How We Met

Rode her once for a lesson, and the barn owner told me that she was up for sale and they only wanted to get what was owed for back board. The moment we met, she put her muzzle up to my face and shoulder. I fell for her then..

Beautiful horse! Vote 18!

Rose and I had a really good ride yesterday. When we got back to the barn I didn't put on her halter. I completely untacked her and she didn't even move!

Come visit me, Zilker, Rose & Spangle.

So sorry :(
I am so very sorry to hear about your accident and having to sell your horse.... sending you a big hug!!!! I just came across your question about Tonka's saddle and I'm also sorry it took me so long to get back to you. It's a YESRD Treeless English saddle that I got on, very inexpensive... the pad I got at a local 2nd hand tack store here in town. I hope your injuries heal quickly and if you do sell your horse that she goes to a wonderful home!! Left a vote ya

Bad news...selling my mare due to auto accident
Hi friends at Horsechannel! Sad news...need to sell my mare because someone ran a stop sign and hit my suv so hard it hit a curb and flipped, causing much pain to my left side and totaling my blazer. Thank goodness I hit the brake and it locked in my seatbelt. Plus, it is an older suv and built like a tank. Survived the April 2011 tornadoes, but, not last week.
I'm not going to be able to ride for a long time, if ever. Have a cut to my left pinkie with numbness now, strained neck muscles, and a bunch of bruises, inflammation to my previous injuries. Found a healing or healed L1 fracture, don't know when that happened!?? But, can't take a chance on being re-injured and completely paralyzed.

Genny is so sweet and fun to be around. She watches everything, will untie herself and walk around the arena inspecting everything, lol. She lets me play with her mouth, ears, tail, feet and will rest her head against my chest while I talk and scratch under her head. Will follow me when asked, even out of the arena without me touching her. Just a gentle, devoted mare that will make a great all-around horse. She will even lower her head when you tell her to at a trot! Too funny. Gonna miss her when I sell her.

The drive to the barn is about 25 miles one way and bothers my arms and hands, too. Ugh, this is going to be rough.

Thanks for the votes! Update
Well, today was a very hot, and humid day...almost too hot this morning to ride, even in an indoor arena!
Another training session, working on lowering of her head. Genny is getting there, just needs some patience. She's so good. After she cooled down and had a quick shower, I had the water hose line in my hand near her head. She gently put the hose in her mouth near the nozzle!! She held onto it for a minute! Too funny! Also, she loves orange Powerade...have to hide it from her to save some for myself - LOL! I can't believe we have been together for only three months...we've made great strides with a wonderful trainer named Sara. Ground manners is a must for respect, trust and lots of love :)

Hey!!! gorgeous horse!!!!!
I have almost the same issues. I became a first time horse owner only 12 weeks ago and i am still a teenager though. I love horses and have been riding for 3 years at my neighborhood barn. So since I was 11. That's where tj came along:) I got danny boy from my uncle and had to find a place to board, somewhere I could work off board and not need to pay a cent. I do end up only paying 50 for winter but I pay nothing for spring, summer or fall. My danny boy was at first a western horse but i have only ridden western once and i have been trained a dressage rider. My horse had only been ridden once a year so it was hard getting him back into the work/riding stage. I later found out he liked to jump so now we are jumping and we might enter a jumping show soon:)

Your horse is really gorgeous!!! I left you a vote:)

Come visit me, Danny Boy.

New to owning a horse
I am new to being a horse owner, but, have always loved horses and have ridden since I was a little girl. However, over the years, I can't ride like I did when I was a teenager, lol. I moved my horse to a new barn because of the stress I felt from the owners of the barn where she was stabled. Genny did wonderful as she settled into her new home. Started having some problems with nervousness, not respecting my space, etc, so the new barn owner provided me with a wonderful young lady who has been working on ground manners, riding her and teaching the two of us how to maintain space, slowing down her lope, trot. I am amazed at how fast my horse has calmed down, and has a collected walk, trot and lope. So pleased that I moved Genny and got some help with her. Plus, one of my friends has a horse at the new place and hopefully we can go for a trail ride in the near future. Learning alot about caring for horses, using different bits, etc.
