How We Met

Cimarron was a gift horse. He was an accidental baby, and he spent the first seven years of his life wild and untrained. My aunt obtained possession of him, and she spent a lot of time working with Cimarron. He acted feral - he bucked and tried to cow-kick his riders. Rather than enter a horse trailer, he repeatedly reared up and flipped over backward, beating himself up in the process. Cimarron eventually quieted down and served as a packhorse for many years. I met him in November 2007, and in July 2008, Cimarron injured himself in the pasture. He subsequently retired from packing and has been my treasured friend ever since..

We received 1 ¾” of rain last night-the wind was unbelievable!!! I had to go and get feed and grocery’s yesterday and by the time we were finished it was too hot to ride. I did get fly stuff on the boys and checked the fly mask and then just watched them graze for the evening! Working the weekend but will try to do something with them after work but it will be to muddy to ride. Here is our finial tidbit on the Fabulous Rocky Mountain Horse Breed!
*TOBE was used for breeding until July of his thirty-fourth year, and he passed on his gait, disposition, and other great qualities to his offspring. It has been said that TOBE's progeny followed in his "perfectly-timed" footsteps. TOBE sired many fine horses before his death at the ripe old age of thirty-seven. One outstanding trait passed on was longevity, as many of his offspring were still breeding into their late twenties and early thirties.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Thank you for voting for Whiskey while I was unavailable the last few days. Whiskey sends you all double loves and hugs ♥ I am actually off work tomorrow and back the weekend!
* In the early 1960s, Sam Tuttle managed the trail riding concession at the Natural Bridge State Park in Powell County, Kentucky. He had as many as fifty horses there, including TOBE. This stallion was often seen tied to the hitching post alongside all the mares. He became quite well known in the ten or so years he was ridden there. Besides breeding, TOBE was used as a trail horse. He carried Sam, and sometimes the trail guides who worked for Sam, with sure-footed ease over mountainous terrain for many years. Although Sam would allow other people to ride TOBE occasionally, it was always a ride closely supervised. He loved to show off his beloved stallion, but also kept a close eye on him. Everyone who rode TOBE enjoyed his gentle temperament and comfortable gait. It amazed people to think the well-mannered horse they were riding was indeed a breeding stallion.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

OMG, how awful. Glad the Big C and Willow are mostly OK, I've heard (from reliable sources) about horses actually dying from internal injuries after being mired like that!

poor Cimarron. ive sunk a few horses belly deep over the years. creek beds that feed in to the lake are the worst...they look solid and shallow, but often have layers and layers of silt that are undermined by water. glad yall got out of it okay. one more story of high adventure on horseback, lol.

* Even through the hard times of the Depression and World War II years, Sam Tuttle kept a sizable herd of thirty to forty horses on his farm. Sam is considered as the man most responsible for the survival of the Rocky Mountain Horse. TOBE was the primary Rocky Mountain stallion used in Sam's breeding program. In the 1950s, many people were selling their stallions, and the horse population in general was rapidly declining due to tractors and farm machinery available. Even so, breeders remembered TOBE, and he was always in demand for stud service. People brought their mares to TOBE from several different states, and he was as famous in Estill County as MAN O' WAR was in Lexington, Kentucky. Everyone who rode TOBE fell in love with him. TOBE's offspring were always in demand, and Sam never had any trouble selling all the Rocky Mountain Horses he could produce.

Whiskey’s mane & tail change colors several times in the year by going lighter then darker. His body color changes as well. He truly loves his bath time and grooming, he trailers well in any type I load him in, and will load without heisting at all. He is also my bareback horse. Perfect back for it so if I don’t feel like putting the saddle on I can always just get myself up on him and go at any time. He is the type that will come to you every time from the field or anywhere. I guess that’s the treat hound in him lol.
* The Rocky Mountain Horse breed originated in the United States in the late 1800s, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. At the time of its beginnings, there was no understanding of the need to document anything about these horses. The people living in this region were quite unaware that one day their utility horses would become the foundation of a special breed of horse. The existence of these horses was practically a secret for many years to all but the inhabitants of this region.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

New pic is GREAT!
Went out about dusk to set up feed for AM, saw something wiggling between my feet, jumped and slammed the door shut. A 1 1/2' copperhead got caught in the door, went around to the front of the porch, grabbed the baseball bat, went back in (front door), and beat it to death. Close call. One of my friends had 2 cats get rattlesnake bit yesterday, thankfully they survived (after a night at the vet's) and he killed the snake.

