Wow! Everyone got HOTD all at once! Thanks!
Had a great time yesterday do some more in-hand jumping with Tarnation. Today I worked some more with bathing Rocky, because he pretty dirty. Then I went to let him graze and he bucked as we were walking just out of pure energy. So I put him in the round pen and he ran and ran. I couldn't get him to slow down. After awhile I caught him and rode him a bit. Then were roping cows in the biggest arena and he was very interested so we went over and checked it out. Then turned him and Tarnation out. So it was a really good day.

THANKS FOR YOUR VOTES & SUPPORT!!! A couple months into his training, Steve told me that Cisco was just not progressing the way he should be, and wanted to to have his vet check him out. The vet didn't find anything wrong with his back or legs, but when he checked his teeth, discovered that Cisco's tongue had nearly been severed in half at some point, and also that he was 5, not 6 yrs old. Also, Steve said that he believed that Cisco had been encouraged, if not trained, to buck. Steve kept working with him, and one day (about 3 months into his training),Steve dismounted and asked if I wanted to ride him. About all that came out was a squeaky "Me!" I got on, and we walked and trotted in the round pen, and yes, at the trot he just GLIDES! Shortly after,I had Cisco registered as a grade Pinto. Month 4, and Steve told me that I was spending too much money (ever hear a trainer say that?) and maybe I would be better off with riding Meg and Cisco being a pasture pet. I told him that if Cisco came home, at some point I would try and ride him, and asked if we could do a couple of more months, and we did.

...and Cisco leaves
Appreciate the support! I always vote when I blog. On Sept 1 of 2010, Steve and his wife arrived to pick up Cisco. He had told me that it probably wouldn't be easy to load him and that it might take an hour, the longest it had ever taken him to load a horse. 2 hours later, Cisco was finally loaded and ready to go to the trainer's! Steve told me I didn't want to know what they must have done to him to get him loaded so he could be delivered. I kept going out for lessons on Steve's school horse (and to see Cisco) and was told that Cisco had a LOT of problems/issues, was a VERY dangerous horse, and it would probably take a long time. I told him I was in love with that horse, and ready to spend the time and the money. Steve said the first time he saddled Cisco and turned him out in the arena, he bucked on and off for 3 hours. We kept going, and soon I was working with Cisco on ground work as well as riding the lesson horse and working/riding Meg at home.

Meg Comes Home
THANKS FOR YOUR VOTES & SUPPORT!!! I contacted the owners of several horses, only one of whom got back to me. (I had already asked Steve if he knew of one that would suit me, but he didn't). The horse I was interested in had already sold, but they invited me to come out and look at 2 others they had for sale. They explained that the horses had been their kid's mounts, and that they weren't really riding anymore (boys, girls, cars, high school, etc.) I went out, and really liked Meg. I rode her twice that day, including down the service road of a very busy highway. She was so quiet and easy going. They delivered her a few days later. Unfortunately, he had forgotten her papers. I thought she was a QH, and was very surprised when I got her papers to find out she was a Breeding Stock Paint. LOL, I'm the lady that never even thought of having a paint or pinto now had one of each!

Cisco
THANKS FOR YOUR VOTES & SUPPORT!!! Just so everyone doesn't think I'm a total git, we raised Appys for years, and I showed and did competitive trail riding, and trained several youngsters. Finally, I found an ad at the local tack store for a "Natural Horsemanship" trainer. When I asked if he was any good, the owner told me he was very, very good, especially with problem horses. I contacted him, explained my situation, and he said he could help. I went out to his place to meet him (and see what kind of facility he had), then took some lessons from him, both in the saddle and doing groundwork. I loved the way his horses looked and behaved. At this point, I knew I would send Cisco to him, so I started to look for another horse so Nugget wouldn't be alone, and also so I would have something to ride and work with. Found several horses after going on line to go look at. I did look at several in the area, but they were either way out of my price range, or nothing clicked.

