How We Met

He is my daughter's horse and I took care of him when she was in college. Originally we got him for her to jump and show. He came to the barn where she took lessons and he was too skinny, and needed a lot of work. A perfect project for her!

Nov 2011 - Comet moves to a new stable and loves his new home.
2/13/13: Comet's nice stable is closing, so he'll be on the road again once we find a new place!
FEB Update: Comet's found a new stable, will be moving by end of the month. :)
2/24/13: Comet arrived at his new stable Sunday evening. He settled into his stall and seems contented. A good sign.
July 31, 2014 - Comet goes to new owner and job at the stable where he was being boarded. We will miss and still love you, Comet Chaser. The most recent 2 photos are Comet at his new home.

It was suppose to be 120*, Monday, but only made it up to 116*. Cooling down to 112* and then, 110* later in the week. Suppose to be around 110* for the next 2 weeks. The air is hot. Thankful it's not humid, yet. Love to each of you and a vote.

So sorry I haven't been on. HC was down, then I had long shifts at work, making it impossible to vote. The wind was so hot when I got off work, Sunday night, my eyes burned. I came home, watered some of my trees, filled Sadie's water and splashed her butt with the hose. I got a dirty look, lol. What a brat. She's doing well, drinking lots of water. Thankful the heat doesn't seem to bother her. I started her on psyllium pellets, again. I mixed them with carrots and apples. She'd eat them without a treat, but I love to spoil her. And yes, I pay for it. Lol. Love and a vote.

Not looking forward to the predicted 120* on Sunday, and it's not even summertime, yet. It's usually hotter here than in Phoenix. Keeping Sadie's water filled, as usual. She knows how to wet herself down when the temperature's from Hell hit. We have beautiful winters that make up for it. Lots of love and a vote.

Many, many "moons" ago, when my hubby drank beer, he went out and came home with 7 goats...a story he never lives down. hee hee. Well, he gets gout from beer, so does not drink anymore, but he sure remembers those goats. They were not nice goats at all, no matter how high we made the pen, they would get out. Finally, after 3 years, sold all the babies to one guy, traded 4 goats for a 2 calves, Nixon and Nero, and traded all the rest for hay, so we did OK, but I did say, I would never want another goat, but Blizzard and Zero were nice, just did not fit in with pones that were afraid of them. It was hard at feeding time, because they wanted everything, they would run from chicken pens, to the pigs, to each horse pan, or where ever I heard me with the bucket. It was fun, another lesson learned, the hard way...again.

Sold my 2 goats yesterday, I think it was the right choice. It was getting harder to keep them away from chicken corn, and they would follow me around while doing chores....I think it was just to watch me, to know where I put all that corn. I found them in the chicken coop eating their feed, and even when I hid the guinea's feed pan in the dog house in their pen, they found it. But now they will be a little girl's birthday present. Hubby is still grinning ear to ear....:). If only the Pickles and Paisley were not so afraid of them. I was more afraid that the two goats would get hurt from one of the minis. No baby yet.....I think Mistit changed her mind.

Scruffy's doing great. He was so good at the Vet's. Had to say hello to everyone there. The vet's assistant was surprised when I told her his 10th birthday is in August. She thought he was 2. She said he's in great shape. He's an over aged puppy. Lol. Sadie 's pretty, nosy butt's doing well, too.... Busy work weekend, again. Longer hours next weekend. Will vote when I can. Love you all and a vote.

Yes, we had light frost yesterday morning. We have had frost in nearly ever month, once on the 4th of July, we had to leave the park early to go cover the garden, and sit with blankets on us, as we watched the local parade. No, baby yet. A week ago, the vet said it would be at least a week to 10 days yet. The former owner, was so positive on her breeding dates. It was in July, that Mistit hurt her stifle joint. She does not seem uncomfortable, but sometimes I see her tail switching back and forth, or looking at her belly. Yesterday, she was rolling a few times. Pickles, now is a different story. He did not seem sore after the second or third day. But, he is back to being "catch me if you can" attitude. Today, I put him in the pen, and lead him back and forth to the pasture, of course he wants to run, but I zig zag back and forth, to make him slow down, but then here comes the goats, under the fence, running straight to us, and Pickles took off. Well, another bad habit I just taught him.