Few things about Whiskey: The 1st few times I rode Whiskey my arms were wore out and tired. I was thinking “man what in the world”. He did not and could not Neck rein. He was very hard in the mouth, no flex in his neck but Karla & Tim told me he needed that kind of work. Tim felt he didn’t ride him in collection and so on. He was Tim’s first horse. We would get under the canopy of the trees on the trails and he would do great with my seat aids which I was happy about. That is how I ride him, with my seat and leg aids. I guess we all are supposed to do that RIGHT!!!! I then started planning my next few months of teaching him to neck rein. I just went back to the beginning and put him in an “O” ring snaffle and took it from there. Every day his personality would shine and he entertained Cliff & me with his antics! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Miracle's update:
Healing Hearts Animal Rescue and Refuge.
"Friends, it is with heavy heart that we bring you the news of Love's passing. Once we got her safe to our refuge, she started to seize. She had been carefully and thoughtfully examined by 2 vets, as well as monitored 24 hours a day by our staff. We agreed that she needed to be set free, as not to harm herself and to be allowed to pass with dignity. She was surrounded by people who cared, loved and honored her life. She went over the bridge under the warm sun, in the arms of those who saved her from abuse. She was not alone." Love and a vote.

Glad Big C is feeling better. I think that is instinctive for another horse to try to get one up that's down and hurting. Nugget had a mild bout of colic a couple of weeks ago, there's always something to worry about.

Weather folks say to look at the bright side-we are no longer in a drought! Yesterday it was partly cloudy and some sun and the wind was blowing pretty good so I thought it was going to dry us some~NOT~ the herd enjoyed turn out and I had to fly spray them a little and they were happy. hope all is well your way ☆ oh boy the hay will be cheap this year~grass and fields of coastal are soooo beautiful with all the rain. Wheat crops are looking horrible for the harvest coming up though-that is sad. Slight rain today but the next 6-8 days we are expecting more. I am hoping I can get the herd out and brush some and clean hoofs out tomorrow before any more rain comes. I may just do hoofs cuz they are going to roll and just get muddy again ☆

HI, left a vote. I left silent votes yesterday. So to date, there are now 9 cases of the EHV-1. Five are fevers only, 4 are neurological. Abby the horse at my barn that came down with it last Friday, is back. She is by herself right now, but she is doing much better. I hope she will have a full recovery. Will not know that for at least another two months. The first horse that came down with it, is still at OSU and not doing well. No other horses at my barn have gotten sick. Zip is doing good, had another ride today, and he did great. Amber is still out with the herd, and that is probably a good thing. The OHSET state meet that was suppose to be next week has been canceled. A lot of local shows, and arenas have closed until the end of the month.

Love, a vote and an update on the Mare. From Tandra Hefley:
Update #2
Fox 10 News was just here. Jill Monier interviewed me and Miracle. I couldn't go into detail earlier about what was going on with her, but I want to let everyone know all their efforts to save her paid off! The Livestock Inspector Supervisor was the one that came to get her. She IS NOT being returned to the hell she was forced to endure. She is going to the state vets office to be evaluated and treated. There is a criminal investigation that has been started. So Miracle is safe! I appreciate everyone that came to see her and offered words of encouragement! I wanted to let everyone know earlier that what was being said was garbage! But I was asked not to until she was picked up so that no one could try to interfere. The people or person that tried to claim she was stolen and not left in the road will pay for what they did to her. All I have to say to the people that tried to defend them is check your facts next time! I know everyone that had something to say thought they were doing the right thing. But when an animals life is at stake it doesn't matter who you like or who you don't. All that matters is that animals life!

Yep, eyes are very expressive. What I hate most to see (it happened Friday and again Sat AM) is when he gets the "dead look" (Steve's name) when he just tunes everything out. All I can think about then is what he must have gone thru, and it's hard to push him past that.