Wishing I could ride him
During this time, while Cisco would stand quietly to be saddled, it was a huge fight to bridle him. Once saddled, he would lead quietly, but when asked to lunge, he would either run madly around bucking and kicking, or just lay down and refuse to get up. He actually broke the rear rigging on my saddle one day, he bucked so hard. This went on for a year. (During his first winter with me, Nugget's half-sister, Sunny, had to be put down due to Cushing's complications). I was also surprised, when he got his winter coat, that he was jet black. Sometimes when he lay down, I would sit on him and just wish I could ride this gorgeous horse. I started looking for training tips on line and began to get interested in Natural Horsemanship. I also started teaching him a few simple tricks: to bow, pick up something off the ground, and to follow me.

I started feeding him very slowly, mostly hay to start and increased grain gradually. Within a few days, I was able to catch & halter him without too much trouble, (Yes, treats were involved) and turned him out with my 2 old mares, half sister's by the same stallion. Discovered he adored being groomed, so we did lots of that. What he DIDN'T like, and would NOT tolerate, was anyone handling his feet. Worked and worked with him until I could pick his feet up, then had a farrier out. It was a disaster. After several months, he would allow his front feet to be trimmed, but not his hind feet. We went thru several farrier's (several of whom told me he was nothing but an outlaw and I should either get rid of him or have him put down), before I found one that would work with him, but again, could usually only get the front done. He offered to take him in for training, stating "That horse just needs to be thrown, tied down and shown who's boss". Yeah, like that was gonna happen!

He finally arrived (his name was Cochise at this point, but it just didn't suit him, so I renamed him after the best horse I could think of). I shut the gate when they pulled into the yard, and went to get him out of the trailer, only to told "Oh, no, we need to pull into a pen and let him out there" Pointed out he wasn't going to go anywhere with the gate shut, and then I opened the trailer and unloaded him. I led him out to 100x200' pen with a run-in shed, and he went quietly for me. When I went to take his halter off, again I was told "Don't do that, you'll never get it back on". Just smiled and said "I never leave halters on my horses". Cisco was so excited to be in a bigger area with GRASS, he immediately started eating anything that was even remotely green. This was mid August, so there wasn't much.

The next week, something made me stop in again. The horses were getting thinner. When I went over to his pen, he came up to me and when I looked into his eyes, it was like being lost. The man at the feed store came out and asked if I was interested, and I told him not really. He said the price was only $800. I asked if he was rideable, and he said sure, when he bucks, just turn him to the right. Said I'm sorry, I need something well broke and gentle. Well, of course, I stopped in the next week, had another look, and he came over to me and put his head on my shoulder and sighed. That was pretty much it. The feedstore owner came out and asked if I thought I might buy him, the price had gone down to $400 and if he didn't sell by the weekend, he was going to a sale. I went in the pen and asked him to move, and he glided around me. Asked if he could be delivered, and was told "Yes". Wrote out a check, and they were supposed to deliver him on Monday. Got a call Monday, was told it would be a couple of more days. And, yes, buying him was stupid and foolish, but I am so glad I did.

I hadn't ridden anything but stable hacks since my wonderful mare, Old Nugget, had died over 25 yrs ago. I saw several horses up in very small, makeshift pens at a local feed store while driving by. They were standing in the hot July sun, no shade, with their heads down, except for one, whose head was up, watching the traffic go by. I felt so sorry for all of them. After several weeks of this, the one horse (a bay paint, so I thought) was still always alert, always staring at the road. Something made me stop in to look at him . His coat was staring, his ribs were showing, his hooves looked awful, and his mane and tail were matted. Told him, sorry fella, but you're just in too bad a shape. I could actually feel him staring at my back as I walked to the car and left.

This is our story, the story of the The Old Lady and The "Outlaw":

I wish it wasn't so hot... I wish I had clean water... I wish someone would feed me, oh, I wish someone would get me out of here... I don't understand, what did I do? I remember good times, I remember being fed, and groomed and a pasture to run in and sweet grass to eat instead of being caged up. I remember running flat out with the wind in my mane, I REMEMBER BEING LOVED! I am so miserable, if only there were something to do besides watch the road. The other horses just stand there. Oh, Epona, help me!
I had just turned 60 (4 1/2 yrs ago) when I first saw Cisco...

