P.S. I have a haflinger mare that acted the same way at feeding time...very pushy. I decided to make it my goal to stop this wild behavior side of her so she didn't hurt anyone. I would place a small amount of hay between her and myself and made her back up using a crop and only letting her see it if she stepped forward towards the hay. I would simply tap my boot ( to get her attention focused on me)with the crop when she did step forward and make her back up again. We did this several times a week for about a week and when I would finally let off the pressure and our short session was over for the day I rewarded her with a cookie for her good behavior. It worked really well with my mare because now she will even walk away from her hay and come to see me when I walk out in the pasture. I never thought my haflinger would leave a hay pile just to be near me but she has proven me wrong and when she does leave her hay pile there are no treats involved...it is her choice now and of her own free will. I'm a believer in correcting behavioral issues through a firm voice, kind hands, repitition and a whole lot of patience. Life is good! :)Come visit me, Mazy & Ruger.

The day we brought Brynn home We brought Brynn home on Sunday, January 13, 2013. I remember how excited I was that it was finally happening that after 36 years I was finally getting a horse of my own. We got Brynn all loaded in the trailer and we were ready to head home to Victoria Acres where we board Brynn and have so many wonderful friends (both equine and human...lol). We took Brynn out of the trailer and started to walk him into the barn that we had his stall all ready for him. It was a strange feeling knowing he was my horse, I wasn't sure what to do with him. My daughter and I brushed him, walked him around a bit and introduced him to the other horses and then it was time to bring everyone in for the night, so we got him all settled in his stall and went out to get the others. He immediately made friends with his next door stall mate, Barnaby. It defineatly was love at first site!!!!Come visit me, Brynn.
