We received 1 ¾” of rain last night-the wind was unbelievable!!! I had to go and get feed and grocery’s yesterday and by the time we were finished it was too hot to ride. I did get fly stuff on the boys and checked the fly mask and then just watched them graze for the evening! Working the weekend but will try to do something with them after work but it will be to muddy to ride. Here is our finial tidbit on the Fabulous Rocky Mountain Horse Breed!
*TOBE was used for breeding until July of his thirty-fourth year, and he passed on his gait, disposition, and other great qualities to his offspring. It has been said that TOBE's progeny followed in his "perfectly-timed" footsteps. TOBE sired many fine horses before his death at the ripe old age of thirty-seven. One outstanding trait passed on was longevity, as many of his offspring were still breeding into their late twenties and early thirties.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Hi Rose
Dropping off a Friday morning vote, the farrier for Darby is coming Saturday. I have been holding off on riding due to his long hooves. Do you do the flying lead change? Or come down to a trot before? I'm having trouble with the flying lead change, I don't think he knows hot to do it.
He has got beautiful tight turn though, when I felt him turn a barrel once at a trot I just knew he could be a great barrel racer. That's what the lady I bought him from said too, she use to ride barrels on him. Well hope your day goes well, best wishes!

Do you still ride barrels on Rose?
Stopping by with cool morning a tap on your horseshoe. Arena is drying out nicely, hope to ride soon. I hope your week is going good, with sunshine and hopefully horsey time. Over all weather is super hot here during the days, summer has really kicked in! Darby is great, he loves his new treats! It's some alfalfa hay that I give him a handful every once in a while. He eats it up and wants more! Well have a wonderful blessed Wednesday, love to all and best wishes!!!

Cimarron's been a good boy, but we had a bit of an accident today on our ride. A friend and I had cleared out some brush to make a trail through the woods on the property, and it seemed quite nice. However, when I rode Cimarron onto the trail (I was also ponying his girlfriend Willow), we took maybe ten steps out and he suddenly sank up to his belly in the dirt/mud. The ground seemed solid when I walked on it earlier, but apparently it was just a trick. So poor Cimarron frantically lunged forward several times and finally made it onto a patch of solid ground, with Willow right behind him. He cut his back legs up, but other than that, both he and Willow are no worse for the wear. However, it scared the heck out of me and him both. An eventful day indeed.

* Even through the hard times of the Depression and World War II years, Sam Tuttle kept a sizable herd of thirty to forty horses on his farm. Sam is considered as the man most responsible for the survival of the Rocky Mountain Horse. TOBE was the primary Rocky Mountain stallion used in Sam's breeding program. In the 1950s, many people were selling their stallions, and the horse population in general was rapidly declining due to tractors and farm machinery available. Even so, breeders remembered TOBE, and he was always in demand for stud service. People brought their mares to TOBE from several different states, and he was as famous in Estill County as MAN O' WAR was in Lexington, Kentucky. Everyone who rode TOBE fell in love with him. TOBE's offspring were always in demand, and Sam never had any trouble selling all the Rocky Mountain Horses he could produce.

Great pics...you and Rose are looking good! Congrats on your first place and great scores at the show!~~~~

Having some beautiful weather for a change. I'm on vacation this week. Tomorrow I plan on mowing grass at the pasture and giving the herd a bath. Yesterday we watched and assisted a young female vet castrate a eight year old stud. The stud is kept right down the road from our pasture. A guy just purchased him and he was used for breeding before. We wanted to make sure he was cut...don't need any surprises with our two mares. lol Here's a vote for you.

This heat. Living in the desert, it's expected, but geez! Lol. Scruffy's ac is on, from early morning, until late at night. I filled 2 water bowls for him. Sadie's mister is on and staying on. She backs her butt up to it and loves it. Suppose to reach 115* today. I need to put the tarp up, on her shade, to help keep the sun off of her. She hates it, because it flaps when the wind blows, but shade is shade. Hoping you're all staying dry and cool. Love always and a vote.

*The Rocky Mountain Horse Association's (RMHA) rendition of the history of the breed states there was a gaited colt brought from the Rocky Mountain region of the United States to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in eastern Kentucky around 1890. He was referred to as "the Rocky Mountain Horse" by the local Kentucky people because of the area of the country from which he had come. He is the horse credited for the start of the Rocky Mountain Horse breed. Little is known about this foundation stallion, but oral history indicated he was chocolate-colored with flaxen mane and tail, and he possessed a superior gait. The stallion was bred to the local Appalachian saddle mares in a relatively small geographical area and the basic characteristics of a strong genetic line continued. This prized line of horses increased in numbers as years went by, and these are the horses known today as Rocky Mountain Horses.