Vote 74 FREEDOM from Darling
A GET RELIEF FROM THE HEAT VOTE from DARLING ! He is suffering the rains and humidity at full strength now in southern Thailand! Still not working, just being hand walked on the beach and kept in his climate cool stall most of the day and out in his paddock at night under shelter! They feed this really unusual green bamboo looking feed to the horses over there. I forget the name but will ask the vet or go on line with it at the club. It is supposed to be non blockage type green feed and better than hay that can become moldy or with dead animals in it due to inspection through a “s ieve” sort of like a colander or filter for spaghetti noodles & such! They use it the smaller version for the Thai rice! At this point in the story, we were at the airport getting ready to leave for Paris CDG airport (no strikes then, LOL!) and then the high speed TGV train for home. I could not stop from crying, not just from leaving Darling but the wonderful 24 days I spent all over Asia and the days with him were the most perfect I have had in a very long time! See ya tomorrow and hope everyone is cooling down, still about 98°F here with warnings from the Minister of Health in France about older aged people without any cooling or hospitals that need to modernize their air conditioning!

A HOT FRIDAY ! Supposed to get thunder storms to cool off but not happening ! A “canicule” (heat wave) until next Friday! I think we are all having hot weather but the horses here seem fine with it as long as they have shade & fly masks on! I just checked on Anka, then Alliance and they were fine. This was 1 PM Paris/Madrid time. Time to let the dog go swimming!
NOW, ABOUT MY MEMORIES OF DARLING AND OUR TIMES TOGETHER? WELL? THIS MAINPIC OF THE DAY IS HOW I FEEL ABOUT HIM A LOT. VERY TRANQUIL, VERY CONTENT AND SO MUCH TRUST WHICH IS MY FAVORITE WITH ALL HORSES BECAUSE OF THEIR POWER TO BE TREMENDOUSLY UNPREDICTABLE AND SOOOOO STRONG. MY LAB RETRIEVER PULLS STRONGER (HE WEIGHS 37 KILOS OR ABOUT 79 POUNDS) AND I CAN WALK THE HORSES WITHOUT ANY PULLING ON THEIR PART? UNLIKE MY LABBY BOY! AND I WALK THEM TWO AT A TIME, the horses, that is! WELL? I LEAVE YOU WITH THIS FRIDAY VOTE AND THOUGHT? THINK TRANQUIL, ZEN, COOL AND ULTRA CALM! ESPECIALLY WITH THE HEAT. OUR LOVE OF HORSES COME FROM SO MANY THINGS US HUMANS WISH WE HAD IN OUR OWN LIVES. DARLING IS MY EXAMPLE OF A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME WHO TAUGHT ME AGAIN THESE SENTIMENTS.

My catch up blog!

How are you doing? I am going to write a pure copy and paste message because I am so far behind with my HC blogs that you wouldn't believe it.

A lot has happened since I last blogged properly on here and I can't promise to be on as much as I would like.

Eddie has settled in really well. He and Pippin are great friends but boys will be boys and because of their giant size difference, 2000lbs vs 200lbs, they cannot be alone in the same field. So, Eddie has a pen within Pippin's huge day pen and they get at each other through the fence.

Eddie is the tall silent type and his previous owner has never heard him make a noise. Well, now that he's here he whinnies if we take Pippin for a walk and leave him behind. He nickers low and sweetly when Pippin is put in the pen near him. They are cute together.

We've had a couple of tough moments, health-wise, with both of them. Eddie had several episodes of choke earlier this year leading up to a major case which almost killed him. The vet actually thought he wouldn't make it and we were discussing the dreaded topic of carcass disposal…

Well, the long and short of it is, he's completely and absolutely healthy and looks the best he's ever looked. He's fit and shiny and has a spring in his step. That is, when he's not sleep walking which he'll do on a hot day like today.

3 weeks ago Pippin had surgery for the removal of 2 large enteroliths from his colon. They weigh about 3lbs and I've kept them as souvenirs. He's on the road to recovery and is also doing super well.

For a couple of months he was rapidly going downhill and we couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Using a portable x-ray the vet discovered the stones. They are so huge that she actually screamed when spotted them on the radiograph. It's a wonder that he was still eating and pooping fine. Not sure how that was even possible.

