for voting for Whiskey while I was unavailable the last few days. Whiskey sends you all double loves and hugs ♥ I am actually off work tomorrow and back the weekend!
* In the early 1960s, Sam Tuttle managed the trail riding concession at the Natural Bridge State Park in Powell County, Kentucky. He had as many as fifty horses there, including TOBE. This stallion was often seen tied to the hitching post alongside all the mares. He became quite well known in the ten or so years he was ridden there. Besides breeding, TOBE was used as a trail horse. He carried Sam, and sometimes the trail guides who worked for Sam, with sure-footed ease over mountainous terrain for many years. Although Sam would allow other people to ride TOBE occasionally, it was always a ride closely supervised. He loved to show off his beloved stallion, but also kept a close eye on him. Everyone who rode TOBE enjoyed his gentle temperament and comfortable gait. It amazed people to think the well-mannered horse they were riding was indeed a breeding stallion.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

* Even through the hard times of the Depression and World War II years, Sam Tuttle kept a sizable herd of thirty to forty horses on his farm. Sam is considered as the man most responsible for the survival of the Rocky Mountain Horse. TOBE was the primary Rocky Mountain stallion used in Sam's breeding program. In the 1950s, many people were selling their stallions, and the horse population in general was rapidly declining due to tractors and farm machinery available. Even so, breeders remembered TOBE, and he was always in demand for stud service. People brought their mares to TOBE from several different states, and he was as famous in Estill County as MAN O' WAR was in Lexington, Kentucky. Everyone who rode TOBE fell in love with him. TOBE's offspring were always in demand, and Sam never had any trouble selling all the Rocky Mountain Horses he could produce.

I took the fly masks off the horse’s yesterday evening. Whiskey rolled and really rubbed his head in the mud~silly boy. SO I went ahead and took off Deacon’s and Rocket’s. The flys are not as bad right now and I can say that won’t last long as we dry out from this last few days of rain. Have a wonderful day ♡
*Sam Tuttle was the most prominent breeder of Rocky Mountain Horses for the first three quarters of the twentieth century. With the advent of better roads and means of travel, the population of gaited horses in the United States began to decline. The exception was the less developed area of the Appalachian Mountains. Gaited horses were still needed for travel where there were no roads, and therefore they were preserved in that area.

*The Rocky Mountain Horse Association's (RMHA) rendition of the history of the breed states there was a gaited colt brought from the Rocky Mountain region of the United States to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in eastern Kentucky around 1890. He was referred to as "the Rocky Mountain Horse" by the local Kentucky people because of the area of the country from which he had come. He is the horse credited for the start of the Rocky Mountain Horse breed. Little is known about this foundation stallion, but oral history indicated he was chocolate-colored with flaxen mane and tail, and he possessed a superior gait. The stallion was bred to the local Appalachian saddle mares in a relatively small geographical area and the basic characteristics of a strong genetic line continued. This prized line of horses increased in numbers as years went by, and these are the horses known today as Rocky Mountain Horses.