Hi Rose, here's a vote for ya. Thank you for teaching me the difference in the types of dressage shows and the attire for them. Personally I like the look you are sporting. Very nice blue polo shirt with your breeches and boots, and of course helmet. Thanks again for the lesson. What a day. We had rain, we had sun, we had bad humidity, and then what a storm! And this one I was in the indoor with Paige, good thing we were just lungeing and not riding yet. I saw it getting really dark out, but the way the clouds were going, I thought we were safe! NOT! Of course the big doors were open on the North/East end, 2 big 10 X 10 sliders, but the rider guard was closed. They are almost 6 ft tall and 10 foot long made of 2 X 6 tongue and grove oak! On the North side the two smaller doors were open and so was the rider guard doors, as most of the breeze comes that way, so I want it in with us! Well when it hit, it hit fast and furious! If blew the rider guards doors open and busted the triple latches on them! Rain was blowing in almost 20 into the arena on those two sets of doors. Poor Paige jumped out of her skin when it hit and the doors came flying open! Heck so did I! Next time it's even getting remotely dark out there, I'm bagging it and locking up and getting to the barn! Lesson learned! Marion and the blondes.

Hi Rose, here's a vote for ya. You two look awesome! Now since I don't know all that much about dressage, and what I've seen of it, I know that they wear a coat, but in the training levels you don't have to?? Just asking, I'm trying to learn about different disciplines that my western all the time. Well we got the rain, it was pretty heavy at the am feeding time. I waited it out to go and work Indy and Paige out. They just got lunged and Paige did some showmanship work. Then it was shower time for me and off to the chiropractor for my monthly tune-up! My middle and upper back sounded like a bowl of rice krispies, snap, crackle and pop! LOL! Went to Wally World and did my major grocery shopping since it was raining cats and dogs. Got home and we must have been hit hard, even the main gate to the barn was blown open, and it usually just sits in place on the ground! Got some wash out gullies going on too! They say more heavy rain and thunder storms tonight! Oh JOY! Marion and the blondes.

Hey
I had a dressage show on Saturday. Rose and I have barely been able to ride to prepare for it, but we still did really well! We did Intro A and B as well as dressage seat equitation. We were the only ones in all of our classes, so we got three 1sts:) Our scores were in the high 50's, which for not much practice is really good. We both really enjoyed the show!

*The families of eastern Kentucky who owned these horses were not wealthy and could not afford to spend a lot of money on the upkeep of their horses. Unlike Kentucky Thoroughbreds that were typically owned by wealthy people, the gaited horses of eastern Kentucky received no special care, and as a result, most of the weak ones did not survive. These horses withstood the harsh winters of eastern Kentucky with minimal shelter, and they were often fed "fodder", a kind of rough silage. Some had to exist on whatever sustenance they could find. So, like deer, they ate the bark off trees when they were hungry. Only the horses that survived these extreme conditions lived to reproduce their kind.

Whiskey’s mane & tail change colors several times in the year by going lighter then darker. His body color changes as well. He truly loves his bath time and grooming, he trailers well in any type I load him in, and will load without heisting at all. He is also my bareback horse. Perfect back for it so if I don’t feel like putting the saddle on I can always just get myself up on him and go at any time. He is the type that will come to you every time from the field or anywhere. I guess that’s the treat hound in him lol.
* The Rocky Mountain Horse breed originated in the United States in the late 1800s, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. At the time of its beginnings, there was no understanding of the need to document anything about these horses. The people living in this region were quite unaware that one day their utility horses would become the foundation of a special breed of horse. The existence of these horses was practically a secret for many years to all but the inhabitants of this region.

Few things about Whiskey: The 1st few times I rode Whiskey my arms were wore out and tired. I was thinking “man what in the world”. He did not and could not Neck rein. He was very hard in the mouth, no flex in his neck but Karla & Tim told me he needed that kind of work. Tim felt he didn’t ride him in collection and so on. He was Tim’s first horse. We would get under the canopy of the trees on the trails and he would do great with my seat aids which I was happy about. That is how I ride him, with my seat and leg aids. I guess we all are supposed to do that RIGHT!!!! I then started planning my next few months of teaching him to neck rein. I just went back to the beginning and put him in an “O” ring snaffle and took it from there. Every day his personality would shine and he entertained Cliff & me with his antics! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Every other weekend I am not around a computer so I will phone vote as many as possible, also 1 x a week that I will phone vote :) * Rocky Mountain Horses are slow to mature and do not reach their full size and weight until about five to six years of age. Generally healthy horses, they often live long lives but do have a tendency to be extremely "easy keepers". Care must be taken to keep your Rockies from becoming too overweight, particularly in their later years.* Thank you for your support we appreciate it!