Anyway, that's what's up here. I will try (really I will!) to write more often.

I hope you had a great weekend!

Come visit me, Prince, Pippin (Remembering Melian) & Eddie.

Thank you so much for stopping by with congratulations for Eddie on his horse of the day win today. It sure was a nice surprise and a nice welcome back to HC. I haven't written properly on here for a long time. I'll post my catch up blog too in case you're interested.

It was pretty hot here today, about 100 degrees. So, instead of driving Eddie, I and a couple of crazy friends, went for a 3 mile walk this afternoon with Eddie, Pippin, and 5 dogs. We carried water and gave the dogs drinks every 15 minutes. Most of them loved it but they sure were dog tired when we got back.

It was great exercise for Pippin who can't trot yet for another 3 weeks of recovery. He's getting bored with the lack of adventure! Every time I go in his pen he squeals like a pig the entire time I'm in there! Silly boy has always been quite talkative.

Thanks again for the congratulations!

Leaving a vote for you.

Come visit me, Prince, Pippin (Remembering Melian) & Eddie.

Already the 12th of July ! And after a month of rain we are now in the sun & heat dustbowl… that is the way it is here in our area. One extreme to the other, but at least we do not need an ark,LOL!A quick story because this will have to continue a while! This was my last day with Darling, had to fly back into Bangkok for a few days before returning to France. The night before I had a 2 and a half hour ride into the sunset on the beach with Darling. It was probably the most spiritual, life saving, confidence building few hours in my adult life. I dream of it all the time! We jogged, cantered and just sat still in the sea watching the sunset. Really felt at one with this wonderful horse. That night I got my purple polo shirt PHUKET INTERNATIONAL RIDING CLUB! I treasure it so as much as I do this TB gelding. Continues tomorrow, happy Friday vote!

Raining again. Seems like if it does not rain, we begin to wonder where the rains are. The rains have become kind of like a family member that is always there, just hanging around every day, with nothing to do but hang around.

Fancy seems happy eating her grain from the water tub instead of the feeder hanging on the fence.

Gotta tell you what happened yesterday! Several weeks ago, before the Helmet Awareness Day, I received an email that I shared with my horsey friends. It was an invitation to enter a contest giving away riding helmets and ipads. I entered the contest, forgot all about it. Yesterday the mail carrier went by and I did not even check the mail box because I was too busy. Late in the evening, my husband came in from work with the mail. I saw a large white envelope and asked what he had. He told me he did not know because it was for me. Only my first name and address was on the envelope and I did not recognize the sender. I went out on the car porch and opened it. Peeked inside and saw the Helmet awareness title. I thought they were just sending some info on helmet awareness. It was a letter of congratulations for winning and a certificate to mail into the Troxel company to select my Troxel Intrepid, helmet size and color along with some other information. Last night I visited the Helmets4Riders website for more info. They had over 6500 contest entries and a list of winners posted. Then I visited the Troxel website to view helmet colors and I was supposed to find something on Facebook. I found their Facebook page, but I did not find whatever I was looking for regarding the contest.
I never had a helmet before. When I receive it, I can practice safe horsemanship instead of just preach to Cowboy about how safe it is to wear his helmet. And I noticed on photos from our horse club fun day June29, Cowboy only rode when he was demonstrating the games to the other children, but I was so nervous about hosting the event that he slipped by me without his helmet on “(

Hi, here is a Fancy Sunday vote for you ♥

Hope your 4th of July weekend has been FUN!
The first part of our 4th was spent with my Mom. The 4th of July afternoon, we spent with horsey friends. They live across from the park where they do fireworks! Boy, did they have some awesome fireworks! And their horses did not even jump when they saw or heard the fireworks.

Some days it is hard to vote on HC. Guess they are still working on things.

We have not ridden. It storms every evening. I wanted to ride today after church, but it began to rain and now it is thundering.

I did go to the horse and tack auction Saturday. Had fun there before your it stormed.

Fancy seems to enjoy being alone. Trigger enjoys it too. They appear to be at peace now that they are separated.