The mini flood in the living room was caused by the hubby, who was playing weatherman, again. Sure hope he does not take it up as a living. Same guy, who said was not going to freeze last night. Good thing I covered tomato plants, there was frost this morning, frost but no baby.
Ponies staying in at night so they can lay where it is dry and warm, sure is making a messy in the back of shed. This morning, "someone" decided to empty the barrel of empty feed bags, pull down another bale of hay, tip over water buckets, and I am sure they tried to let the rooster out of the rabbit hutch.

Both colts are feeling better, I gave each one a bute tablet in the morning. Have to dissolve it in warm water, and mix a bit of sugar with it. When I talk to them, both have that innocent look in their eyes, which are very kind expressive eyes. Like who me!! I did not do that. I have to find the time to make up a page just for them, instead of having so many. Been raining like cats and dogs here, high winds yesterday, now it cool today. Hopefully, I can get some inside work done. Garden needs replanting and weeding, but with all this rain, can not even tiller. Did hand pulling weeds around the tiny carrots and beets, beans and peas are one here, and 6 ft away the second one. Once we can till, I will transplant whats there. Today is grandson, Tristan's, first day at collage for linesman school, of course flat tire, so GrPa is going down to help him out, about hour and a half one way. Well, have to go, I hear the goats calling me.

Lol, cooling down to 111*, today. Bought a small tarp to put on one of the walls of Sadie's shade to block some of the hot sun, until I can get some more material to finish it. Trying to figure out how to put it up and hoping she won't rip it down. Lots of love and a vote.

I keep Mistit in the pen inside each night, and because Clippers, and Pickles got gelded, and of course rain ever since Thursday, they got to stay in the back of the barn where the hay is.....and this morning it is a MESS....big time. They somehow got one of the totes open, threw everything around, mostly unfinished craft items, which I work on in "spare time". Plus went into the barrel whee I keep empty feed bags, and it looks like they had fun with that, by the looks of 50 white bags all over. Pulled down all the halters and lead ropes, and told me what they think of them, by pooping on them. When I ask who made the mess....both boys just looked at Paisley, and told me they were too sore to even think of helping her. Neither were limping, but did not want me to look by moving their tails to the side. Just feed me was their attitude. Kids!!!

Colts are doing good, of course it has been raining ever since. Not the cold rain, but yesterday late afternoon we went to a friend/family wake, and come home to Pickles laying out in the rain, I brought him into the lean=to until I could move the goats out, bring Paisley and Mistit in, and of course no really barn, just one large stall, goat(s), yep with a "s"....long story, how I thought one goat is lonely so I got him a friend, now I have 2...some people never learn. But Pickles was shivering and wanted to just lay down. I dissolved some SMZ's and a Bute tablet in warm water, and then mixed it into his grain. Did it again this morning, some for Clippers, both a walking good and a little swollen, but wanted to get out this morning.

No baby yet, talk to the woman, and she said Mistit could go 10 days over her last breeding date. But the goat, Zero, cry so much when I have to stake him out, so I got him a little friend, now I have two of them crying. Hatched out 8 of the 12 pheasant eggs, they are so tiny. About 15 guinea keets, and I sold 10 already, but that 40 dollars will go right back into feed. Gelding is tomorrow, so have to clean up a bit "again". Just hay and stuff the goats seem to like to knock down.

Hope your weekend was great for everyone. Going to rain again today, so have to hurry and pick up my Mom grass clippings for bedding. Once it gets wet, it will mold. I guess, I recyle everything. Guineas and pheasant hatched out...not too good of a rate on the guineas. 15 out 36 eggs, but these were the first of the season, most were being lain when there was snow on the ground.

Baby watch is still on. I though with all the storm weather we are having it would be born, probably today, when we run to a small family doings, when I am not here to watch or help. Skys are very dark with rolling clouds last night, lots of thunder and lighting, but not much rain.

My old farrier always told me to geld the horses in the fly season, because the flys keep them moving. Just not when it was either cold or rainy....that is what kept going threw my mind, when I called to cancel. I also keep SMZ on hand, which is an old med, long before penicillin came out. Once when I got a filly off the meat truck, I had her quarantine, but somehow, my filly got near her, and of course touched noses, so I had two now to keep away from everyone else. I used SMZ's and penicillin together at the first sign of strangles, neither of them came down with it. Rainy and hot here too, but not unbearable. Hope you have a nice long weekend.
